Abstract Abstract 3207 Introduction and Aim: Iron is an essential metal in the body, but its overload causes various organ damages through free radical productions. When the balance of iron metabolism is collapsesed by a prolonged transfusion and iron medication etc, transferrin (Tf) will be saturated and non-Tf bound iron (NTBI) will appear in the serum. It has been reported that NTBI relates to oxidant stress and cellular damages. Concerning the measurement of NTBI in blood, there are several problems including the expensive consumables and the long time to measure. Moreover, the method of measuring NTBI was extremely complicated, so that very limited institutions can use this at the present. Among several methods, we focused on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-based NTBI assay. The principle of measurement of HPLC method is bases on Gosriwatana I et al. (Anal Biochem, 1999); NTBI in serum was initially chelated by NTA and iron was transferred to another chelator, CP22, which had chromogenic effect when bound to iron. At last, the level of iron was quantitated by HPLC system. We improved the sensitivity of this method and reported by extreme reducing background iron contamination (Sasaki K et al. Mol Med Report, 2011). However, HPLC method still needs some improvement, because this method requires the samples and takes long time to measure, so that the many sample handling is difficult. Therefore, the novel measuring system within automated analyzer equipped in many hospitals is desired. From such a background, we aimed to develop the novel NTBI measuring reagent corresponding to the automatic analyzer by modifying the HPLC method. Methods: We developed the novel NTBI measuring system using NTA and Nitroso-xxxx (PSAP) as the chromogen instead of CP22. This system does not need any pre-treatment of serum samples. Then, we examined the basic performance of the novel NTBI reagent, and compared to HPLC method. Data analyses were performed using HITACHI 7700 auto analyzer. The following points were examined: (1) reproducibility (N=20), (2) comparison between the linearity of actual measured data and that of theoretically calculated data, (3) detection limit, (4) relation between the Tf saturations and NTBI values, (5) comparison of the value measured by the HPLC method and the value measured using novel NTBI measuring system. Result and Conclusion: Reproducibility was satisfactory (NTBI levels of pooled serum were 0.491±0.190μM). And measured values using this novel system showed a dose-dependent curve under the iron concentrations between 0 to 5μM. The detection limit was found to be 0.5μM using ±2.6SD at zero concentrations and was also able to detect the NTBI in blood in healthy person serum. In serum, when Tf saturation was approaching to 100%, NTBI turns into high values. When NTBI values of the serum obtained from the patients with written informed consent were measured, positive correlation (R2=0.935) was observed between the Tf saturation and NTBI. Moreover, the data obtained by HPLC method correlate positively with those determined by novel measuring system (R2=0.876). These should indicate that our novel measuring system for NTBI possess comparable efficiency compared with the HPLC method. Moreover, our new method should have quite attractive advantages: (A) that can measured approximately 800 samples in 1 hour, (B) that does not need any pre-treatment of sample serum, and (C) that does not need any expensive consumables, meaning excellent cost-benefit. Therefore our new method for the NTBI measuring using automatic analyzer must be useful and powerful for the research to elucidate the clinical importance of NTBI in various diseases in the near future. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

The stability of breast plays an important role in the comfort of women’s movement. Women with sagging breasts are faced with more displacement due to the weakened breast internal support. The purpose of this study is to measure the dynamic 3D displacement of sagging breasts. Because of the sagging breast particularity, it is difficult to obtain all the data accurately by the traditional photoelectric capturing system. In this paper, multiple 3-Axes accelerometer sensors are used to measure the acceleration value of the specific points. Besides, the sensors integrated with 3-axes gyroscope which can collect the gyro data at the same time. The obtained accelerometer and gyroscope data will be transferred to the body coordinate from the sensor measuring coordinate. MATLAB will be used to analyze the collected data, and 2D and 3D point Cloud will be carried out. The maximum amplitude and whole picture of trajectory will be calculated, and the dynamic moving results of breast will have a general comparison of different points. The whole picture of sagging breast moving status can help bra designers improve wearing comfortable sensation, and the study can offer a new method for reference.

ENGLISH ABSTRACTReligion and identity reflections in literature of immigrant: Religion and Tradition in Fakir Baykurt’s novel Yarım EkmekThe immigration fact which has nearly half century in Germany have brought a significant literal accumulation (Migrantenliteratur) in its wake. This literal accumulation, which is named as several denominations, has a feature including different colours in itself. One of the most important source snourishing literature is society. Societal structure and problems that the writer lives inside, directly or indirectly reflect on his/her compositions. In this context, the matter of religion and tradition by way of the issue and fictious characters in the novel of Fakir Baykurt who went to Germany in her 50’s and lived in there till his death and who is a considerable name in Turkish literature with his several literal and intellectual workings; “Yarım Ekmek” which is the third novel of Duisburg Trilogy with “Koca Ren” and “Yüksek Fırınlar” are discussed sociologically in the study. The political and ideological past of the socialist realist lined writer in Turkey where he spent his life for a long time, manifest itself on the speech and fictious characters of novel. In the novel, themes of new Turks’ conflict, cultural shock, being in the middle, bi culturalism in their new cultural nature in Duisburg which is the city they live in. The writer not only deals with Turks in Germany but also personal and social subjects via comparing them to Turkey and even other countries. In the study, religious and traditional elements analyzed sociologically. Besides the speciality of being a migration novel in general, there are a lot of religious, political and ideological interpretations and discussions in the novel. These datum in the novel are examinated in the context of belief, ritual, politics and social categorisation.

This article explores the diversity of British literary responses to Diaghilev's project, emphasising the way in which the subject matter and methodologies of Diaghilev's modernism were sometimes unexpectedly echoed in expressions of contemporary British writing. These discussions emerge both in writing about Diaghilev's work, and, more discretely, when references to the Russian Ballet find their way into the creative writing of the period, serving to anchor the texts in a particular cultural milieu or to suggest contemporary aesthetic problems in the domain of literary aesthetics developing in the period. Figures from disparate fields, including literature, music and the visual arts, brought to their criticism of the Ballets Russes their individual perspectives on its aesthetics, helping to consolidate the sense of its importance in contributing to the inter-disciplinary flavour of modernism across the arts. In the field of literature, not only did British writers evaluate the Ballets Russes in terms of their own poetics, their relationship to experimentation in the novel and in drama, they developed an increasing sense of the company's place in dance history, its choreographic innovations offering material for wider discussions, opening up the potential for literary modernism's interest in impersonality and in the ‘unsayable’, discussions of the body, primitivism and gender.

The article represents a retrospective review of long time research of genesis and development of the Central beach in the City of Varna which makes possible a forecast of its further development. Both natural and anthropogenic impact on the beach evolution is taken into consideration. It is ascertained that construction of coastal protection structures at the northern part of the beach in 80’s resulted in cessation of natural beach area growth. The strengthen of a breakwater in the main port and illegal building also contributed to considerable coast recession and beach volume reducing. Because of this a recreational potential of the Central beach is gradually decreasing. New method named “cross-shore sediment bypassing” is suggested to reduce the negative trend.

: Skin cancer, among the various kinds of cancers, is a type that emerges from skin due to the growth of abnormal cells. These cells are capable of spreading and invading the other parts of the body. The occurrence of non-melanoma and melanoma, which are the major types of skin cancers, has increased over the past decades. Exposure to ultraviolet radiations (UV) is the main associative cause of skin cancer. UV exposure can inactivate tumor suppressor genes while activating various oncogenes. The conventional techniques like surgical removal, chemotherapy and radiation therapy lack the potential for targeting cancer cells and harm the normal cells. However, the novel therapeutics show promising improvements in the effectiveness of treatment, survival rates and better quality of life for patients. Different methodologies are involved in the skin cancer therapeutics for delivering the active ingredients to the target sites. Nano carriers are very efficient as they have the ability to improve the stability of drugs and further enhance their penetration into the tumor cells. The recent developments and research in nanotechnology have entitled several targeting and therapeutic agents to be incorporated into nanoparticles for an enhancive treatment of skin cancer. To protect the research works in the field of nanolipoidal systems various patents have been introduced. Some of the patents acknowledge responsive liposomes for specific targeting, nanocarriers for the delivery or co-delivery of chemotherapeutics, nucleic acids as well as photosensitizers. Further recent patents on the novel delivery systems have also been included here.

Due to the increasing demand for milk alternatives, related to both health and ethical needs, plant-based yogurt-like products have been widely explored in recent years. With the main goal to obtain snacks similar to the conventional yogurt in terms of textural and sensory properties and ability to host viable lactic acid bacteria for a long-time storage, several plant-derived ingredients (e.g., cereals, pseudocereals, legumes, and fruits) as well as technological solutions (e.g., enzymatic and thermal treatments) have been investigated. The central role of fermentation in yogurt-like production led to specific selections of lactic acid bacteria strains to be used as starters to guarantee optimal textural (e.g., through the synthesis of exo-polysaccharydes), nutritional (high protein digestibility and low content of anti-nutritional compounds), and functional (synthesis of bioactive compounds) features of the products. This review provides an overview of the novel insights on fermented yogurt-like products. The state-of-the-art on the use of unconventional ingredients, traditional and innovative biotechnological processes, and the effects of fermentation on the textural, nutritional, functional, and sensory features, and the shelf life are described. The supplementation of prebiotics and probiotics and the related health effects are also reviewed.

A hexanucleotide repeat expansion mutation in the first intron of C9orf72 is the most common known genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia. Since the discovery in 2011, numerous pathogenic mechanisms, including both loss and gain of function, have been proposed. The body of work overall suggests that toxic gain of function arising from bidirectionally transcribed repeat RNA is likely to be the primary driver of disease. In this review, we outline the key pathogenic mechanisms that have been proposed to date and discuss some of the novel therapeutic approaches currently in development.

Powerful antioxidant α-lipoic acid (LA) exhibits limited therapeutic efficiency due to its pharmacokinetic properties. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to evaluate the ability of silica-based composites of LA as well as its amide (lipoamide, LM), as new oral drug formulations, to control their release and maintain their therapeutic concentration and antioxidant activity in the body over a long time. The composites synthesized at different sol–gel synthesis pH and based on silica matrixes with various surface chemistry were investigated. The release behavior of the composites in media mimicking pH of digestive fluids (pH 1.6, 6.8, and 7.4) was revealed. The effects of chemical structure of the antioxidants, synthesis pH, surface chemistry of the silica matrixes in the composites as well as the pH of release medium on kinetic parameters of the drug release and mechanisms of the process were discussed. The comparative analysis of the obtained data allowed the determination of the most promising composites. Using these composites, modeling of the release process of the antioxidants in accordance with transit conditions of the drugs in stomach, proximal, and distal parts of small intestine and colon was carried out. The composites exhibited the release close to the zero order kinetics and maintained the therapeutic concentration of the drugs and antioxidant effect in all parts of the intestine for up to 24 h. The obtained results showed that encapsulation of LA and LM in the silica matrixes is a promising way to improve their bioavailability and antioxidant activity.

For a long time, the pharmaceutical industry focused on natural biologically active molecules due to their unique properties, availability and significantly less side-effects. Mangiferin is a naturally occurring C-glucosylxantone that has substantial potential for the treatment of various diseases thanks to its numerous biological activities. Many research studies have proven that mangiferin possesses antioxidant, anti-infection, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, cardiovascular, neuroprotective properties and it also increases immunity. It is especially important that it has no toxicity. However, mangiferin is not being currently applied to clinical use because its oral bioavailability as well as its absorption in the body are too low. To improve the solubility, enhance the biological action and bioavailability, mangiferin integrated polymer systems have been developed. In this paper, we review molecular mechanisms of anti-cancer action as well as a number of designed polymer-mangiferin systems. Taking together, mangiferin is a very promising anti-cancer molecule with excellent properties and the absence of toxicity.
