The article is an attempt to present the semantics of marble in the sacred Polish sculpture of Romanticism. Taking as its starting point the modern theory of art, it first emphasizes the special role of white marble in modern sculptural theory and practice, and then outlines the foundation of this judgment in the art of the classicist era, especially in the theory of J.J. Winckelmann. Together with the spread of classical tastes, the significance of this view for Polish modern sculpture is shown, in which, in accordance with Winckelmann’s taste, white marble was perceived as the noblest raw material, worthy of the images of the gods. In the Romantic era, following G. W. Hegel, marble was regarded as “spiritual” stone, the most suitable for the depiction of the sacred. This was expressed in the theory and practice of sculpture by such artists as Cyprian Norwid and Teofil Lenartowicz, who went to Rome – the capital of sacred art – to sculpt in this material. They were followed by other Polish sculptors who also went to Rome to work in marble. The article shows their struggles, which ended successfully only for T.O. Sosnowski. In his works, however, white marble from “animate” stone went on to become material suitable for making repetitive compositions in the spirit of Italian Purism. Marble evolved from being material suitable for the representation of gods to one used for commercial objects, which was perfectly illustrated by Norwid in his short story „Ad leones!”

In the context of an ever-increasing level of urbanization, the historical urban environment is one of the most studied phenomena in modern theory and practice of heritage conservation. The change in the paradigm of heritage that has taken place over the past decades and the recognition of man as one of the most important components of the heritage protection system contribute to the development of the legal apparatus and of new approaches to preserving cities. The article traces the relationship between the transformation of ideas about the value of an urbanized territory as an object of heritage and the evolution of its protection tools, reveals the role of various elements in maintaining the integrity of urban fabric based on analysis of international and Russian regulatory documents. The regular building is recognized as an element, which allows maintaining cultural identity and at the same time developing valuable characteristics of the historical environment, ensuring the invariability of the perceived image of the city. The historic centre of St. Petersburg, which has an internationally recognized architectural, urban and intangible (associative, memorial) values and is therefore inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is characterized by exceptional integrity and authenticity of the historical urban environment. These qualities require special and based on the principles of sustainability approaches to the development of the territory, which will ensure the maintenance of the integrity of the urban environment as an element of human environment.

In the time of the 4th Industrial Revolution was introduced the sustainable model of car sharing. People began to realise the costs of owning and suboptimal use of cars, real estate and other goods. Innovative companies have started to promote services based on an economy of sharing, which has led to a change in the culture of ownership of goods. The first applications of the sharing economy were observed in durable goods such as cars and housing. In this article, we will focus on the question of how successful a genuine car-sharing model is in Europe. According to theory, the car-sharing model provides an example of a sharing economy in which the starting point, rather than ownership of an asset, is access to a service, which makes better use of the shared asset and makes it much cheaper to use and accessible to a wider range of people. The theory also emphasises the role of car sharing in urban environments, as it provides a sustainable environmental solution in the context of car electrification. In this way, such a model ensures that no harmful emissions are produced, and the sustainable aspect of this car-sharing model is further underlined by the use of electricity from renewable sources. However, the question is what the gap between theory and practice is. What do the citizens of European conurbations think about this business model, and how successful is it? To this end, we will use an automated content analysis procedure to analyse publications in scientific journals, newspapers and magazines.

The performing process is the creative process of reproducing musical material. The performer not only "deciphers" the meaning of the work laid down by the composer, but also creates new images in real time. In order to understand the composer's intention, the performer pianist should turn to the works of painting, literature, etc. The first place among related art forms that create a number of interdisciplinary analogues is rightfully given to literature: in literature, as well as in speech in general (colloquial speech, in this case, we consider as a material, "raw material" of literature), one of the leading expressive elements is intonation (remember the relevant research by B. Asafiev). Thanks to the synthesis of music, literature, painting, the performer assimilates an artistic image, which makes it possible to combine disparately fixed means of expression into a single emotional message. It is the integral emotional message that is the subject of the transfer of the artistic message from the addressee - the author of the music - to the addressee (listener). Therefore, on the part of the pianist called to convey this message, it is of great importance to pay attention to the components of this message, among which the most significant are: musical melody, as in the human language, consists of phrases and sentences. Some basic types of melody are distinguished: horizontal movement, upward movement, downward movement, wavy melody, melody with leaps. Harmony is an important element of the musical language. Along with painting, literature, music also cannot exist without a harmonic foundation. She gives variety and color, is responsible for the semantic and emotional load of the entire work. Rhythm is important. The existence of a piece of music is impossible without rhythm. We can find rhythm in literature in the form of proportionality of lines. It is impossible to imagine a piece of music without tempo. The tempo affects the character of the piece. If the tempo distorts the character of the music, then a mismatch of the musical image occurs. The tempo in speech can be different. It depends on the content of the statement. Dynamics play an important role in music. With its help, the form of the composition is built. Dynamics is able to divide the work into structural parts, as well as contribute to the development of thematic material. The dynamism of the plot is also found in literary works, where there is a constant change in the situation and states of the heroes. So, all the elements of the musical language are combined in the pianist's work. It should be noted the special role of interdisciplinary analogies: music does not exist by itself, analogs of many phenomena of musical speech can be seen both in colloquial speech and in its literary refraction. The presence of such analogs significantly expands the "field" of the pianist's creative activity from mono-timbral art to a complex interdisciplinary approach.

In homage to the work of Uroš Mozetič, the paper takes as its starting point previously developed suggestions about how the language of “Eveline” conveys a picture of the heroine as a passive, paralysed character. Using Hallidayan Systemic Functional Linguistics as a model of stylistic analysis, it investigates the contribution of both the ideational and the interpersonal metafunctions to the meaning of the text. The results extend and amend some ideas from the literature, such as the supposed prevalence of stative verbs, and suggest that while the short story as a whole predominantly uses material processes, their potential for change is mitigated by Joyce’s aspect, tense, and usuality choices. Eveline as the main character crucially has the role of a Senser, observing and internally reacting to the world around her, and even the processes in which she acts upon things and people are modalised and shown to be either hypothetical or instigated by others.

The article shows the role of the teacher in the development of students' research activities by combining theory with practice, since a future music teacher, along with a personal and creative position and pedagogical skill, should have competencies in assessing the ideas and approaches put forward by modern theory and practice of education. In professional training, this task can be successfully implemented when the student performs elements of research activities. In this context, it seems relevant to identify the features of research activities and its role in the formation of the personality of a future music teacher.

Health plays a special role both for societies and economies. Regardless of the level of development of health systems and respective expenditures, they are struggling with shortage of resources. In case of Poland, this phenomenon also concerns significant deficiencies in other areas, including personnel. In the light of inevitable and necessary changes, this poses a serious risk both to the health security of Poles and successful implementation of modernization plans. Research carried out by employees of the Warsaw School of Economics highlighted the possibility of solving this problem through the use and development of leadership competences. This article is a starting point for a discussion on the role of the leadership in the process of changes in healthcare system.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to focus on transformations in the advertising industry from the point of view of the role and position of account planners. It questions the current viability of account planning (AP) as a result of digital disruptions. Design/methodology/approach In total, 18 face-to-face responsive interviews were conducted among professionals who hold planning responsibilities at advertising agencies. A theoretical thematic analysis revealed five main themes which are associated with the disruption of AP roles. Findings The research points out that AP is a profession in transition as part of the advertising industry that is undergoing a major shift. Digital transformations have not yet crystallized in the business domain, and so this period is one of learning and adjustment. Research limitations/implications It is suggested for advertising practitioners, as well as marketing executives, to encourage AP departments to re-think the core significance of the AP department since the AP role needs to be repositioned or even redefined. Originality/value The current research has several significant implications for theory and practice: confronting the role of the strategist in advertising agencies vs digital strategy and Big Data; contributing to the understanding of the dynamics of AP transitional roles as a starting point for re-examination of the advertising creative process; and calling for more research exploring the relationship between agency adoption of digital tools and its approach to AP.

The following article concerns the functional use of horse bones in the early Middle Ages (mainly in the period from the mid of the 10th to the 12th/13th century). The authors try to explain how such remains were used and how common it was. It is also discussed whether the special role of the horse in medieval societies somehow restricted its post-mortem usage, or perhaps there was no difference between the skeletal remains of horses and other species in this regard. For this purpose, statistical calculations on the use of the bones of various mammals were made. Only the remains of the species determined during the archaeozoological analysis were taken into account. The specific use of individual parts of a horse skeleton was also noted. In addition, the analysis also encompasses all other types of horse remains that could be used by humans (hide, hair, etc.). The consumption of horse meat was discussed separately: on the basis of the preserved traces, an attempt was made to determine whether it had happened, and if so, how popular it had been. Overall, such comprehensive analysis aims to show the various roles of the horse. It was not only a mount, but also a beast of burden, a source of food and raw material as well. The main purpose of this study is to describe the role of horses in human medieval societies of Ostrów Tumski on the basis of accessible equid remains. The highlighting of the human–horse relationship in the past allows us to understand the importance and value of the horse both as a life companion and the source of food or leather and bone tools.

The theory and main characteristics of progressivism are studied in the paper. The starting point for research of progressive education is the analysis of its philosophical, psychological and ideological foundations. Numerous aspects of progressivism are discussed in that context: goals of education and learning, role of school, nature of knowledge and the choice of educational contents, viewpoints on instruction and learning, as well as the position of teachers and students in educational process. In this, the intention is not to analyze only the theory of progressivism, but also to point out its practical aspects by describing the work of schools which have largely accepted the progressive ideas from the first half of the twentieth century with the intention of their further development. In that sense, this paper is also an attempt of studying the application of progressive ideas in practice in contemporary education. It is concluded that, notwithstanding the amount of criticism coming from other schools of thought, progressivism in education was and has remained an important reformation movement. Open schools, schools without grades, cooperative learning, multi-generation grouping in classrooms, experiential learning and numerous programs of alternative schools are the examples of infiltration of progressive ideas in contemporary educational practice.
