In today’s era, shadow education is becoming an important form of education in the education system. The pursuit of shadow education among parents and the dependence of students on it heightens its value. However, with the continuous development of shadow education, its profit-seeking nature has begun to appear, and many educational problems are surfacing in the development process. This paper studies shadow education on the basis of Marx’s educational theories, such as the theory of all-round development and game theory. It analyzes the implications of shadow education which are not conducive to social or personal development, in order to continuously improve shadow education, provide better assistance for mainstream school education, and promote the comprehensive development of primary school students.

The article looks at the experience of building a media environment at school as a system of self-education and self-development for modern teenagers. The authors present a model of development of teenagers’ creative self-actualization in the media educational environment, the technology of media culture use in the educational environment and an original diagnostic methodology for determination of the degree of development of school students’ creative self-actualization based on assessment of independent work carried out by teenagers (media projects creation) taking into account emotional and semantic visualization of information and the symbolism of associative-semantic connections to evaluate the quality of the conducted work. As a result of the performed experiment, the authors identified personal characteristics shown by school students in the course of their work on media projects and developed a typology of dominant activities that includes four types of individual characteristics observed in school students: analytical, informational, proactive and synthetic types. Based on this typology the authors have determined the relevance and necessity for differentiation of work with teenagers of different ages in various forms of media educational environment and development of their individual educational paths. Correspondingly, a four-stage mechanism of introduction of a teenager into a media educational environment has been suggested providing for the integration of art into the educational environment. The article presents the results of a pilot project that was carried out in state budgetary educational institutions located in Moscow: School no. 1253, School no. 171, School no. 89 and in the children's creative center Trubetskoy Estate in Khamovniki. The article is intended for scientists, teachers, pedagogues and methodological experts who deal with the issues of media education.

The aim of this study is to compare course engagement for vocational education students who enrolled in the Cisco Networking Academy (CNA) courses and who took the network courses from the standard vocational education curriculum in Turkey. The comparison group was established in a way that students in both groups had very similar characteristics. The data were collected using a survey throughout 2 separate school years. The participants are 2793 vocational education students (Cisco Group=1373, Non-Cisco Group=1420). Engagement was measured with 7 constructs, which are active learning, collaborative learning, interaction with instructor, student effort, feedback, satisfaction, and personal development. The instruments were validated through a series of instrument validation steps. First, the original items in the instruments were reviewed by a panel of experts, and then a pilot test was conducted on high school students. A factor analysis was run to identify items grouped under the same construct and unrelated items were removed from the survey. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Independent Samples t Tests after satisfying necessary assumptions. The results indicated that Cisco students in both years of the study scored higher than non-Cisco students in all engagement constructs. All differences were significant between Cisco and non-Cisco students. Comparing within the student groups, Cisco students showed somewhat consistent picture in both years. With the exception of active learning, collaboration, and satisfaction, all measured constructs were in similar scores whereas non-Cisco students showed significant decreases on all engagement constructs. What factors might be influential on engagement and implementations are discussed.
