ABSTRACT Objective: This cross-sectional, observational study sought to ascertain the perception of parents vis-à-vis the presumption of a dentoalveolar trauma, with regard to the main sequelae, social relationships, expected reactions of the children, and the feelings of the child. Methods: A total of 74 parents were selected at random, who were presented with six color photographs taken from a book, having the clinical appearance of traumatic injury. The responses were recorded with the aid of a voice recorder and were transcribed and stratified using semantic approximation. The data were tabulated using the SPSS software program and evaluated using descriptive statistics. Results: The main sequelae ascribed to dentoalveolar trauma by the parents were as follows: loss of the tooth (43%) and damage to the permanent tooth (18%). The majority of parents believed there would be no change in terms of the children’s relationship with their parents (68.9%), while for 54.1%, there might be some alienation by children in the neighborhood, and for 90.5%, schoolchildren might tease or make fun of them. Of the expected reactions, 86.5% of parents believed their child would feel differently in relation to their friends, because of their appearance. With regard to feelings, for 85.1%, the trauma could lead to the children experiencing shame or embarrassment, 79.7% replied shyness or introversion, and 60.8% sadness. Conclusion: It was concluded that the loss of a tooth and the risk of involvement of the permanent successor tooth germ were the main sequelae ascribed by the parents. Dentoalveolar trauma may have a detrimental effect on the social relationships of the children with others in the neighborhood, and mainly at school, and they may feel differently towards their friends on account of their appearance. Moreover, the children may experience shame or embarrassment, shyness or introversion, and sadness.

Objective: to ascertain the association between the social support and the quality of life of relative caregivers of elderly dependents at home.Method: a cross-sectional study conducted with 58 relative caregivers of elderly dependents, registered in the Family Health Strategy. Data were collected from the Katz instrument, sociodemographic, Zarit Burden Interview, WHOQOL-bref, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. Results: the majority of caregivers were women, who took care full-time and presented moderate to severe burden. Most caregivers are satisfied with their social relationships and the social support received. It is found that the burden and the time of care correlated with the social relationships domain, which is associated with social support, and consequently, reduced quality of life. Conclusion: social support for caregivers is important to prevent health implications, burden, biopsychosocial stress, and provide favorable conditions for quality of life, by allowing greater freedom to develop their daily activities.

ABSTRACT Dentoalveolar trauma is a severe traumatic injury involving alveolar bone and dental structures. Like any trauma, it can leave irreparable sequelae and even cause tooth loss. The aim of this study is to report on the case of a dentoalveolar trauma in a 10-year-old male patient and the treatment performed with 12-month follow-up. The child had lateral luxation and displacement of teeth 11 and 21 in labial direction after a fall from his own height. The patient was examined at a hospital, received medication and was referred to a dental clinic. At the dental office, the teeth were repositioned, as well as received endodontic treatment and dental reanatomization. Two months after the trauma, root resorption was observed externally, which remained stable for 12 months. It was concluded that post-trauma treatment should be immediate and that follow-up sessions should be done carefully to minimize sequelae and to receive better prognosis.

OBJECTIVES: to evaluate the older adults' perceptions of their quality of life (QoL) in two long-stay care facilities in Pouso Alegre and Santa Rita in Sapucaí, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil , and to identify the sociodemographic and health variables which interfere in this perception. METHOD: a cross-sectional epidemiological study of 77 older adults resident in institutions. The instruments used were: personal characterization; WHOQOL-bref and WHOQOL OLD. RESULT: the highest average obtained in the instruments was: the "Social Relationships" domain in the WHOQOL-bref (68%) and the "Sensory abilities" aspect in the WHOQOL-OLD (73.7%). The variables age, sex, physical activity and level of schooling have a significant correlation with the WHOQOL-bref and the variables sex and leisure have the same with the WHOQOL OLD. CONCLUSION: older adults who are younger, with higher levels of schooling and who undertake physical and leisure activity have, on average, better perceptions of their QoL. The older adults' QoL in this study had higher rates than that reported in the literature and was similar to that in the community. The results suggest the need to train those involved with older adults in institutions so that they may develop strategies which promote the adaptation, adjustment and maintenance of QoL.

Background: Social relationships refer to the existing associations between family members, friends, neighbours, co-workers, and other associates. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing has been imposed by the curfew program in Jordan. Aim: To evaluate the effects of social distancing on the social relationships of the Jordanian population. Methods: A cross-sectional study using an online survey was conducted in Jordan between the 6th and the 30th of May, 2020. Our questionnaire was constructed to explore the population’s perception of the quarantine period, how it is affecting their relationship with others, and the characteristics of their social relationships and communication with various population categories, including family members and work colleagues. Multiple linear regression was used to identify predictors of better social relationships and communication. Results: A total of 4,301 participants were involved in this study. The average score of the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on social relationships among the whole study population was 5.68 (SD: 2.33) out of 10 (equal to 56.8%), which indicates the marginal strength of the social relationships. Around 31.6% of the participants reported that their social relationships were affected to a high degree by the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants who were aged 36–45 were positively affected in terms of their social relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic is negatively affecting social relationships, which could ultimately lead to negative health implications. Decision-makers are advised to provide educational campaigns that improve the sociological health of the general population.

Background: The global increase in non-communicable diseases and increased aging of most populations is projected to have a profound effect on the overall prevalence of disability. Quality of life is a concept that has become fundamental to assessing life and living of all individuals more so for people with disabilities. In this study, we focused on assessing the quality of life of persons with mobility disabilities in Rivers State, Nigeria, identifying factors that influence their quality of life from their perspective. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional design was used in conducting this study among 179 subjects with a physical disability, specifically mobility impairment. The inclusion criterion was all persons with a physical disability. Exclusion criteria were children (0-17 years) with any form of disability, persons with intellectual, visual and hearing impairments. We used a Two-Stage sampling process using a computerized random number generator. The study tool was the (7) WHOQOL - BREF questionnaire which was both self and interviewer-administered. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Significance was set at P≤0.05. Results: The lowest and the highest mean scores of WHOQOL-BREF domains were found for the social relationships domain (Mean = 10.58) and the environmental health domain (Mean = 23.52), respectively. The mean age of respondents was 38.49 ± 10.89years. Respondents ≤34 years of age had a higher mean overall QoL scores (2.71 ± 1.04) than those above 34 years (2.57 ± 1.10). A significance was observed between age and physical health. Education years was significantly associated with two domains (psychological and environment), Employment status was associated with two domains (psychological and social relationships), and the onset of disability associated with the psychological domain (p<0.05). Conclusion: Quality of life was relatively low across the four health-related domains, with the social relationship domain recording the lowest mean QoL scores. The factors that had significant positive relationships with various domains of quality of life were level of education, gender, age, occupation and activities of daily living. In Nigeria, disability status is still largely absent from routine data collection. This study adds to bridging the gap in evidence-based research on disability.

Based on analyses of a 2016 German survey, this article contributes to debates on ‘societal nature relations’ by investigating the systematic differences between socially specific types of social relations with nature in a flexible capitalist society. It presents a typology of ten different ‘syndromes’ of attitudes toward social and environmental issues, which are then grouped to distinguish between four ideal types of social relationships with nature: dominance, conscious mutual dependency, alienation and contradiction. These are located in Pierre Bourdieu’s (1984) social space to illustrate how social relationships with nature correspond to people’s positions within the totality of social relations. Understanding how people’s perceptions of and actions pertaining to nature are shaped by their positions in these intersecting relations of domination – both within social space and between society and nature – is an important precondition for developing transformative strategies that will be capable of gaining majority support in flexible capitalist societies.

Increasing the number of elderly people every year should be a concern, due to an increase in the number of elderly problems faced will become increasingly complex, one of which is a problem related to the symptoms of aging. Decreased intellectual capacity is closely related to cognitive function in the elderly. Physical activity is identified as one of the factors that influence cognitive function. Physical activity is beneficial for the elderly as prevention and dementia. This study was an observational analytic study using a cross sectional approach. The study was conducted at the social foundation nursing home in the white cross in June 2018. The population in this study was elderly aged ≥60 years. The subjects in this study were 16 respondents. The independent variable in this study is physical activity that is assessed using the GPAQ instrument. While the dependent variable in this study was cognitive function which was assessed by the MMSE instrument. There are 4 people (25%) who fall into the category of normal cognitive function with moderate physical activity categories 1 person and heavy activities 3 people, then those included in the category of mild cognitive function disorders are 11 people (68.75%), with the category of physical activity being 8 people and 3 light activities. While those included in the category of severe cognitive function disorders, there is 1 person (6.25%) with a mild activity category. The significance level between the level of physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly is p = 0.007 or p <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly.

Background: Pigmented tumour of the skin is one of the common tumour in human including the benign pigmented tumours (more common) called Nevi tumours and the malignant one called melanoma which was less frequent but the most poor in prognosis. In addition, the others not belonging to these group had the same clinical appearance, so the application of histopathology and immunohistochemistry for the definitive diagnosis was indespensible. Objectives: 1. To describe the macroscopic features of the pigmented tumoral-like lesions; 2. To classify the histopathologic types of the pigmented cell tumours and the other pigmented tumours of the skin. Materials and Method: Cross-sectional research on 55 patients diagnosed as pigmented tumoral lesions by clinician, then all definitively diagnosed by histopathology combining the immunohistochemistry in difficult cases. Results: There was no difference in gender, the disease was discovered most common in adult, especially with the age over 51 years old (58.1%). the most region located was in the face accounting for 60%, following the trunk and limbs (14.6%, 12.8% respectively). All 3 malignant melanomas happened in foot. The most common color of the lesions was black (65.4%), the other ones were rose, grey and blue. Histopathology and immunohisthochemistry showed that the true pigmented cell tumours were 52.6% encompassing benign ones (Nevi tumour) (41.8%), melanoma (5.4%) and lentigo (5.4%). 47.4% was not the true pigmented cell tumour including pigmented basocellular carcinoma (36.4%) and the others less common as histiofibromas, acanthoma and papilloma. Conclusion: the pigmented tumoral-like lesions of the skin could be the true pigmented cell tumours and the others, so the application of the histopathology and the immunohistochemistry after the clinical discovery helps to determine and classify the disease definitely and for the best orientation of treatment as well. Key words: skin tumour, benign pigmented tumour (Nevi), malignant pigmented tumour (melanoma), pigmented basocellular carcinoma
