Abstract Biodegradation of chitin by microorganisms can produce derivative products that have economic value. This research aims to apply SEM-EDX analysis in observing the biodegradation process of seafood industrial waste by actinomycetes. Shrimp shells, cuttlefish bones and fish scales were obtained from the free market. In the early stages, the SEM-EDX spectrum analysis of the substrate showed almost the same carbon, oxygen, and mineral compositions. While the surface of each substrate is quite varied. On the second day of the fermentation, SEM image analysis showed that the growth rate of actinomycetes on each substrate was significantly different. The difference in growth was supported by SEM imaging data which showed damage to the surface of each substrate. Further analysis of the degradation products by HPLC on the second and third days showed the formation of glucosamine. It suspected that actinomycetes can break down shrimp shell waste into glucosamine. This information is very important as the basis for further research related to the optimization of the glucosamine and chitooligosaccharide (COS) production process using the solid fermentation method.

ENGLISHShrimp processing industry produces untapped waste, as result those have less economic value. Shrimp shell waste can be processed into chitinas a mixture of organic fertilizer. The research objectives were (1) to identify the type products produced from shrimp shell waste processing; (2) to estimate the products produced from shrimp shell waste processing; (3) to estimate the income and business feasibility of shrimp shell waste processing. This research uses descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The study is located in Pati district. This research was a development of the Implementation Procedure Manual Model prototype of shrimp shell waste utilization. Data analysis consists of (1) identify the type products produced from shrimp shell waste processing by descriptive; (2) estimation calculation of products produced from shrimp shell waste processing; and (3) Return-Cost analysis (R/C ratio). The results showed that (1) the products produced from shrimp shell waste processing are chitin, liquid fertilizer with pH 6,8 and organic fertilizer with chitin; (2) the estimated product yield was 73,926,258,753.48 kg/year; and (3) the estimated income of 592,052,603,686,220 IDR/year, profit 433,474,175,039,857 IDR/year, and R/C ratio 3.734. INDONESIAIndustri pengolahan udang menghasilkan limbah yang belum termanfaatkan. Limbah kulit udang yang belum dimanfaatkan menyebabkan limbah kulit udang kurang memiliki nilai ekonomis. Limbah kulit udang dapat diolah menjadi kitin sebagai campuran pupuk organik. Tujuan penelitian adalah (1) untuk mengidentifikasi jenis produk hasil olahan limbah udang di Pati; (2) untuk melakukan estimasi produk yang dihasilkan dari pengolahan limbah kulit udang; dan (3) untuk melakukan estimasi pendapatan serta kelayakan usaha dari pengolahan limbah kulit udang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan lokasi penelitian di Kabupaten Pati. Penelitian ini merupakan pengembangan dari Manual Prosedur Implementasi Model prototipe pemanfaatan limbah kulit udang. Analisis data (1) estimasi produk yang dihasilkan dari pengolahan limbah kulit udang secara deskriptif; (2) perhitungan estimasi produk yang dihasilkan dari pengolahan kulit udang; dan (3) analisis Return-Cost (Rasio R/C). Hasil penelitian yaitu (1) hasil dari pengolahan limbah kulit udang adalah kitin, pupuk cair dengan pH terukur 6,8  dan pupuk organik plus kitin; (2) estimasi produk yang dihasilkan sebesar 73.926.258.753,48 kg/tahun; dan (3) estimasi pendapatan sebesar Rp592.052.603.686.220,00/tahun, profit Rp433.474.175.039.857,00/tahun, dan rasio R/C 3,734.

SummaryPrevious studies have shown that the fibrinolytic activity of peritoneum is depressed in local inflammation. We measured fibrinolytic parameters in peritoneal fluid and in plasma of 10 women with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Nine women, in whom laparoscopy for sterilisation was performed, served as a control group.In the peritoneal fluid of women with PID, PAI-Ag, t-PA-Ag and u-PA-Ag were many times higher than in the control group. In contrast to the antigens which may be present in inert complexes, the potentially active compounds, measured as t-PA activity and plasmin-activable scu-PA, were not significantly different in the two groups, and in none of the samples was the active enzyme tcu-PA detectable. Nevertheless, the mean peritoneal fluid TDP and FbDP concentrations were about twenty times higher in the PID group than in the control group. In plasma of PID patients, none of the parameters except u-PA-Ag differed from those in the control group. The difference between control and patient plasma u-PA-Ag was statistically significant, but too small to attach any relevance to the observation.Our data suggest that, in contrast to the classical concept of decreased fibrinolytic activity as a cause of adhesion formation, intraperitoneal fibrinolysis is enhanced in peritoneal inflammation through stimulation of the local production of t-PA and u-PA. Despite concomitant production of PAI, fibrinolysis occurs at a high rate, resulting in high levels of fibrin degradation products. Since this activated fibrinolysis does not meet the demand, therapeutic enhancement should be considered to prevent adhesions.

The conservation and proper management of natural resources constitute one of the main objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development designed by the Member States of the United Nations. In this work, a hybrid strategy based on process integration is proposed to minimize freshwater consumption while reusing wastewater. As a novelty, the strategy included a heuristic approach for identifying the minimum consumption of freshwater with a preliminary design of the water network, considering the concept of reuse and multiple pollutants. Then, mathematical programming techniques were applied to evaluate the possibilities of regeneration of the source streams through the inclusion of intercept units and establish the optimal design of the network. This strategy was used in the shrimp shell waste process to obtain chitosan, where a minimum freshwater consumption of 277 t/h was identified, with a reuse strategy and an optimal value of US $5.5 million for the design of the water network.

The increased removal of forest-derived biomass with whole-tree harvesting (WTH) has raised concerns about the long-term productivity and sustainability of forest ecosystems. If true, this effect needs to be factored in the assessment of long-term feasibility to implement such a drastic forest management measure. Therefore, the economic performance of five experimental plantations in three different forest types, where in 1971 simulated WTH event occurred, was compared with pure, planted and conventionally managed (CH) Norway spruce stands of similar age and growing conditions. Potential incomes of CH and WTH stands were based on timber prices for period 2014–2020. However, regarding the economics of root and stump biomass utilization, they were not included in the estimates. In any given price level, the difference of internal rate of return between the forest types and selected managements were from 2.5% to 6.2%. Therefore, Norway spruce stands demonstrate good potential of independence regardless of stump removal at the previous rotation.

The increasing number of prosumers and the accompanying greater use of decentralised energy resources (DERs) bring new opportunities and challenges for the traditional electricity systems and the electricity markets. Microgrids, virtual power plants (VPPs), peer-to-peer (P2P) trading and federated power plants (FPPs) propose different schemes for prosumer coordination and have the potential of becoming the new paradigm of electricity market and power system operation. This paper proposes a P2P trading scheme for energy communities that negotiates power flows between participating prosumers with insufficient renewable power supply and prosumers with surplus supply in such a way that the community welfare is maximized while avoiding critical grid conditions. For this purpose, the proposed scheme is based on an Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problem with a Multi-Bilateral Economic Dispatch (MBED) formulation as an objective function. The solution is realized in a fully decentralized manner on the basis of the Relaxed Consensus + Innovations (RCI) algorithm. Network security is ensured by a tariff-based system organized by a network agent that makes use of product differentiation capabilities of the RCI algorithm. It is found that the proposed mechanism accurately finds and prevents hazardous network operations, such as over-voltage in grid buses, while successfully providing economic value to prosumers’ renewable generation within the scope of a P2P, free market.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify distinct segments of apparel shoppers based on their fashion shopping orientation. The difference among the segments based on mall attractive dimension is also examined. Design/methodology/approach The data were collected through mall intercept survey from the mall shoppers. Samples of 375 respondents are used for data analysis purpose. Exploratory factor analysis is used to extract the factors of fashion shopping orientation and mall attractive dimensions while K-means cluster analysis is applied to identify the segments. Findings This study resulted in three factors of fashion orientation of apparel shoppers, i.e. fashion involvement, variety seeking and economic value, and four factors of mall attractive dimensions: convenience, entertainment, atmosphere and architecture design. Based on these factors, this study came out with three distinct segments of fashion shoppers: pragmatic shoppers, variety seeking shoppers and highly fashioned shoppers. These three segments are attracted towards the mall dimension differently. Originality/value This paper presents the three distinct profiles of fashion shoppers based on their fashion shopping orientation and mall attractive dimensions. The findings of this study may help retailers and mall developers to target mall visitors appropriately.

Mangrove ecosystem services, aside for the fisheries sector, also have ecosystem services in mitigating climate change as carbon sinks and storage. Musi river estuary located in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra has the potential of mangrove forests as carbon reserves. The purpose of the study is to analyze the community structure, potential carbon stocks, and economic value of mangroves in the Musi River Estuary. Data were collected at five stations using the 100 m quadratic transect method vertically to the coastline. Data analysis was conducted based on the allometric equation for biomass information, carbon storage, and the economic value of carbon stores. Mangrove ecosystems in the Musi River estuary are Sonneratia alba, Nypa fruticans, Sonneratia casiolaris, and Rhizopora apiculata. Mangrove species that have important roles in the sustainability of ecosystems are Nypa fruticans and Sonneratia alba each with IVI of 145.6 and 101.28, respectively. Carbon storage of mangrove in the Musi river estuary is 107.34 tonC / ha and carbon dioxide absorption is 393.59 tCO2 / ha with a mangrove area of ± 5276 ha. The total estimated economic value of carbon generated from mangrove are Rp174.441.016.895 (free market) and Rp455.872.524.151 (CDM). Keywords: carbon, mangrove, Musi river estuary

Background: The quality of food service in a hospital can be assessed from the inpatients’ nutritional status. Food waste is an indicator of food service among inpatients. Besides its therapeutic value, food has a significant economic value. The wasting cost in term of food waste affects the total availability of food costs.Objective: This study analyzes the nutrient quantity and the cost of food waste among inpatients with regular diet at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta.Method: This was a cross sectional study. The subjects were inpatients aged 17 to 60 years old who got regular diet with length of stay was at least three days, and were willing to take part in this study (n=100). The amount of food waste was measured using the Comstock visual estimation. The cost of food waste was calculated as the proportion of food waste from cost per serving. The quantity of nutrients in food waste was calculated using the Food Processor 2 software. The data were analyzed using Chi-square test.Results: There was a difference of food waste according to gender. Rice waste was found more frequent among female (p<0,005). There was a difference of food waste according to ward class. There were more waste of meat and vegetables among inpatients in class II and the difference was significant (p<0,05). There were more waste of meat and vegetables among patients with length stay of 7 – 14 days and > 15 days (p<0,05). The vegetables and rice waste were more frequent among surgery and cancer inpatients (p<0,05). In average the nutritional value of food waste was 19,85% - 9,33% of a patient’s RDA, while the wasting cost per day was Rp 1265,08 or 10,79% of all food cost per day. The annual wasting cost of food waste was Rp 45.543.120 or 4,4% of the available budget of Rp 1.038.605.333,00.Conclusion: There were differences of food waste according to gender, ward class, length of stay, and kind of disease, especially rice, meat, and vegetables.
