Launched two and a half years ago, the model of Islamic banking adopted by Morocco consists of five banks and three windows. This paper aims to present an exploratory case study of the performance of the eight actors of Morocco participative banking. The study reveals an increase of Murabaha funding and deposits while the total net profit remains negative (MAD -420 million) mainly due to the start-up costs absorbing an enormous amount of resources. Presented in a SWOT Analysis, the study’s results confirm that the sector is facing many difficulties and gaps that negatively affect the business especially the incomplete participative financial ecosystem. Then, the paper presents a benchmark study of Turkey’s participation in banking. Findings show that the financial ecosystem in Turkey is much more developed compared to Morocco. Consequently, this situation favored the rise of the five operational participation banks whose asset growth rate reached 99%, between 2014 and 2018, and recorded positive net profits which exceeded TL 2 billion. Nevertheless, both Morocco and Turkey participation banks are still too young and can make headway only if the regulators and the operators properly address the challenges which hamper their development. After the dissolution of the first national airline in 2002, the Guinean government attempted to set up Guinea Airlines, but it was unsuccessful. This study aims to analyze the current state of air transport in Guinea and to conduct a diagnostic analysis for the revival of the national airline. The objective is to explore the causes of the failures of various attempts to revive the national company. The findings show that air transport has a positive spillover externality to economic long-run growth and the revival of Guinea Airlines could be a major asset to boost the country’s economic growth.

This paper is a diachronic study which traces significant factors that have led to the current state of affairs. The final section recommends a plan of action. It is hoped that this case study will address the concerns that many other cultures are facing.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate and present the way in which a food start-up can develop business model innovations, taking into account the importance of social and environmental issues. Design/methodology/approach The authors studied an Italian pizzeria, implementing the illustrative single-case study methodology, to answer the research question: “how can food start-ups develop a sustainable business model innovation?” Findings The study highlights sustainable elements for each component of the business model configuration provided by Osterwalder to provide a deeper view of the sustainable business model concept. Originality/value The study contributes to the extant research introducing the concept of sustainable innovation within the business model literature. It concludes that, within the food industry, especially for start-ups, the development of sustainable business model innovation is particularly important because the industry is itself linked with nature and human respect. Moreover, it suggests a methodological analysis of the business model configuration, which will help to develop clearer and more accurate and influential research.

The article deals with editorial and political commentary as journalistic genres, reveals their typological features, similarities and differences. The author gives reasons for saving these genres and considering them as those belonging to the group of analytical genres, since their basis is the logical analysis of real events, phenomena or facts. The author studies the historical transformation of editorial and political commentary in the pre-revolutionary, Soviet and post-Soviet periods, and determines the causes of the changes. The author infers that currently, editorial is best developing in the context of columnism, whereas political commentary is most successful in the Internet. This foregrounds the study of both current state and historical conditions for the development of these genres, especially in Siberian regional press at the establishment stage in the early XX century. The analysis of papers issued consecutively from 1906 to 1917 in Minusinsk, the central town of Yenisei province, shows the main trends in the change of the content of these types of newspaper text. An editorial containing comments on political issues was an indicator of particular quality of the newspaper, since the readers were provided with the editors or leading journalists reasoned point of view on the events and phenomena of those days. The choice of the topic and the content of the coverage were determines by the censorship and historical conditions, availability of information sources and the writers experience. Despite similarities in the topic and content, editorial and political commentary had different headlines and references to the author. Moreover, in the Bolshevists press, which became legalized in the time of the February Revolution, editorial was used as a means of agitation, and thus set up the tradition for the Soviet press.

The Indian life science industry broadly comprises manufacturers and service providers. The manpower for both these sectors has to come through the institutes of higher education, mainly the universities. In order to create newer jobs, encouraging start-up enterprises is very much essential. The present day university life science education prepares graduates to work in a pre-set and defined industrial or academic set up. Planned and informed guidance, mentoring, and hand-holding are required for graduate students to inculcate the passion for an enterprise. During their coursework, igniting a flame of entrepreneurship, motivating them to become their own boss and creating conducive environment to establish a business could significantly contribute to the socio-economic growth of a society. The well-coordinated efforts of industry heads, university professors, corporate associations, and governmental departments could bring about radical and far-reaching changes in setting-up industries by fresh bio-graduates. This case study throws light on how the existing system can modify its course work to achieve this goal and how an industry-academia-government alliance can play a significant role towards this initiative on entrepreneurship.
