The article is devoted to the urgent problem of finding ways of social integration of senior citizens  to the conditions of the rapidly changing society. The main idea is to use the resources of life-long education for providing retired people  with the conditions to obtain information about the world on a systematic basis. The subject of the research are the form and the content of senior citizens’ lifelong education that is aimed at preserving their active life style and enriching their intrapersonal potential. The article gives the social-pedagogical model of lifelong uducation of elderly people that corresponds to their needs, and describes  the author's conceptual basis (openness of education, voluntariness, focus on the learners’ needs) and the content of the model (giving knowledge, developing skills, interaction and self-development training). The methods of the research are modeling and pedagogical natural experiment. The five-year experience of implementing the model of senior citizens’ lifelong education in the form of  "University of the Third Age" allows the authors to conclude that it is effective. In the students’ opinion, the educational programs of "University of the Third Age" meet their cognitive needs, provide their social integration, help them to maintain active life style, increase their satisfaction with the quality of their life. Thus, higher educational institutions can and should become the place where senior citizens can get education and training.

This paper examines the meaning of social dancing for older people. It is based on a one-year qualitative research project, which is seeking to explore the experiences of social dance for people aged 60 years or more who attend various dance events in Essex and south-east London. The findings suggest that the social dance experience is not only or simply a beneficial physical experience for older people, it also bestows other significant benefits for those who enter the third age and beyond. It can provide continuity within change. It offers an opportunity to be sociable and have fun in ways that both reflect, and avowedly move beyond, the dancers' teenage years. It promotes a welcome sense of a community spirit. It is a way of becoming visible and aesthetically pleasing, and it bestows a sense of worth and achievement in skills learnt through dancing. Last but not least, dancers can experience the joy of a fit and able body in both real and mythic senses.

ABSTRACTThis paper concerns the social divisions of later life. Although research in this field has focused on class, gender and, more recently, sexuality as sources of division in later life, the division between the fit and the frail has tended to be ignored or viewed as an outcome of these other divisions. This paper challenges this assumption, arguing that corporeality constitutes a major social division in later life. This in many ways prefigures a return to the 19th-century categorisation of those ‘impotent through age’, whose position was among the most abject in society. Their ‘impotence’ was framed by an inability to engage in paid labour. Improved living standards during and after working life saw age's impotence fade in significance and in the immediate post-war era, social concern turned towards the relative poverty of pensioners. Subsequent demographic ageing and the expanding cultures of the third age have undermined the homogeneity of retirement. Frailty has become a major source of social division, separating those who are merely older from those who are too old. This division excludes the ‘unsuccessfully’ aged from utilising the widening range of material and social goods that characterise the third age. It is this social divide rather than those of past occupation or income that is becoming a more salient line of fracture in later life.

Resumo: O presente trabalho objetiva desnaturalizar a categoria da terceira idade. A partir da revisão bibliográfica de alguns autores importantes no campo da Gerontologia e no diálogo com Foucault, Deleuze e Guattari argumentamos que a produção desta subjetividade "novo velho" articula-se a outros vetores de existencialização presentes no contemporâneo. Abstract: This paper argues the third age cathegory like a natural stage of life and shows that it is a historical product. After a bibliographyc revision of some important Gerontology’s authors and using the work of Foucault, Deleuze and Guattari we be able to say that "new old people" represent an artificial form to designate the elderly people which is a production of many factors on contemporary society. Resumo: Relato de experiência da intervenção sociocultural no bairro Coronel José Pinto na cidade de Feira de Santana – BA, desenvolvida por dezessete alunas do Programa Universidade Aberta à Terceira Idade da Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (UATI/UEFS). Trata-se de uma estratégia alternativa de ampliação das ações da UATI utilizando-se do potencial das alunas como multiplicadoras para fazer um levantamento sistemático de dados sobre o perfil socioeconômico e cultural de 603 idosos residentes no bairro. Essa iniciativa, sob orientação do Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas da Terceira Idade (NEPTI), tem como eixo norteador a concepção de educação ao longo toda a vida, na perspectiva de delinear pautas sociais e culturais de ação solidária que possibilitem o resgate da consciência social dos idosos na luta pelo reconhecimento de direitos sociais, de sua autonomia, capacidade de integração e participação na sociedade. Constitui-se assim, em um projeto de revalorização do bairro que integra a ação solidária e cidadã das alunas/idosos da UATI e dos idosos residentes no bairro, tendo como resultante das ações empreendidas a criação do Grupo de Convivência Viver Feliz. Abstract: This is a report of an experience of socio-cultural intervention in Colonel José Pinto district in the city of Feira de Santana – Bahia, developed by seventeen students of the Program Open University to the Third Age of the State University of Feira de Santana (UATI/UEFS). It is an alternative strategy of amplification of the actions of the UATI using the students potential as multipliers to make a systematic collection of data on the socio-economic and cultural profile of 603 seniors living in that district. The initiative under the guidance of the Nucleus of Studies and Research of the Third Age (NEPTI), has as it basic principle the concept of education as a lifetime process with the purpose of delineating social and cultural lists of soldary action that facilitate the ransom of the senior’s social conscience in the struggle for the recognition of their social rights, autonomy and the capacity to participate in the life of society. It is therefore a project of revaluation of the district that integrates the solidary action of senior citizens that study in the UATI and those who live in that district. Keywords: Third Age. Objective: While the process of social inclusion have promoted respect for the person with mental disability, the stigma against this individual is still very present in society, so that individual identified from their difference, now identified as being a weak, fragile and sometimes abnormal and identified as someone with a determination that can break barriers, even the difference. Considering that the social integration of individuals with disabilities still means a great challenge for society, this study sought to discuss issues related to targeted assistance to the population with mental disabilities within this integration process. The way society perceives and relates to people with disabilities is a repetition of the speech and behavior of its own professionals and programs involved in social integration and rehabilitation of these individuals.Conclusion: The educational institutions of human resources, and assistance programs aimed at the disabled, need to promote reflections on the densest kind of discourse and practices used in everyday life of these people and their families. They should not act based on rejudice.

The social dynamics in post-conflict Ambon, Maluku, 1999-2004, indicated that even though people were segregated in the ​​Islamic-Christian areas, gradually social integration began to occur naturally. The process of integration that occurred also gave birth to new values ​​and inclusive views that give hope to future peace building. Using the theory of social integration of dynamic adaptation of the Parsonian structural-functional classic paradigm and combined with a qualitative research model, this study successfully formulated several important findings. First, social integration occurred in the city of Ambon could run naturally through economic interactions, consensus on political balance and inclusive religious spirit. In addition, the presence of public spaces such as offices, schools, malls and coffee shops served as a natural integration medium that is increasingly important in the dynamics of the society. Second, the new social integration has created an increasingly important meaning that leads to a model of active harmony characterized by a process of the increasingly active social interaction between different religions, as well as strengthening pluralism and multiculturalism insight due to campaign by educational institutions and civil society groups. Third, this study also reminds us that although there has been a process of the increasingly positive social integration in Ambon city, people still need to be aware of the growth of radical religious ideologies at a certain level, and also of strengthening identity politics in the long run that will potentially give birth to primordial and ethnocentric attitudes that are harmful to the development of peace.

Resumo: O envelhecimento ainda é visto como uma etapa de dificuldades e bastante negligenciada. A mulher, em especial, é privada de expressar seus sentimentos ou mesmo de praticar atividades que lhe proporcionem prazer. O desafio está em adotar atividades que permitam o bem-estar dessa população. Surgem as danças circulares sagradas, em que as participantes se expressam pelo movimento, utilizando somente o corpo, participando ativamente de suas transformações e da modificação social. Assim, realizou-se uma pesquisa de campo com doze mulheres, praticantes das danças circulares, no Centro Livre de Artes, localizado em Goiânia (GO), com o intuito de identificar os benefícios destas danças na vida das participantes. De posse dos dados, procurou-se correlacioná-los à Terapia Ocupacional, profissão que busca a manutenção da autonomia e independência do indivíduo bem como sua integração social, a qual pode colaborar com esta prática, e vice-versa, para oferecer melhor qualidade de vida às idosas. The woman, especially, it is deprived of expressing their feelings or even of practicing activities that provide him/her pleasure. The challenge is in adopting activities to allow the well-being of that population. The sacred circular dances appear, in that the participants are expressed by the movement, using only the body, participating actively of their transformations and of the social modification. Like this, did took place a field research with twelve women, apprentices of the circular dances, in the Center Free from Arts, located in Goiânia (GO), with the intention of identifying the benefits of these dances in the participants' life. From ownership of the data, it tried to correlate them to the Occupational therapy, profession that looks for the maintenance of the autonomy and the individual's independence as well as his/her social integration, which can collaborate with this practice, and the opposite, to offer better life quality to the seniors. Modern seniors who are characterized by good health at the end of their professional activity engage in new forms of activity. Some of them are involved in the activities of universities of the third age, belong to the Family of Radio Maryja, are volunteers or use various forms of religious tourism and pilgrimages. Many manifestations of their activity come from the religiosity of seniors. The growing religiosity of seniors requires a systematic catechesis that helps them in its development. The church emphasizes that this catechesis should be adapted to the situation of a senior. Catechesis helps to read the religious meaning of this stage of life and to strengthen the motivation for Christian presence in the family and environment. Therefore, this catechesis should strengthen religious interest in faith, shape and sustain the motivation of Christian activity, in the Church and in the world. This is reflected in the Christian involvement in family upbringing, in the ecclesial community, for the social good and also in an attractive way of spending free time.

The article substantiates the need to create an Atlas of «silver» professions for «young» pensioners and pre-retirees. Similar to the atlas of New Professions, it is considered as a navigator of the «third age» people in the education and labour market. The current state of «silver» education and the «silver» labour market requires the elaboration and implementation of a proactive educational and socio-labour policy capable of coordinating the trends in the development of education, the sphere of labour with the interests and needs of the older generation of Russians. The social technology of designing «silver» professions and places of employment for the «third age» people is considered, taking into account the Russian and foreign experience of using this method of social engineering.
