Aims: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of family support and participation in religious activities on the happiness of elderly muslims. Background: An increase in the number of older age people should be balanced with the increased quality of their life. The quality of life is influenced by internal factors such as self-quality, as well as external factors such as family support and religious activities. Objective: The objective of this research was to identify differences in the level of happiness of elderly muslims based on several factors: Work, health, salary, Islamic study, and marriage. Methods: Three hundred and ten elderly muslims (133 male, 177 female) participated in this study. Respondents were selected by simple random sampling of the elderly muslim population in seven districts in Central Java province, Indonesia. Results: The results showed 1) there was a correlation between family support and participation in religious activities and the happiness of elderly Muslims, 2) a healthy elderly person has a higher level of happiness than a sick elderly person; elderly who partake in Islamic studies one to two times a week have higher happiness than the elderly who do not; the retired elderly have the highest happiness compared to the elderly who still work and the elderly who do not (the lowest level of happiness), and there was no difference in the level of happiness in terms of salary and marriage. Conclusion: Family support and participation in religious activities are the main predictors of subjective well-being in the muslim elderly. In addition, there are other predictors such as health and participation in Islamic studies.

This paper investigates how intergeneration support influence rural elders’ subjective wellbeing in Vietnam, based on the data of the survey ‘Strengthening Social En gagement in Elderly Care in Changing Economic and Family Structure in Asia: Policy and Practical Dialogues between Local Communities in Vietnam and Japan’ conducted in 2017. The sample analysis of this paper is 307 respondents aged 60 and older in rural areas in the middle of Vietnam. Subjective wellbeing includes psychological well-being, self-rated health and life satisfaction. We find that all elders’ psychological wellbeing becomes more positive when they provide financial support for their children. Despite the economic difficulties and the prevalence of filial norm, the financial provision is not viewed as the burden to the older adults but helps them to confirm their position and power in the intergenerational relations. Nonetheless, receiving the spiritual care is more like to improve their psychological well-being and life satisfaction. The results suggest that the effect of the intergenerational support exchange should be taken into consideration when improving the quality of life for the elderly.

The Coronavirus has been introduced to Thailand for almost 2 years. Students were forced to take online classes in order to gain social distance. As it is well known, adolescents had the highest levels of satisfaction with friends and with self. Due to this occurrence, many students are at risk of mental challenges, likely due to unexpected life changes. The research aims to analyze subjective well-being (SWB) and to compare the data to other studies. The Flourishing Scale of 8 uniform questionnaires by Diener et. al. (2009) is used as a measurement to conduct the research as a major research tool in 507 Thai adolescent participants aged 12-19 years old. The level of psychological well-being and respondent's selfperceived success in important areas such as relationships, self-esteem, purpose, and optimism were quantified and performed. The Flourishing Scale scores in relevant research, enable the researchers to signify the contrast in the level of subjective well-being in Thai- adolescents according to the COVID-19 existence. As a result, the mean of the subjective wellbeing of the Flourishing Scale in Thai adolescence was 37.22 which is one of the lowest scores so far compared to the previous research investigated before the pandemic of the Coronavirus. It can be found that young adolescents are showing a decline in psychological resources and strength compared to the previous years which should be carefully inspected by adults and mental health-related professionals.

The present study explored the factorial structure of the combined item pool of the Life Satisfaction Index A (LSIA) [1] and the Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale (PGCMS) [2], two prominent instruments for assessing subjective well-being (SWB) and formulating its structure among the elderly. The sample consisted of 830 older Israeli adults, randomly divided into two groups for cross-validating purposes. The exploratory factor analysis yielded five substantial factors labeled Reconciled Aging, Unstrained Affect, General Contentment, Present Happiness, and Past Self-Fulfillment. The emerging structure was subjected to a confirmatory factor analysis by LISREL, indicating the fit of Liang's model [3, 4] that postulates a second-order factor of SWB. Correlations between the factor scales and other SWB indices provided evidence of convergent validity. The current formulation, which awaits further replication and validation, demonstrated that while each measure does contain unique components, they both contribute to a superordinate construct. The integrative approach employed here might facilitate the delineation of basic psychological themes as well as generate a broader perspective for the assessment of SWB in old age.

In this study, the objective was to test the influence of Yoga on diabetes patients by comparing the pre and post-test scores of subjective well-being. The study nature is pre and post experimental design. We used two groups including control group and the experimental group or group on which intervention is administered. The intervention in this case is the Yoga exercise. The sampling is based on convenience non-random sampling consisted of 30 patients who were diabetic patients. For experiment purpose, we divided the group into two equal parts including control group and the experiment group. The data is collected from survey method and target of the survey was diabetic type II patients. The duration of the study was 6 months. The results show that for experimental group, subjective wellbeing in the pre-test score was 153.73 which increased to 172.84 in post-test. In control group, the mean score of subjective-wellbeing in pre-test was 154.71 while in post-test, the score was 155.56. This result shows that in control group, the subjective wellbeing did not change much compare to the experiment group. The results support the notion that Yoga if administered can help diabetic patients in reducing the overall wellbeing including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.

Objectives: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)pandemic could be considered as an uncontrollable stressful public health crisis. The ease of transmission of COVID-19 and its potential to kill older adults could affect older adults' Subjective Wellbeing (SWB). This study aimed to assess SWB, and investigate the risk factors associated with declined SWB in the elderly during the COVID -19 outbreak. Methods & Materials: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 400 older adults (age: >60 years) were studied from April 4 to June 20, 2020, in Mashhad City, Iran. In this study, the multistage sampling method was used. In the first stage, 5 healthcare networks were considered as 5 clusters. Next, from each healthcare network, one healthcare center was randomly selected and considered as a cluster. Then, to reach the desired number of samples, 80 subjects were randomly selected per healthcare center and entered into the study. After obtaining permission for entrance to the healthcare centers from the Vice-Chancellor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, the researcher in charge of research referred to the healthcare centers; after obtaining permission from the center officials, the researcher collected the telephone numbers of the elderly from their records and completed the demographic and main questionnaire used by telephone for all study participants. The questionnaires were completed in June 2020. Each day, 20 elderly were examined; accordingly, except for the 10 days off in June 2020, the questionnaires were completed in the remaining 20 days of the month. The SWB of the elderly was assessed using the Persian version of The 5-item World Health Organization Well-Being Index (WHO-5). The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS using descriptive statistics, Chi-squared, and logistic regression tests at the significance level of 0.05. Results: The Mean±SD age of the study participants was 66.7±5.8 years. Of the total research participants, 224(56%) were females and 176(44%) were males. The mean±SD SWB scores in the explored elderly were 44.8±24.7. Furthermore, the SWB score in 285(71.2%) of the study sample was <50, indicating low an SWB. Multivariable logistic regressions were used to identify associations between the SWB and contextual variables. Loneliness (OR=8.28, 95%CI: 4.79-14.31), chronic illness (OR=23.77, 95%CI: 13.42-42.08), isolation (OR=8.03, 95%CI: 3.72-17.30) ,and physical inactivity (OR=7.37, 95%CI: 2.98-18.18) predicted lower SWB in the study subjects. Conclusion: The present research results indicated that the SWB of the examined elderly was undesirable concerning the COVID-19 crisis. Thus, to maintain and improve the SWB of older adults at times of major life events and threats, like the COVID-19 pandemic, the adoption of coping strategies should be considered.
