Abstract Background Margin Reflex Distance 1(MRD 1) only describes the central height of upper eyelid and relies on the examiner’s experience and disregards eyelid contour abnormalities. Therefore MRD 1 may not be sufficient for an acceptable result to evaluate the outcomes of ptosis surgery. The primary purpose of this study was to assess outcomes of unilateral ptosis correction based on parameters including degree of symmetry, MRD 1, peak height of the upper lid, temporal and nasal ocular surface area, and temporal/nasal area ratio with an objective, quantitative, and repeatable method. Methods This study was designed as a retrospective non-randomized case-control study. Medical records of the patients with unilateral ptosis between October 2015 and December 2020 were reviewed. Patients with unilateral ptosis who underwent surgical correction and levator function of 5 mm or greater were included in the study. Two groups were defined; ptotic eye was case group and contralateral eye was control group. Data analysis was performed Image J and Matlab softwares. Results Thirty-four patients were included in the study. Mean age of patients was 58.8 ± 12.7 years (range 15–75 years). Mean follow-up time was 19.5 ± 7.3 months (range 8–40 months). Four patients were diagnosed with congenital ptosis and 30 patients aponeurotic ptosis. Mean preoperative degree of symmetry for overall eyelid contour was 36.6 ± 27.5% (range 1–92%). Mean postoperative degree of symmetry for overall eyelid contour was 72.4 ± 16.5% (range 55–92%). Temporal/Nasal (T/N) area ratios for contralateral normal eye was 1.19 pre-postoperative, and it was 1.11 preoperatively, 1.15 postoperatively for operated ptotic eye. Conclusions This study primarily demonstrated a quantitative, objective, and repeatable method to investigate the degree of symmetry after eyelid surgeries. Secondly, this study suggested that T/N ratio may not be a reliable parameter to evaluate the eyelid symmetry.

Background. Gross motor is one of the skill domain with the highest parental concern as mastering it determines the autonomy of a child. Several internal risk factors including perinatal asphyxia, prematurity, low birth weight, wide fontanelle, and microcephaly have been studied in predicting gross motor delay with varied results. This study is made to arrange a strategic intervention on the prevention of delayed development. Objective. To evaluate perinatal asphyxia, gestation age <37 weeks, birth weight <2500 grams, microcephaly, and wide fontanelle as predictors of gross motor delay in children aged 6-24 months. Methods. A case control study design was used. Data collection was conducted by direct assessment of gross motor skill and parents’ interview in Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital and Anakku Clinic, South Jakarta. Children with gross motor delay were included in the case group and children with normal gross motor were included in the control group. Data was analyzed using bivariate and multivariate analysis with a statistical significance value of P<0.05 and 95% confidence intervals. Results. One hundred and twenty-six subjects were studied, with 63 children in the case group and 63 children in the control group. Baseline characteristics of subjects were similar between the two groups. Microcephaly and gestation age <37 weeks were predictors of gross motor delay [(aOR 4.613 (95% CI 95 2.023 to 10.521, P<0.001) and (aOR 3.668 (95% CI 1.153 to 11.673, P=0.028), respectively]. Conclusion. Microcephaly and gestation age <37 weeks are significant predictors of gross motor delay in children aged 6-24 months.

Objectives. Consensus guidelines establish that HPV testing should not be used to manage adolescents with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US). This study aimed to estimate the impact on follow-up of HPV testing after the first-time ASC-US diagnosis. Methods. From January 2009 to December 2010, all ASC-US diagnoses in adolescents were retrieved. Results. 1950 cervical cytologies were received from this population and 335 cases (17.1%) were reported as ASC-US. A total of 287 cases were included in the study. Cases were divided into control group (no HPV test; 46 cases) and case group (HPV test performed; 241 cases). On follow-up, in the control group, 43.4% patients had cytology, and 56.6% patients had no follow-up. The case group was divided into negative HPV (60 cases) and positive HPV (181 cases). In the negative-HPV group, 41.7% had cytology and 58.3% had no follow-up. In the positive-HPV group, 41% had cytology, 22% underwent colposcopy, and 37% had no follow-up. Patients with positive-HPV results were more likely to have follow-up than patients in the control and negative-HPV groups (63% versus 43.4% versus 41.7%, resp.). Conclusions. HPV infections are common in adolescents. A positive HPV test cannot predict which women will develop carcinoma. Adherence to current guidelines is recommended in this population.

Background: Small defects of the inner canthus can be difficult to repair with an aesthetically satisfactory result, due to the difficulty in matching skin types and the resulting donor site scars. Methods: We describe a technique which we have employed for repairing skin defects around the inner canthus, using a cutaneous advancement flap from the upper eyelid, based on the superior palpebral artery. Results: Complete excision of the lesion was possible, and a cosmetically acceptable result was obtained. Conclusions: By using this technique, skin is moved within one aesthetic unit, thus maximising skin type matching and cosmetic results. In addition, the technique creates a donor site which can be easily hidden within the natural creases of the upper lid, and the arterial supply maximises the chances of flap survival.

According to national neonatal perinatal data (NNPD) the survival of ELBW babies has improved from 37% in 2000 to 45% in 2002-3 reports. In our neonatal unit in PGIMER the survival of ELBW babies has been 54-56% in last 5 years, however unfortunately there is very scanty reports of long term outcome of ELBW babies from India. There is very scanty report of long term growth outcome of VLBW and ELBW Babies in our country, we reported VLBW and ELBW babies in our follow up had poor catch up growth, though some catch-up was observed at 6 month but subsequent lag in growth probably reflects poor weaning at 1 year.  Infants with extremely low birth weights (ELBWs) are more susceptible to all of the possible complications of premature birth, both in the immediate neonatal period and after discharge from the nursery. These babies are at risk of poor growth and developmental. in the present study a total of 39 cases of ELBW Babies were enrolled during one year study period from July 2011- June2012 attending the neonatal follow up clinic attained 2year±3month of corrected age. Their detail birth data and postnatal illnesses retrieved from their initial hospital files and unit discharge record. A similar number of babies enrolled at 2yrs±3months of age in the control group. In the presence study, we assessed the growth, and neurological out come in extremely low birth baby attained 2yrs±3 months of corrected age. The study population consisted of 39 children of ELBW baby born during 2009 -10 at PGIMER & same number of normal birth weight children at 2yr±3 months of corrected age who satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria. These children were enrolled from neonatal follow up clinic who were already undergoing long term follow up. For growth outcome, we used weight, height & head circumference measurement of child, for neurological and developmental outcome used clinical neurological examination and DP-III .Base line demographic characteristics of our ELBW babies (Cases) where as follows.   Mean (S.D) gestational age of  ELBW babies was 29.87±2.3 week. Mean (S.D) birth weight 867±71.1 grams, Mean (S.D) lenght35±2.1cm & head circumference was 25.76±1.9 cm. Mean hospital stay in the ELBW babies was 48.6±19.9 days. Mean birth weight and gestational age of control group where 2684±166.2grm and 39.03±0.9 weeks. At 2year of corrected age we found  - Weight was similar in both in case group & control group. (10.04±1.4 Vs 10.75±1.1). Height and head circumference were smaller in cases than control group. (81.4±4.3 Vs 84.4±3.3 and 45.9±1.6 Vs 46.8±1.5. 5% Babies had cerebral palsy in case group (N=2/39) and none in control group. Gross development score(GDS) in Development profile-III in both study group (cases & controls) was  similar  (72.49±8.08 Vs 73.54±9.3,p=0.596). Significant difference in domains physical (84.5±7.8 Vs.90±3.5, p=0.000) and domains adaptive (81±6.7 Vs. 85.3±5.4,p= 0.003) in cases as compared to controls. There was no difference between SGA and AGA among cases in growth and neurological development. There was no difference between male and female in case group in any parameter .There is very scanty data from our country on longterm follow up of ELBW babies. Our data shows that our ELBW cohort remained small in height and had smaller head circumference though weight was similar as compared to normal control babies.  Key words: ELBW, VLBW, birth weight, neurological examination.

Children under the age of five or under five are a group that is prone to nutrition, because they are prone to malnutrition due to lack of food needed. Malnutrition in children will cause decreased immunity, which means that the ability to defend themselves against bacterial infection decreases. Children who have less nutritional status have the potential to suffer from pyoderma. Lack of the amount of food consumed both in quality and quantity can reduce the nutritional status of children. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of pyoderma in toddlers (1-5 years) in Kuok Village, the working area of Puskesmas Kuok in 2020. This study used an analytical research design with a case control design. The sample in this study were 62 children (1-5 years). 31 samples for the case group and 31 samples for the control group. data collection through questionnaires. Data processing used univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of pyoderma in toddlers (1-5 years) with p value = 0.001. By holding this research, the researchers expected parents of toddlers to pay more attention to the nutritional status of their children in order to avoid infectious diseases such as pyoderma.

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify whether the use of prophylactic intrasite vancomycin as an adjuvant is a protective factor against deep tissue infection of the surgical site. Methods: Retrospective, descriptive, case-control study evaluating 210 patients, of whom 70 received intrasite vancomycin (case group) and 140 were controls. It was made a follow up for at least one year, reviewing the physical and electronic records. Data were tabulated in spreadsheets (Excel) including all variables and the statistical analysis was made with Epi InfoTM 7 to calculate the odds ratio. Results: Seven cases of deep infection occurred in the control group and none was found in the case group (odds ratio [95% confidence interval]: 0.1262 [0.007-2.24], P = 0.1585). Among the predisposing factors, diabetes and surgical time were the most relevant. Conclusions: Intrasite use of vancomycin has a protective effect against deep infection in patients undergoing lumbar fusion surgery without presenting considerable side effects.

Introduction: Contraception usage in Indonesia had not effective yet. The high usage of contraception not compensated by evenness on each type of contraception. Implant as a long acting reversible contraception with high effectiveness is rarely used because of negative perception in society. The existence of negative perception caused by lack of information and knowledge about implant contraception. The study analysed association between implant contraception usage with Education Information Communication (EIC) and knowledge. Methods: An observational analytic with a case control design. The population were 822 contraceptive acceptors. Study period on January-December 2018. Total samples were 70 with a sampling technique using purposive sampling. Divided into 2 groups, (35 non-implant acceptors as a case group and 35 implant acceptors as a control group). Data obtained through primary data and obtained from the results of guided interviews and questionnaires. Then analyzed through the chi square statistical test. Results: 60% of acceptors got a good EIC about implant contraception (p=0.001), 51.4% of acceptors had enough knowledge about implant contraception (p=0.94).Conclusion: There is an association between EIC with implant contraception usage, but there isn’t an association between knowledge of implant contraception usage.
