The aim of this work was to determine the impact of etomidate (Propiscin) dose (1 and 2 ml l−1) and exposure time (2 and 10 min) on the biochemical and haematological parameters of juvenile pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) [mean body length (Lc) 25.9 cm; body weight (W) 189.9 g] that were reared in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Significant changes in the mean values of total protein, globulin, calcium, magnesium, and ammonia were noted in all groups immediately following exposure. The greatest changes in the haematological indicators were observed in groups subjected to 10-min exposure at both doses of the anaesthetic. The specimens from these groups had higher values for white blood cells (WBC), red blood cells (RBC), haemoglobin (HGB), haematocrit (HCT), and mean corpuscular volume (MCV). Statistically significant differences in these same parameters were also noted in the groups of fish exposed to the anaesthetic for 2 min at a dose of 2 ml l−1, but they were not as pronounced. Twenty-four h following exposure to etomidate, all blood parameters in the experimental groups were comparable to those of the control group. Etomidate can be recommended as a safe, effective anaesthetic for pikeperch.

The aim of the experiment was to evaluate the impact of selenium supplementation on white blood cell parameters in the blood of ewes. The total white blood cell (WBC) and differentiation of leukocytes in blood smear were detected by a microscopic analysis, and the CD4<sup>+</sup> and CD8<sup>+</sup> subsets were detected by flow cytometry. A decrease in the count of WBC was recorded during pregnancy; it was statistically significant only in the group supplemented with organic selenium. In the postpartal period there was a statistically significant increase in the percentages of CD4<sup>+</sup> and CD8<sup>+</sup> subsets but differences between the groups were not statistically significant. The results of the experiment documented that the supplementation of different forms of selenium did not markedly influence the dynamics of blood parameters in non-pregnant, pregnant and lactating ewes if the intake of vitamins and other essential microelements was adequate.

Background: Anemia of chronic disease (ACD) occurs in the presence of chronic infection, inflammatory conditions or neoplastic conditions despite of adequate iron and vitamins storage. Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gingiva, periodontitis is the inflammation in the periodontium that extend deeper with loss of connective tissue attachment and supporting bone. The main pathogenesis of periodontal diseases and ACD is immune activation. Aims of study: Determine and compare the clinical periodontal parameters (plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment level (CAL)). Evaluate the hematocrit (Hct) level, red blood cells (RBCs) count and white blood cells (WBCs) count. Assess the correlations between the clinical periodontal parameters and hematological parameters at patients had gingivitis, chronic periodontitis (CP) with different severities (mild, moderate and severe) with healthy periodontium subjects. Materials and Methods: 35-50 years old, 150 male subjects were included in this study. They were divided into three study groups: group of 30 patients with gingivitis, group of 90 patients with CP which subdivided into (Mild CP=30 patients, Moderate CP =30 patients, Severe CP =30 patients) and control group 30 subjects with clinically healthy periodontium. Blood samples were collected then by automated blood analyzer the Hct, RBCs and WBCs were evaluated. Results: Comparisons among groups and subgroups revealed significant differences in Hct and WBCs, while RBCs was non-significant. Means values of RBCs count showed reduction in mild and severe CP subgroups. while, the Hct and WBCs mean values increased in patients with periodontal disease. The correlations between the clinical periodontal parameters with WBCs and RBCs were almost non-significant but, with Hct was mostly significant negative correlations. Conclusion: Inflammatory and immune responses in periodontal diseases caused change in different hematologic parameters which could contribute to the development of anemia of chronic disease.

The influence of a complex of traditional qigong exercises, used in conjunction with classical methods of physical education, has been investigated in order to identify trends in changes in the indicators of general physical condition, to monitor a number of medical tests (general blood test, biochemical blood test, pulse, pressure). The work involved 619 (six hundred and nineteen) students of male main groups, of which 550 people were the experimental group and 69 were the control group. Scientific work was carried out on the basis of the Ufa State Petroleum Technical University in an annual period, from September 21, 2019 to February 20, 2020. The purpose of this study is to study the influence of this technique on increasing the level of the functional state of students, improving the process of physical education, the impact on the health of USPTU students attending classes. A similar study was described in his scientific publications by V.V. Vinantova (1996) and L.R. Kalimullina (2005). Yu.A. Petrova in her works (1992) noted that the volume of circulating blood, its components and the total number of hemoglobin increases in students under the influence of training. Metabolism is at the forefront of the changes that occur as a result of exercise. Accompanied by the released energy and the synthesis of ATP, the rate of catabolic processes in the body increases [1, 2]. The concentration of blood corpuscles increases when part of the plasma leaves the vascular bed and goes into the intercellular fluid due to physical exertion. First of all, this applies to red blood cells that transport oxygen. Under such conditions, the same volume of blood is able to carry more oxygen to working muscles [3]. The disadvantage of reducing plasma volume is an increase in blood viscosity, which makes it difficult for the heart to work. At the end of the 19th century, an increase in the number of leukocytes in the blood after exercise was found - myogenic leukocytosis. A.P. Egorov in his works (1926) showed that myogenic leukocytosis is accompanied by an increase in the number of white blood cells. The last phase may be accompanied by a sharp increase or a sharp decrease in the number of leukocytes to the physiology of the norm [4]. A change in the level of lymphocytes in the blood due to physical activity can be defined as one of the prognostic signs showing the level of adaptation of the body to physical activity

This study was performed to know the effect of ammonia on the blood picture and the weight of common carp fish. 50 fish were used at the age of 6 months and were divided into two groups. Each group included 25 fish. The first group represented the treatment group with ammonia at a concentration of 1.0 mg/ L. and the second group represented control group. It is grown in plastic basins with dimensions of 1.5 × 2 meters and continued treatment for four weeks. It was observed that the weight in the ammonium treatment group had the lowest significant value (p≤0.05) compared to the control group. It was also observed in this study that the ammonia group had the lowest significant values in (white blood cells, red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration and Packed cell volume) compared with control group. As for the biochemical parameters, it was observed that the Glucose concentration and each of the enzymes Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) and Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) had a record the highest value in the group treated with ammonia compared with the control group while the total protein recorded the lowest significant value in the group treated with ammonia Compared to control group. We conclude from this study that increasing the concentration of ammonia in the aquatic environment has a negative impact on fish breeding and health.

Objective: To study the impact of intervention on the reduction of white blood cells (WBC) in the management of infection in patients with pneumonia in Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hospital period July through September 2019. Method: This three-month analytical prospective cohort study analyzed the reduction of WBC in the management of infection in pneumonia patients (n=42) before and after intervention in USU hospital. A self-designed questionair was used to assess the patients characterics, the required laboratory data including WBC, and length of stay (LOS). The base-line data were assessed after three days of treatment. The data with  intervetion were assessed between July - September 2019. The Patients characteristics and drug utilization were analyzed descriptively. The levels of WBC before and after interventions were compared using paired samples t test (p < 0.05) was considered significant. Results: Characteristics of the pneumonia patients: male, 61.9%; female, 38.1%. The mean age of patients with pneumonia was 60.48 ± 14.76 years. The most widely used antibiotic was ceftriaxone as much as 48%. There was a significant difference in reduction of WBC between patients with pneumonia before and after intervention, p= 0.002. Conclusions: Intervention can significantly increase the treatment of infection in patients with pneumonia.

The aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate of white blood cells ratios in patients with ACS in association with arterial hypertension and 2 type Diabetes Mellitus. Material and Methods: In this observational cohort trial we observed of 184 patients with ACS. All patients were randomized into four groups: 1st group – 42 patients with ACS without AH or DM; 2nd group – 56 patients with ACS and previous AH; 3rd group – 42 patients with ACS and 2 type DM; and 4th group – 44 patients with ACS and AH and DM. We studied of leukocytes count and their subpopulation ratios: neutrophils to lymphocytes ratio (NLR), neutrophils to monocytes ratio (NMR), neutrophils to lymphocytes+monocytes ratio (N/LMR), lymphocytes to monocytes ratio (NMR). Results: The mean white blood cells count was significant higher in patients with ASC, compared with control group (p<0.001). In patients with ACS the elevated NMR and NLR were observed: 15.04±1.28 vs 11.09±0.43 in control group (p<0.05), and 3.34±0.20 vs 2.60±0.06 (p<0.05), respectively. No significant differences between WBC ratios were revealed in observed patients with ACS with or without AH and/or DM. Conclusion: ACS is characterized of raised NLR and NMR which could be indicators of poor prognosis

The anesthetic effects of two chemical compounds, lidocaine and sodium bicarbonate, and two natural compounds, clove and thyme extracts, were examined on the Red Blood Cells (RBC), White Blood Cells (WBC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, and blood cortisol levels of Grass carp at two times of 10 minutes and 24 hours after anesthesia. RBC counts had no significant increase in the samples of 10 min and 24 h after induction of anesthesia with clove extract only compared to the control group (p > 0.05). The number of WBC increased significantly in the samples from 10 min and 24 h after anesthesia with sodium bicarbonate only and it was not different from control samples in other treatments 24 h after anesthesia. The amount of hemoglobin indicated an increase with all treatments compared to the control in 10 min after anesthesia. The increases were not significant in thyme and clove extract (P > 0.05). Samples treated at 24h after anesthesia exhibited non statistical hemoglobin elevations with thyme extract only. Hematocrit increased significantly in the samples from 10 min after anesthesia with lidocaine and sodium bicarbonate but, at 24h after anesthesia, hematocrit amount with thyme and clove extracts and lidocaine treatments were not different from the control significantly (P > 0.05). Also, Cortisol level was significantly higher in both sampling times for lidocaine and sodium bicarbonate treatments than the control group. Accordingly, the use of natural anesthetics (thyme and clove extracts) will result in better outcomes than the synthetic compounds (sodium bicarbonate and lidocaine) in the Grass carp.

The tiger (Panthera tigris) is an endangered species. The health of individuals is important and any data on hematological and biochemical blood values can provide valuable information; when combined with physical assessment. This data assists in both the diagnosis of disease and some conservation strategies. The behavior of wild tigers makes it is extremely difficult to obtain biological samples from free-living subjects, therefore, data collected from captive tigers is highly valuable. The aim of this study was to provide additional information for the values of hematological and serum biochemical parameters in healthy captive tigers. Blood samples were collected from 22 clinically healthy tigers (Panthera tigris). The following parameters were analyzed: glucose, urea, creatinine, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total protein (TP) and red blood cells (RBCs), hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct) and red cell indices; such as mean cell volume (MCV), mean cell Hb (MCH), mean cell Hb concentration (MCHC), platelet (PLT) and white blood cells (WBCs). The mean hematological values in our tiger population were not significantly different when compared with the same parameters in the previously studied tiger population. The mean values of RBCs and PLT were statistically significantly higher and the mean values of Hb, PCV, MCV, MCH, MCHC, and WBC were lower than the mean values obtained in previous studies on the Amur tiger. Further investigation of captive and free-living tigers is needed to identify the normal ranges for parameters in this endangered species.

Background: Irradiation leads to increased storage lesions that may have harmful effects if transfused. Various storage lesions research has been carried out, and only very few articles are available on the impact of gamma irradiation on RBC storage lesions. Since there has been no study about finding the best time for irradiation, we decided to investigate the effect of irradiation on Red blood cells at different storage times after blood collection Materials and Methods: A total of 40 units of red blood cells divided into two groups, irradiated and nonirradiated. Irradiated RBCs were divided into three groups and each group containing ten units. The remaining ten units were considered as non-irradiated controls. Sampling from these irradiated and non-irradiated blood units was performed weekly to evaluate biochemical parameters and free plasma hemoglobin/Hemolysis index levels. Results: A significant increase in the mean values of plasma potassium, plasma Hb/Hemolysis index, and LDH, as well as a significant reduction in the mean value of 2,3 DPG and plasma sodium, were observed in both groups. Although the reduction of 2,3 DPG is extremely remarkable, it is compensated 24-48 hours after transfusion. Hence, the clinical result of 2,3-DPG-depleted RBC transfusion is known to be negligible. The irradiation group alteration was more notable than the non-irradiated one and the changes in the parameters were most significant in the group having been stored for a longer period after irradiation. Conclusion: Our investigation on the impact of gamma irradiation on RBCs makes it possible to suggest a storage time up to 28 days after irradiation is permissible and the best time for irradiation after blood collection is up to 14 days. It is pointed out that the blood unit should be transfused as soon as possible after the irradiation.

The article reflects the results of changes in the biochemical and morphological parameters of blood, as well as the content of total protein and its fractions under the influence of immunostimulators in black-and-white cows and calves obtained from them. The aim of the study was to study the effect of the immunostimulators “Recombinant Bovine Interferon” and “Immunate” on the morphological and immunobiochemical blood parameters of pregnant cows and newborn calves. Studies were conducted on 45 pregnant cows divided into three groups based on the principle of analogues, and, subsequently, on 45 calves obtained from mother cows and divided into nine groups. Maternal cows during pregnancy and newborn calves were given immunostimulators in various combinations. In the blood of cows of the experimental groups, five days before calving, higher indicators of red blood cells and hemoglobin were registered in comparison with the control indicators. Also, in experimental cows, the content of total protein and globulins exceeded the indicators of the control group. Calves received from cows immunostimulated with “Recombinant Bovine Interferon” and who were given “Immunate” after birth had the smallest decrease in the number of red blood cells and white blood cells on the tenth day. After drinking colostrum in calves of experimental groups, the total amount of protein increased, especially there was an increase in the gamma-globulin fraction. For all periods of the study, the content of immunoglobulins A, M, G in the blood serum of calves of the control group was lower than that of calves of the experimental groups. The maximum difference between these indicators and the control was found in animals of the sixth and ninth groups.
