Abstract: The objective of this study is to improve the students’ speaking participation and performance with the use of social and affective strategies. The research design used in the study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The stage of CAR was adapted from Kemmis and McTaggart (1988) which consists of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of the research were 30 seventh graders of class VII-H at SMPN 9 Malang in the second semester of academic year 2019/2020. This study was conducted directly at SMPN 9 Malang in one cycle of CAR in three meetings. To collect the data, an interview guide, an observation checklist, a field note and a speaking rubric were used as instruments. The findings of study showed that the students’ speaking participation and performance successfully improved after implementing social and affective strategies. The criterion of success set by the researcher was 70. The mean speaking score for the preliminary test and the final test increased from 60.4 to 77.2. The use of social and affective strategies improved students’ interaction with other students as well as managed their attitude, emotion, and motivation in speaking. Keywords: speaking skill, social strategy, affective strategy Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan partisipasi dan performa berbicara siswa dalam Bahasa Inggris dengan penggunaan Strategi Sosial dan Afektif. Desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Tahapan PTK yang digunakan diadaptasi dari Kemmis dan McTaggart (1988) yang terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Terdapat sejumlah 30 siswa yang berasal dari kelas VII-H SMPN 9 Malang semester genap tahun ajaran 2019/2020 yang terlibat sebagai subjek penelitian. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan langsung di SMPN 9 Malang dalam satu siklus PTK yang terdiri dari tiga pertemuan. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan pedoman wawancara, checklist observasi, catatan lapangan dan rubrik berbicara sebagai instrumen. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa partisipasi dan performa berbicara siswa berhasil ditingkatkan setelah menerapkan Strategi Sosial dan Afektif. Kriteria keberhasilan yang ditetapkan peneliti adalah 70. Nilai rata-rata berbicara siswa sebelum kedua strategi diterapkan dan setelah diterapkan terbukti meningkat dari 60,4 menjadi 77,2. Penggunaan Strategi Sosial dan Afektif meningkatkan interaksi siswa dengan siswa lain serta mengatur sikap, emosi, dan motivasi mereka dalam berbicara. This study is purpose to find out the use of numbered heads together (NHT) method to improve student’s writing recount text at first grade student of MA Darul Aminin NW Aikmal in academic year 2014/2015. There were 35 students of MA Darul Aminin NW Aikmual as the subject of the study. The type of this study was classroom action research. This action study was done in two cycles. Each cycle consist of four steps; Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. The data gathering used observation table check list and field note to obtain information about teacher, the student’s activities and performance during the implementation of NHT method and quantitative data was gained from student’s result writing test. The data analyzed use qualitative and quantitative approach. Based on the data analyzed was gotten that first, the students’ ability in writing recount texts could be improved by using NHT method. Before the study was done, the mean score of students from 50.14 to 75.31 with percentage (25.71%) to (78.12%) is higher than criteria minimum (KKM). The students got score up than 70 there were 25 students with percentage 78.12%. Second, the students’ activeness increased from cycle 1 to cycle 2. Finally, it can be taken conclusion that there was the significant effect of Number heads Together (NHT) method to increase the students’ writing ability in recount text at first grade student of MA Darul Aminin NW in academic year 2014/2015.

This study was aimed at finding the effect of small group discussion in improving speaking skills at the seventh year students of SMA Plus NW. This research was conducted as quasi-experiment using a quantitative approach with One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The population of the research was the eleventh-grade students of SMA Plus Munirul Arifin NW Praya in academic year 2018/2019. Each class consists of 28 students. The total population was 95 students. In this study, the researcher took one class as a sample. The class was eleventh Grade of MIPA 1 consisting of 28 students as the experiment. The researcher gave treatment to the experimental group and it used Small Group Discussion as the treatment of teaching speaking. The purpose of using the Small Group Discussion was to give new inspiration that can be applied in teaching speaking. Referring to the result pre-test and post-test showed that the sig (2 tailed) > 0.05, it means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. So the use of Small Group Discussion in teaching speaking is effective. The value of t-test was higher than the t-value of t-table (t-test 8.5148 > t-table 2.006). It showed that teaching speaking using small group discussion has a positive effect to improve students' speaking skill. Besides that, the result of the mean of post-test was higher than the mean of pre-test (M2 = 18.43 > M1 = 14.25). It means that teaching speaking by using small group discussion was more effective than teaching speaking without using small group discussion. In addition, small group discussion can improve students' speaking skill in the eleventh-grade students of SMA Plus Munirul Arifin NW Praya.

The objectives of this research were to find out : whether or not the use of Reading Circles increase students speaking skill.This research employed Pre-experimental method that applied monolingual class. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students in academic year 2015-2016. There were 236 students spread in 8 classes ( XI AK.1, XI AK.2, XI AK.3, XI ADM.1 , XI ADM.2, XI ADM.3, XI TN.1 and XI TN.2) and each class consist appropriately 28-30 students. The researcher took cluster random sampling technique and chose XI ADM.1 as the representative and the number of total sample is 28 students.The data of the research were collected by using two kinds of instruments, namely speaking test. Speaking test (interview) was used to obtain data of the students’ speaking skill.The result of data analysis showed that there was significant difference between the students’ score after they were taught by using Reading Circles and before they were taught by Reading Circles. It was proved by the mean score of the post-test which was higher than the mean score of pre-test (78.50>47.25). Furthermore, the result of the p-value was lower than α (0.000<0.05) which means that H1 was accepted. Based on data analysis, the research concluded that : the use of Reading Circles increase students’ speaking skill at SMK Negeri 1 Pancarijang

This research was conducted in order to improve students’ speaking skill by using digital storytelling at SMA Swasta Palapa Medan. Digital storytelling is the combination of recount text, sound effects, music, images, videos and InShot Application. This is Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR). The research subjects of this CAR are the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Palapa Medan in Class MIPA in the Academic Year of 2020/2021. The research findings showed that teaching speaking skill through digital storytelling at SMA Swasta Palapa Medan could improve the students’ speaking skill. The result of each test showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test is 55.74 with 11% of the students got score ≥70, in formative test the mean score is 64,44 with 37% of the students got score ≥70, and in post-test the mean score is 81,11 with 93% of the students got score ≥70. The writer concluded that the use of digital storytelling could improve the speaking skill of SMA Swasta Palapa Medan. On the other hand, the students’ responses towards the method of the teaching sound good because above 80% of the students are interested, motivated and enthusiastic in learning English speaking skill through the use of digital storytelling.

This research aimed to improve the students’ speaking skill in English lesson by puppets games. This research was conducted by using Quasi-Experimental. The subject of this research was Class X MIPA of SMA Perjuangan Depok 2018/2019 academic year, which consisted of 29 students. The objective of this research was to teaching students’ speaking skill in English Lesson by using Puppets Games at Ten Grade of SMA Perjuangan Depok. The data were gathered through quantitative and qualitative data. The result of this research showed that there was increasing of students in speaking skill. The mean of pre-test was 58.34. The mean of post-test was 77. Based on the result analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significance using puppets games in teaching speaking at tenth grade senior high school. The result showed that the result of T-test calculation is 13.090 more higher than T-table 5%, it gained score 2.045. Therefore, it can be conclude that teaching speaking using puppets games is effective to improve speaking skill at the tenth grade of SMA Perjuangan Depok. The results of this study are expected to be useful to related parties such as principals, teachers, parents, students and further researchers.

AbstractThe objectives of this research were to improve the students’ speaking skill and students’ interest about learning speaking by using Project-based learning. This research used classroom action research method in which the subject was the 25 ten graders of SMA PSKD 7 Depok and the subjects consisted thirteen males and twelve females. The quantitative data were analyzed by computing the students’ score of pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test2. Based on the data results, the mean score of pre-test, post-test in Cycle1, and post-test Cycle2 were respectively 49.12, 66.4, and 70.08. The gain of pre-test to post-test1 was 35.17%, the gain of post-test1in cycle 1 to post-test cycle 2 was 6.14%, and from the pre-test to post-test 2 in cycle 2 was 43.48%. The qualitative data were described based on interview and field-note to the improvement of students’ speaking skill. The findings showed that Project-based learning could improve the students’ speaking skill, it is suggested to use this method in teaching speaking skill. Keywords: CAR, Project-based learning

Speaking skill is the skill that give us the ability to communicate effectively. The objective of the study were: (1) to find out the difficulties in reporting procedure text, (2) to find out the reason why do the students feel difficulties in reporting the procedure text, (3) to analysis why the difficulties occur at the studentsspeaking in reporting a procedure text.The population was all of the students first grade X-IPA of SMA Methodist 7 Medan 2019/2020 academic year. The sample of this research was the first grade X IPA consist 29 students in the class. The purpose of this study was to determine student knowledge in the text of the reporting procedure to determine student difficulties in the text of the reporting procedure. This researchers used qualitative method to know and examine the difficulties that occur and strive to resolve existing problems in speaking. From the results of research that has been conducted research, researchers found several that are classified through analysis, namly related to students difficulty in speaking, lack of vocabulary used, lack of pronouncation, and lack of knowledge about listening. And researchers used five aspects in giving scored namly Fluency, pronouncation, Accuracy, Clarity, and Performance skill.The researchers concluded in the other words that there was a significant analysis of students difficulties in reporting procedure text. It is suggested that English Teachers must practicing they speaking skill.

The aim of the research is to know the English vocabulary mastery of the students of SMP Bhakti Malang taught by using anagram games,  therefore this research used classroom action research (CAR). This research uses individual CAR that focuses only in one classroom. In addition, the researcher acts as the practitioner that conducts the teaching and learning activity by using Anagram game and as an observer that monitored the teacher’s teaching and also the process of teaching. The subjects of the study are eighth grades of SMP Bhakti Malang in second semester at academic year 2019-2020 class 8A is chosen because their English achievement has not provided satisfactory result. The result shows that there was an improvement of the students’ mean score from preliminary test 56.66 (under the minimum passing grade) increase to 74.25 (pass the minimum passing grade) in test 1 and up to 84.44 in test 2. The standard deviation which decreased from 12.50 in test 1 to 8.34 in test 2 indicates that the students’ score close around the mean score which have passed the minimum passing grade.The success of the Anagram strategy in improving the students’ vocabulary is also supported by the creativity of the teacher in designing appropriate media and material, designing the lesson plan, varying classroom activities and building the cooperation among the students.

Model United Nations promotes students’ learning opportunities in three successive ways: optimizing individual development through un-moderated caucus, growing competitiveness through working paper forum and sharpening problem solving skill through draft -resolution forum. This is a classroom action research that investigates the improvement of students’ speaking skill taught by using Model United Nations at Pamulang University. Two cycles were conducted where the first cycle consisted of four meetings and the second cycle consisted of three meetings. The population of this study was the fourth semester students in the academic year of 2017/2018. Both quantitative and qualitative data were employed to analyze the data. Quantitative data were in the form of oral test scores taken from students’ public speaking skill. On the other hand, qualitative data were in the form of observation sheet, questionnaire sheet, and documentation. The treatments signified improvements of students’ public speaking skill in each cycle which is represented by the mean score. The mean score of pre-test was 58.775. It improved to 69.525 in the first cycle, and became 78.675 in the last cycle. The observation sheet, questionnaire sheets and documents proved that students performed active participation and engagement during the instructional process that fostered better skill in public speaking.

Abstract   This classroom action research was done in the area of speaking.  It was found that the eleventh grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar got difficulty  in communicating and delivering ideas. The objective of this study was to figure out whether or not speaking  skill of the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved  through  British  Parliamentary  Style Debate Technique.  The research was undertaken based on the result of the interview with the teacher who taught the students. Pre-test was then carried out, and it was found that the subjects’ speaking skill was low. In order to settle down the problem, British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique was implemented as the technique to improve the subjects’ speaking skill. The study was conducted in two cycles. Furthermore, the result of post- test in each cycle showed that there were significant improvements on the subjects’ speaking skill after British  Parliamentary  Style  Debate technique  was applied. After the treatment of pre-test, the reflection or post-test was administered.   The mean figure of the reflection or post-test scores obtained by the subjects under study in cycle I was 70.52. and in cycle  II  was  78.34. In addition, based on the data of the questionnaire, the subjects’ responses towards the application of the technique was positive.  Therefore, it could be concluded that speaking skill of the eleventh- grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 could be improved through British Parliamentary Style Debate Technique.
