This research is based on the results of preliminary studies that have been conducted by researchers regarding the importance of brushing teeth. Brushing teeth in children aged 4-5 years is not explained in detail in the curriculum and has an impact on the difficulties faced by teachers in selecting and designing learning media to brush their teeth, therefore researchers design learning media with approaches that are appropriate to the conditions of children in the field. Researchers developed the tooth puppet media into a Healthy Dental Box (HDB) medium to facilitate the brushing skills of children aged 4-5 years. The method used in this research is Design Based Research (DBR) developed by Reeves to design, develop, and test the feasibility of a product to overcome problems in learning. Data collection is done by observation, interview and validation of media experts. In general, the product is declared suitable for use as a learning medium regarding brushing teeth based on the results of media validation by experts in the health sector, experts in the field of learning media and pedagogical experts. Reflections on product development, namely producing Healthy Dental Box (HDB) media to facilitate tooth brushing skills in children aged 4-5 years.

An emergency can happen anywhere and anytime, especially in developing countries with a high potential for emergencies, such as Eastern European countries as well as Indonesia. This study aimed to find out the quality of PSC 119 Si Slamet as a prehospital emergency service innovation. The data collection in this study was carried out in a location, namely, Batang Regency, Indonesia, in May–June 2018. The qualitative data collection methods used in this study are in-depth interviews and document reviews. This study was using Service Quality (Servqual) questionnaire. The results show that PSC 119 Si Slamet provides easy access to emergency services to the community 24 hours a day and 7 days a week by simply calling 119 numbers, sending messages via SMS and WhatsApp, or using the Android-based application, with a maximum response time target of 10 minutes. Batang is one of the regencies (rural area) in Central Java province, located on the main coastline, with a hilly geographic condition with many derivatives, climbs, and sharp curves, which is one of the causes of the high number of traffic accidents in the area. This emergency care information systems, with Android-based application, was aimed at improving the quality of services in the health sector, especially emergency services. This service is of good quality as seen from the tangible, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy dimensions. However, in the implementation, the socialization aspect is not the best to some people. The recommendation given was the need to increase the PSC 119 socialization of Si Slamet not only regionally but also internationally to be massive, especially in developing countries.

The chapter reports on a study examining learning stations designed by English as a second language students in order to improve pronunciation. This on-going Design-Based Research study focuses on promoting, sustaining, and understanding an educational innovation (Bell, 2004). The longitudinal study identifies favorable and unfavorable aspects of learner-designed pronunciation station teaching. Results extend previous iterations of data collection and analysis of student assignments with reference to technology resources and online survey results as part of strategic (re)designing of the activity. This pedagogy fosters student responsibility for learning and utilizing learning opportunities they create. Discussion is provided about how poststructural theory corresponds with design-based research as data collection and analysis methodology to illuminate discourses of autonomy as agency, motivation and investment, and resistance. Design-based research frames the postmodern and action oriented design based research goals of “examining the assumptions underlying contemporary educational programs and practices” (Reeves, McKenney, & Herrington, 2011, pp. 60-61).

Design-based case studies allow researchers to examine instructional innovations that are bounded by perspective, context, and time. Design-based case study is an approach that blends case study research with design-based research in order to more systematically examine the process and products of an intervention. This approach provides a framework for engaging in iterative cycles of data collection and analysis to determine if, how, and why goals of instructional innovations have been met. This chapter provides an overview of the design-based case study approach and responds to common concerns surrounding case study and design-based research and how design-based case studies address these concerns by building on the strengths of both approaches.
