Background: A review of the literature was made concerning repressed memory phenomena and recovered memory therapy, and data from six psychiatric case histories were examined specifically with regard to repressed memory phenomena. The ramifications of repressed memory phenomena were examined regarding cultural origins and legal consequences, the role of the therapists in such cases, and the effects of repressed memory claims on the patients. Methods: A discussion of the literature regarding repressed memory phenomena and their cultural significance and legal applications precedes an examination of six cases involving repressed memory claims—three clinical psychiatric case histories and three forensic psychiatric case histories. Each case was evaluated with regard to its ultimate forensic resolution and/or its psychological impact on the patients and their families. Results: Repressed memory claims have gained cultural ascendancy during the last decade and have proliferated within the legal system, beginning with the late 1980s. Claims of repressed memory phenomena and methods of recovered memory therapy at the present time have shown little regard for substantiated proof or sound critical thinking in the pursuit of assigning blame for a wide array of adult mental illnesses and disorders. Conclusions: A method must be developed as a standard for repressed memory cases that will preserve the best interests of the patient and the integrity of the therapist's treatment plan. Recommendations are made for safeguarding the well-being of the patient and for defining the objective and credible role of the therapist in repressed memory cases.

The best interests of the child (BIC) should be of primary consideration in any situation involving children. Thus, BIC is commonly adopted as a principle, doctrine or test to weight decision-making regarding children. This study consists of an integrative literature review of English and Portuguese publications aimed at investigating how various studies address BIC definitions, characteristics and applications. The inclusion criteria were: 1) articles published between 2012 and 2017, and 2) those clearly addressing a BIC definition, characteristic and/or application. The chosen English databases were ASSIA, PsychARTICLES, PsychInfo, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar; the Portuguese databases were: LILACS, PePsic, Redalyc, Periódicos CAPES and Google Scholar. The main descriptor used was ‘best interests of the child’ which led to 1488 articles being found, and 14 selected. Brazilian articles have focused on the need to protect the child’s physical and psycho-socioemotional well-being, highlighting the child as a subject of rights, and maintaining child’s familial bonds. English articles have broadened the BIC perspective, highlighting the child’s idiosyncrasies, the role of the parent’s interests, and BIC as non-individualistic, flexible and complex. Other results show that BIC is largely related to the child’s development, which is divided into ‘material-physiological’ (basic needs and surviving) and ‘contextual’ (non-material and psychosocial and emotional needs) domains. Overall, BIC is a pluralistic, complex and multi-dimensional construct that depends on the child’s relational contexts.

Rajyoga Meditation is the science and art of harmonizing spiritual, mental and physical energy through connection with the ultimate source of spiritual energy (supreme soul) for enjoying ever healthy, ever wealthy and ever happy life. Psychotherapy / counseling is the process to treat people suffering from mental stress, anxiety, depression, psychosomatic diseases and other mental disorders and to maintain psychological well being. Many studies shows how mind is connected to health (physical, mental) i.e. stress and negative emotions lead to mental illness and psychosomatic illness and vice versa-meditation leads to mental, physical, total relaxation and healing leads to mental and physical health. This paper shows how Rajyoga meditation can be very effective or auxiliary tool to conventional therapy for various mental, physical illness and for mental well-being.

Section 28(2) of the Constitution states that a child's best interest is of paramount importance in every matter concerning the child.  Section 9 further provides that every person is considered equal before the law and has the right to equal protection and benefit of the law. Several grounds are listed relating to the unfair discrimination of persons, including their sexual orientation. The concept of care is incorporated in the Children's Act, and it entails a comprehensive description of parents' daily life regarding children and the powers and duties expected to ensure the general protection, well-being and best interests of the child. The aim of this contribution is to discuss the sexual orientation of a parent as a factor when considering care and the extent to which courts may give consideration to such a factor. The article will also address the question of whether or not the role of a parent's sexual orientation in determining the best interests of the child has changed since the common law concept of custody was replaced by the concept of care in the Children's Act. In this article, care and the best interests of the child will be discussed first. International law will be considered thereafter, followed by a discussion on the approach of our courts, pre- and post-1994, in order to come to a conclusion and make recommendations.

Introduction: Beyond infection, the COVID-19 pandemic has also affected individuals through associated mental illnesses like anxiety and stress and has caused a collateral damage. Ayurveda has described 3 main factors which are responsible for the occurrence of diseases, one of them is Prajnaparadha, which is stated as the main cause for all the mental illness. The threefold treatment principles of Daivavyapashraya, Yuktivyapashraya and Satvavajaya targeting the Ahara, Achara and Chesta is an ideal plan to deal with stress built up in this pandemic. Materials and methods: The Ayurvedic classical textbooks and the peer reviewed articles focusing mental health researches were reviewed. This plan involves the implementation of Daivavyapashraya, Yuktivyapashaya and Satvavajaya based on the exposure and exhibition of symptoms of COVID-19. Daivavyapashraya Chikitsa is employed by Vishnusahasranama recitation/listening, Yuktivyapashraya Chikitsa is employed by the various drugs like Bramhi, Shankapushpi, Ashwagandha etc. and formulations which have psycho-neuro-immune-response, Satvavajaya Chikitsa by the process of counseling. Results and Discussion: The interdependent nature of immunity and psychological state is already well established and it decides the outcome of disorders. An immune response can be largely affected by mental well-being and mental illness can negatively affect its outcome. Conclusion: The three fold treatment plan centering the pshycho-neuro-immune action is a complete health promotive, preventive and curative plan and will certainly help in the revival of mental health in the times and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

This project focused on the connection between a community and its schools, and the role that schools play in rural community vitality. It investigated both community members and former student experience with small schools in one rural area of Ontario, Canada. Community responses indicate that rural schools play a considerable role in the well-being of community members; former student responses indicate similar themes. Results indicated a strong link between local schools and components of the Canadian Index of Well-being. Discussion focuses on the gap between the role of schools in rural communities and the provincial policies on school closures, and how the findings suggest that new approaches to the challenges of small rural schools are in the best interests of both students and communities.

The role of a slaughterhouse worker (SHW) involves the authorized killing of living beings, yet there is limited understanding of the consequences this behavior has on their well-being. The purpose of this systematic review is to collate and evaluate the current literature on the psychological impact of slaughterhouse employment. Fourteen studies met the specific a priori inclusion criteria. The findings from this review were demarcated by the focus of studies: (1) the prevalence of mental health disorders, (2) the types of coping mechanisms used, and (3) the link between slaughterhouse employment and crime perpetration. It was found that SHWs have a higher prevalence rate of mental health issues, in particular depression and anxiety, in addition to violence-supportive attitudes. Furthermore, the workers employ a variety of both adaptive and maladaptive strategies to cope with the workplace environment and associated stressors. Finally, there is some evidence that slaughterhouse work is associated with increased crime levels. The research reviewed has shown a link between slaughterhouse work and antisocial behavior generally and sexual offending specifically. There was no support for such an association with violent crimes, however. Based on existing research, we suggest future directions for research (i.e., applying more methodological rigor) but highlight key findings for practitioners and policymakers that warrant attention.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a serious psychological impact on society, including teenagers. Teenagers who become the next generation and hope of the nation experience psychological problems such as anxiety, depression, stress which of course will affect their psychological well-being. Psychological well-being is a situation in which a person experiences a positive self-assessment, has meaning, purpose and autonomy in life. So concern for youth is needed to maintain the continuity of the nation's future. To build the psychological well-being of teenagers, it is necessary to pay attention to the aspect of religiosity. This study aims to discuss the role of religiosity in improving the psychological well-being of adolescents. Religiosity is a condition, understanding and obedience of a person in believing in a religion that is manifested in the appreciation of values so as to encourage someone to behave according to religious teachings in everyday life. This condition of religiosity is explored through the dimensions of ideology, ritual, appreciation, intellectual, and experience. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of religiosity on the psychological well-being of adolescents during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study uses quantitative methods with measuring tools of religiosity and psychological well-being. From the data processing, it was found that there was a significant positive relationship between religiosity and psychological well-being (r = .635, p = .000, p < .001). The higher the religiosity, the higher the psychological well-being, and vice versa, the lower the religiosity, the lower the psychological well-being. Through the regression test of religiosity on psychological well-being, the results obtained were r2 = .403, p = .000, p < .001. This means that there is a contribution of religiosity to psychological well-being of 40.3%, and there are other factors of 59.7% that affect psychological well-being.The results of this study contribute to research in the psychology of religion and clinical psychology, especially in an effort to increase the role of religiosity in promoting psychological well-being Pandemi Covid-19 telah membawa dampak psikologis yang cukup serius bagi masyarakat termasuk kaum remaja.

The exponential rise in transgender self-identification invites consideration of what constitutes an ethical response to transgender individuals’ claims about how best to promote their well-being. In this paper, we argue that ‘accepting’ a claim to medical transitioning in order to promote well-being would be in the person’s best interests iff at the point of request the individual is correct in their self-diagnosis as transgender (i.e., the distress felt to reside in the body does not result from another psychological and/or societal problem) such that the medical interventions they are seeking will help them to realise their preferences. If we cannot assume this—and we suggest that we have reasonable grounds to question an unqualified acceptance in some cases—then ‘acceptance’ potentially works against best interests. We propose a distinction between ‘acceptance’ and respectful, in-depth exploration of an individual’s claims about what promotes their well-being. We discuss the ethical relevance of the unconscious mind to considerations of autonomy and consent in working with transgender individuals. An inquisitive stance, we suggest, supports autonomous choice about how to realise an embodied form that sustains well-being by allowing the individual to consider both conscious and unconscious factors shaping wishes and values, hence choices.

Abstract. Establishing new social relationships is important for mastering developmental transitions in young adulthood. In a 2-year longitudinal study with four measurement occasions (T1: n = 245, T2: n = 96, T3: n = 103, T4: n = 85), we investigated the role of social motives in college students’ mastery of the transition of moving out of the parental home, using loneliness as an indicator of poor adjustment to the transition. Students with strong social approach motivation reported stable and low levels of loneliness. In contrast, students with strong social avoidance motivation reported high levels of loneliness. However, this effect dissipated relatively quickly as most of the young adults adapted to the transition over a period of several weeks. The present study also provides evidence for an interaction between social approach and social avoidance motives: Social approach motives buffered the negative effect on social well-being of social avoidance motives. These results illustrate the importance of social approach and social avoidance motives and their interplay during developmental transitions.

Abstract. Background: Little is known about the role of resilience in the likelihood of suicidal ideation (SI) over time. Aims: We examined the association between resilience and SI in a young-adult cohort over 4 years. Our objectives were to determine whether resilience was associated with SI at follow-up or, conversely, whether SI was associated with lowered resilience at follow-up. Method: Participants were selected from the Personality and Total Health (PATH) Through Life Project from Canberra and Queanbeyan, Australia, aged 28–32 years at the first time point and 32–36 at the second. Multinomial, linear, and binary regression analyses explored the association between resilience and SI over two time points. Models were adjusted for suicidality risk factors. Results: While unadjusted analyses identified associations between resilience and SI, these effects were fully explained by the inclusion of other suicidality risk factors. Conclusion: Despite strong cross-sectional associations, resilience and SI appear to be unrelated in a longitudinal context, once risk/resilience factors are controlled for. As independent indicators of psychological well-being, suicidality and resilience are essential if current status is to be captured. However, the addition of other factors (e.g., support, mastery) makes this association tenuous. Consequently, resilience per se may not be protective of SI.
