Teachers of Islamic education in Indonesia have some problems. On the one hand, they are required to meet the standards of qualification, competencies, and certification. On the other hand, they have over-working hour due to the imbalance between the number of the teachers and the students. This fact will undoubtedly affect their work quality. The work quality of the teachers can be measured by five kinds of competences: pedagogic, personality, social, professional, and leadership. This research is aimed to measure the five competences of the teachers of Islamic Education in Senior High Schools and Senior Vocational Schools (both SMA and SMK) in Central Java, and it is also to examine the hypothesis that there is no significant difference in teachers’ competences in terms of their status: civil servants (PNS) or not (non-PNS), and certified or not. By using quantitative approach, the research has two important findings. The first, the competency of the Islamic teachers in Central Java is on the medium level which have a score at 2.95 on a scale of 4.00. The pedagogic competence occupies the highest level with 3.25, in contrast the social competence is on the lowest one with 2.9. The second, there is no significant difference in competences between the teachers who are civil servants and those who are not. On the contrary, there is a significant difference in competences between the teachers who are certified and who are not certified yet.

Local ducks farm businesses potentially developed as the meat producer, which was expected to fit and complete the nutrition for society. The provision of excellent meat quality was one of the main goals that integrated with the development of animal husbandary. The quality and quantity of meat on the carcass could be seen as one of the indicators of ducks productivity. The study about the influence of various types of ducks to pectoralis meat bone ratio as the component of commercial carcass had to be done to find out about the quality and genetics potentials of every ducks type in order to improve the quality of food. This study aimed to analyze the influence of various types of ducks in Central Java, such as Pengging duck, Tegal duck, and Magelang duck to the carcass quality evaluated from the value of pectoralis meat bone ratio. The ducks used in the study were 6 months. The types of ducks were used as comparison. Samples were taken from the three types of local ducks and the repetition was done six times for each type of ducks. The measured variables were live weight, pectoralis weight, pectoralis percentage, meat bone percentage, and meat bone ratio. The data were analyzed using ANOVA. Real different datas were analyzed by further testing Least Significant Difference Test (LSDT) at the level of 95%. The results showed that various types of local ducks did not significantly affect the value of the pectoralis meat bone ratio, therefore it could be concluded that various local ducks did not affect on pectoralis meat bone ratio. Keywords: Local ducks in Central Java, carcass, pectoralis meat bone ratio.

Abstract. Pratikno H, Haryanto T, Apriyanto DN. 2020. Diversity, density, and distribution of termites in housing complexes in Purwokerto City, Central Java Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 5729-5735. Termite attacks have detrimental effects on buildings and incur considerable costs. The rapid development of housing complex in Purwokerto City, Central Java Province, Indonesia urges an investigation on the occurrence of termite attacks. This research aimed to identify the diversity of termite species, its spatial distribution and its density on a variety of wood on housing complexes in Purwokerto City and the surrounding areas. The context of this study focused on wood species commonly used by the developers, namely albasia (Paraserianthes falcataria), which is commonly used for the upper ceiling, bangkirai (Shorea laevifolia) for poles and door/window frames, and teak (Tectona grandis) which is often used for door and window boards. We used bait techniques with the rationale that it is cheap and environmentally friendly as well as accurate. Four housing complexes in four subdistricts were randomly selected stratified based on four altitude ranges (<100 m, 100 m, 200 m, and 300 m). In each selected housing complex wood baits of three durability types (i.e. albasia, bangkirai and teak) were installed, each measuring 30 cm x 2 cm x 2 cm with five replications. Data of termite species, spatial distribution of termite species, and individual density in each housing complex were recorded after three months since the wood baits were stockpiled. Microclimate variables during the study were also recorded. The differences in density across housing complexes and the three types of wood were tested using ANOVA and continued with Duncan's test. The results showed three species of termites attacked wood baits, namely Microtermes insperatus, Macrotermes gilvus, and Odontotermes javanicus, all belong subterranean termite group. M. insperatus and O. javanicus had specific spatial distribution without overlapping zone among the two, while M. gilvus was the most adaptable and widely distributed in all housing complexes (<100-300 m asl.) regardless of the durable quality of the wood. There was significant difference in termite attacks across housing complexes with Ketapang housing complex in Sokaraja Subdistrict (<100 m asl.) was most frequently attacked. Conversely, there were no significant differences in termite attacks across the three types of wood (i.e. albasia, bangkirai, and teak).

SummaryWe observed that the growth of human umbilical arterysmooth muscle cells was inhibited by the phospholipase A2 inhibitors p-bromophenacylbromide and mepacrine. Thesefindings suggest that fatty acid metabolism might be integrated in the control mechanism of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. To identify eicosanoids possibly involved in this process, we studied both the metabolism of arachidonic acid of these cells in more detail and the effect of certain arachidonic acid metabolites on smooth muscle cells growth. We found no evidence for the conversion of arachidonic acid via the lipoxygenase pathway. In contrast, arachidonic acid was rapidly converted via the cyclooxy-genase pathway. The following metabolites were identified: prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), 6-keto-prostaglandin F1α (6-k-PGF1α), prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α), 12-hydroxyheptadecatrienoic acid (12-HHT) and 11-hydroxyeicosatetetraenoic acid (11-HETE). PGE2 was the major metabolite detected. Arachidonic acid metabolites were only found in the culture medium, not in the cell. After synthesis, 11-HETE was cleared from the culture medium. We have previously reported that PGE2 inhibits the serum-induced [3H]-thymidine incorporation of growth-arrested human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells. Here we show that also 11-HETEexerts this inhibitory property. Thus, our data suggeststhat human umbilical artery smooth muscle cells convert arachidonic acid only via the cyclooxygenase pathway. Certain metabolites produced by this pathway, including PGE2 and 11-HETE, may inhibit vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation.
