This paper investigates factors affecting Vietnam’s stock prices including US stock prices, foreign exchange rates, gold prices and crude oil prices. Using the daily data from 2005 to 2012, the results indicate that Vietnam’s stock prices are influenced by crude oil prices. In addition, Vietnam’s stock prices are also affected significantly by US stock prices, and foreign exchange rates over the period before the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. There is evidence that Vietnam’s stock prices are highly correlated with US stock prices, foreign exchange rates and gold prices for the same period. Furthermore, Vietnam’s stock prices were cointegrated with US stock prices both before and after the crisis, and with foreign exchange rates, gold prices and crude oil prices only during and after the crisis.

We analyzed the dynamic recrystallization of pure lead by tensile testing with cyclic strain holding at room temperature. The specimens were held at an identical strain and subsequently reloaded, providing the strength before and after the strain holding process. The difference in strength enables factors affecting dynamic recrystallization behavior to be analyzed through mechanical testing. For instance, the effects of strain rate on dynamic recrystallization were analyzed by comparing the results obtained from tensile tests with and without strain holding. This experimental technique demonstrated some parts of contribution of elastic strain, dynamic recovery, dynamic recrystallization, and necking to stress-strain responses.

Pre‐relocation measures as well as measures collected subsequent to it were used to predict employees’ post‐relocation adaptation in a case where an entire plant relocated its premises. The distance between the old and the new site did not require home relocation, with the result that the change was deemed less of a “family issue” than an essentially work and organizational change. The sample consisted of 176 employees, for whom matched before and after questionnaires were available. Pre‐relocation measures included demographics, justification of management’s decision to relocate, and positive and negative emotional reactions to the move. In addition, measures of perceived changes were taken after the move. The three post‐relocation adaptation measures were work satisfaction, loyalty to the organization, and relocation satisfaction. Findings are discussed in the light of previous findings, although most of that research dealt with individual as opposed to plant relocation, and of very few studies dealing with post‐relocation variables.

Abstract The many hazards that await birds along their migratory routes may negatively affect their survival, especially among newly fledged young. We estimated survival of young Greater Snow Geese (Chen caerulescens atlantica) during fall migration from the High Arctic to temperate areas and examined factors affecting their survival over a five-year period, using two approaches. First, each year (1993–1997), we banded fledglings and adults in mid-August, just before their departure from Bylot Island in the High Arctic (Nunavut, Canada), and again at an important staging area 3,000 km to the south at the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area (Québec, Canada) in October; recovery data from those two banding periods allowed estimation of survival during fall migration. Second, we visually determined brood size of neck-banded females before and after the main portion of the migratory flight, to estimate survival of young. The two approaches yielded similar survival estimates and showed the same interannual variation, thus suggesting that estimates were reliable. Mortality of young shortly after fledging and during the fall migration was high, compared with that of adults (monthly survival 0.662 in young vs. 0.989 in adults). However, mortality of young after migration was similar to that of adults (monthly survival 0.969 in young vs. 0.972 in adults). Migration survival of young varied considerably among annual cohorts (range of 0.119–0.707 over five years), and most of the mortality appeared to be natural. Survival was especially low in years when (1) temperatures at time of fledging and start of migration were low (i.e. near or below freezing), (2) mean body mass of goslings near fledging was low, or (3) mean fledging date was late. Our results suggest that migration survival of young is affected by a combination of several factors (climatic conditions, body mass, and fledging date) and that survival is reduced when one of those factors intervenes.

Objective: To review the diagnosis and clinical course of a woman with hypophosphatasia who is being treated with newly approved enzyme replacement therapy, asfotase alfa. Methods: Clinical and laboratory data are presented. Results: This is a unique report of a woman with debilitating adult-onset hypophosphatasia who was successfully diagnosed with low alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and elevated vitamin B6 levels. Treatment with asfotase alfa resolved her chronic bony pain symptoms and quadrupled her daily pedometer step count. Furthermore, whole body scans before and after treatment showed less focal uptake overall, suggesting fracture healing after enzyme replacement therapy. Conclusion: Improvement in patient reported symptoms, daily pedometer count, and whole body scans was noted after treatment of adult-onset hypophosphatasia with asfotase alfa enzyme replacement therapy. The significance of increased ALP levels after treatment is currently unknown.

Diosmin is a natural compound with a wide range of biological activity, e.g., it improves lymphatic drainage, supports microcirculation, and increases venous tone, and venous elasticity, hence, it is applied in the pharmacotherapy of chronic venous disorders (CVD). The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between diosmin administration (2 × 600 mg daily) in patients suffering from CVD and the levels of selected factors influencing angiogenesis, which are involved in CVD pathophysiology. Thirty-five CVD patients were examined. Levels of plasma tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A and VEGF-C); angiostatin, interleukin 6 (IL-6), fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2); and plasminogen (PLG) were measured with an Elisa assay before and after three months of diosmin administration. The clinical symptoms of CVD were monitored using ultrasound images, echo Doppler assay, visual analogue scale (VAS), and measurement of the leg circumference. The average content of TNF alpha, VEGF-C, VEGF-A IL-6, and FGF2 decreased after the therapy with diosmin in a significant manner; with p < 0.001, p < 0.05, p < 0.05, p < 0.01, and p < 0.01, respectively, and a significant (p < 0.05) increase in the plasma angiostatin level after the three-month treatment was found. A significant (p < 0.05) decrease in edema and the average leg circumference of the patients was observed after the therapy. Diosmin influences the angiogenic and inflammatory mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of edema presented in patients with a different class of CVD.

Modified coconut oil (MCO) has been reported as a promising material for eradication of various fungi which are the primary causes of tinea capitis. The antifungal shampoo is reported as an effective adjuvant therapy for fungi infection. In order to develop MCO as an active ingredient in antifungal shampoo, formulation factors affecting the physical and antifungal properties of shampoo including type and amount of surfactants were investigated. The results indicated that formula containing triethanolamine lauryl sulfate (TLE), ranging from 40-70% w/w, showed the most transparency and stable among the primary surfactants used, suggesting the good compatibility with MCO. An addition of polyoxyethylene 20 sorbitan monolaurate (PSL), an auxiliary surfactant, in the range from 5-40%w/w could enhance the clearness of shampoo while the suitable amount of PSL is also depended on TLE concentration. Various surfactant mixtures of TLE ranging from 40-60%w/w and 20-40% w/w of PSL were selected to formulate MCO shampoo. All formulations of shampoo showed high transparency, effective cleaning action, good stability and Newtonian flow behavior. Moreover, all formulations could inhibit T. rubrum and M. canis both before and after temperature cycling test. Therefore, this study revealed good feasibility of MCO shampoos for tinea capitis treatment.

Though the non-rubber components have long been recognized to be a vital factor affecting the network of natural rubber (NR), the authentic role of non-rubber components on the network during accelerated storage has not been fully illuminated. This work attempts to clarify the impact of non-rubber components on the network for NR during accelerated storage. A natural network model for NR was proposed based on the gel content, crosslinking density, and the non-rubber components distribution for NR before and after centrifugation. Furthermore, the effect of non-rubber components on the network was investigated during accelerated storage. The results show that terminal crosslinking induced by non-rubber components and entanglements are primary factors affecting the network formation during accelerated storage. By applying the tube model to analyze the stress-strain curves of NR, we found that the contribution of the entanglements to the network formation is larger than that of terminal crosslinking during accelerated storage. The work highlights the role of non-rubber components on the network during accelerated storage, which is essential for understanding the storage hardening mechanism of NR.
