Purpose At Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, an annual short-term, research abroad non-credit program was created in 2012 as a core component of the undergraduate research initiative that achieves learning outcomes in a meaningful way. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach In order to describe, and analyze the short-term research abroad activity, an instrumental case study design was created. The instrumental case study was chosen as a means of allowing the facilitators/authors to communicate how they attempted to assure that the program was educative. In order to determine if the program was in fact educative and that it met its goal of being an effective research experience the authors utilized two additional research methods. The first was a document analysis of the participant’s research artifacts. Each participant was required to communicate their findings by writing a paper that was submitted for publication to an applicable research journal. Findings The study found that an experiential education as a pedagogical framework coupled with a short-term research abroad activity can lead to a substantive educative experience, where the authors described and analyzed attempts to ensure that the short-term research abroad program was educative, it also describes the educational assessment findings which describe what was found when the authors tested whether they, in fact, met this goal. Research limitations/implications During the design phase of the short-term research abroad program, the authors turned to experiential education as a principle for how they would ensure that the program was grounded in an acceptable educational theory. Experiential education is a widely accepted educational practice used in experiences such as co-ops and internships, study abroad, undergraduate research and service learning. Practical implications To frame the short-term cultural research abroad program as something from which student could learn the authors utilized the National Society of Experiential Education’s (2013) list of eight principles of good practice. In order to safeguard that an activity is educative, an assessment or an evaluation of a demonstrative artifact is essential. In assessing the final artifact against a rubric or some other non-biased or less biased criteria, an educator can ensure that the student has gained new knowledge in the form of student learning outcomes (SLOs). In addition, the educator can use the results of this assessment to modify many different aspects of the experience ranging from the timing, the modality, the pre-work, even the learning outcomes themselves. Social implications Given financial and curriculum inflexibility of some students, Universities and faculty could achieve attainment of research-based, program agnostic, SLOs by offering short-term study abroad alternatives to the traditional semester or year-long experiences. With graduates looking to enter the job market where businesses are more globalized and executive’s recognition of a need for more international experience, carefully constructed short-term study abroad programs are meaningful avenues to build those credentials. Originality/value Such offerings can be constructed as customized experiences to achieve highly integrated skills across all degree programs.

Abstract: This research was conducted to reveal the various dynamics of teaching methods of teachers in using school facilities and infrastructure to support the learning process. The approach used is qualitative with a case study design. The results showed that the dynamics of teacher teaching methods in using school facilities and infrastructure were still in the suboptimal category as evidenced by: (1) the lack of understanding of teachers about the importance of utilizing school facilities and infrastructure when implementing the learning process; and (2) lack of teacher creativity in utilizing available school facilities and infrastructure to develop students' potential and creativity in producing learning products. So that indirectly has an impact, both on teacher performance and creativity as well as student learning outcomes and achievements in schools. References: Azhar, A. (2005). Media Pembelajaran. Opportunities for refugees to engage in occupations within host countries can be constrained by factors such as governmental policies or language barriers (Smith). Female refugees with physical disabilities may experience compounding barriers to participation related to their identity markers. The main aim of this study is to understand the experiences of female refugees with physical disabilities in seeking, preparing for, and obtaining employment. This study used an instrumental case study using semistructured interviews with five primary participants and four caregivers. Thematic analysis (Clarke & Braun) identified five key barriers to securing employment: (a) stigma and discrimination, (b) restrictive traditional labor market, (c) inaccessible and inadequate housing, (d) lack of cohesion and information across services, and (e) English language predominance. Findings highlight complex challenges experienced by the women who faced intersecting systems of oppression and can enable occupational therapists to address barriers associated with occupational injustice by improving services to better meet their needs.

The background of this research is that srudents’ mathematics learning outcomes are still low, students participate less and have not maximized their role in group learning. The purpose of the study was to determine  the improvement of students’ mathematics learning outcomes by applying the pair checks type cooperative learning model to the VIII grade students of SMP Pertiwi 2. This type of researchis pre-experimental design research with research design one shoot case study. The population in this study were students class VIII SMP Pertiwi 2 Padang which consists of 2 classes retrieval technique. The sample was taken using purposive sampling, so that class VIII.1 was chosen SMP Pertiwi 2 Padang as a sample. The research instrument is the final test in the form of essays and reliability of questions  = 0,86 with reliable criteria. Based on the calculation results, it was obtained that the percentage of learning outcomes obtained by students while using the pair checks type of cooperative learning model obtained t count = -2,5 = 2,5 (absolute value) and t table = 1,79 with the degree of truth (dk) = n-1, n = 12 then (dk) = 11 and a significant rate of 5% = 0,05. So  is rejected because t count > t table. So it can be concluded that there is an increase in student learning outcomes by applying the pair checks cooperative learning model to class VIII students SMP Pertiwi 2 Padang.

This paper addresses the fields of social and service design in development contexts, practice-based and constructive design research. A framework for social design for services will be explored through the survey of existing literature, specifically by drawing on eight doctoral theses that were produced by the World Design research group. The work of World Design researcher-designers was guided by a strong ethos of social and service design for development in marginalised communities. The paper also draws on a case study in Namibia and South Africa titled ‘My Dream World’. This case study presents a good example of how the social design for services framework functions in practice during experimentation and research in the field. The social design for services framework transfers the World Design group’s research results into practical action, providing a tool for the facilitation of design and research processes for sustainable development in marginal contexts.
