Summary Gerardus Joannes Vossius (1577–1649) published his De arte grammatica libri septem in 1635. From the second edition in 1662 the work became known as Vossius’s Aristarchus. This important Latin grammar of Vossius, and also his other publications devoted to Latin, have their particular place in the evolution of grammatical studies in the 17th century. Vossius’s works were used in the first place because in them he had given a complete survey and systematization of all the scholarly information concerning Latin existing up to his own days. Neoscholastic Aristotelism was the philosophical basis of his treatment with Latin language and grammar. However, we find at the same time in Vossius’s work sometimes hints at a new approach to the study of Latin grammar. He followed in many respects the new directions pointed out by men like Scaliger and Sanctius. Thus, on the one hand, Vossius stood in the Humanist tradition of his day while, on the other, his work could be used profitably also by the Port-Royal grammarians and other philologist of the late 17th and 18th centuries. Following an appraisal of Vossius’s place in the Humanist tradition and of the contribution he made in his Aristarchus, the paper deals at some length with the analogy principle as used by Vossius and his successors. It concludes with sections on the evolution of grammatical ideas in the 17th and early 18th centuries marked especially by the tradition associated with the works of Sanctius, Vossius, and Port-Royal.

The authors systematically collated, classified, and evaluated the evidence of intervention studies from recent systematic reviews about the effects of telehealth interventions on COPD and asthma care. Eight electronic databases were searched. Eligible articles were those published between 2001 and 2011 in English. Eleven review articles are included. Asthma and COPD are better controlled when patients use interactive technological tools to monitor their chronic disease. The effects of telehealth interventions on emergency department attendance, specific quality of life, and mortality remained less certain. Only some reviews mentioned if the cost-effectiveness was systematically analyzed. Telehealth promises to be a highly effective intervention in managing chronic lung diseases while also potentially reducing some of the economic burdens of asthma and COPD. New directions in telehealth developments, implementations, and evaluations should be made, in which the exchange of health information should not be over simplified, but rather reflect the different socio-cultural practices of population groups and individuals.

In the modern world, new trends, news, new directions and methods in the field of education and science, which occurred in any country, form their own peculiar system. All areas and areas of education and science, in accordance with modern requirements, are moving on new technologies to innovative teaching methods. Also, in the field of physical education and sports, the educational process is at the transition stage using new teaching methods. Although the basic structure of the preparatory period for athletes has been preserved, the skills and abilities, means, methods, as well as sanitary and hygienic standards, adaptive, recreational, rehabilitation and other methods that improve the results of athletes are updated. For example, before, to improve the results of athletes, it was used as the main, and in some cases, as the only method - physical training, therefore, it was precisely on it that the main emphasis was made. In accordance with the new trends of the time, the range of new tools and methods is expanding, which means that to improve the results in sports, there are needs to prevent the psychological state of athletes through the pedagogical process.

Some established and also novel techniques in the field of applications of algorithmic (Kolmogorov) complexity currently co-exist for the first time and are here reviewed, ranging from dominant ones such as statistical lossless compression to newer approaches that advance, complement and also pose new challenges and may exhibit their own limitations. Evidence suggesting that these different methods complement each other for different regimes is presented and despite their many challenges, some of these methods can be better motivated by and better grounded in the principles of algorithmic information theory. It will be explained how different approaches to algorithmic complexity can explore the relaxation of different necessary and sufficient conditions in their pursuit of numerical applicability, with some of these approaches entailing greater risks than others in exchange for greater relevance. We conclude with a discussion of possible directions that may or should be taken into consideration to advance the field and encourage methodological innovation, but more importantly, to contribute to scientific discovery. This paper also serves as a rebuttal of claims made in a previously published minireview by another author, and offers an alternative account.

The complexity, dynamicity, and unexpectedness of conditions for functioning of contemporary enterprises strengthen requirements to effectiveness of their activities. This process demands for searching new directions of development. The efficient implementation of these directions stipulates the necessity for forming the specific methodology for managing such development based on peculiarities of existing conditions. A subject of the scientific article is the methodology for managing the development of an enterprise under the neo-technological reproduction. A purpose of research is to form the methodology for managing the diversification integrational development of an enterprise under the neo-technological reproduction grounded in the mutually reinforced unity of methodologies for the cognition, practical value, and evaluation. To achieve the purpose, the author has done the research by applying the following methods: analogy; abstraction; grouping; comparison, system analysis. The author suggests and proves the expediency of forming the methodology for managing the diversification integrational development of an enterprise under the neo-technological reproduction grounded in the mutually reinforced unity of methodologies for the cognition, practical value, and evaluation. The author substantiates the mutually reinforced influence of the main aspects of forming each of the indicated methodologies. The author describes peculiarities of building each of the methodologies, taking into account the content, structure, and purpose of their key elements under contemporary conditions of development. The author proves that development of a disciplinary paradigm depending on the level of complexity of the examined issues and ways managers can solve them is the ground for the mutually reinforced unity of the considered methodologies. The suggested approach to forming the methodology for managing the diversification integrational development of an enterprise under the neo-technological reproduction enables to determine and ensure the integrity of enterprise’s processes at the expense of managerial decisions made in accordance with the evaluation, which maximally takes into account relevant, accurate, and systematized information on processes and phenomena as the basis for up-to-date knowledge and views on managing the development of an enterprise under the neo-technological reproduction.

ABSTRACTLow dimensionality provides opportunities to modify the properties of bulk materials dramatically and to control materials properties independently in a manner that is not possible for bulk materials. The special characteristics of low dimensional materials to enhance thermoelectric performance have already been demonstrated in quantum wells, quantum wires and quantum dots. The main focus of this review is a summary of advances made in the modeling of quantum dot superlattice nanowires. Several new research directions for low dimensional thermoelectricity or inspired by this research are briefly mentioned.

The music made in Washington DC in the late 1970s and early 1980s fundamentally changed punk. Washington DC was a different environment than the other cities where punk was based in that it was majority Black during this period, with a significant Black presence in the suburbs. The emergence of Bad Brains, an all-Black quartet, at the center of the scene established punk as an authentic form of expression for African Americans and other people of color. Bad Brains and Minor Threat also raised the stakes for musicality in hardcore punk, with complex songs played with virtuosic technique, and they reintroduced elements such as blues-based riffs and rhythmic variations. This chapter also describes the ways in which the punk scene in Washington DC solidified punk’s status as music by and for teenagers and Generation X.

Yeast—especially Saccharomyces cerevisiae—have long been a preferred workhorse for the production of numerous recombinant proteins and other metabolites. S. cerevisiae is a noteworthy aroma compound producer and has also been exploited to produce foreign bioflavour compounds. In the past few years, important strides have been made in unlocking the key elements in the biochemical pathways involved in the production of many aroma compounds. The expression of these biochemical pathways in yeast often involves the manipulation of the host strain to direct the flux towards certain precursors needed for the production of the given aroma compound. This review highlights recent advances in the bioengineering of yeast—including S. cerevisiae—to produce aroma compounds and bioflavours. To capitalise on recent advances in synthetic yeast genomics, this review presents yeast as a significant producer of bioflavours in a fresh context and proposes new directions for combining engineering and biology principles to improve the yield of targeted aroma compounds.
