Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cells’ growth which affect cells and make them damaged. Many treatment options for cancer exist. Chemotherapy as an important treatment option is the use of drugs to treat cancer. The anticancer drug travels to the tumor and then diffuses in it through capillaries. The diffusion of drugs in the solid tumor is limited by penetration depth which is different in case of different drugs and cancers. The computation of this depth is important as it helps physicians to investigate about treatment of infected tissue. Although many efforts have been made on studying and measuring drug penetration depth, less works have been done on computing this length from a mathematical point of view. In this paper, first we propose phase lagging model for diffusion of drug in the tumor. Then, using this model on one side and considering the classic diffusion on the other side, we compute the drug penetration depth in the solid tumor. This computed value of drug penetration depth is corroborated by comparison with the values measured by experiments.

AbstractIn this work, an extension of the strain energy for fibrous metamaterials composed of two families of parallel fibers lying on parallel planes and joined by connective elements is proposed. The suggested extension concerns the possibility that the constituent fibers come into contact and eventually scroll one with respect to the other with consequent dissipation due to friction. The fibers interact with each other in at least three different ways: indirectly, through microstructural connections that could allow a relative sliding between the two families of fibers; directly, as the fibers of a family can touch each other and can scroll introducing dissipation. From a mathematical point of view, these effects are modeled first by introducing two placement fields for the two fiber families and adding a coupling term to the strain energy and secondly by adding two other terms that take into account the interdistance between the parallel fibers and the Rayleigh dissipation potential (to account for friction).

3582 Background: The novel structure (non-peptide based) of NPI-0052 (NPI) appears to lead to unique proteasome inhibition (PI), toxicology and signal transduction profiles. Preclinical research suggests improvements in therapeutic ratio and activity in hematologic and solid tumor models, leading to clinical trials in patients with myeloma, lymphomas, leukemias, and solid tumors. Methods: Patients with solid tumor, lymphoma or leukemia diagnoses without standard treatment options were treated with IV NPI on Days 1, 8 and 15 of 28-day cycles in a 3+3 design dose escalation to a Recommended Phase 2 Dose (RP2D). Enrollment then began in 10 patient lymphoma and CLL RP2D cohorts. PI (D1 and D15) and PK (D1 and D15) were assayed. Results: 30 patients were treated at doses ranging from 0.1 mg/m2 to 0.9 mg/m2. 0.7 mg/m2 was selected as the RP2D secondary to DLT of transient “hallucinations” (visual imprints when eyes closed) and dizziness/unsteady gait at 0.9 mg/m2. At the RP2D fatigue, parosmia/dysgeusia, transient peri-infusion site pain and lymphopenia were commonly ascribed to NPI. At the RP2D PK data showed: half-life = 31 ± 28 min; AUCtotal = 270 ± 219 ng/mL*min; Cmax = 33.4 ± 34.2 ng/mL; clearance = 7.17 ± 0.40 L/min; volume of distribution (Vz) = 223.3 ± 229.7 L. PI was assayed in blood, indicating a dose:response relationship with mean inhibition of chymotrypsin-like activity up to of 88% Day 1 and 100% Day 15, and inhibition of caspase-like and trypsin-like activity of up to 51% and 72%. PI remained between doses in whole blood (RBC), but recovered between doses in PBMC. Stable disease was induced in 31% of patients, including one each with mantle cell, Hodgkin's lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, sarcoma, prostate carcinoma, and two with melanoma. Conclusions: NPI-0052 produces dose-dependent pharmacologic effects through the predicted efficacious range to an MTD, while producing a toxicity profile that is tolerable and dissimilar to bortezomib in spite of reaching higher PI levels. These data indicate potential for a greater range of uses than other proteasome inhibitors and lead to additional studies being initiated in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors alone and in combination. Abstract Local implantable drug delivery system (IDDS) can be used as an effective adjunctive therapy for solid tumor following thermal ablation for destroying the residual cancer cells and preventing the tumor recurrence. In this paper, we develop comprehensive mathematical pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) models for combination therapy using implantable drug delivery system following thermal ablation inside solid tumors with the help of molecular communication paradigm. In this model, doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded implant (act as a transmitter) is assumed to be inserted inside solid tumor (acts as a channel) after thermal ablation. Using this model, we can predict the extracellular and intracellular concentration of both free and bound drugs. Also, Impact of the anticancer drug on both cancer and normal cells is evaluated using a pharmacodynamic (PD) model that depends on both the spatiotemporal intracellular concentration as well as characteristics of anticancer drug and cells. Accuracy and validity of the proposed drug transport model is verified with published experimental data in the literature. The results show that this combination therapy results in high therapeutic efficacy with negligible toxicity effect on the normal tissue. The proposed model can help in optimize development of this combination treatment for solid tumors, particularly, the design parameters of the implant.

The basic problem of linear programming is to minimize (or maximize) a linear function of a finite number of variables constrained by a finite number of linear inequalities. From a mathematical point of view the subject may be regarded as being divided into two areas. One is primarily analytical and deals with certain questions of duality and consistency. The other is algorithmic and is concerned with computational questions and methods.

Kissing molars (KM) or rosette formation is a term that is used to describe impacted teeth contacting occlusal surfaces in a single follicular space and their roots pointing in opposite directions. In some cases kissing molars can be seen but occurrence of bilateral kissing molars is extremely rare phenomenon in the dental literature and the aetiology of this phenomenon is still unknown. In this paper we describe a case and review of the literature and discuss the management of this pathology. In our case, extremely rare form of impacted bilateral kissing molars was extracted surgically. The decision of extraction of asymptomatic kissing molars represents surgical dilemma. There may be many surgical complications; on the other hand in some cases surgical intervention is unavoidable. Few treatment options were described in the literature. This phenomenon can be sign of various medical conditions that may require further investigation. In this paper, our treatment option is in agreement with the literature suggesting the surgical removal of both teeth at either side of the mandible.

Summary: My comment is basically restricted to the situation in which less-able students find themselves and refers only to literature in German. From this point of view I am basically able to confirm Marsh's results. It must, however, be said that with less-able pupils the opposite effect can be found: Levels of self-esteem in these pupils are raised, at least temporarily, by separate instruction, academic performance however drops; combined instruction, on the other hand, leads to improved academic performance, while levels of self-esteem drop. Apparently, the positive self-image of less-able pupils who receive separate instruction does not bring about the potential enhancement of academic performance one might expect from high-ability pupils receiving separate instruction. To resolve the dilemma, it is proposed that individual progress in learning be accentuated, and that comparisons with others be dispensed with. This fosters a self-image that can in equal measure be realistic and optimistic.

The paper considers a point of view, based on the conception of the broad understanding of taxons. According to this point of view, rhyncholites of the subgenus Dentatobeccus and Microbeccus are accepted to be synonymous with the genus Rhynchoteuthis, and subgenus Romanovichella is considered to be synonymous with the genus Palaeoteuthis. The criteria, exercising influence on the different approaches to the classification of rhyncholites, have been analyzed (such as age and individual variability, sexual dimorphism, pathological and teratological features, degree of disintegration of material), underestimation of which can lead to inaccuracy. Divestment of the subgenuses Dentatobeccus, Microbeccus and Romanovichella, possessing very bright morphological characteristics, to have an independent status and denomination to their synonyms, has been noted to be unjustified. An artificial system (any suggested variant) with all its minuses is a single probable system for rhyncholites. The main criteria, minimizing its negative sides and proving the separation of the new taxon, is an available mass-scale material. The narrow understanding of the genus, used in sensible limits, has been underlined to simplify the problem of the passing the view about the genus to the other investigators and recognition of rhyncholites for the practical tasks.

ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHAn evaluation of the European Union and Turkish policies regarding the culture of living togetherThis article aims to determine the level of social acceptance towards Syrians within the context of cohabitation culture by evaluating EU’s legal structure and public service initiatives in order to prevent Syrian refugees from being excluded in member and candidate countries and by revealing government policies on acceptance of Syrians as “guest” by Turkish society and minimizing the exclusion risks of them. This article consists of two main parts, one of which is based on the effects of law and practices preventing refugees and asylum seekers from social exclusion, and the other is on the results of social perception on Syrians in Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul. At the end of 5-years taking in Syrian War, it is obvious that most of more than 3 million Syrian with unregistered ones in Turkey are “here to stay”. From this point of view, the primary scope of policies should be specified in order to remove side effects of refugee phenomenon seen as weighty matter by bottoming out the exclusion towards those people. To avoid possible large-scale conflicts or civil wars in the future, the struggle with exclusion phenomenon plays a crucial role regarding Turkey’s sociological situation and developing policies. In the meaning of forming a model for Turkey, a subtitle in this article is about public services for European-wide legal acquis and practices carried out since 1970s in order to prevent any exclusion from the society. On the other hand, other subtitles are about legal infrastructure and practices like Common European Asylum and Immigration Policies presented in 2005, and Law on Foreigners and International Protection introduced in 2013. In the last part of the article, the results of a field survey carried out in a district of Istanbul were used to analyze the exclusion towards refugees in Turkey. A face-to-face survey was randomly conducted with 200 settled refugees in Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul, and their perceptions towards Syrian people under temporary protection were evaluated. According to the results, the level of acceptance for Syrians living in this district seems relatively high. The fact that Turkish people living in the same district feel close to Syrian refugees culturally and religiously affect their perception in a positive way: however, it is strikingly seen and understood that local residents cop an attitude on the refugees’ becoming Turkish citizens.

This research deals with the development of  self concept of Hiroko as the main character in Namaku Hiroko by Nh. Dini and tries to identify how Hiroko is portrayed in the story, how she interacts with other characters and whether she is portrayed as a character dominated by ”I” element or  ”Me”  element seen  from sociological and cultural point of view. As a qualitative research in nature, the source of data in this research is the novel Namaku Hiroko (1967) and the data ara analyzed and presented deductively. The result of this analysis shows that in the novel, Hiroko as a fictional character is  portrayed as a girl whose personality  develops and changes drastically from ”Me”  to ”I”. When she was still in the village  l iving with her parents, she was portrayed as a obedient girl who was loyal to the parents, polite and acted in accordance with the social customs. In short, her personality was dominated by ”Me”  self concept. On the other hand, when she moved to the city (Kyoto), she was portrayed as a wild girl  no longer controlled by the social customs. She was  firm and determined totake decisions of  her won  for her future without considering what other people would say about her. She did not want to be treated as object. To put it in another way, her personality is more dominated by the ”I” self concept.

AbstractThe hegemony of colonialism in the culture of postcolonial society is the reason this studythen examines the colonial discourse in the novel Max Havellar (MH) in particular the impactit brings. The impact in question is the implied position of thought in the work. The resultsof the discussion show that, temporarily or permanently, MH voiced injustice in the colonialconditions regarding the oppression of the colonist against the colonized. However, the effort toname or represent the voice of the colonized has proven to imply a static ideological characterin the framework of colonialism (orientalism); ie Eropacentric point of view, in which “West” asself is superior, and “East” as the other is the inferior. In the context of postcolonialism, MH withits critical nature that seeks to “voice” the fate of the colonized natives, actually presents thestigma of strengthening coloniality itself hegemonicly. That is, “voicing” the fate of the pribumiis interpreted as a contradictory colonial flare, where the stigma of strengthening colonialityis more pronounced, which ultimately perpetuates the hegemony of colonialism. No longerdefending the colonized, but refining the workings of the colonial machinery.
