Endometriosis is a gynecological disease that endometrial cells develop outside the uterus. This event happens when the endometrial glands grow outside the endometrium and uterine muscles, especially in the pelvis. Although endometriosis is widespread, the clinical manifestations of the disease are very different, and it is challenging to adapt to the conventional classification system to divide patients into homogeneous groups. Given the importance of endometriosis, a correct, accurate, and timely diagnosis of this disease can significantly prevent its complications. Using health-related software is one of these ways. Enhanced Endometriosis Archiving Software (ENEAS) is a web-based application based on one of the most widely used open-source database management systems (MySQL), allowing the direct link to other open-source software for data management and storage. In the current study, the effect of ENEAS application was considered in patients with endometriosis, and its influence on IL-8 and MCP-1 gene expression was evaluated. For this purpose, 100 women with endometriosis were divided into two groups of 50 patients. The first group (control group) was examined by a gynecologist and received medication and treatment. In the case group, their demographic and clinical information were entered into ENEAS software. To study the expression of the IL-8 gene and MCP-1 gene, after collecting 5 ml of blood samples in tubes containing anticoagulant, RNA extraction was performed by Total RNA Purification Kit (Cat. 17200, 37500, 17250). Then cDNA synthesis was performed for this purpose, and a Bioneer DNA synthesis kit (South Korea) was used. The results showed that the expression level of the IL-8 gene in the case group was significantly reduced compared to the control group (P = 0.035). MCP-1 gene expression was also decreased compared to the control group, but this decrease was not significant. Therefore, those who used this application for treatment had reduced expression of IL-8 and MCP-1 genes. This event indicates that this application has reduced the amount of inflammation caused by endometriosis with proper analysis.

Abstract Background Early diagnosis and treatment of neurosyphilis is of great significance for regression. There is no gold standard for the diagnosis of neurosyphilis. We did this study to explore the factors associated with the clinical diagnosis of neurosyphilis and assess their accuracy for the diagnosis of neurosyphilis. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 100 cases of syphilis patients who underwent lumbar puncture at a major dermatology hospital in Guangzhou, China between April 2013 and November 2016. Fifty patients who were clinically diagnosed with neurosyphilis were selected as case group. Control group consisted of 50 general syphilis patients who were matched with age and gender. The records of patients were reviewed to collect data of socio-demographic information, clinical symptom, and laboratory indicators. Multivariable logistic regression was used to explore diagnostic indictors, and ROC analysis was used to assess diagnostic accuracy. Results Neurological symptoms (odds ratio (OR) = 59.281, 95% CI:5.215–662.910, P = 0.001), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TPPA) titer (OR = 1.004, 95% CI:1.002–1.006, P < 0.001), CSF protein (OR = 1.005, 95% CI:1.000–1.009, P = 0.041), and CSF white blood cell (WBC) (OR = 1.120, 95% CI:1.017–1.233, P = 0.021) were found to be statistically associated with neurosyphilis. In ROC analysis, CSF TPPA titer had a sensitivity of 90%, a specificity of 84%, and an area under curve (AUC) of 0.941. Conclusion CSF TPPA can potentially be considered as an alternative test for diagnosis of neurosyphilis. Combining with neurological symptoms, CSF protein, CSF WBC, the diagnosis would have a higher sensitivity.

Female homicides are widely prevalent in Turkey with rising trend. The aim of this study is to identify gender role attitudes, childhood trauma histories, and individual characteristics of men who have been involved in the femicide, and to compare them with men who do not exercise violence against women. Participants completed a Sociodemographic and Clinical Information form, Semistructured Interview form, and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Case group was not significantly different than the control group in terms of any measured individual characteristics including childhood traumas, psychopathology, and gender attitudes. Our data indicate that only migration history may be linked to femicide. A unique psychopathology that could be related to being a femicide perpetrator was not identified. Migration and perception of gender roles stand out as factors that separate men who exercise violence from men who do not.

Microarray analysis was used to compare the gene expression of granulosa cells from dominant follicles with that of those after superstimulatory treatment. Cows were allocated randomly to two groups (superstimulation and control, n=6/group). A new follicular wave was induced by ablation of follicles ≥5 mm in diameter, and a progesterone-releasing device controlled internal drug release (CIDR) was placed in the vagina. The superstimulation group was given eight doses of 25 mg FSH at 12-h intervals starting from the day of wave emergence (day 0), whereas the control group was not given FSH treatment. Both groups were given prostaglandin F2α twice, 12 h apart, on day 3 and the CIDR was removed at the second injection; 25 mg porcine luteinizing hormone (pLH) was given 24 h after CIDR removal, and cows were ovariectomized 24 h later. Granulosa cells were collected for RNA extraction, amplification, and microarray hybridization. A total of 190 genes were downregulated and 280 genes were upregulated. To validate the microarray results, five genes were selected for real-time PCR (NTS, FOS, THBS1, FN1, and IGF2). Expression of four genes increased significantly in the three different animals tested (NTS, FOS, THBS1, and FN1). The upregulated genes are related to matrix remodeling (i.e. tissue proliferation), disturbance of angiogenesis, apoptosis, and oxidative stress response. We conclude that superstimulation treatment i) results in granulosa cells that lag behind in maturation and differentiation (most of the upregulated genes are markers of the follicular growth stage), ii) activates genes involved with the NFE2L2 oxidative stress response and endoplasmic reticulum stress response, and iii) disturbs angiogenesis.

Background: Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by distortions in thinking, perception, emotions, language, self-sense, and behavior. Recent research suggests that Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Studies have also shown the increased plasma and serum levels of the Trx1 molecule in schizophrenia patients. In the present study, the researchers compared the expression levels of Trx1 mRNA in peripheral blood leukocytes of Iranian schizophrenia patients compared to healthy controls. Methods: First-episode patients (n=35) who met DSM-IV criteria for schizophrenia were recruited from patients referred to psychiatrists in the city of Ilam and Farabi Hospital in Kermanshah. Healthy people were also selected by recruiting people who, according to a psychiatrist, did not have any mental illness. Diagnoses were made for each patient by two independent experienced psychiatrists and confirmed by the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID). Patients were treated with risperidone for three months and then compared with thirty- five healthy volunteers. Patients were sampled before and after treatment and then by RNA Extraction and DNA synthesis, Trx1 gene expression was performed by real-time PCR method. Results: Comparison of Trx1 gene expression in PBMCs of schizophrenic patients before and after treatment with the control group showed that the expression of Trx1 gene of the “before” treatment group was significantly increased compared with that of the control group (P= 0.0007). Also, Trx1 gene expression in PBMCs of “before” and “after “groups showed that Trx1 gene expression of “after” group was significantly decreased compared to the “before” group (P= 0.014). These results showed that the mean of positive, negative, and general psychopathology was reduced significantly in schizophrenic patients before and after treatment in all three cases (P <0.001). Conclusion: the expression of TRX in PBMCs of schizophrenic patients decreased after risperidone treatment. This reduction of expression was statistically significant and indicates the possible effect of risperidone on the expression of the TRX gene in PBMCs of these patients and decreased gene expression is associated with reduced symptoms. Confirmation of the achievement of this study requires further research. Key words: Schizophrenia, Thioredoxin, Risperidone

Background and Objective.Bisphenol A (BPA) is an abundantly used xenoestrogenic chemical which may cause various disorders in body. In the present study, we sought to investigate the effects of various doses of BPA on hepatic oxidative stress-related gene expression in rats.Methods.Male Wistar rats weighing 150–200 g were used in this study. Three doses of the BPA (5, 25, and 125 μg/kg) in corn oil were administered as gavage during 35 consecutive days. After the experiment, the rats were expired and the livers were removed and stored at −80°C freezer for RNA extraction.Findings.The Real Time PCR showed increased expression of HO-1 in the rats receiving BPA doses compared to the control group. This effect was dose-dependent and higher at doses of 25 and 125 μg/kg than 5 μg/kg of body weight (p<0.05). It was also demonstrated that various doses BPA can increase GADD45B gene expression compared to control group. That expression was significantly dominant in the lowest dose (5 μg/kg) of the BPA (p<0.05). The final body weights (168.0±10.0 gr) in the treatment group [BPA (125 μg/kg)] showed a significant decrease compared to control group (191.60±6.50 gr).Conclusion.These findings demonstrate that BPA generated ROS and increased the antioxidant gene expression that causes hepatotoxicity.

Introduction. Copper plays an important role in the metabolism of the brain, but particles of copper, in the nanometer range, exhibit neurotoxic properties and cause malfunctioning of brain cells. Material and methods. For 6 weeks, 3 times a week, the animals were injected with a suspension of NPs of copper oxide. The determination of the expression of the genes GRIN1, GRIN2a, and GRIN2b, encoding the proteins GluN1, GluN2a, and GluN2b, respectively, was carried out by real-time PCR with probes. Results. A statistically significant decrease in the expression level of genes encoding NMDA receptor proteins was determined when exposed to 0.5 mg/ml CuO nanoparticles (ΔCt(GRIN1) = 0.813; ΔCt(GRIN2A) = 3.477; ΔCt(GRIN2B) = 1.37) in comparison with control group (ΔCt(GRIN1) = 6.301; ΔCt(GRIN2A) = 7.823; ΔCt(GRIN2B) = 4.747). Conclusion. Evaluation of gene expression of the NMDA receptor may be present in a genetic marker to determine the toxic effect of copper oxide nanoparticles; however, further studies are needed, including behavioral tests to confirm the clinical manifestations of neurodegenerative disorders.

The aim of our study was to investigate the influence of LPA gene polymorphisms for CAD risk and Lp(a) in a case-control study of Chinese Han population. In addition, we further analyzed the effect of LPA gene expression on plasma levels of Lp(a) and CAD risk. First, five SNPs (rs1367211, rs3127596, rs6415085, rs9347438, and rs9364559) in LPA gene were genotyped using the SEQUENOM Mass-ARRAY system in two groups. Second, we used quantitative real-time PCR to examine the mRNA expression levels of LPA gene in 92 cases and 32 controls. Results showed that the frequency of rs6415085-T allele was significantly higher in case group than that in control group (P<0.05). Haplotypes were not associated with CAD risk (P>0.05). And cases with the TT/TG genotype had significantly higher plasma Lp(a) levels compared with those that have the rs6415085 GG genotype (P<0.05). Additionally, the mRNA expression levels in case group are significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Our study confirmed that rs6415085 was associated with CAD and increased plasma Lp(a) levels. And increased mRNA expression level of LPA gene may be a mechanism in development of CAD.

Dengue Shock Syndrome is a medical emergency situation caused by shocking DHF. Some factors that can influence the DSS. The purpose of this research know some risk factors that might cause DSS. Those are age, nutritional status, gender, and amount of platelet and hematocrit. This research was retrospective case control doing in dr. Soebandi Hospital Jember. The sample were divided into 2 groups. Those were DSS (case group) and non-DSS group (control group). Data analysis was done by Chi-Square test using SPSS 21 version. These were 136 patients which were divided into 94 patients of control group and 42 patients of case group. In this research, there were p-value for ages, nutritional status, gender, amount of platelet and hematocrit on each 0,450; 0,490; 0,198; 0,001; 0,007 respectively. In this search, it could be concluded that age, nutritional status, and gender were not significantly related to DSS case although amount of platelet and hematocrit were significantly related to DSS case.Keywords:dengue shock syndrome, age, nutritional status, gender, hematocrit, platelet.

Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) is shock syndrome that happened in dengue hemorrhagic fever patients. There are risk factors that cause DSS. One of them is overweight in children. This study aimed to determine the relationship between overweight and the occurence of DSS. This retrospective case control study conducted at the dr. Soebandi Hospital Jember. Sampels were divided into DSS group (case group) and non-DSS group (control group). To analyze the data, Chi-Square test was performed using SPSS version 21. Aa many as 191 patients were included in this study which consisted of 132 patients as the control group and 59 patients as the case group. Chi-square analysis showed the p-value was 0,649. In conclusion, overweight was not significantly associated as a risk factor of DSS in children at the dr. Soebandi hospital.

Abstract Background Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most common types of the cardiovascular diseases, previous pilot trials suggested that Traditional Chinese Medicine brought clinical benefits for patients with CAD. We will conduct this trial to determine the efficacy and safety of Shenzhu Guanxin Recipe Granules for treatment of patients with coronary artery disease. Patients and Methods This randomized controlled trial recruited 190 patients who were diagnosed CAD by clinical manifestations and examinations, in which coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) showed 50-70% of stenosis, with soft or mixed plaque. The included participants were randomly assigned to the case group and control group with a 1:1 allocation ratio; patients in the case group received SGR and usual care, and those in the control group received placebo (6 g/day for 6 months) and usual care. The endpoint of the study included calcium coverage score (CCS), C-Reactive protein (CRP), and the levels of blood lipids, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and ATP-binding membrane cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) were calculated before recruiting at6th month. The indicators were Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ) and TCM syndrome questionnaire scores at 0th, 3rd, and 6th months. Discussion This clinical trial may provide a reliable evidence regarding the clinical effectiveness and safety of SGR therapy for patients with CAD by clinical manifestations and examinations, in which coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) showed 50-70% of stenosis, with soft or mixed plaque.
