Dynamic changes of economic structures resulting partially from globalization processes and international integration, strengthened by technological development induce economic entities to search for strategic as well as operational solutions that enable to gain and maintain competitive advantage. The statements seem to be especially important for retail trade entities that, apart from domestic competition, are forced to compete with retailers with foreign capital, that possess not only rich financial resources but also a lot of advantages in technical, organizational or managerial fields. Theoretical indication to improve such situation is to cooperate. In the paper there was taken an attempt to define scale and scope of cooperation between retailers functioning in podkarpackie voivodeship. There was verified a thesis about existence of relationship between cooperation activity and economic condition of the entities under research. Expectations of entrepreneurs who consider engagement in relations with their competitors were presented. Destimulants and stimulants of development of cooperation in trade were analysed as well. Conclusions in the paper were based on data extracted from the own research realized in the form of questionnaire survey in a group of 292 retailers functioning in podkarpackie voivodeship.

Abstract Diseases of affluence (of the 21st c.) by definition should have higher prevalence and/or mortality rates in richer and more developed countries than in poorer, underdeveloped states (where diseases of poverty are more common). Therefore, it has been indicated that it is civilizational progress that makes us sick. On the other hand, substantial financial resources, highly qualified medical personnel, and the cutting-edge technology of richer states, should allow for effective preventions, diagnostics, and treatment of diseases of poverty and of affluence. Therefore, a dilemma arises: is progress making us sick or curing us? To evaluate the influence of country socioeconomic and technological development on population health, a spatial analysis of the epidemiology of diseases of affluence and distribution of economic resources for European NUTS 2 has been performed. The main aim of this paper is to assess, how regional diversity in the prevalence of diseases of affluence is related to the regional development of regions.

Big Data has been listed as one of the current and future research frontiers by Gartner. Large-sized companies are already investing on and leveraging big data. Small-sized and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can also leverage big data to gain a strategic competitive advantage but are often limited by the lack of adequate financial resources to invest on the technology and manpower. Several big data challenges still exist especially in computer architecture that is CPU-heavy but I/O poor. Cloud computing eliminates the need to maintain expensive computing hardware and software. Cloud computing resources and techniques can be leveraged to address the traditional problems associated with fault tolerance and low performance causing bottlenecks to using big data. SMEs can take advantage of cloud computing techniques to avail the advantages of big data without significant investments in technology and manpower. This paper explores the current trends in the area of big data using cloud resources and how SMEs can take advantage of these technological trends. The results of this study will benefit SMEs in identifying and exploring possible opportunities and also understanding the challenges in leveraging big data.

The study conducted 45 households questionnaire survey in total using simple random sampling in ward number six of Chhathar Jorpati rural municipality. The statistical analysis of collected field survey data was preformed through correlation test and standard deviation. The result shows that the socio-economic condition and the livelihood of the vegetable farmers is improving in recent years. Before doing commercial vegetable farming, farmers cultivated potatoes and used to exchange their production with cereal crops to the neighboring villages. Farmers used to cultivate maize in their farmland, but due to the climatic and the topographic condition it took almost nine months (from January to October) for production. Among the total households, 24.4 percent farmers have seven members in their family and the average family size is 6.3. The Chhetri is the dominant ethnic group of the study area. Among educated groups, the majorities have completed secondary level of education. Most of the farmers are (35.5%) holding land size between 16 and 20 Ropani (0.82-0.10ha.). The majorities of the farmers cultivated high valued vegetables i. e., cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, pea, radish, carrot and green leafy vegetables. The average income from vegetable farming is NRs. 250000/household per year. Primarily, farmers use their income to manage foods, clothes, children education and daily-required goods. Further, due to the lack of sufficient human resources, improved seeds and fertilizer, the majorities of the farmers are facing challenges in their vegetable farming. As organisations find themselves in an increasingly dynamic and competitive world they are seeking new strategies to ensure their competitive advantage and profitability. Logistics presents an area in which these organisations can improve customer service and reduce costs, and strategies in support thereof such as the outsourcing of logistics activities, should be considered. However, it is critical that logistics outsourcing is done diligently to avoid potential problems for the organisation and to achieve the best possible benefits. In South Africa little research has been done regarding current outsourcing practices of local manufacturers. In this article literature on international logistics outsourcing as well as research on some of the logistics outsourcing practices of South African manufacturers is discussed. The findings of a questionnaire survey of South African manufacturers provided information on their logistics outsourcing practices and problems. Prominent issues seem to include inadequate managerial involvement in the logistics outsourcing process, as well as insufficient time spent on many of the important aspects of the outsourcing agreement, the transitioning of resources and ongoing management of the outsourced relationship. It is concluded that a thorough outsourcing process should be followed in order to achieve the benefits of logistics outsourcing.

A self-employed innovator developed and patented a novel combination pen and stylus device to complement the recently released Palm Pilot personal digital assistant. He presented his design to Palm, under a nondisclosure agreement to discuss the market response to the product, and his company, ttools, was subsequently allowed to advertise the device in a monthly e-mail to Palm customers. After ttools' release of the Throttle pen/stylus, Palm and the design firm IDEO introduced a similar pen/stylus device that appeared to infringe on ttools' patent. ttools, being a small, resource-constrained company, was in a precarious position. This article presents an overview of retail trade in India in the wake of the country’s new policy that will allow foreign capital in multi-band retailing. It discusses various potential benefits and costs of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector, particularly in terms of its effects on traditional retailers, employment, consumers, farmers, and local manufacturers. It argues that given somewhat slower growth projection for the Indian economy during the next decade, various structural issues including inadequate infrastructure and a lack of affordable real estate, and the prevalent structure of the agricultural markets, it is unlikely that all the potential benefits and costs will be realised to their fullest extent, at least in the foreseeable future. The economic dynamics and the political process will play an important role in determining the outcomes of this move to allow FDI in the retail sector and will ultimately determine the effects on various stakeholders.

Rapid technological development changes the form of competition between profit-oriented companies. The presence of new methods of company management is getting more intense due to the demands of a competitive advantage with other companies. One of the areas that can create competitive advantage is the operational sector. Furthermore, Supply Chain Management has become one of the main components as a competitive strategy to develop the productivity and profitability capabilities of a company. Meanwhile, crossdocking systems have been found for a long time, but the application is often not too significant for companies and there is still room for optimization. Therefore, the researcher was interested in carrying out research related to crossdocking. In this study, the target company is PT. XYZ as a distribution center company that has problems in managing distribution costs and supplies to its partners. By implementing crossdocking, it can help companies in minimizing distribution and inventory costs. The steps in this study are determining vehicle distribution routes, calculating the number of distribution fleets, scheduling distribution fleets, calculating the total safety stock and calculating the ratio of the total cost of supplies in the current condition to the proposed conditions. The research results obtained 2 optimal distribution routes with a total distribution fleet of 2 units, divided into fleet 1 with a capacity of 800 units and fleet 2 with a capacity of 767 units. As for the scheduling results, the makespan value of each fleet is obtained, namely 240 minutes for fleet 1 and 248 minutes for fleet 2. The amount of safety stock for each type of cellphone is Y19 with 27 units of safety stock, Y12 with 102 units of safety stock, Y30 with safety stock 75 units and V19 with safety stock 54 units. The total cost of supplies is 2,989,055 rupiah in one order process.
