The aim of this study was to compare forgiveness in secure and insecure Iranian married couples. Whether marriage had occurred within the family (consanguine) or not (non-consanguine) was also considered. 400 married participants completed the Family Forgiveness Scale and the Adult Attachment Questionnaire. Analysis of reported forgiveness within the marital family showed that, although there was no significant difference between secure and insecure participants in overall forgiveness, secure participants rated “reparation” and “resolution” higher, whereas insecure participants rated “realization” and “recognition” higher. Comparing the experience of forgiveness in the family of origin, securely attached couples not only reported significantly more overall forgiveness but reported more “realization” and “resolution” while forgiving. Some interesting sex differences were also found, as individuals in consanguine vs non-consanguine couples differed in mean “recognition” in the forgiveness process.

The aim of this article is to explore the relationship between marital satisfaction and family-of-origin factors amongst couples with children. Locke and Wallace’s Marital Adjustment Test and the McMaster Family Assessment Device were used to measure marital satisfaction and family of-origin factors respectively. Family-of-origin factors, such as problem solving, communication, roles, affective involvement and behavioural control were investigated. The sample consisted of 47 married couples. A significant relationship was found between roles and affective responsive- ness as family-of-origin factors and marital satisfaction, while roles as a family-of-origin factor played an important role in the wife as well as her husbands’ marital satisfaction. The findings emphasise the importance of functioning in the family-of-origin as a potential determinant of future marital satisfaction.OpsommingDie doel van hierdie artikel is om die verwantskap tussen huweliks-bevrediging en gesin-vanoorsprong- faktore onder pare met kinders te ondersoek. The general demographic picture of the Vojvodina family was analyzed according to the 2002 population census. The prevailing family type is a married couple with children. In relation to the previous census, there has been an increase of single-parent families. The family in Vojvodina is ethnically homogeneous. Families with secondary education of both men and women are dominant, except in the type of married couples without children where the woman is mainly with uncompleted primary school. Family structure according to activities varies according to type of family unit, where there is birth differentiation as well. The most frequent families are those without children in which the woman is supported, and the man works. As regards families with children, the most frequent units are those in which both woman and man are active and working, but families in which only the man works are dominant.

In the contemporary world family still constitutes a superior value, but on the other hand, is subject to influences of many destabilizing factors that may disturb its appropriate functioning. “A child gets to know the world, own self, the others and life objectives directly experiencing such aspects of life within own family, as a family brings up through the presence of its members remaining with each other in a relation of love and kindness” (Kukułowicz, 2004). One of the basic functions of the family is socialisation that means “transmitting knowledge regarding the surrounding world, cultural heritage and preparation to fulfil adult social roles addressed to the offspring. The primary socialisation takes place within the family circle, where <…> an individual becomes a member of the society by internalisation and generalisation of the most overall meanings thanks to the mediation of those taking care of such individual” (Kawula, 2007). The children brought up in an orphanage are subject to a specific socialisation, located in the borderland of the functioning in an institution and the family of origin. The process of becoming independent reflects such type of socialisation.

The problem of sterile marriage provides great importance throughout the world. Infertility is a condition that is accompanied by a number of diseases of the genital organs and systemic diseases of the male or female organism. According to various literary sources, about 50–100 million people suffer from infertility in the world, that is, one out of 5–7 couples of reproductive age suffers from infertility. The problem of infertility in marriage is of particular importance in the context of the demographic crisis in Ukraine, where the frequency of infertile marriage among married couples of reproductive age is 10,0–15,0 %, and in some regions this indicator is close to 20,0 %. In Ukraine, there are more than 1 million infertile married couples, the male factor in the structure of infertility is about 40-50 % of cases. Most authors point to the polyetiology of male infertility. In its development, a significant role is assigned to such factors as neuropsychic, infectious toxic, congenital and genetic reasons, exogenous and habitual intoxications, ionizing radiation, dysfunctions of the endocrine glands and other internal organs, exposure to temperatures, vascular disorders, damage to the genital organs and their autoimmune lesions. Infertility is a complex and multifaceted problem, and there are a lot of different questions which need to solve. Particular difficulties arise in determining the treatment tactics in cases where there is a combination of various causes of infertility in a married couple. Opportune examination of partners with using modern hardware, laboratory and genetic methods is very important, and it allows to prescribe an effective treatment. The use of reproductive technologies significantly expands the possibilities for solving the problem of infertility. However, their main purpose is the birth of a child; treatment of diseases that have led to infertility requires additional efforts. In this regard, the development of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of sterile marriage remains one of the actual problems.
