<p>The effect of a dual tire pressure on the design parameters of thick asphalt pavements using finite element freeware EverStressFE©1.0 is evaluated. This is trying to represent more adjusted the footprint shape and intensity of stress generated by the tires of vehicles. To validate the elastic multilayer EverStress©5.0 software was used. The results of the deformations can be concluded that the asphalt pavement designs made with analytical methods may be slightly oversized and consequently increase the cost of construction of pavements. This study marks a route to analyze the sensitivity of various factors that may affect the design of asphalt pavements. Future research is expected to integrate dynamic conditions by introducing results of field tests to full scale.</p>

The development of fan-out packaging technology for fine-pitch and high-pin-count applications is a hot topic in semiconductor research. To reduce the package footprint and improve system performance, many applications have adopted packaging-on-packaging (PoP) architecture. Given its inherent characteristics, glass is a good material for high-speed transmission applications. Therefore, this study proposes a fan-out wafer-level packaging (FO-WLP) with glass substrate-type PoP. The reliability life of the proposed FO-WLP was evaluated under thermal cycling conditions through finite element simulations and empirical calculations. Considering the simulation processing time and consistency with the experimentally obtained mean time to failure (MTTF) of the packaging, both two- and three-dimensional finite element models were developed with appropriate mechanical theories, and were verified to have similar MTTFs. Next, the FO-WLP structure was optimized by simulating various design parameters. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the glass substrate exerted the strongest effect on the reliability life under thermal cycling loading. In addition, the upper and lower pad thicknesses and the buffer layer thickness significantly affected the reliability life of both the FO-WLP and the FO-WLP-type PoP.

In this study an attempt is made to predict displacements and stresses in face-hobbed spiral bevel gears by using the finite element method. A displacement type finite element method is applied with curved, 20-node isoparametric elements. A method is developed for the automatic finite element discretization of the pinion and the gear. The full theory of the generation of tooth surfaces of face-hobbed spiral bevel gears is applied to determine the nodal point coordinates on tooth surfaces. The boundary conditions for the pinion and the gear are set automatically as well. A computer program was developed to implement the formulation provided above. By using this program the influence of design parameters and load position on tooth deflections and fillet stresses is investigated. On the basis of the results, obtained by performing a big number of computer runs, by using regression analysis and interpolation functions, equations for the calculation of tooth deflections and fillet stresses are derived.

Abstract In this work we conduct a number of finite element simulations using the MEMCAD 5.0 system to evaluate the effect of various geometrical and process parameters on the Wheatstone bridge piezoresistive pressure sensor. In particular, results are presented for the following design parameters: the location of the resistors relative to the diaphragm edge; the angular orientation of the resistors; the planar dimensions of the resistors; and finally, the effects of dopant concentration profile and associated junction depth as computed by the limited-diffusion model.

Разработан алгоритм и проведена оценка прочности сборных твердосплавных элементов со сплошной и дискретной рабочими поверхностями. Получены зависимости, позволяющие установить связь между конструктивными параметрами сборных деформирующих инструментов и их прочностью. Выполнены прочностные расчеты деформирующего инструмента для обработки отверстий значительного диаметра со сплошной и дискретной рабочими поверхностями. Численным моделированием, методом конечных элементов получены распределения эквивалентных напряжений в элементах инструмента и контактных напряжений по поверхности контакта твердосплавная вставка-корпус, что позволило проанализировать прочность инструмента под нагрузкой. Определены конструктивные параметры инструмента и приведены алгоритмы последовательности расчета сборных деформирующих элементов (ДЭ). Разработан алгоритм последовательности расчета сборного ДЭ для дискретного протягивания. Предложенная конструкция сборного рабочего элемента позволяет не только улучшить обрабатываемость изделия резания, но и уменьшить расход остродефицитного твердого сплава по сравнению с твердосплавным ДЭ аналогичных размеров на 6 кг. Полученные результаты можно использовать в инженерных расчетах при проектировании сборного инструмента для дискретного деформирования, а также для оценки прочности сборных инструментов, например, фрез, зенкеров, разверток при уточнении внешних нагрузок We developed an algorithm and assessed the strength of prefabricated carbide elements with solid and discrete working surfaces. We obtained dependencies that make it possible to establish a relationship between the design parameters of prefabricated deforming tools and their strength. We performed strength calculations of the deforming tool for machining holes of significant diameter with solid and discrete working surfaces. We obtained the distributions of equivalent stresses in the elements of the tool and contact stresses over the contact surface of the hard-alloy insert - body by numerical modeling, by the finite element method, which made it possible to analyze the strength of the tool under load. We determined the design parameters of the tool and here we give algorithms for the sequence of calculation of prefabricated deforming elements (DE). We developed an algorithm for the sequence of calculating the prefabricated DE for discrete broaching. The proposed design of the prefabricated working element allows not only to improve the machinability of the cutting product but also to reduce the consumption of an acutely deficient hard alloy in comparison with a hard alloy DE of similar dimensions by 6 kg. The results obtained can be used in engineering calculations when designing a prefabricated tool for discrete deformation, as well as for assessing the strength of prefabricated tools, for example, cutters, countersinks, reamers when specifying external loads

Abstract The increase in public transportation in the last decade has resulted in a larger pedestrian population and hence a larger number of pedestrian collisions. In the past, car-pedestrian accident prevention had been a challenge for automotive and transport safety members. Recent reports in car-pedestrian accidents have influenced many improvements to prioritize pedestrian protection for automotive industries. The number of pedestrian fatalities in U.S has raised in last decade proportionally, Car manufacturers, and transport investigation teams are implementing new product designs and adding new development methods to reduce the risk of pedestrian collisions. In this study, adult headform and upper legform is tested with a finite element vehicle model to examine the simulation results and injury behavior during impact. All finite element simulation tests are produced under Euro-NCAP Committee regulations. Finite element models are configured as per the regulation’s and testing criteria. Both upper legform impactor and adult headform finite simulation results are tested with assessing criteria limits. Finite simulation tests are carried on the LS-DYNA – Code platform. This comparative study between sedan and pickup finite vehicle models gives an injury risk prediction of pedestrian safety and assesses design parameters of automotive industries.

The ability to perform and evaluate the effect of shape changes on the stress, modal and thermal response of components is an important ingredient in the ‘design’ of aircraft engine components. The classical design of experiments (DOE) based approach that is motivated from statistics (for physical experiments) is one of the possible approaches for the evaluation of the component response with respect to design parameters [1]. Since the underlying physical model used for the component response is deterministic and understood through a computer simulation model, one needs to re-think the use of the classical DOE techniques for this class of problems. In this paper, we explore an alternate sensitivity analysis based technique where a deterministic parametric response is constructed using exact derivatives of the complex finite-element (FE) based computer models to design parameters. The method is based on a discrete sensitivity analysis formulation using semi-automatic differentiation [2,3] to compute the Taylor series or its Pade equivalent for finite element based responses. Shape design or optimization in the context of finite element modeling is challenging because the evaluation of the response for different shape requires the need for a meshing consistent with the new geometry. This paper examines the differences in the nature and performance (accuracy and efficiency) of the analytical derivatives approach against other existing approaches with validation on several benchmark structural applications. The use of analytical derivatives for parametric analysis is demonstrated to have accuracy benefits on certain classes of shape applications.
