It was developed to support and inform practice for all those who work with the potential and aspirations of whānau towards improved wellbeing. This cultural framework guides the reclamation of practice wisdom inherent within whānau.Whānau are experts of their everyday lived experiences, and hold the knowledge of their stories, past and present, aspirations, issues and complex dynamics that exist between whānau members and their extended and external relationships (Eruera, 2010).The framework is founded in the belief that transformation for whānau must be informed and sustained by whānau themselves. Furthermore, under the right conditions, support and resources, whānau have potential to effect their own positive change towards wellness. This article seeks to:describe the Te Ara Whakapikiōranga framework construction process, which is itself a whānau-centred approach;outline the four wahanga of the framework: te āu i te whānau, puna ki te puna, te tohu o te rangatira, hono mai hono atu;provide examples of the framework application into practice.

Finite element analysis and calculation are held on the superstructure of the auxiliary channel bridge at the right branching of Beijiang Bridge for a short condition and the service phase. The theoretical launching force is calculated and amended in construction. The results show that when considering load effects such as the dead loads of box girders, the live loads of decks and the pre-stressed secondary forces, the eccentric stress state will appear on the webs, and the steel stress produced by shrinkage and creep of concrete can not be ignored. So the launching force must be amended during the construction process. These conclusions have a certain reference value on the bridge design and construction.

Volunteer separated property has evolved since the Civil Law, restored at this time, has developed the Case Law on the plot of land available for use with the right to construct the building as an independent object of property, but there is no single regulatory framework regarding the requirements that should confine itself to the initiator of the construction of the building to the actual possessor of the construction process property and social functions.

In order to study the interaction between the left and right tunnels of suspension bridge tunnel-type anchorage, the finite difference numerical software is used to analyze the mechanical properties of the surrounding rock during the construction process. A numerical analysis model based on FLAC3D is established to analyze the stress, displacement and plastic zone changes of the surrounding rock of right tunnel anchor cavern during the construction of left tunnel anchor cavern. The right tunnel anchor cavern is excavated firstly, and then the left tunnel anchor cavern is excavated. The numerical simulation results show that the main displacement of the right tunnel occurs in the construction stage of the anchor plug body and the rear anchor cavern of the left tunnel. During the excavation of the left tunnel, the plastic zones of the left and right tunnel anchor caverns are only connected above the middle of the waist wall. Therefore, it is suggested that during the construction process, especially in the excavation stage of the anchor plug body and the rear anchor cavern, the area above the middle of the tunnel waist wall should be strengthened in time to ensure the construction safety.

Uncertainties are systematically considered and dealt with by applying probabilistic calculation methods, such as Monte Carlo simulations. When selecting appropriate distribution functions for input parameters, users are constantly faced with the issue of having to choose the "right" distribution function for the relevant parameter. Quantities of individual works play a crucial role for costing and pricing, but also for construction process and logistics planning purposes. Quantities stated by the client in its structural specifications are fraught with uncertainties owing to, for instance, incomplete plans at the time of specification, inaccurate calculations, or mere estimates. This is why actual quantities can either be greater or smaller than the specified quantities. This paper demonstrates how distribution functions can be derived from expert surveys delivering responses from actual construction practice. Specific reference is made to reinforcement works whilst distinguishing between public and private clients. The outcomes of the survey presented and discussed in this paper include descriptive data analyses as well as violin plots and fitted distribution functions.

Students rarely question the relevance of most communication courses. For example, most students realize that courses focused on improving public speaking and interpersonal skills will benefit them personally and professionally after graduation. Convincing them that a rhetorical theory and criticism course is equally empowering can be a bit more challenging. This essay explores one approach for teaching rhetorical theory and criticism as uniquely relevant in the educational experience of communication students. By applying various rhetorical perspectives to artifacts that resonate with students’ actual lived experiences, students become empowered advocates for positive change.

During the eighteenth century Portugal developed a large military construction process in the Ultramarine possessions, in order to compete with the new born colonial trading empires, mainly Great Britain, Netherlands and France. The Portuguese colonial seashores of the Atlantic Ocean (since the middle of the sixteenth century) and of the Indian Ocean (from the end of the first quarter of the seventeenth century) were repeatedly coveted, and the huge Portuguese colony of Brazil was also harassed in the south during the eighteenth century –here due to problems in a diplomatic and military dispute with Spain, related with the global frontiers’ design of the Iberian colonies. The Treaty of Madrid (1750) had specifically abrogated the Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) between Portugal and Spain, and the limits of Brazil began to be defined on the field. Macapá is situated in the western branch of Amazonas delta, in the singular cross-point of the Equator with Tordesillas Meridian, and the construction of a big fortress began in the year of 1764 under direction of Enrico Antonio Galluzzi, an Italian engineer contracted by Portuguese administration to the Commission of Delimitation, which arrived in Brazil in 1753. In consequence of the political panorama in Europe after the Seven Years War (1756-1763), a new agreement between Portugal and Spain was negotiated (after the regional conflict in South America), achieved to the Treaty of San Idefonso (1777), which warranted the integration of the Amazonas basin. It was strategic the decision to build, one year before, the huge fortress of Príncipe da Beira, arduously realized in the most interior of the sub-continent, 2000 km from the sea throughout the only possible connection by rivers navigation. Domingos Sambucetti, another Italian engineer, was the designer and conductor of the jobs held on the right bank of Guaporé River, future frontier’s line with Bolivia. São José de Macapá and Príncipe da Beira are two big fortresses Vauban’ style, built under very similar projects by two Italian engineers (each one dead with malaria in the course of building), with the observance of the most exigent rules of the treaties of military architecture.

Choosing and optimizing treatment strategies for cancer requires capturing its complex dynamics sufficiently well for understanding but without being overwhelmed. Mathematical models are essential to achieve this understanding, and we discuss the challenge of choosing the right level of complexity to address the full range of tumor complexity from growth, the generation of tumor heterogeneity, and interactions within tumors and with treatments and the tumor microenvironment. We discuss the differences between conceptual and descriptive models, and compare the use of predator-prey models, evolutionary game theory, and dynamic precision medicine approaches in the face of uncertainty about mechanisms and parameter values. Although there is of course no one-size-fits-all approach, we conclude that broad and flexible thinking about cancer, based on combined modeling approaches, will play a key role in finding creative and improved treatments.

In the construction process, many interests come in conflict, which can be contradictory to each other. Conditionally, these interests can be divided into two groups, first of all, neighbours’ interests, mainly attributable to the private laws, secondly, the public or general interests, which are mainly related with the right to a benevolent environment. The above mentioned interests shall be reconciled, based on the basic rights, consolidated in the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia, which, in general, ensure a person's involvement in the public construction process at the constitutional level.

One of the most important stages in the construction process is selecting the right contractor considering the smallest price that may raise many doubts. The cheapest option may be uneconomical in view of a failure of technical quality and assessment of building lifetime. The article reviews literature and worldwide used practice to establish the most important factors of contractor’s competitiveness. The paper also determines the main factors of the competitiveness of roofing contractors and evaluates quality as a competitive advantage of the companies having influence on other factors of competitiveness. In conclusion; important proposals for assessing the competitiveness of the contractor and recommendations for future research are provided.

Abstract Restoration of concrete structures implies repair of damage and a surface treatment which prevents future damage of the load bearing structure in case it is renewed in time. Depending on the performance of the protective surface treatment the substrate has to be prepared more or less carefully. On the one hand it is worth while to apply an inexpensive solution appropriate for a given situation and on the other hand to predict the optimal time for a necessary intervention. Different types of surface treatments can be attributed to discrete stages of expenses. In this contribution it is shown that based on a reliable analysis of the actual state, the cheapest type of restoration can be found in an unambiguous way and executed at the right moment. At the end examples are given. The necessary investment can be optimized. Finally, it will be underlined that money spent for quality control during the construction process can be considered to be an investment yielding 17% interest.
