A comprehensive analysis of the word тайна (“mystery”) and its image in Anna Akhmatova’s art demonstrates how insistently Akhmatova created an aura of mystery around her life. The intentional duality of her birth date; the modelling of the image of her childhood as a period when she became aware of her otherness; the legend of a precocious gift of vision and foresight, which is relevant to the image of Akhmatova’s persona (Cassandra – Moon Maiden – enchantress –Chingisidess) and is also associated with the main spheres of her poetry: antiquity, the magical power of poetry, and history. The article identifies the actualisation of “Akhmatova’s mystery” in different aspects: biographical, personally identificatory, and poetical proper. Rigorous linguistic analysis involving corpus-based data makes it possible to establish the special position the word тайна plays in Anna Akhmatova’s vocabulary and provide a justification of its status as an idioglossia. The word тайна in Akhmatova’s poems organizes a wide thematical and associative field around itself, whose units are frequently used and assume an individual significance. The poems contain all meanings of the lexeme тайна that are used in the language system, and all the lexical-semantic variants are consolidated by the seme “unknown information”. The invariant meaning of the word тайна is attributed to the opposition “knowledge – ignorance”. The semantic complex of the lexeme in poetry is also strengthened by the meaning “arcane knowledge, involvement in mystery, and reaching the truth”. It is established that the lexically invariable image of тайна, which can also be seen as a leitmotif, is found in all the themes conceptually significant for Akhmatova: destiny, art, and love. Only on one occasion is the image of mystery not marked by a word but instead grows out of the atmosphere of the poem, which is conterminous to secret fear and mystical terror. Secret as something irrational, inexplicably horrifying is almost certainly commonly found in poems about time and space, where the poet’s daily life takes place. The fear of enclosed space and swift-flowing time is empowered by life circumstances, in which the poet’s creative expression of will is materialised. This fear is born out of the primary knowledge of limits, beyond which a human being is not allowed to go. The analysis of the word тайна and its image in the poet’s art leads the authors to conclude that the externally austere, but internally counterintuitive harmony of Anna Akhmatova’s poetry is created along the fine line between the impermissible and the unrestricted, the secret and the explicit, the mystical and the rational.

Estudos Culturais. Teologia do Cotidiano. Arte Sequencial. Cultura Pop. The second idea refers to the theological activity while a faculty inherent to the human being. In this perspective, Rubem Alves expands his understanding of theology – usually understood as (academic) study on the deity, to a deeper existential human dimension of the seek for meaning. This paper considers the question “What is a psychological unit?”. The ubiquity of units in daily life and in science is considered. The assumption that the individual human being or animal is the psychological unit is examined and rejected. The units represented by the data collected in operant laboratories are interpreted as a subset of the well-defined changes that individual human beings or animals can bring about. The departure of this interpretation from the traditional interpretation in terms of the behaviour of the organism is acknowledged. The paper concludes by noting the relation of the present interpretation of operant research to the problem of identifying psychological units.

The title of this pamphlet has its attraction, and the author excites our curiosity by promising to prove that in every man there are the traces of a second personality. After a little examination one finds that Mr. Dessoir has nothing new to tell us; he simply takes advantage of words used too vaguely to state a view which his evidence cannot sustain. It is true, as he says, that consciousness and memory are the two elements of personality. It is also admitted that a man may lose for a time the remembrance of the antecedent and accompanying circumstances of his daily life, the when, where, and how which he habitually carries about with him. This is lost in dreams, and sometimes is missing on the first awaking from sleep, and in deep reverie. It is generally lost in the state of somnambulism and in the induced condition of hypnotism. Mr. Dessoir tells us that the hypnotized person or the sleep-walker forgets his previous condition in the ordinary waking state, while his memory runs back to events and experiences in the previous condition of somnambulism or hypnotism. This is certainly not always the case, but granting that it often is so, we cannot admit that it proves a double personality any more than that the dreamer is a different person from the man awake. Moreover, the sleep-walker or hypnotized person is not entirely deprived of memory. He retains his powers of language and acquired accomplishments. It is deeply interesting and deeply mysterious that one human being should have his memory running along two distinct links of association as in the cases of Felida and Leonie, cited by Mr. Dessoir. He tells us that Wolfart relates a case in which a woman remembered what had happened to her thirteen years before in magnetic sleep, of which she had no memory in the waking condition. Nevertheless, double memory will not make two distinct beings; neither will the consciousness of two parallel acts. We quite agree with Max Dessoir that a man can follow out two mental processes at once, especially if they are of a dissimilar character. This was well-known to the old metaphysicians. It has been explained as owing to the two hemispheres exerting themselves independently of one another. Dessoir rejects this explanation in a very summary manner.

Harmony in religious life is an important phenomenon to note. Considering that several different religions have developed in Indonesia, it is necessary to apply the teachings of harmony theology. Community life under religious pluralism is not always harmonious. In daily life, several cases of disharmony of religious communities often occur. This disharmony occurs because of the lack of tolerance between religious people with one another. To bring back the attitude of tolerance, one needs to explore religious teachings. Thus, there is no longer a nerrow mind against Hindus. The theology of harmony in the Hindu perspective in this case seeks to provide teachings about the unity of mankind. In the Hindu perspective of harmony theology, every human being should respect his fellow human beings because they come from the same source, namely God. Harmony is a religious obligation and obedience to God, it is also a cultural guideline and customs. The synergy between the two has always greatly influenced people's perspectives and attitudes regarding various matters, including efforts to create a harmonious life in the midst of plurality.
