scholarly journals The Technology of Media Culture usage in the Educational Environment: Development of Creative Self-Actualization

The article looks at the experience of building a media environment at school as a system of self-education and self-development for modern teenagers. The authors present a model of development of teenagers’ creative self-actualization in the media educational environment, the technology of media culture use in the educational environment and an original diagnostic methodology for determination of the degree of development of school students’ creative self-actualization based on assessment of independent work carried out by teenagers (media projects creation) taking into account emotional and semantic visualization of information and the symbolism of associative-semantic connections to evaluate the quality of the conducted work. As a result of the performed experiment, the authors identified personal characteristics shown by school students in the course of their work on media projects and developed a typology of dominant activities that includes four types of individual characteristics observed in school students: analytical, informational, proactive and synthetic types. Based on this typology the authors have determined the relevance and necessity for differentiation of work with teenagers of different ages in various forms of media educational environment and development of their individual educational paths. Correspondingly, a four-stage mechanism of introduction of a teenager into a media educational environment has been suggested providing for the integration of art into the educational environment. The article presents the results of a pilot project that was carried out in state budgetary educational institutions located in Moscow: School no. 1253, School no. 171, School no. 89 and in the children's creative center Trubetskoy Estate in Khamovniki. The article is intended for scientists, teachers, pedagogues and methodological experts who deal with the issues of media education.

Purpose As luxury goods are losing their importance for demonstrating status, wealth or power to others, individuals are searching for alternative status symbols. Recently, individuals have increasingly used conspicuous consumption and displays of experiences on social media to obtain affirmation. This study aims to analyze the effects of luxury and nonluxury experiences, as well as traditional luxury goods on status- and nonstatus-related dimensions. Design/methodology/approach After presenting the theoretical foundation, the authors conduct a study with 599 participants to compare status perceptions elicited by the conspicuous consumption of luxury goods, luxury experiences and nonluxury experiences. The authors investigate whether experiences that are visibly consumed on Instagram are replacing traditional luxury goods as the most important status symbols. Furthermore, the authors examine the effects of the content shown on nonstatus-related dimensions and analyze whether status perceptions differ between female and male social media communicators. Finally, the authors analyze how personal characteristics (self-esteem, self-actualization and materialism) influence the status perceptions of others on social media. Findings The results show that luxury goods are still the most important means of displaying status. However, especially for women, luxury experiences are also associated with a high level of social status. Thus, the results imply important gender differences in the perceptions of status- and nonstatus-related dimensions. Furthermore, the findings indicate that, in particular, the individual characteristics of self-actualization and materialism affect status perceptions depending on the posted content. Originality/value While the research has already considered some alternative forms of conspicuous consumption, little attention has been given to experiences as status symbols. However, with their growing importance as substitutes for luxury goods and the rise of social media, the desire to conspicuously consume experiences is increasing. The authors address this gap in the literature by focusing on the conspicuous display of luxury and nonluxury experiences on social media.

The article highlights the leading ideas of Ukrainian scientists – philosophers, psychologists, educators – about the ways of individualization of education in the period of its reforming on a humanistic basis (1991-2014). The provisions of the personality-oriented paradigm of education, genetic psychology, psychology of creativity, approaches to the education of gifted children are reflected. It was substantiated that since the mid-1990s, education and upbringing in the Ukrainian school began to modernize in the spirit of the new post-non-classical education model. According to it declared, it wasn’t the acquisition of a person’s amount of knowledge that was recognized as a value, but the development of person’s potential and capabilities, the process of its creative self-actualization and self-realization, that is, the personalityoriented model of school education, the value of school education. It is shown that Ukrainian scientists in their studies substantiated the humanistic paradigm of subjectivity. It is shown that V. Kremen as the President of the National Academy of Education of Ukraine develops the paradigm of human centeredness in the context of the synergy of the value-cognitive meanings of the educational process and in the context of the actual philosophical problem of «complexity». The post-non-classical Ukrainian system of education is approved based on its informatization and computerization, and the development of the individual is largely based on the possibilities of the information space. However, the methodology of the activity approach remained in the study of the personality of the student. Ukrainian scientists created the basis for the study of the students’ psyche not as a combination of individual mental functions and cognitive parameters, which is characteristic of functional and cognitive psychology, but as an integrity with all the individual characteristics and manifestations that the person as a subject develops, organizes and controls.

The problem of preserving the vision of younger generation is one of the most pressing issues not only in the field of health, but also in the field of education. This problem has become especially important in the context of intensification of modern school students' education. Unfortunately, over the past decades, there has been an increase in prevalence of visual impairment of children. Currently there is a special term — «school short-sightedness (Myopia) ". According to many researchers, vision problems begin from the moment the children enter school, and this alarming trend is being detected around the world today. The article presents the results of a survey of Moscow school teachers conducted in January 2020 in order to identify the level and content of their knowledge about visual disorders, awareness of issues of vision protection and methods of work with students, as well as the request for training in activities aimed at preventing and correcting visual disorders of students. 387 teachers from Moscow state schools (31educational complex from different administrative districts of Moscow) took part in the survey. The survey data obtained confirm that today in educational organizations the work on protection of children's vision is episodic, or is not carried out. The reasons for this are insufficient knowledge and lack of special training of teachers in issues of vision protectionof students. All of the above confirms the relevance of development of measures for activities in educational organizations for vision protection, dictates the need to develop both methodological support and educational training programs for teachers aimed at prevention and correction of visual disorders of students.
