Special libraries are essential information and documentation centres for university teachers and researchers due to the quality and richness of their collections. In Spain, it is estimated that there are 2456 special libraries, although many are unknown either generally or among information professionals. These include museum libraries, which are important centres with valuable collections of bibliographic heritage for the area of Humanities and Social Sciences. The aim of this research is to gain an understanding of the real state of these information units and promote the social value of museum libraries in Spain. To do this, a survey was sent to the libraries of state-owned and -managed museums under the General Directorate of Fine Arts and Cultural Property (Ministry of Culture and Sports) of the Government of Spain. This general objective will be accompanied by a review of the scientific literature on various aspects of museum libraries at national and international level. After addressing the research methodology, the results obtained will be discussed and will include the following topics: collection management, library services and staff, economic and technological resources and finally, library management. Conclusions include recommendations for museum librarians and reveal that institutional cooperation is a strategic issue to improve both museum libraries visibility and their social recognition as cultural and research centre.

Yorozu Tetsugorô was a Yôga [Western-style] painter associated with the avant-garde movement during the Taishô period (1912–1926). His foray into art began when he started studying Ôshita Tôjirô’s A Guide to Watercolors [大下藤次郎]. Prior to enrolling at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in Western-style painting, he attended meetings and study sessions at the Hakubakai [White Horse Society; 白馬会] (1896–1911). In 1907, he entered the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and graduated in 1912. A Nude Beauty (1912), his graduating work, garnered significant critical attention. The work is considered the pioneering work of Japanese Fauvism, and is now designated an Important Cultural Property in Japan. Yorozu’s works from this period demonstrate the influence of both Fauvism and Cubism upon his craft. His landscapes and portraits were well received at the Nikakai [Second Section Association] (1914–present), which showcased younger and more avant-garde artists’ works. Yorozu left Tokyo following complications with his health, but continued to exhibit at the Nikaten when possible. Although he was unsuccessful at his attempts to exhibit at the government-sponsored Teiten, Yorozu continued artistic explorations in Nanga [literati painting] and Nihonga [Japanese-style painting]. He passed away in 1927, and is often considered the pioneering artist of Japanese Cubism and Fauvism.

During the last six years, exceptionally favourable external conditions for an upsurge of the domestic economy have been developed. However, they failed to result in an economic boom, which has been estimated by the authors as quite possible. One of the reasons for this - deterioration of the investment climate in the country that caused a decline of business activities and money demand decrease thus leading to reduction of potential GDP growth rate. The accumulated modernisation problems cannot be resolved without increasing the economic dynamics. But this requires an economic policy able to facilitate predictability of Russian business operational environment, to protect it legally, to secure a system of partnership relations with the government and to respect the interests of the main participants in the state level decision-making process concerning business undertakings and investment climate.

A Pseudomonas sp. 102 strain, which is highly resistant to toxic effects of cadmium and has plant growth-promoting activity, can significantly increase growth parameters and biomass of tomato plants, including those observed under toxic effects of cadmium. The greatest positive effect was observed in plants transformed with the bacterial adhesin gene rapA1, the product of which is important for colonization of plant roots by bacteria. It was also shown that shoots of transgenic tomato plants accumulated the greatest amount of cadmium during inoculation with Pseudomonas sp. 102. The ability to extract high concentrations of cadmium and accumulate a large biomass under stress opens up prospects for the further use of associative interactions between tomato and Pseudomonas for phytoremediation. phytoremediation, cadmium, tomato, Pseudomonas, inoculation, agglutinins, This study was carried out using the equipment of the Biomika Centre for Collective Use of the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics (Ufa Federal Research Centre, Russian Academy of Sciences) as part of the government task (project no. Abstract Background Since the outbreak of COVID-19; social distancing and recognized effective precautions were recommended by various governments to fight the viral spread. Our aim was to assess the inpatient knowledge and compliance with the government guidelines during their hospital stay and at their discharge in two different NHS hospitals. Method The study took place in two hospitals: Berrywood hospital, UK and Countess of Chester hospital, UK. We invited inpatients to answer an anonymized questionnaire which was designed to include the contemporary government guidelines. We excluded patients with cognitive impairment and those who were not expected to be discharged within days. Results Out of 209 patients, 50% were male. Patients showed good awareness of the main symptoms of the virus (90%). However, A significant number of patients were not fully aware of the recommended precautions to minimize viral spread (28%) and the method of spread (43%). About 41% did not know the recommended safe distance. Conclusions Despite being aware of the main symptoms of COVID-19, a significant number of patients lack essential information needed to minimize the spread of the virus in the society and hospital. We recommend providing patients with information leaflets and direct advice on admission and discharge.

Purpose This study aims to address the absence of a thorough understanding of commitment in tourism public-private partnerships (PPP) by exploring antecedents of PPP commitment and their underpinning relationships in regard to the destination management system (DMS). Design/methodology/approach An empirical investigation of the case of the Egyptian DMS, a PPP which was forsaken by the government partner and which subsequently failed. Qualitative and quantitative approaches are used for a comprehensive overview of the researched phenomena pertaining to external and internal stakeholders. Findings The results indicated that stakeholder management, relational capital, perceived benefits and stakeholder capabilities could influence intentions to commit to a tourism PPP project. Also, the latter three factors were found to mediate the relationship between stakeholder management and long-term PPP commitment. The results also shed light on the important aspects of non-contractual, interpersonal relationships between internal and external PPP stakeholders. Originality/value This research pioneers inquiries on the commitment of Tourism PPP/DMS projects and its possible drivers in a non-Western context. Also, this study contributes to knowledge by exploring the relationship within and between internal (partners) and external (e.g. local service providers) stakeholder groups and provided evidence on the crucial role of both on long-term PPP commitment and success. The current study has a few significant contributions to the PPP literature regarding the commitment and success of PPP in the complicated environments in which tourism PPP projects are operated. Moreover, this study offers essential information and practices for improving partner relationships with external stakeholders.

In fall 2008, General Motors and Chrysler were both on the brink of bankruptcy, and Ford was not far behind. As the government stepped in and restructuring began, GM and Chrysler announced their plan to terminate about 2,200 dealerships. In this paper, we first provide an overview of franchising in car distribution, how it came about, and the legal framework within which it functions. States earn about 20 percent of all state sales taxes from auto dealers. As a result, new car dealerships, and especially local or state car dealership associations, have been able to exert influence over local legislatures. This has led to a set of state laws that almost guarantee dealership profitability and survival—albeit at the expense of manufacturer profits. Available evidence and theory suggests that as a result of these laws, distribution costs and retail prices are higher than they otherwise would be; and this is particularly true for Detroit's Big Three car manufacturers—which is likely a factor contributing to their losses in market share vis-à-vis other manufacturers. After discussing the evidence on the effects of the car franchise laws on dealer profit and car prices, we turn to the interaction of the franchise laws and manufacturers' response to the auto crisis. Last, we consider what car distribution might be like if there were no constraints on organization. We conclude that although the state-level franchise laws came about for a reason, the current crisis perhaps provides an opportunity to reconsider the kind of regulatory framework that would best serve consumers, rather than carmakers or car dealers.

An independent CEO’s discipline is greatly influenced by the way a corporate is managed, hence improving the firm’s value in those corporate that are developing and the ones that have already developed. Additionally, the shareholders’ interest can as well be safeguarded by the CEO and the board through creation of more safeguard guidelines. Macro-economic and micro-economic level corporate experiences significant implication from the governance, whereby corporate governance that is poor may lead to corporations’ failure, for instance Worldcom and Enron experienced this type of failure. This paper scrutinizes the connection between dual and separated Chairs-CEOs structures and implications in the performance of corporate. The interest of CEO Duality emanates from the idea that CEO duality would make a difference to the performance of a firm and corporate governance . There exists controversy in the manner which the company is affected by the CEO duality. The most commonly used instruments in the implementation of corporate governance include independent directors, board size, board directors, chief executive officer, political administration, judiciary, regulatory authority and the government itself. Corporate governance also gives a specific structure via which objectives of the firm are set. Corporate governance also provides the means of accomplishing these objectives and also how to monitor the firm’s performance. Corporate success and board performance does not solely depend on the chief executive’s position or the position held by the chief. It does matter whether these two positions are held by one or two people. This Lack of adequate evidence in the scientific research in order to support the argument concerning separate or combined roles of a CEO, result in management dilemma. A theory supporting joint positions, is that integrating the positions of CEO and Chair minimizes the cost of transferring information which should take place if different persons hold the position of CEO and Chair. Since the transfer of information might be expensive, imperfect or untimely, having essential information reside in one joint CEO and Chair might enhance the individual’s ability to carry out the responsibilities of management. In the other side a theory that supporting of split CEO and Chair positions propose that the board also carry out its supervisory duty better when the Chair is a non-executive individual. The paper aims at introducing and giving a panoramic analysis of the relevant perceptions of management and corporate governance like the CEO Duality and the implications it has in the performance of corporate. Should a CEO take action simultaneously as the Corporate Board Chairman? Would the CEO Duality hamper or improve the performance of a corporate?
