Objective: To evaluate the Knoop hardness, composition, and wear resistance of acrylic-resin artificial teeth exposed to mechanical toothbrushing. Methods: Artificial teeth from three commercial brands - Biotone, Trilux, and Soluut PX - were used. From each brand, 10 teeth were selected for wear evaluation after mechanical brushing, 10 for microhardness testing, and 5 for composition analysis. Specimens underwent 55,000 brushing cycles, under a 200-g load and at a frequency of 250 cycles per minute, using a soft-bristled toothbrush (IndicatorPlus 30, Oral-B) soaked in a 1:1 toothpaste/water slurry (Oral B Pró Saúde). Microhardness testing was performed using a 25-g load for 15 seconds in an HMV-2 hardness tester (Shimadzu). The composition of teeth from different brands was determined by scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) (Jeol JSM 5800). Results: Wear results after mechanical brushing were compared by means of the paired t-test, whereas those obtained in microhardness testing were compared by ANOVA with Bonferroni correction. There was no statistically significant difference between brands in either trial. Conclusion: Composition analysis revealed that all of the artificial teeth analyzed contain carbon and oxygen. Trilux and Soluut PX brand teeth also contain silicon; however, the presence of filler particles did not result in increased resistance.

Latar Belakang. Pada bleaching ekstrakoronal diketahui terjadi proses demineralisasi sehingga terjadi hiersensitivitas dentin. UltraEZ salah satu bahan desensitizing yang dapat mengurangi hipersensitivitas akibat demineralisasi email pasca bleaching ekstrakoronal terkini. Tujuan penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kekerasan email pasca pemutihan gigi ekstra-koronal dengan aplikasi bahan desensitizing dan tanpa aplikasi bahan desensitizing. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan 20 gigi premolar permanen pasca pencabutanyang masih utuh dan direndam dalam saliva buatan, kemudian dilakukan pemolesan pada bagian bukal dengan menggunakan pasta profilaksis kemudian gigi dicuci dan dikeringkan. Bahan pemutih Opalescence Xtra Boost diaplikasikan pada semua permukaan bukal gigi premolar kemudian dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok I, II, masing-masing kelompok sebanyak 10 gigi. Kelompok I sebagai kelompok control setelah dilakukan pemutihan, tidak dilakukan aplikasi Ultra-EZ, dimasukkan dalam wadah botol dan direndam dalam saliva buatan kemudian disimpan dalam incubator. Mahkota dan akar gigi,kemudian ditanam dalam resin akrilik sesuai kelompok sebelumnya dengan permukaan bukal menghadap ke atas. Semua sampel diuji kekerasannya dengan uji kekerasan Vickers menggunakan beban 100 g selama 15 detik. Permukaan bukal menghadap ke atas, kemudian dijepit dengan alat penjepit pada meja alat Micro Vickers Hardness Tester. Sampel diatur sedemikian rupa sehingga akan terlihat gambar yang dapat diukur panjang diagonalnya langsung dengan micrometer yang ada pada lensa okuler. Nilai kekerasan email dalam Vickers hardness number (VHN) juga dapat diperoleh dari table setelah mengetahui rata-rata panjang diagonal, berat badan yang digunakan dan waktu yang digunakan untuk uji kekerasan. Pengujian ini dilakukan pada setiap kelompok. Selanjutnya diuji dengan uji-t. hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada perbedaan yang bermakna antara aplikasi ultraEZ lima menit dibandingkan tanpa aplikasi ultraEZ terhadap kekerasan email pada p>0,05. Background. One of the side effect of bleaching agent is a dentine hypersensitive and ultraEZ is an agent can diminish this process. The purpose of this study was to evaluate difference of enamel microhardness post external bleaching with or without ultra-eze application. Method. Twenty extracted permanent bicuspid used in this study were divided into two group, each group contains 10 bicupids. Group I was treated external bleaching without ultra-eze application and group II was treated external bleaching with application ultraEZ for five minutes. After that all of the subject were seaked the artificial saliva and kept in the incubator 24 hours. Teeth were embedded into acrylic resin with the buccal sirface facing up. Further all of the subject was evaluated by Vickers using 100 g load for 15 seconds. Teeth were stapled on the Micro Hardness Tester table diagonal of emage was measure using micrometer attach on ocular lesnse. Email hardness can be known after calculating, the everage diagonal length, the load used and the duration of hardness test. Further the data was analize using t-test. The result shows there is significant difference between bleaching with and without the application of ultra-eze.

Acrylic denture teeth may suffer fracture or wear requiring the need for repair. This study aimed to evaluate the shear bond strength between acrylic resin artificial teeth restored with composite resin (with two different surface treatments) and acrylic resin (AR), simulating repair with these materials. Thirty artificial incisors were included by the palatal side in a circular microwave-polymerized AR base and polished on their buccal side with 120 and 320 grit sandpaper in a metallographic polisher and, then, divided into three groups: (I) restoration with self-cured AR; (II) conventional restoration with Z-100 composite resin with application of acid etching and Single Bond-3M adhesive; and (III) restoration with Z-100 composite resin with submersion for 30 seconds in acetone and application of Single Bond-3M adhesive. Shear bond strength tests were performed in a Universal Testing Machine (Instron). The results were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey (p<0.05) tests, in which Group I (33.26MPa ±10.76) and Group III (22.24MPa ±13.13) showed no statistically significant difference, but both were superior to Group II (10.31MPa ±5.62), which showed a lower value of shear bond strength. It can be concluded that composite resin restoration with acetone pretreatment can be a viable alternative for repair.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of artificial teeth to different types of denture base resins when submitted to thermomechanical cycling (TMC). Methods: Sixty artificial mandibular first molars (Trilux, Vipi) were randomly divided into 3 groups according to denture base acrylic resins (Vipi Wave, Vipi Cril, and Vipi Cril Plus, Vipi). The teeth were fixed onto self-polymerizing acrylic resin bars (0.5 cm2 cross-section x 2 cm height), and the set was included in a metal flask using dental stone/silicone. After the dental stone was set, the bar was removed, and the denture base resin was packed and processed according to the group studied (Vipi Wave: 180 W/20 minutes + 540W/5 minutes; Vipi Cril and Vipi Cril Plus: Water bath at 74ºC for 9h). After polymerization, the samples were divided into 2 groups (n=10), according to the TMC treatment received (simulation of 5 years of mastication or not). The samples were submitted to tensile bond strength test (1 mm/min), and the data (MPa) were statistically analyzed (2-way ANOVA, Bonferroni, α=0.05). The fracture interfaces were evaluated using a stereomicroscope (50x). Results: The bond strength results showed no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between the resins studied. TMC was significant (p<0.05), demonstrating lower values for the bond strength of artificial teeth to Vipi Cril Plus. The predominant fracture type was cohesive in resin. Conclusions: It was concluded that there is no difference in bond strength between artificial teeth and the resins used for denture base. However, TMC decreases the bond strength values of artificial teeth and crosslink thermo-polymerizable acrylic resin.

Objective: Hardness is an indicator of several mechanical properties of artificial teeth, also related to wear resistance. The purpose of this article is to map the microhardness of artificial teeth as a function of depth and commercial brand. Methods: Knoop microhardness of sectioned artificial second molars was measured every 200 µm starting at a depth of 100 µm up until 4700 µm of the following brands: Premium (Pr), Orthosit (Or), SR Postaris DCL (Po), Biotone (Bi), Artiplus IPN (Ar), VITA MFT (Vi), Natusdent (Na), Trilux (Tr), and Biolux (Bx). Results were analyzed with ANOVA for repeated measures and Tukey test (5%). Results: SR Orthosit PE commercial brand presented higher hardness values (until the depth of 3.1 mm was 30 N/mm2), significantly higher than the other brands analyzed. Conclusion: Knoop hardness did not present differences between layers for eight of the nine brands studied. Different hardness values were found between superficial and cervical areas for the brand SR Orthosit PE.

This study aimed at establishing the polymerization time of a microwave-cured acrylic resin (AcronTM MC), simultaneously processing 2, 4, and 6 flasks. Required time was measured according to the parameters: monomer release in water, Knoop hardness, and porosity. Samples were made with AcronTM MC in different shapes: rectangular (32 x 10 x 2.5 mm) for monomer release and porosity; and half-disc (30 mm in diameter x 4 mm in height) for Knoop hardness. There were four experimental groups (n = 24 per group): G1) one flask (control); G2) two flasks; G3) four flasks, and G4) six flasks. At first, polymerization protocol was similar for all groups (3 min/450 W). Time was then adjusted for G2, G3, and G4, based on monomer release evaluation in the control group, obtained by spectrophotometer Beckman DU-70, with emitting wave of 206 nm. Knoop hardness test was performed using a Shimadzu HMV 2000 hardness tester, and 10 indentations were performed on each specimen's surface. Porosity was assessed after specimens were immersed in black ink and the pores counted in a microscope. Results showed that the complete polymerization of the resin occurred in 4.5 min for two flasks (G2); 8.5 min for four flasks (G3); and 13 min for six flasks (G4), all with 450 W. Statistical analysis revealed that the number of flasks does not interfere with polymerization, Knoop hardness, and porosity of the resin. Results showed that polymerization of microwave-curing resin with more than one flask is a viable procedure, as long as polymerization time is adjusted.

OBJECTIVE: Abrasion resistance of three commercial brands of acrylic resin for artificial teeth, available on the domestic market (Biotone(r), Plus(r) and Vipi Dent Artiplus(r)) was evaluated by a new methodology called "Pirassununga Method ". METHODS: The Manufacturers produced the maxillary central incisor-shaped incisal resin specimens (n=27). These were embedded in chemically activated acrylic resin in an insulated metal matrix to fabricate test specimens, which were flattened on a lathe and refined manually with sandpaper. Wear testing was conducted in an experimental machine at the Vipi dental products factory. In the "Pirassununga Method" a polished metal sphere 4.8 mm in diameter, attached to a rotary device passes over the fixed specimens in programmable cycles, under 5N pressure, using distilled water as lubricant. In each sample, the groove caused by abrasion, was analyzed in two ways: Readout under a microscope to determine the breadth and depth of the groove caused by the ball, and by laser roughness meter readout, which obtained a value Rt. RESULTS: The nonparametric Kruskal Wallis test showed no statistically significant difference between the medians of brands evaluated in the cycles performed (p = 0.936). CONCLUSION: Artiplus(r) Brand showed a lower tendency to wear than commercial brands Biotone(r) and Plus(r) Vipi Dent, with the best performance shown for the IPN polymer.

The surface of heat-cured acrylic resin on the base of artificial teeth has a risk of surface roughness. Its causes are liquid absorption and chemical processes. Fluid absorption can be affected by immersion in denture cleaners containing sodium bicarbonate. This study aims to determine the effect of a denture cleanser containing 48% sodium bicarbonate on changes in heat-cured acrylic resin's roughness. This study used 16 specimens of heat-cured acrylic resin (brand Meliodent) and was square in size of 10x10x2.0 ± 0.5 mm. The samples' roughness is measured by using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The specimens were immersed in denture cleansing tablets containing 48% sodium bicarbonate for 17 days at room temperature ± 25 °C and were replaced within 8 hours. After immersion, the specimens were measured again using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to determine the final roughness. The data obtained were analyzed by using paired t-test. The analysis showed no significant difference between surface roughness before and after soaking with a denture cleansing tablet containing 48% sodium bicarbonate (p 0.05). This study concluded that there was no increase in the roughness of heat-cured acrylic resin after immersion in denture cleansing tablets containing 48% sodium bicarbonateKEYWORDS: Fittydent, heat-cured acrylic resin, surface roughness

This study evaluated Knoop hardness, surface roughness and color alteration of artificial teeth for dentures after immersion in water, 1% sodium hypochlorite and an experimental solution of 2% Ricinus communis (RC). Thirty specimens of Vipi, Biolux and Trilux were analyzed. Tests of Knoop hardness, surface roughness and color alteration were conducted immediately after specimen preparation (T0) and after two immersion protocols for 15 days (ΔT15) and 183 days (ΔT183). Data variation (ΔT) were subjected to ANOVA and Tukey's test (p<0.05). At ΔT15, Vipi presented hardness increase and Biolux presented the highest variation (p=0.01). RC caused the highest increase in hardness (p=0) and the lowest increase (p=0.005) in roughness. Biolux presented the lowest color alteration (p =0). At ΔT183, Trilux underwent the highest hardness variation (p=0). Biolux presented an increase in roughness (p=0). There was no significant differences in color alteration among the artificial teeth (p=0.06) and among solutions (p=0.08) after 183 days of immersion. All solutions (distilled water, 1% sodium hypochlorite and 2% RC) caused alterations on the analyzed properties. Both immersion protocols caused alterations on the analyzed properties.

AbstractA total of 1520 patients with urinary stones from central China were collected and analysed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy between October 1, 2016 and December 31, 2019. For all patients, age, sex, comorbidities, stone location, laboratory examination and geographic region were collected. The most common stone component was calcium oxalate (77.5%), followed by calcium phosphate (8.7%), infection stone (7.6%), uric acid (UA) stone (5.3%)and cystine (0.9%). The males had more calcium oxalate stones (p < 0.001), while infection stone and cystine stones occurred more frequently in females (p < 0.001). The prevalence peak occurred at 41–60 years in both men and women. UA stones occurred frequently in patients with lower urinary pH (p < 0.001), while neutral urine or alkaline urine (p < 0.001) and urinary infection (p < 0.001) were more likely to be associated with infection stone stones. Patients with high levels of serum creatinine were more likely to develop UA stones (p < 0.001). The proportion of UA stones in diabetics was higher (p < 0.001), and the incidence of hypertension was higher in patients with UA stones (p < 0.001). Compared to the other types, more calcium oxalate stones were detected in the kidneys and ureters (p < 0.001), whereas struvite stones were more frequently observed in the lower urinary tract (p = 0.001). There was no significant difference in stone composition across the Qinling-Huaihe line in central China except UA stones, which were more frequently observed in patients south of the line (p < 0.001).

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the shear bond strength of a novel calcium aluminate-based cement, EndoBinder (EB), to dentine in comparison with Grey and White Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA). Materials and Methods: Root canal hemi-sections obtained from 30 extracted molar teeth were embedded in self-polymerized acrylic resin and were grounded wet in order to obtain a flat dentine surface. Next, the roots were randomly assigned into three groups (n = 10), according to the cement used, as follows: EB: EndoBinder; WMTA: White MTA and GMTA: Grey MTA. The shear bond strength test was performed using a Universal Testing Machine (0.5 mm/min) and the data were submitted to statistical analysis (1-way ANOVA and Tukey tests, P < 0.05). Results: EB presented the highest shear bond strength values; however, there was no statistically significant difference in comparison with GMTA (P > 0.05). WMTA presented the lowest mean values, which were significant in comparison with EB (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The novel calcium aluminate-based cement presented higher shear bond strength than WMTA, and should be considered as a promising alternative in endodontic therapy.
