Influence of Water-Splash Formation by a Hydrophilic Body Plunging Into Water

The objective of this study is to understand the relationship between water-splash formation and the surface conditions of bodies plunging into the water’s surface by considering hydrophilicity strength. A hydrophilic body (constructed with hydrogel), as well as an acrylic resin body, was created to understand the influence of hydrophilicity on splash formation. The strength of hydrophilicity was determined by investigating degrees of swelling. We obtained consecutive images of splash formation by using a high-speed CMOS camera. We show that water-splash formation is related to water-film formation by studying: 1) droplets formed at the film edge, 2) mushroom-or dome-type splashes caused by film impinging, and 3) crown-type splash caused by film separation. The strength of hydrophilicity affects the splash-formation process of the mushroom- and crown-type splashes. The difference in formation process is caused when the film velocity increases with hydrophilicity. As the film velocity increases with strong hydrophilicity, the film flow separates from the body surface and an air cavity forms. Crown-type splashes form with hydrophilic bodies because such film separation occurs. Moreover, the relationship between the strength of hydrophilicity and film velocity was examined empirically. These results indicate that the hydrophilic body does not alter the splash-formation process.

The respiratory rates of three species of planktonic copepods, Acartia clausi, Centropages hamatus and Temora longicornis, were measured at four different temperatures.The relationship between respiratory rate and temperature was found to be similar to that previously found for Calanus, although the slope of the curves differed in the different species.The observations on Centropages at 13 and 170 C. can be divided into two groups and it is suggested that the differences are due to the use of copepods from two different generations.The relationship between the respiratory rates and lengths of Acartia and Centropages agreed very well with that previously found for other species. That for Temora was rather different: the difference is probably due to the distinct difference in the shape of the body of Temora from those of the other species.The application of these measurements to estimates of the food requirements of the copepods is discussed.

The small-world model provides a useful perspective and method to study the topological structure and intrinsic characteristics of high-speed rail networks (HRNs). In this paper, the P-space method is used to examine global and local HRNs in China, meanwhile the adjacency matrix is developed, then the social network analysis and visualization tool UCINET is used to calculate the spatial and attribute data of HRNs at national and local levels in China. The small-world characteristics of whole HRNs are discussed, three networks which have different properties are determined, and a comparative analysis of the small-world effect is detected. Then, the relationship between the construction of high-speed rail and regional development of China is analysed. The results show that: 1) China's HRNs have small average path length ( L ) and large clustering coefficient (C ), representing a typical small-world network; 2) Local HRNs have a certain correlation with economic development. The reasons for the difference of HRNs with respect to characteristics among regions are eventually discussed.

Abstract Electrophoretic deposition provides material-efficient film formation on large area electrodes. In this study, it has been found that there is a significant difference in the colloidal particle formation process between a thiophene-based copolymer poly(3-octylthiophene- 2,5-diyl-co-3-decyloxythiophene-2,5-diyl) (POT-co-DOT) and C60 in preparation of suspension for electrophoretic deposition by reprecipitation method. This difference is attributed to the difference between low molecular weight materials with specific molecular weight and polymers with molecular weight distribution. The composition of POT-co-DOT:C60 composite film by electrophoretic deposition has also been estimated.

The rollover phenomenon is a particularly dangerous problem. This phenomenon occurs when the driver travels at high speed and suddenly steers. Under the influence of centrifugal force, the body vehicle will be tilted and cause the wheels to lift off the road. To solve this problem, the method of using an active stabilizer bar has been proposed. The active stabilizer bar is controlled automatically by a previously designed controller. The performance of the active stabilizer bar depends on the selected control method. Previous research often only used a half-car dynamics model combined with a linear single-track dynamics model to simulate the vehicle’s oscillation. In addition, most of the research focuses only on the use of linear control methods for the active stabilizer bar. Therefore, the performance of the stabilizer bar is not guaranteed. This paper focuses on establishing the model of spatial dynamics combined with the nonlinear double-track dynamics model that fully describes the vehicle’s oscillation most accurately. Besides, the fuzzy control method is proposed to control the operation of the hydraulic stabilizer bar. This is a completely novel model, and it is suitable for the actual traveling conditions of the vehicle. Also, simulations are done based on different scenarios. The results of the paper showed that the values of the roll angle, the difference in the vertical force at the wheels, and the displacement of the unsprung mass were significantly reduced when the vehicle used the active stabilizer bar, which is controlled by an intelligent control method. Therefore, the stability and safety of the vehicle have been guaranteed. This result will be the basis for performing other more complex research in the future.

Combining with rotational speed measurement methods and underwater environment particularity, an independent velocity measurement scheme applicable to small underwater high-speed moving body was proposed in this paper. The structural design of the measurement device was designed and signal process method was improved, and the relationship between turbine rotational speed and speed of the body was obtained by FLUNET dynamics simulation and water tunnel experiments. Finally, the simulation and experimental results were analyzed. The results show that this method is effective and feasible within a certain range of accuracy.

AbstractWhat is the young Marx's attitude towards questions of psychology? More precisely, what is his attitude towards the human mind and its relationship to the body? To deal adequately with this issue requires a consideration of the relationship between Marx and Feuerbach. It also requires some discussion of the thought of Aristotle. For the views of Feuerbach and the young Marx are (in some respects) not at all original. Rather, they represent a continuation of a long tradition which derives ultimately from ancient Greek philosophy, and especially from the philosophy of Aristotle. As is well known, Aristotle's thought with respect to questions of psychology are mostly presented, by way of a critique of the doctrines of the other philosophers of his day, in his De Anima. W.H. Walsh has made the perceptive observation that Aristotle's views might be seen as an attempt to develop a third approach which avoids the pitfalls usually associated with the idealism of Plato, on the one hand, and the materialism of Democritus on the other. It might be argued that there is an analogy between the situation in which Aristotle found himself in relation to the idealists and materialists of his own day and that which confronted Marx in the very early 1840s. For, like Aristotle, Marx also might be seen as attempting to develop such a third approach. The difference is simply that, in the case of Marx, the idealism in question is that of Hegel rather than that of Plato, and the materialism is the ‘mechanical materialism’ of the eighteenth century rather than that of Democritus. This obvious parallel might well explain why Marx took such a great interest in Aristotle's De Anima both during and shortly after doing the preparatory work for his doctoral dissertation – the subject matter of which, of course, is precisely the materialist philosophy of the ancient Greek atomists Democritus and Epicurus.

This paper examines the question: what is the experience of meeting online and how does it differ from ordinary classroom situations? Drawing from personal experience, the author explores possible experiences of existing in virtual space and time. How do people meet, get to know each other and, interact in a pedagogical situation? Her experience as an online student made her to seriously reflect on the experiential nature of the computer-mediated encounter. But, it was not until she happened to participate in a workshop offered by the same teacher that the contrasts began to take shape for her. If there is a difference between online and offline meetings, what is it that makes the difference? Online communication could, just as face-to-face meetings, create feelings of closeness, and friendship; from the other-as-a-text on the screen, we subjectively create the other-as-an-idea, an idea that might be perceived as the real other. But is it? What reality is for real? What is the nature of the relationship established between body-less persons on line, and what difference does the body make in a face-to-face meeting?

For women the body is an important concept in clothing aesthetics. Body image is an important factor influencing what women like in clothing and what they choose to wear.In this study, which has been prepared with the aim of stressing the importance of the relationship between "Clothing Preference" and "Body Image", women's ability to minimize the difference between their ideal appearance and their actual appearance, as well as their ability to possess a good self-image and powerful self-confidence, have been studied.Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used in this study. The sample is 150 women aged 18-50 within the Konya Province in Turkey limits. The research concluded that while there was a relationship between the visual and verbal clothing choices for the women in the sample group, there was less of a match among their visual choices.

Abstract BackgroundPrevious studies have shown that hyperuricemia is involved in diabetes, obesity, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and other diseases. At the same time, studies have shown that vitamin D3 levels in the body are linked to the onset of diabete. However, there is currently no sufficient evidence to prove whether this connection is affected by uric acid levels. Therefore, we attempted to investigate the relationship between vitamin D3 content and the occurrence of diabetes in the hyperuricemia population by using the data of the NHANES database from 2009 to 2018.MethodWe conducted a cross-sectional study using the NHANES database. According to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, we finally selected 3543 representative data. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between vitamin D3 and diabetes in the hyperuricemia population after complete adjustment. We found a linear relationship between vitamin D3 content and the incidence of diabetes.ResultThe results of this study showed that there was a correlation between the content of vitamin D3 and the incidence of diabetes in people with hyperuricemia, and the effect values (OR and 95% confidence interval) were 0.95and (0.92-0.98), respectively, and the difference was statistically significant.ConclusionOur study shows that vitamin D3 content is associated with the incidence of diabetes in people with high uric acid. This study provides a new idea for exploring the factors affecting the pathogenesis of diabetes in patients with hyperuricemia.

SUMMARY Determining how the motor patterns of the nervous system are converted into the mechanical and behavioral output of the body is a central goal in the study of locomotion. In the case of dipteran flight, a population of small steering muscles controls many of the subtle changes in wing kinematics that allow flies to maneuver rapidly. We filmed the wing motion of tethered Calliphora vicina at high speed and simultaneously recorded multi-channel electromyographic signals from some of the prominent steering muscles in order to correlate kinematics with muscle activity. Using this analysis, we found that the timing of each spike in the basalare muscles was strongly correlated with changes in the deviation of the stroke plane during the downstroke. The relationship was non-linear such that the magnitude of the kinematic response to each muscle spike decreased with increasing levels of stroke deviation. This result suggests that downstroke deviation is controlled in part via the mechanical summation of basalare activity. We also found that interactions among the basalares and muscles III2–III4 determine the maximum forward amplitude of the wingstroke. In addition, activity in muscle I1 appears to participate in a wingbeat gearing mechanism, as previously proposed. Using these results, we have been able to correlate changes in wing kinematics with alteration in the spike rate, firing phase and combinatorial activity of identified steering muscles.
