Segmentation of stands by tracks is often the first phase of forest tending. However, a suitable track width is still discussed in forest practice in the Czech Republic. This article deals with the effect of track width on the growth characteristics of young spruce stands. Research involves several variants of European thinning experiment IUFRO CZ 14 Machov situated in Eastern Bohemia. Totally 3 variants were analyzed: 1 – non-segmented control plot without thinning and plots with forest tending (at top height 10 and 20 m) and with different present width of tracks (plot 3 – originally 3.5 m, plot 4 – originally 5.0 m). The significantly positive effect of stand segmentation and tracks on dbh and crown length was found only for individuals growing in the first row next to a track. As regards the stand volume and volume of mean stem, differences between variants with skidding track (3 and 4) were found minimal and insignificant. Therefore, the observation did not reveal any evident losses of production caused by different widths of skidding tracks.

This contribution presents LAI data of 17 Norway spruce stands of different age (from 15 to 102 years) and health status (defoliation ranging from 0 to 40 %) located in the Těšínské Beskydy Mts. (NE of the Czech Republic). Defoliation degree was estimated by ocular observation and LAI was estimated indirectly on the base of gap fraction method using LAI-2000 PCA (Li-Cor, USA). It was found that LAI decreased with stand age (approximately from 12.6 to 8.5) whereas defoliation increased. Therefore, strong relationship between defoliation and LAI as well as gap fractions was found. LAI appears valuable parameter for health status of stand evaluation due to linear relationship (r2 = 0.87) between LAI and defoliation. As LAI can be estimated more objectively by a canopy analyzer then the degree of canopy defoliation by ocular observation, there is a perspective for a wide use LAI in forest practice. The LAI values can be used for the evaluation of health status of Norway spruce stands.

Tree growth depends on many factors such as microsite conditions, vitality, and variations in climate and genetics. It is generally accepted that higher growth indicates both an economic benefit and better vitality of any tree. Here we use a modified approach of evaluating tree social area to study mutual tree competition based on the orientation and shape of trees social area. The investigation was performed in nine Norway spruce stands in the Czech Republic. The objective of this study performed from 2008 to 2012 was to quantify relative tree radial increments with respect to the lowest and highest competition found in specific sectors of tree social area (AS). Specific groups of trees (tree classes) were evaluated according to their classes (dominant, co-dominant and sub-dominant) and their composition status in ninety-degree sectors of AS using established classifying rules. The results showed that a spatially-available area (AA) is an inappropriate parameter for predicting tree growth, whereas AS provided robust explanatory power to predict relative radial growth. Tree size was observed as an important indicator of relative radial increments. A significantly positive correlation was found for a radial increment of sub-dominant trees with the lowest competition from western directions; whereas a negative correlation was observed when the lowest competition was observed from eastern directions. For dominant trees, there was an evident growth reaction only when more than 50% of the AS was oriented towards one of the cardinal points. Individual differences in the orientation of tree AS may be important parameters with regard to competition and its spatial variability within an area surrounding a particular tree and deserve more detailed attention in tree growth models and practice.

This article focuses on the impact of clusters on performance in five selected industries. Focused on increasing the competitiveness of regions and enterprises, clusters are currently considered one of the most essential tools of industrial policy. This includes the Czech Republic, where cluster initiatives have been systematically supported since 2004 by operational programmes. The goal of this research was to determine whether cluster organizations have a positive effect on the performance of their member enterprises in various industries. Another goal was to verify the relation between the financial and innovative performance of the member enterprises. The research was carried out on a sample of five clusters in the automotive, IT, furnituremanufacturing, packaging and machinery industries, with Data Envelopment Analysis used for this performance evaluation. The enterprises were divided into three groups: companies that are members of cluster organizations, companies that are active in the same region and industry but are not members of a cluster group, and companies from the respective industry that operate outside the region of the given cluster. The results of the study indicate that in four industries (automotive, IT, packaging, machinery), member companies of cluster organizations achieve better results than non-members or firms active in other regions. On the other hand, it was not possible to prove a positive relation between company performance and their registered industrial rights, neither from the perspective of cluster membership nor their activity in the respective industry and region.

The article highlights the results of research dealing with the assessment of the new resource-saving technology for growing heifers that has been developed and implemented in DLC "Terezino" of Bila Tserkva district in Kyiv region. The conditions of keeping and behavior of heifers in individual houses during the first month after birth at subzero temperatures and when transferring them to group cages were studied. Studies have been conducted to assess the effectiveness of milk substitution use. It was found that the composition of milk substitutes have been optimally regulated and such indicators as fat, protein and lactose content are in a stable state. Milk substitutes have a very low bacterial contamination, which has a positive effect on the physiological state of dairy heifers, their growth and development. Animals are sick rarely and provide 100% preservation of young animals. An assessment of new easily build premises in ensuring a quality microclimate has been provided. It has been established that the presence of side curtains and lightaeration ridge in the construction of these premises increases air exchange and reduces the level of harmful gases to a minimum level. The ammonia content in the placement constitutes 1.75 mg / m3 against 22 mg / m3 in traditional premises. The presence of hydrogen sulfide is twice less indoors and constitutes (5.2 mg / m3 vs. 10 mg / m3 according to regulations). It has been established that the division of sections for keeping of repair heifers of the cattle for feeding and recreation area has a positive effect on their behavior, and the presence of a feed table and feeding of heifers with complete ration wet mixes ensures their growth and development in accordance with existing regulations. The use of new resource-saving technology for growing of breeding replacement heifers in this farm allows to reduce labor costs for the production of 1centner of growth up to 3.7 people / hour against 9.2 people/ hour according to traditional technologies. King grass is parenenial plant that grow slower then elephant grass.  The growth and development of the  plant breed effected by development of the clone so that some efforts must be taken  to stimulate germinative  development of king grass. The research purposed to know how for the level of IBA  consentration and immersion period of the slip of plant has an effect  toward the growth of germination of king grass. Complete randomizet design of factorial type 3 x 3 and Duncan’s multiple range test, were used in the experiment. The treatments  were used  in the eksperiment: K1 (100 ppm of concentration), K2 (200 ppm of concentration), K3 (300 ppm of concentration), W1 (one hours of immersion  period), W2 (two hours of immersion  period), W3 (Three hours of immersion  period). The result of this research  showed that amount the treatments gave significant effect to the percentation of buds, number of buds, height of plant, number of roots, length of root. Nevertheless, there  was an inccclination that the more  the height of consentration  level was given, the result would better than the research. It can be concluded that the level of IBA consentration and immersion period  had a positive effect influences which from the  average result obtained K3W3 gave the heighest percentation of buds appear, number of buds, height of plant and length of roots. While persentation  of buds to appear, number of buds, height of buds and the lowest roots length founded in K1W1.

With the growth and development in technology, one of the most significant changes has been the commercialisation of Internet. There has been a revolution in Internet technology with the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights recognizing “Right to Internet” as a human right. There are countries like Antigua and Barbuda, Angola, Armenia, Colombia, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Panama, Poland, Peru, South Africa, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom, which already have legislations promoting the cause of Internet to every citizen. This chapter aims to study the implementation and utility of the right to Internet being recognized as a fundamental right and the principles behind it. It also intends to study the method of implementation of this right keeping in mind the situation prevalent in China, which restricts Internet usage. The chapter would also make suggestion with regards to the remedies available to the people in the cases of the countries not recognizing the right.

Growth and development of selected dinitroaniline-resistant (DR) and -susceptible (DS) goosegrass populations were compared in field studies in replacement series, in association with cotton, and under noncompetitive conditions. The DR ‘Florence’ (FR) and DS ‘Orangeburg’ (OS) populations were similar in competitiveness as indicated by relative yields (RY) and relative crowding coefficients (RCC) for vegetative and reproductive biomass production in a replacement series. Relative growth of the FR and DS ‘Anderson’ (AS) populations in replacement series was similar when vegetative biomass was considered, but reproductive biomass of the AS population declined as proportion of FR population increased. RCC values also indicated that the FR population interfered with reproductive development of the AS population. In field studies, the FR population produced greater vegetative biomass than either DS population, while similar reproductive biomass occurred for the FR and OS populations. Inflorescence dry weights were greater for the FR than the AS population under noncompetitive conditions and in cotton, but were greater for the AS population in replacement series studies. The competitiveness of DR and DS goosegrass biotypes appears to be more related to growth characteristics of individual populations than to response to dinitroaniline herbicides.

For 17 Norway spruce stands located in the Krkonoše Mts. in the Czech Republic a long-term assessment of defoliation, height increment, foliage concentration of nutrients (N, P, Ca, K, Mg) and stress elements (S, F) was carried out. The results show a decrease of defoliation and a slight increase of height increment, which occur in accordance with the decreasing concentration of sulphur in spruce needles. However, neither sulphur concentration nor height increment trends are significant, suggesting that both the main pollution abatement and the growth resumption took place already in the 1990’s. During the late 1990’s the average spruce defoliation was greater than 35%, while since 2007 it has fluctuated between 18 and 25%, which corresponds with the figures for the forest stands located in the other regions of the Czech Republic. The evaluation of single nutrient concentrations detected occasional deficiencies of P and Mg at individual plots. The good N nutrition (&gt; 15 mg N·g<sup>–1</sup>) in combination with a significantly decreasing trend of P, K and Ca concentrations in Norway spruce needles may potentially constitute a problem in regard to both the future health and the stability of forest stands in the studied region.
