Abstract Correlations and path analysis allow the understanding of the interrelations between characteristics of interest to the plant breeding. However, in order for their results to be reliable, the undesirable effect of multicollinearity must be excluded. The objective of this study was to estimate the correlations and their partitioning in direct and indirect effects, by path analysis, on the fruit production per plant (FP) of papaya from the heterotic Solo and Formosa groups, using two different strategies to circumvent multicollinearity. Eleven agronomic variables were evaluated in twelve papaya genotypes from the Solo group and nine from the Formosa group. Path analysis was obtained with the FP as the basic variable and to eliminate multicollinearity were used the discard of variables and the ridge path analysis. For the Solo group, fruit length and pulp thickness had greater direct effects on FP. In the Formosa group, the number of commercial fruits had a direct and indirect effect on FP. The two methodologies used to circumvent multicollinearity had high coefficient of determination, with better values for the ridge path analysis. The results indicated that the interrelation between the study characters was different in the Solo and Formosa groups. Thus, indirect selection strategies should be specific for each heterotic group.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this paper was to identify the direct and indirect effects of feijoa fruits (Acca sellowiana) traitson pulp weight, in order to use these traits in indirect genotypes selection. Fruits of five feijoa plants were collected in Rio Grande do Sul, in the years of 2009, 2010 and 2011. Six traits were evaluated: diameter, length, total weight, pulp weight, peel thickness and number of seeds per fruit. In the path analysis, with or without ridge regression, pulp weight was considered as the basic variable, and the other traits were considered as explanatory variables. Total weight and fruit diameter had high direct effect, and are the main traits associated with pulp weight. These traits may serve as criteria for indirect selection to increase feijoa pulp weight, since they are easy to be measured.

Oliver (1977) recently analyzed the direct effects of consumers' expectations and disconfirmation on posttrial evaluations of products using a hierarchical analysis of variance design. The research reported by Oliver is reevaluated and extended in this paper. A causal model is presented and path analysis used to assess both direct and indirect effects of consumers' expectations and a disconfirming experience on ratings of posttrial affect and intentions to purchase. Results suggest that (1) both expectations and disconfirmation influence postexposure ratings of affect with the experience of disconfirmation exerting the greater effect; (2) disconfirmation only indirectly influences intentions to purchase through its impact on affective evaluations; and, (3) expectations influence intentions to purchase in two different ways—both directly and indirectly through posttrial judgments of affect.

<p align="center">The path analysis shows that motivation has significantly direct and indirect effects to communication. Motivation does not have significant effects to performance but have indirect effects through job satisfaction. This is because motivation has significant direct effects to job satisfaction. Communication has direct and indirect effects to performance. The indirect effect is through job satisfaction. Job satisfaction has significant direct effects to performance.</p><p>The T-test results show that the effects of independent variables (motivation and communication) have significant positive effects to job satisfaction with p-value of 0.00. This value is less than alpha value (5%). Coefficient determination (R<sup>2</sup>) is of 0.741. This means that motivation and communication can explain the diversity of job satisfaction as high as 74.1% and the rest, which is of 25.9%, explains by other factors that are not used in this research. Independent variables (motivation, communication and job satisfaction) have significant positive effects to performance with p-value of 0.00. The coefficient determination (R<sup>2</sup>) is of 0.574. This means that motivation, communication, and job satisfaction can explain performance as high as 57.4% and the rest, which is of 42.6%, explains by other factors.</p><p> </p>

The direct and indirect effects of sizes of fresh stem weight, dry stem weight, fresh leafweight, dry leaf weighton plant height of narbon vetch were in vestigated using path analysis in Bingol in 2014-15 years. The plant measures of narbon vetch between 4 and 6 weeks of planting were used.The results showed that the highest correlations at 5 week narbon vetch were determined between plant length and respectively dry stem weightand fresh stem weight(r =0.849 and r =0.824). The direct effects of fresh stem weight, dry stem weight, fresh leaf weight, dry leaf weight on plant length at 6 week narbon vetcies were determined respectively as 51.341%, 50.148%, 37.782%, and 24.276%, respectively. As a result, fresh stem weight, dry stem weight were the most efficient characters on plant length and it was concluded that these characters could be considered as significant selection criterias in narbon vetch breeding for yield under that the conditions.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released from biogenic sources in a temperature-dependent manner. Consequently, Arctic ecosystems are expected to greatly increase their VOC emissions with ongoing climate warming, which is proceeding at twice the rate of global temperature rise. Here, we show that ongoing warming has strong, increasing effects on Arctic VOC emissions. Using a combination of statistical modeling on data from several warming experiments in the Arctic tundra and dynamic ecosystem modeling, we separate the impacts of temperature and soil moisture into direct effects and indirect effects through vegetation composition and biomass alterations. The indirect effects of warming on VOC emissions were significant but smaller than the direct effects, during the 14-y model simulation period. Furthermore, vegetation changes also cause shifts in the chemical speciation of emissions. Both direct and indirect effects result in large geographic differences in VOC emission responses in the warming Arctic, depending on the local vegetation cover and the climate dynamics. Our results outline complex links between local climate, vegetation, and ecosystem–atmosphere interactions, with likely local-to-regional impacts on the atmospheric composition.

This study aims to see and know the direct and indirect effects of lifestyle on purchasing decisions and consumer satisfaction. The population in this study were 500 respondents from Dumai City who bought and used a Kawasaki D-Tracker 150 motorcycle, using Path Analysis. In this study the sampling method uses the Probability Sampling Technique, which is a sampling technique that provides equal opportunities for elements of the population to be selected as sample members. In this study the authors set a sample of the criteria of respondents, namely age 17 years and above. Samples taken in this study used the Slovin formula. The results in this study that lifestyle has a positive and significant effect on consumer purchasing decisions. Lifestyle and purchasing decisions have a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction. There is an indirect effect of Lifestyle on Consumer Satisfaction through Decisions

This study aims to analyze the direct and indirect effects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on company performance through earnings management. The objects in this study are companies incorporated in LQ45 in the 2016-2018 period. Samples were taken using a purposive sampling method. The data of this study were analyzed using path analysis. The results showed four important findings: (1) the influence of CSR on company performance is positive and significant, (2) CSR has a negative and significant effect on earnings management, (3) the effect of earnings management on company performance is not significant (4) earnings management cannot mediate the effect of CSR on company performance.

The sample in this study were automotive companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2014-2018. The study used purposive sampling technique, in which there were 12 automotive companies that met predetermined criteria. Furthermore, this study applies path analysis using the Eviews program version 8.0 and Microsoft Excel 2016. To determine the direct and indirect effects on linear regression coefficients and to ensure a direct and indirect relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable through mediation, path analysis is carried out. The results of this study indicate the variable Current Ratio and Company Size have a significant effect on Firm Value, while Return On Assets and Capital Structure Ratio have no effect on Firm Value. Firm size has a significant effect on capital structure, while Current Ratio and Return on Assets have no effect on capital structure. Based on the results of the single test analysis, capital structure cannot mediate between Current Ratio, Return On Assets, and Company Size to Firm Value. </span></p></div></div></div>

The study analyzes the effect of age, education, gender, experience, and the number of family members on the interest to be an entrepreneur and entrepreneurial decision. In addition, the study tests whether the interest to be an entrepreneur mediates the effect of age, education, gender, experience, and family number on the decision to be an entrepreneur. The population of the study are the street vendors in the Jember downtown. The samples consist of 192 respondents. This research uses the path analysis to determine the direct and indirect effects. The results show that age, education, gender, experience, and the number of family member have positive and significant effects on interest and the decision to become an entrepreneur. Interest mediates the effect of age, education, gender, experience, and the number of family member on the decision to become an entrepreneur.
