SummaryBackground: Most patients cannot remember their entire medication regimen and occasionally forget to take their medication. Objectives: The objective of the study was to design, develop, and demonstrate the feasibility of a new type of medication self-management system using smartphones with real-time medication monitoring. Methods: We designed and developed a smartphone-based medication self-management system (SMSS) based on interviews of 116 patients. The system offered patients two main functions by means of smartphones: (1) storage and provision of an accurate, portable medication history and medication-taking records of patients; and (2) provision of a reminder to take medication only when the patient has forgotten to take his/her medication. These functions were realized by two data input methods: (a) reading of prescription data represented in two-dimensional barcodes using the smartphone camera and getting the photographic images of the pills; and (b) real-time medication monitoring by novel user-friendly wireless pillboxes. Results: Interviews suggested that a pocket-sized pillbox was demanded to support patient’s medication-taking outside the home and pillboxes for home use should be adaptable to the different means of pillbox storage. In accordance with the result, we designed and developed SMSS. Ten patients participated in the feasibility study. In 17 out of 47 cases (36.2%), patients took their medication upon being presented with reminders by the system. Correct medication-taking occur-rence was improved using this system. Conclusions: The SMSS is acceptable to patients and has the advantage of supporting ubiquitous medication self-management using a smartphone. We believe that the proposed system is feasible and provides an innovative solution to encourage medication self-management.Citation: Hayakawa M, Uchimura Y, Omae K, Waki K, Fujita H, Ohe K. Controlling the safe distances between vehicles on freeways can be used to prevent many accidents. In this research, image-processing techniques have been used to develop an online system that calculates the longitudinal distances between vehicles. This system facilitates controlling safe distances between vehicles without the need for high technology devices. Our approach is real-time and simple, but efficient operations have been used to reduce the image occlusion problem. The main concept of this system is using simple, quick, and effective algorithms for calculating the position of each vehicle in each image. In this way, traffic parameters like speed and distances between vehicles can be calculated for each vehicle in real time. In addition, aggregate parameters like average speed, density, and traffic flow can be calculated using gathered data of single vehicles. As an application of the developed system, controlling the safe distance between vehicles has been introduced. In this system, in case of a driver who does not observe the safe distance, the scene of violation is stored and can be used by the police agencies. KEY WORDS: image processing, traffic, longitudinal safe distance, real time, occlusion

The development of the internet has been triggering numerous mutations in the visualization of actors in economic network independence distribution (ENID) of goods. ENID overcomes the physical barriers of shop-floor space so unprecedented variety of products could be offered to the customers. Avoidance of expensive trade space allows suppliers to reduce price compared to those in the physical world. User friendly and easy contact with the supplier of the goods make shopping very convenient. Despite these advantages of ENID, there is a need to develop better theories about how this system should behave in order to protect participants’ interests. This work employed hierarchical database model using B-tree and pre-order algorithm to insert and traverse participant records for easy processing. N-level models were adopted to calculate each level and sub-level cluster commission. The implementation was carried out using C# and sql. The application of the model permits the participants to query any information about ENID for on line real time decision makings.

Rapid advancements have been made in the field of artificial intelligence in recent years. This has resulted in its adoption in various technologies from medicine to search engines. Existing media management systems have however not yet fully leveraged the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to give users enhanced information apart from basic media metadata. This chapter proposes a smart movie management system which works majorly offline and uses AI to deliver optimum information to the users on four vital tasks. These tasks are multilevel phrase level review polarity, plot and review keywords, a content-based recommendation system, and an emotion recognition system. The complete system works in near-real time with a user-friendly presentation to maximize a user's information gain.

Realizing media independence in today’s communication system remains an open problem by and large. Information retrieval, mostly through the Internet, is becoming the most demanding feature in technological progress and this web-based data access should ideally be in user-selective form. While blind-folded access of data through the World Wide Web is quite streamlined, the counter-half of the facet, namely, seamless access of information database pertaining to a specific end-device, e.g. robotic systems, is still in a formative stage. This paradigm of access as well as systematic query-based retrieval of data, related to the physical enddevice is very crucial in designing the Internet-based network control of the same in real-time. Moreover, this control of the end-device is directly linked up to the characteristics of three coupled metrics, namely, ‘multiple databases’, ‘multiple servers’ and ‘multiple inputs’ (to each server). This triad, viz. database-input-server (DIS) plays a significant role in overall performance of the system, the background details of which is still very sketchy in global research community. This work addresses the technical issues associated with this theology, with specific reference to formalism of a customized DIS considering real-time delay analysis. The present paper delineates the developmental paradigms of novel multi-input multioutput communication semantics for retrieving web-based information from physical devices, namely, two representative robotic sub-systems in a coherent and homogeneous mode. The developed protocol can be entrusted for use in real-time in a complete user-friendly manner.
