The article presents a theoretical analysis of modern foreign ideas about socio-psychological phenomena and factors associated with tattooing and abandonment among adolescents and young people, as well as the role of body modifications in the development of personality. Based on the analysis done, body modifications are interpreted as symptoms of deformations of the formation of adolescent identity, distorted ideas about spirituality and self-expression. The article discusses the role of such socio-psychological phenomena in the lives of people with tattoos as social identity, social adaptation, discrimination, social biases, temporary perspective, alienation and stigmatization. It also shows the specific interplay between tattooing and socio-psychological factors: inclusion in certain social groups, and their reference, the importance of the quality of contacts and close relationships in which young people enter, significant family influence, significant others, culture and religion.

Summary One cannot write about the relationship of young people and current sports stars in modern society without having previously studied the processes of mediation and globalisation of sport, and the transformation of traditional social values. The goal of the science and practice engaged in sports and education of young people is a constant quest for preserving universal ethical values and reconciling them with the modern-day social processes. This paper will present the result of a survey conducted with adolescents in five different Serbian cities in order to find the answer to the question if sportspersons were their favourite television role-models. According to the results of our survey, 45% of adolescents do not have a favourite TV personality and do not know for sure who that could be. Novak Đoković, who would be the choice of adults for a role model of the young, with 63.2% according to the survey conducted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, scored 3.81% in our survey with adolescents who would chose Novak Đoković as their favourite TV personality. The necessity of raising media literacy of young people with the aim of clear identification of sports role models who are going to improve their quality of life still remains an open issue for further research on this course.

: In the acute myeloid leukemia (AML) setting, research has extensively investigated the existence and relevance of molecular biomarkers, in order to better tailor therapy with newly developed agents and hence improve outcomes and/or save the patient from poorly effective therapies. In particular, in patients with AML, residual disease after therapy does reflect the sum of the contributions of all factors associated with diagnosis and post-diagnosis resistance. The evaluation of minimal/measurable residual disease (MRD) can be considered as a key tool to guide patient’s management and a promising endpoint for clinical trials. In this narrative review, we discuss MRD evaluation as biomarker for tailored therapy in AML patients; we briefly report current evidence on the use of MRD in clinical practice, and comment on the potential ability of MRD in the assessment of the efficacy of new molecules.

Despite the relatively low incidence of acromegaly (60-70 cases per I million inhabitants), this disease has a special place among the heterogeneous group of diseases that lead to the defeat of the locomotor apparatus. The slow growth of the clinical manifestations of acromegaly and as a consequence, late diagnosis, the cause of early disability and premature death of patients. In order to improve the quality of life and social adaptation of patients to date is an obvious need to identify groups of patients with acromegaly, requiring additional therapy for osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Abstract This study aimed to explore determinants that predict doctoral students’ concern about completing their degree in time with a case from a research-focused university in Korea. This study used survey data of 499 doctoral students enrolled in a case university and conducted both quantitative and qualitative analysis. The results from this study indicate that the level of concern for delay in time-to-degree appeared significantly higher for STEM doctoral students and their level of concern is more affected by external environmental factors such as emphasis on research productivity and job market prospects rather than their personal and program characteristics. On the other hand, non-STEM doctoral students were more likely to be influenced by advisor characteristics such as academic rank and quality of supervision. Lastly, this study found that the role of scholarship appeared differently among the discipline. Based from these findings, various policy implications were suggested to improve effectiveness of doctoral training.

Leaving school early is generally associated with relative poor adult outcomes, as indicated by relative low social status, reduced earnings, and poor mental health. Yet, not all young people leaving school early are failing to make it. Some are able to find continuous employment and achieve financial independence. Comparing the experiences of two British Birth cohorts born in 1958 and 1970, respectively, this study examines the trajectories of young people leaving school early, and identifies factors associated with a successful transition, that is achieving financial independence. The study comprises 11,219 individuals born in 1958 and 9,541 born in 1970 following their lives from childhood into adulthood. While the majority of young people born in 1958 left school at age 16 to enter the labor market, increasing numbers of young people born in 1970 are participating in further and higher education. In both cohorts those young people who left school early and who succeeded in reaching financial independence by age 34 showed higher school motivation than those who failed to make it. The findings highlight the importance of building up positive attitudes for learning among children and their parents, as these factors have long-term beneficial effects, even for those who are leaving school early. Moreover, the role of macro-economic circumstances has to be acknowledged for a better understanding of variation in transition experiences in times of social change.

SYNOPSIS Using a sample of 2,533 Big 4 alumni, we examine factors associated with alumni's proclivity to benefit their former firm (post-employment citizenship). Based on social exchange theory, we predict and find that alumni who perceive their firm treated them fairly and adequately supported them during their time with the firm are more inclined to engage in post-employment citizenship. We provide theoretical and practical contributions to the literature by also investigating the role of post-employment experiences on alumni's commitment to the firm and citizenship behavior. Although we predict and find that firm commitment decreases after individuals exit the firm, we find that formal and informal alumni outreach activities appear to help mitigate this decline. Although most prior research on public accounting alumni models “alumni affiliation” as a binary trait, we illustrate that the nature and quality of alumni affiliation is variable and identify some of the underlying mechanisms influencing alumni behavior.
