This article was prepared for the 120th anniversary of the Kazan Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. The paper describes the main stages of the institutes development since its founding as the Kazan Bacteriological Institute at Kazan University in 1900. Until 2005, the institute belonged to the system of the Ministry of Health, and later, among 28 Federal State Institutions of Science, it entered the Rospotrebnadzor system. The information on priority research and the contribution of the institute to the achievements of domestic health care and the federal service for supervision in the field of consumer protection over the 120-year history of its activity are presented. The data on ongoing research and development, development prospects also are presented. The article was prepared using documents from the archives of Kazan Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Kazan Medical University and Kazan Federal University, the National Archives of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the memoirs of employees of the Kazan Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology.

In coordination with the the United States of America’s Fulbright Program for Visiting Scholars, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan invited a neonatologist from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (Nashville, TN, USA) to Baku to discuss the advanced care of and application of available technologies to care for critically ill and premature infants. One of the main focuses of this visit was to introduce a new method for the administration of pulmonary surfactant through the placement and use of the laryngeal mask airway. Training consisted of both theoretical and practical sessions held at the Shaki Perinatal Centre, Ganja Perinatal Centre, Azerbaijan Medical University, Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics, Scientific Research Institute of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Republican (Central, National) Perinatal Centre and Republican (Central, National) Clinical Hospital. Nearly two hundred neonatal physicians were trained to use this device. The objective of this paper is to review Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome and discuss treatment of this common neonatal problem with a laryngeal mask airway and the instillation of surfactant.

The article is devoted to the history of the formation and development of science in Karakalpakstan. It is stated that in 1931 the Karakalpak Integrated Research Institute was established in Turtkul. In the pre-war period, this institute was reorganized several times, as a result of which difficulties arose in coordinating scientific and research work in Karakalpakstan. In 1947, it was transferred to the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. In 1959, the Karakalpak affiliate of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic was organized on the basis of the Karakalpak Integrated Research Institute, which made it possible to coordinate and develop fundamental scientific research in the republic. The scientists focused on topical issues of the development of the economy and culture of the republic, in particular, the study of natural resources, material and spiritual culture of the Karakalpak people. The author claims that a new stage in the development of this scientific center begins in 1991, when the Karakalpak affiliate of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan receives the status of the Karakalpak branch. The author critically assesses the period of development of science in Karakalpakstan in the 1990s, while claiming that this scientific institution has risen to new stages of its development and certain achievements have been achieved. The article was prepared for the 120th anniversary of the Kazan Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the 110th anniversary of the birth of the academician, laureate of the USSR State Prize, the author of fundamental guidelines on allergology and pathological physiology, an honorary member of scientific societies of many countries Andrei Dmitrievich Ado who is a representative of the famous dynasty of scientists and doctors of Mislawski-Ado. The paper presents materials about the dynasty A.A. Mislavsky, N.A. Mislavsky, A.N. Mislavsky and others; information about the Kazan period of A.D. Ado between 1938 and 1952 during his work at Kazan Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology (Kazan Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology until 1942). The estimation of productivity, crop capacity in selected apple hybrids in the Republic of Tatarstan is given. A significant variability in productivity and crop capacity in selected hybrids has been established. The share of influence on the variability of productivity, yield in selective hybrids of the genotype, the conditions of the year and the interaction of the genotype with the conditions of the year is determined. According to the productivity, crop capacity in the Republic of Tatarstan, selected apple hybrids are provided: 8-23 (63), 29-56 (71), 16-71 (71). They are recommended to be used as sources in the selection of apple trees for productivity, yield.

The article analyzes the main milestones of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise during one hundred and five years of activity, selected scientific developments of the Institute, and highlighted the contribution of the employees of this institution to the development of forensic science and the formation of the methodological foundations of forensic expertology. It is disclosed the legal basis for the creation of the Cabinet of Scientific and Forensic Expertise under the Prosecutor of the Kyiv Judicial Chamber in 1913, its activity in first years are described, which confirms the national significance of the expert institution. The article reveals the stages in history of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise related to the national revolution of 1917-1921 years, World War II on the territory of Ukraine, update of the criminal and criminal procedural legislation in the 1960s, proclamation of the Ukrainian independence. The author made conclusions about the role of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise in the implementation of justice in Ukraine. The article was prepared for the 100th anniversary of the Department of Microbiology named after academician V.M. Aristovsky of Kazan state medical university and the 120th anniversary of the Kazan Scientific research institute of epidemiology and microbiology. The paper presents the main stages of the general history of the Department of Microbiology of KSMU and the Kazan bacteriological institute (later KNIIEM), highlights the formation of the Kazan school of microbiologists, provides brief biographical information of employees of the Department of Microbiology, whose activities were also associated with KNIIEM. The article was prepared using primary sources: publications, the recollections of the employees of the Department of Microbiology and KNIIEM, documents from the archives of KSMU and KNIIEM, as well as the National archives of the Republic of Tatarstan, publications of the colleagues of the Department of Microbiology Military medical Academy and Stavropol state medical university. The main scientific achievements of representatives of the Kazan school of microbiologists, their scientific contribution to the development of microbiology and the current state of educational and scientific work of the department are described.

Long-term data on the analysis of the biochemical composition of the main components of honeysuckle varieties of various ecological and geographical origin grown under the conditions of the Kamchatka Territory are presented. The purpose of the research was to study collection varieties of honeysuckle by the content of the main biologically active components and to isolate valuable ones with a high content of useful substances for subsequent selection work to improve the quality of the chemical composition of berries. The object of the study is the varieties of honeysuckle was selected by the M.A. Lisavenko Kamchatka Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture, FSBSI NIISS them., Pavlovsk experimental station VIR. Based on long-term studies, from 2015 to 2019, for each indicator varieties with the optimal value of the trait and its stability were identified. It was found that the promising ascorbic acid sources (from 50,8 to 56,9 mg%) include the varieties Slastena, Darinka, Gerda, Bakcharskiy velikan, Leningradskiy velikan; dry matter (15,2 – 15,6%) – Azure, Bakcharskiy velikan; sugars (10,2-11,3%) – Cinderella, Gerda, Violet, Leningradskiy velikan; low acidity (1,8-2,5%) – Slastena, Darinka, Elena, Kuvshinkovidnaya, Cinderella, Gerda, Bakcharskiy velikan, Morena, Nymph, Violet, Leningradskiy velikan; excellent taste (4,5-5,0 points) – Slastena, Darinka, Elena, Assol, Gerda, Bakcharskiy velikan, Velvet, Leningradskiy velikan, Violet, Morena; high sugar-acid index (7,2-9,4) – Darinka, Elena, Cinderella, Gerda, Violet, Velvet, Leningradskiy velikan; a complex of the main biologically active substances – Slastena, Darinka, Elena, Gerda, Bakcharskiy velikan, Violet, Leningradskiy velikan. The selected varieties are used at the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution of the Kamchatka Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture as donors when creating a new variety.
