The research aims to examine how positive review disconfirmation (i.e., a positive deviance between a hotel consumer’s poststay evaluation and the average review rating by prior consumers) affects subsequent consumers’ willingness to post online reviews and their own review ratings. By employing an experimental research method, this study reveals that positive review disconfirmation increases hotel guests’ willingness to post online reviews, and increases their online review ratings through the mechanism of concern for others, demonstrating an act of altruism. In addition, comparatively the positive review disconfirmation effects are stronger when the variance of prior review ratings is smaller. This study enhances the online review social influence literature, and the consumer’s altruistic motivation of posting online reviews.

Subject Uganda's social media tax. Significance Uganda in July began implementing a set of new taxes on internet-based services. These include a daily fee for use of ‘over-the-top’ (OTT) social media platforms (such as WhatsApp, Twitter or Facebook), and a tax on mobile money transactions. However, the measures have been fiercely opposed by the public and have drawn widespread condemnation as an infringement on freedom of speech. Impacts Nigeria is also mulling a social media tax; all sides will use the Uganda situation in ways that support their own views in that debate. Zambia’s government may use a proposed set of tough cybercrime laws to stifle dissent ahead of President Edward Lungu’s re-election bid. Tanzania will resist calls to reform new regulations requiring bloggers to pay for licenses to post online content.

In recent years, the Marin Foundation has gained increasing attention as a Christian group attempting to reconcile with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual (LGBT) community. As one means of fostering reconciliation, the “I’m Sorry” campaign within the Marin Foundation encourages individuals to post online video confessionals, stating what they are sorry for and how they intend to make things better for the LGBT community. This study examines these online video confessionals as a unique site of identity negotiation for Christian individuals attempting to reconcile with the LGBT community. Rhetorical analysis of the videos revealed that the individuals drew from a specific repertoire of apology and suggestions for future action, which fell in line with Kenneth Burke’s notion of scapegoating and mortification. As a result, the “story of self” articulated by the individuals failed to be coherent with both the stated goals of the foundation and the main tenets of Evangelical Christian identity.

As an effort to control and handle COVID-19, the government has issued a school from home (SFH) policy. This policy has forced children to stay at home and carry out learning using digital media. This situation has an impact on increasing the use of digital media and the involvement of parents in children's learning significantly. This study explores the use of digital media in children in Surabaya during the pandemic period and how parents can assist the use of these media. This research uses qualitative methods with in-depth interview techniques. Researchers distributed questionnaires about the use of digital media to 66 parents, and nine parents stated that they were willing to become informants. The results show that in addition to a significant increase in the time to use digital media during the pandemic, the pandemic has also changed the parental assistance and supervision of children. Before the pandemic, the assistance model was carried out more with technical restrictions, in the form of time restrictions, content access, application choices, and the number of data packages (restrictive mediation). However, during a pandemic, the mentoring model was carried out with active mediation through discussions and critical thinking, active together with devices, close surveillance, and monitoring on applications and post online activities (active mediation, co-using, supervision, monitoring). One of the pandemic's positive impacts is the opening of discussion spaces between parents and children, the opportunity to use gadgets together, and opportunities for children and parents to learn digital skills.

The vast amount of reviews available online presents a paradox: Why do reviewers spend hours writing them? Here we demonstrate in three studies that one reason people write online reviews is to bolster their public identity by conspicuously affiliating with high-status products or organizations. First, we conducted a set of surveys and found that participants are more likely to post online reviews of restaurants that are higher status, controlling for their familiarity and liking of the restaurant. Second, we found that individual differences in status consumption motivation predicted increased desire to post reviews. Third, we conducted an experiment and found that participants were more likely to review the higher versus lower status restaurant.
