In December 2019, Covid-19 virus spread from Wuhan, China, to the rest of the world and had profound impact on politics, economy, society, and culture as well as significant effect on libraries and information utilization. This study aimed to propose future directions for library service by analyzing information use behavior of researchers and deriving the requirements through a survey method. As a result, it was initially identified that the data types and search paths used by researchers have changed to using electronic or online resources. Second, it was difficult to access and acquire certain data only available offline along with difficulty in searching and selecting data suitable for the purpose of research, difficulty in grasping the material, and technical problems such as usage method, search, and information use environment were identified. Third, after Covid-19, there has been a change in demand for services people need from libraries. Including the expansion of budget support for securing digital content, free provision of e-books and e-journals for a limited time by publishers, free provision of paid educational content for a certain period, and temporary copyright agreement for works, libraries were required to make efforts to secure information resources available online in response to Covid-19.

BACKGROUND A new generation of user-centric information systems is emerging in health care as patient health record (PHR) systems. These systems create a platform supporting the new vision of health services that empowers patients and enables patient-provider communication, with the goal of improving health outcomes and reducing costs. This evolution has generated new sets of data and capabilities, providing opportunities and challenges at the user, system, and industry levels. OBJECTIVE The objective of our study was to assess PHR data types and functionalities through a review of the literature to inform the health care informatics community, and to provide recommendations for PHR design, research, and practice. METHODS We conducted a review of the literature to assess PHR data types and functionalities. We searched PubMed, Embase, and MEDLINE databases from 1966 to 2015 for studies of PHRs, resulting in 1822 articles, from which we selected a total of 106 articles for a detailed review of PHR data content. RESULTS We present several key findings related to the scope and functionalities in PHR systems. We also present a functional taxonomy and chronological analysis of PHR data types and functionalities, to improve understanding and provide insights for future directions. Functional taxonomy analysis of the extracted data revealed the presence of new PHR data sources such as tracking devices and data types such as time-series data. Chronological data analysis showed an evolution of PHR system functionalities over time, from simple data access to data modification and, more recently, automated assessment, prediction, and recommendation. CONCLUSIONS Efforts are needed to improve (1) PHR data quality through patient-centered user interface design and standardized patient-generated data guidelines, (2) data integrity through consolidation of various types and sources, (3) PHR functionality through application of new data analytics methods, and (4) metrics to evaluate clinical outcomes associated with automated PHR system use, and costs associated with PHR data storage and analytics.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the impact of analytical customer relationship management (CRM) on salesperson information use behavior. Design/methodology/approach To achieve the aim of this paper, a vignette experiment was undertaken. The data used for the final analysis included 125 professional salespeople across multiple industries. Findings This paper focuses on the personal use of competitive intelligence. The authors find that to maximize the effectiveness of using competitive intelligence, the salesperson must become adept at both choosing the correct pa`rtners to trust and properly valuing information. Properly valuing information can be accomplished through the use of analytical CRM. Practical implications The managerial implications of this paper are straightforward yet important. CRM providers have improved the tools available to salespeople (e.g., heat maps) and have partnered with other large scale providers of customer and market information (e.g., global marketing research firms) to provide a analytical tool that is user friendly to salespeople. Yet, many firms still use simplified CRM platforms, which do little more for the salesperson than offer an opportunity to document notes. Sales firms should move toward this analytical CRM system because it improves the salesperson’s ability to value information and increases the salesperson’s ability to use intelligence to link products to buyer needs. Originality/value This paper contributes to theory through confirming the importance of analytical CRM on salesperson’s information use behavior by using a motivation, opportunity and ability framework. Additionally, a methodological contribution was made through the development of an information value scale.

Abstract Following a pilot, we refined an oral health carepartner intervention for individuals with mild dementia (IMD). In this intervention, we use behavior change techniques (BCTs) to foster changes by carepartners including using new oral-care techniques and developing skills for using cueing and communications approaches to support behavior changes by IMD (duration and frequency of toothbrushing and oral-hygiene skills); thus, improving plaque and gingival indices. We describe our approach to refining the intervention manual including a) completing the self-paced BCT taxonomy course, b) developing a coding schema, c) coding the original manual for evidence of BCTs, and d) refining the manual to improve use of BCTS in the refined intervention. Our results detail how BCTs can be applied to refine and improve interventions. This research demonstrates the value in using BCTs for interventions to address how carepartners and IMD can collaborate to improve oral hygiene care.

Problems attributed to uncertainty and a lack of visibility about others’ activities and behaviors have led designers of multi-user interfaces to develop so-called awareness mechanisms (Dourish & Bellotti, 1992). The importance of maintaining awareness in the virtual environment has been outlined in many studies in CSCW and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) research areas. According to Gutwin, Greenberg and Roseman (1996), awareness reduces the effort needed to coordinate tasks and resources by providing a context in which to interpret utterances and to anticipate others’ actions. For many years, a significant effort was devoted to explore how computer-based technologies might facilitate some kinds of awareness among and between interdependent actors. These studies tried to solve technical problems related to providing awareness through multi-user interfaces. Unfortunately, however, the expected benefits from these technologies never materialized (Schmidt, 2002). This article focuses on the design of visualization techniques for collective awareness. It proposes a design approach of visualization techniques centered on the semantic of collective awareness and human characteristics (ergonomic design). The article is organized as follows: First, we present users’ needs when interacting through multi-user interfaces. Second, we give an overview of the notion of awareness by reviewing its categories. Third, we present an ergonomic design approach of awareness visualization techniques. We illustrate our approach with examples of techniques from literature and show how these techniques support collective awareness. Finally, we conclude with some future directions.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is concerned with the ownership of digital information and access to that information. Organizations and individuals increasingly seek to prevent unauthorized or inadvertent release of owned, proprietary, or sensitive information. A variety of technologies are available to prevent the piracy and verify the true owners of digital content, unfortunately specifics of these technologies are often proprietary. Content can be protected by a variety of encryption techniques for the storage and transmission of digital information yet; these same techniques can limit access and usability of digital content. This chapter discusses the general state of digital security and technologies in use followed by a discussion of future directions for digital security research and practice.
