ABSTRACT     Skin is an essential and vital organ and a reflection of health. Natural antioxidants such as flavonoids, polyphenols and Sapponin are believed to increase moisture on the skin. This ability is the main reason for using Torch Ginger flower extract which is formulated into a form of facial mask in the form of clay facial mask. Objective: To formulate facial moisturizing mask preparations using the extract of Torch Ginger(Etlingera elatior). This study used the Torch Ginger Flower extract facial moisturizing mask formulation method with a concentration of 0 (Blank), 5% and 10%. Evaluation of mask preparations included homogeneity, stability of dosage at temperatures of 80C and 250C, Organoleptic test and pH of preparations. Measurements of skin moisture activity were measured using alar Skin Analyzer which was tested on the face surface 3cm wide. The results showed that the preparation was stable in terms of odor, color and was at a pH of 4.2-6.3 using observations of litmus discoloration. Effectiveness of facial skin moisture with 10% Torch Ginger extract concentration is more effective to produce results at a concentration of 5% and blank. Conclusion: Torch Ginger flower extract can be formulated into preparations of face masks with various concentrations and has the effect of moisturizing the skin and brightening the complexion. AbstractThe interest in skin microbiome differences by ethnicity, age, and gender is increasing. Compared to other ethnic groups, studies on the skin microbiome of Koreans remains insufficient; we investigated facial skin microbiome characteristics according to gender and age among Koreans. Fifty-one healthy participants were recruited, the facial skin characteristics of each donor were investigated, their skin bacterial DNA was isolated and metagenomic analysis was performed. The donors were divided into two groups for age and sex each to analyze their skin microbiomes. Moreover, we investigated the correlation between the skin microbiome and clinical characteristics. The alpha diversity of the skin microbiome was significantly higher in the elderly, and beta diversity was significantly different according to age. The comparative skin microbials showed that the genus Lawsonella was more abundant in the younger age group, and Enhydrobacter was predominant in the older age group. Staphylococcus and Corynebacterium were more abundant in males, while Lactobacillus was more abundant in females. Lawsonella had a negative correlation with skin moisture and brown spots. Staphylococcus and Corynebacterium both had negative correlations with the number of UV spots and positive correlations with transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Furthermore, Staphylococcus aureus had a negative correlation with skin moisture parameters.

Asparagus is a vegetable that contains phenolic compounds with antioxidant properties that scavenges aging-triggering free radicals. This study aimed to investigate the components and anti-aging potentials of Ethanol Extract form Asparagus (EEA). The study was performed in February 2020 at the Pharmacy Laboratory, University of North Sumatera. The EEA was obtained through maceration using 96% ethanol. An antioxidant assay was performed and the total phenol and flavodoid content were determined using the spectroscopic method. Three gel formulas with different concentrations of EEA was prepared (F1: 1.5%, F2: 2.5%, and F3: 3.5%), and F0 was used as control. The parameters evaluated were moisture, oil content, texture, collagen, wrinkle, pigment, sensitivity, and pore. The result showed that asparagus had a moderate antioxidant activity (IC50: 118,992) with the total phenol and flavonoid contents of 15,9407 mg GAE/g and 3,2286 mg QE/g extract, respectively. The highest aging activities was seen in F3 (3.5%), followed by F2 (2.5%) and F1 (1.5%). The percentage of moisture, oil, texture, collagen, wrinkle, spot, sensitivity, and pore recovery were found to be 40.15%, 49.73%, 71.76%, 17.70%, 70.93%, 49.34%, 42.56% and 25.31%, respectively. Hence, it can be concluded that the EEA Gel at the highest concentration (3.5%) has a high content of phenol and flavonoid which can improve the skin moisture, oil content, texture, collagen, wrinkles, spots, sensitivity, and pores, which promotes anti-aging activities.

Artocarpus heterophyllus (Ah), common name as nangka,  has been reported to have antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemia, antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. Balinese women used its leaves for facial treatment. This study aims to evaluate its leaf potency for facial skin care. Ethanol extract of Ah (EEAh) that obtained by maceration was prepared into 3 clay mask formulations (FI: 1%, FII:3% and FIII:5%). F0 was used as control group. A total of 12 volunteers were treated with clay mask to evaluate its effect on moisture and pores size after intervention. The data were analysed using Kruskall Wallis and Mann Whitney test. The results showed that skin moisture increased after intervention (FI:3.7%; FII:4.7%;FIII:7.3%). Pores size decreased in FI (6.3%) and FII (13.4%). Statistically, there were significant different between F0-F1 (p=0.043), F0-F2 and F0-F3 (p=0.046 of each). The present study conclude that clay mask containing A. heterophyllus leaf ethanol extract have potency to be used as facial skin care.

AbstractSoap facial cleanser is needed to keep the facial skin to keep them clean and healthy. The purpose of this study to make soap cleanser with natural materials such as hard water deposits leri. This is because the use of leri water starch or starch granules of fine particles contained in water leri dansel dust can shed the dead skin on the face because of the essential amino acids contained can regenerate skin cells. In addition, water leri can brighten the face because the leri water oryzanol contain substances that can update the development and formation of the pigment melanin, which is effectively to ward off ultraviolet rays. The process of making soap using the principle of saponification reaction, namely the reaction between the oil and the KOH/NaOH. Facial cleansing soap made in this study is solid soap. Based on the results of quality test, soap solid leri water has a pH of 11.1, saponification number is 33, the water content of 46% as well as respondents to the test aspects of aroma and foam shows good results so this water leri treatment can be an alternative solution to prevent the use of soap facial cleansers that contain harmful chemicals. Keywords: air leri, soap cleanser, saponification  AbstrakSabun pembersih wajah sangat diperlukan untuk menjaga kulit wajah agar tetap bersih dan sehat.
