Abstract Developed in Japan, 5S is a system of organizing workplace for efficiency, effectiveness and safety. Is 5s important? The answer is: “YES”, because the implementation is about empowering employees to control their work area and create an environment where they want to work every day. It is a program that only works with grass roots level engagement. With commitment to safety, we are equally committed to 5S to ensure a safe place to work. It enabled us to indicate where waste was occurring and thus improve the work area sustainably. We recognized real problems, found solutions and ultimately we were successful in our endeavors. Throughout different companies, various words of similar meaning are used. No matter what specific words are used to identify the steps in 5S, the purpose remains the same: create a clean, organized and efficient work environment.

PT. XYZ is a company engaged in wood processing. The product produced is plywood according to customer demand. After observing the production floor, several problems were found, namely that there was unused equipment in the work area. This equipment is equipment that is damaged or is not used. Besides, the cleanliness of the production floor is also poorly maintained where there is still dirt and dust. This study aims to identify problems related to waste on the production floor and design and propose the 5S method to create an effective work environment. The method used in this study uses the 5S concept approach (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke). 5S assessment is carried out using the audit checklist and evaluation checklist. The audit checklist and evaluation checklist are filled out by an auditor who knows clearly how the actual conditions on the production floor are. Data were collected in five work areas, namely rotary, press dryer, repair, assembling, and packing. The results of this study can be concluded that 1) problems on the production floor of PT XYZ include: there is no written procedure for elimination, there is no label on the work area, there is no regular cleaning, employees do not understand 5s, there are no procedures and 5s standards, there is no audit regarding 5s, there is no visual management system and standard procedures regarding 5s, lots of garbage scattered, dirty work surfaces and difficult to clean, everyone is not involved in 5s activities; 2) The results of the 5S assessment before improvement were 37.78% in the bad category. After planning the implementation of the improvement, the score rose to 80% in the good category

Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have proven to be a powerful tool for solving a wide variety of real-life problems. The possibility of using them for forecasting phenomena occurring in nature, especially weather indicators, has been widely discussed. However, the various areas of the world differ in terms of their difficulty and ability in preparing accurate weather forecasts. Poland lies in a zone with a moderate transition climate, which is characterized by seasonality and the inflow of many types of air masses from different directions, which, combined with the compound terrain, causes climate variability and makes it difficult to accurately predict the weather. For this reason, it is necessary to adapt the model to the prediction of weather conditions and verify its effectiveness on real data. The principal aim of this study is to present the use of a regressive model based on a unidirectional multilayer neural network, also called a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), to predict selected weather indicators for the city of Szczecin in Poland. The forecast of the model we implemented was effective in determining the daily parameters at 96% compliance with the actual measurements for the prediction of the minimum and maximum temperature for the next day and 83.27% for the prediction of atmospheric pressure.

There is no doubt that the fourth-order King’s family is one of the important ones among its counterparts. However, it has two major problems: the first one is the calculation of the first-order derivative; secondly, it has a linear order of convergence in the case of multiple roots. In order to improve these complications, we suggested a new King’s family of iterative methods. The main features of our scheme are the optimal convergence order, being free from derivatives, and working for multiple roots (m≥2). In addition, we proposed a main theorem that illustrated the fourth order of convergence. It also satisfied the optimal Kung–Traub conjecture of iterative methods without memory. We compared our scheme with the latest iterative methods of the same order of convergence on several real-life problems. In accordance with the computational results, we concluded that our method showed superior behavior compared to the existing methods.

Some of industrial and real life problems are difficult to be solved by traditional methods, because they need exponential number of calculations. As an example, we can mention decision-making problems. They can be defined as optimization problems. Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is between the best methods, that solves combinatorial optimization problems. The method mimics behavior of the ants in the nature, when they look for a food. One of the algorithm parameters is called pheromone, and it is updated every iteration according quality of the achieved solutions. The intuitionistic fuzzy (propositional) logic was introduced as an extension of Zadeh’s fuzzy logic. In it, each proposition is estimated by two values: degree of validity and degree of non-validity. In this paper, we propose two variants of intuitionistic fuzzy pheromone updating. We apply our ideas on Multiple-Constraint Knapsack Problem (MKP) and compare achieved results with traditional ACO.

AbstractLearning is a complex phenomenon. Contemporary theories of education underline active participation of learners in their learning processes. One of the key arguments supporting this approach is the learner’s simultaneous and unconscious development of their ability of “learning to learn”. This ability belongs to the soft skills highly valued by employers today.For Mathematics Education, it means that teachers have to go beyond making calculations and memorizing formulas. We have to teach the subject in its social context. When the students start understanding the relationship between real-life problems and the role of numbers and formulas for their solutions, their learning becomes a part of their tacit knowledge. Below we explain the theoretical background of our approach and provide examples of such activities.

Objectives: The goal of this study is twofold: (1) identifying design strategies that enhance efficiency and support teamwork in emergency departments (EDs) and (2) identifying design features that contribute to the spread of COVID-19, based on staff perception. Background: Due to increasing ED visits annually, an efficient work environment has become one of the main concerns in designing EDs. According to the literature, an efficient work environment and teamwork improve healthcare outcomes and positively impact staff satisfaction. During the COVID-19 pandemic, EDs faced various changes such as workflow and space usage. Few studies explored staff perceptions about the influence of design features on efficiency, teamwork, and the COVID-19 spread. Method: An online survey with 14 open- and closed-ended questions was distributed among ED staff members to collect data about unit design features that impact efficiency, teamwork, and the COVID-19 spread. Results: The central nursing station was one of the preferred configurations that increased efficiency and teamwork in EDs. Decentralizing disposal rooms in small-size EDs and decentralizing the medication room in large-size EDs with more than 65 exam rooms can decrease staff walking steps. Flexibility to expand treatment spaces on demand, one-way track circulation path, and changing the air pressure in COVID-19 treatment areas were some of the staff suggestions for future EDs. Conclusion: The findings of this study contribute to the body of knowledge that EDs’ physical environments can impact efficiency and teamwork among staff and, consequently, healthcare outcomes. Compartmentalization of the ED layout can reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Discrete time alternating renewal process is a very simple tool that permits solving many real life problems. This paper, after the presentation of this tool, introduces the compound environment in the alternating process giving a systematization to this important tool. The claim costs for a temporary disability insurance contract are presented. The algorithm and an example of application are also provided.
