Conventional SAD patterns as obtained in the TEM present difficulties for identification of materials such as asbestiform minerals, although diffraction data is considered to be an important method for making this purpose. The preferred orientation of the fibers and the spotty patterns that are obtained do not readily lend themselves to measurement of the integrated intensity values for each d-spacing, and even the d-spacings may be hard to determine precisely because the true center location for the broken rings requires estimation. We have implemented an automatic method for diffraction pattern measurement to overcome these problems. It automatically locates the center of patterns with high precision, measures the radius of each ring of spots in the pattern, and integrates the density of spots in that ring. The resulting spectrum of intensity vs. radius is then used just as a conventional X-ray diffractometer scan would be, to locate peaks and produce a list of d,I values suitable for search/match comparison to known or expected phases.

Background: Electromagnetic detection is an important method of geophysical exploration. The transmitting system is an important part of the electromagnetic detection equipment. Methods: The general topologies of a transmitting system for EM instrument are analyzed. The basic principle of EM detection is interpreted. In order to improve the output power and give consideration to the dynamic performance, an electromagnetic transmitting system based on the tri-state boost converter is proposed in this paper. Results: The principle of the proposed transmitting system is analyzed. The topology of the proposed transmitting system is illustrated and the working modes of tri-state boost converter are given. Conclusion: The simulation model is established and the simulation experiment is carried out to verify the feasibility of the new electromagnetic transmitting system.

This chapter examines the relationship between a text and its glosses, using examples from the later Middle Ages. It discusses interlinear glosses, marginal glosses, catena commentaries, as well as the layout of glosses. It argues that medieval glossing represented a new way of thinking and an important method for engaging with the literary and scholarly tradition.

Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is an important method in data analysis, which was developed by Fisher. There are situations when there is impreciseness in data In order to analyze such data, the aim of this paper is to introduce for the first time an intuitionistic fuzzy two-factor ANOVA (2-D IFANOVA) without replication as an extension of the classical ANOVA and the one-way IFANOVA for a case where the data are intuitionistic fuzzy rather than real numbers. The proposed approach employs the apparatus of intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) and index matrices (IMs). The paper also analyzes a unique set of data on daily ticket sales for a year in a multiplex of Cinema City Bulgaria, part of Cineworld PLC Group, applying the two-factor ANOVA and the proposed 2-D IFANOVA to study the influence of “ season ” and “ ticket price ” factors. A comparative analysis of the results, obtained after the application of ANOVA and 2-D IFANOVA over the real data set, is also presented.

AbstractIn this paper, the principle and application of atomic force microscopy (AFM) are reviewed and discussed in detail. Several scientific papers are used to find out data about AFM. The obtained scientific results are summarized to get a better understanding of the method and its application. The application of AFM for corrosion study is discussed in detail, and the possible conclusion is made based on the results of several articles. It is summarized that AFM is an important method to determine the surface phenomena of metal corrosion.

SUMMARYIncorporation of rice straw into soil has traditionally been an important method of recycling nutrients and improving soil productivity. Currently, although the effects of straw incorporation on disease severity have been documented, the dynamics of the pathogen in soil after straw incorporation are poorly understood. In the present study, rice straw with various proportions of diseased straw was incorporated at three separate locations (SuPu town, SuSong County and FengYang County) in Anhui province, China. The pathogen dynamics in paddy soil and disease severity of sheath blight during two continuous years from April 2010 to April 2012 were investigated. For all three locations, the amount of pathogen inoculum that persisted in the soil increased with increases in the proportion of diseased straw incorporated. Incorporation of 0·3 and 0·5 diseased straw into soil increased the amount of pathogen inoculum in the soil significantly, whereas incorporation of 0·1 diseased straw into soil had no significant effect on the pathogen inoculum compared with the control (no straw incorporated) or disease severity. Incorporation of healthy rice straw (no disease) resulted in a significant decrease in disease severity, whereas proportions of 0·3 and 0·5 diseased straw resulted in a significant increase of disease severity compared with the control. These results suggested that incorporation of diseased straw enhanced pathogen numbers in soil during the whole decomposition period and increased disease severity. To avoid soil-borne disease accumulation, severely diseased straw should be removed from the field or pre-treated before incorporation.

Consistency properties and their model existence theorems have provided an important method of constructing models for fragments of L∞ω. In [E] Ellentuck extended this construction to Suslin logic. One of his extensions, the Borel consistency property, has its extra rule based not on the semantic interpretation of the extra symbols but rather on a theorem of Sierpinski about the classical operation . In this paper we extend that consistency property to the game logic LG and use it to show how one can extend results about and its countable fragments to LG and certain of its countable fragments. The particular formation of LG which we use will allow in the game quantifier infinite alternation of countable conjunctions and disjunctions as well as infinite alternation of quantifiers. In this way LG can be viewed as an extension of Suslin logic.
