Speaking skill is the skill that give us the ability to communicate effectively. The objective of the study were: (1) to find out the difficulties in reporting procedure text, (2) to find out the reason why do the students feel difficulties in reporting the procedure text, (3) to analysis why the difficulties occur at the studentsspeaking in reporting a procedure text.The population was all of the students first grade X-IPA of SMA Methodist 7 Medan 2019/2020 academic year. The sample of this research was the first grade X IPA consist 29 students in the class. The purpose of this study was to determine student knowledge in the text of the reporting procedure to determine student difficulties in the text of the reporting procedure. This researchers used qualitative method to know and examine the difficulties that occur and strive to resolve existing problems in speaking. From the results of research that has been conducted research, researchers found several that are classified through analysis, namly related to students difficulty in speaking, lack of vocabulary used, lack of pronouncation, and lack of knowledge about listening. And researchers used five aspects in giving scored namly Fluency, pronouncation, Accuracy, Clarity, and Performance skill.The researchers concluded in the other words that there was a significant analysis of students difficulties in reporting procedure text. It is suggested that English Teachers must practicing they speaking skill.

This research is motivated by the lack of ability to write simple words first grade students of SD Negeri 014 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam Rokan Hulu. This study aims to improve the ability to write simple words first grade students of SD Negeri 014 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam, held for 1 month. The subjects were students of class I SD Negeri 014 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam academic year 2015/2016 the number of students as many as 7 people, consisting of 5 boys and 2 girls. Form of research is classroom action research. The research instrument consists of instruments and instrument performance data collection activity observation sheet form teacher and student activity. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the ability to write simple words can be enhanced through training methods first grade students of SD Negeri 014 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam. This statement can be accepted, because the students' ability to write simple words increased. Where known from preliminary data the average value of 59.3 or in the medium category. When viewed from the classical completeness, there is 28.6% or 2 students who completed gain value according to standards KKM, which is a minimum of 65. However, after the implementation of training methods, obtained an average value of 67.1 or higher in a category. When viewed from the classical completeness has reached 57.1%, or 4 students, but research has not been successful. Because this study was successful when 85% of students obtaining a minimum value of 65. While on the second cycle, to reach an average value of 80.7 or higher in a category. When viewed from the classical completeness, has acquired all of the students (100%). Thus, the researchers limited the study to the second cycle. Because of the results obtained was clear, that improve the students' first-class students of SD Negeri 014 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam in writing simple words.

The goals of this research are (1) to know what students’ responses toward WH question tehnique; (2) to know whether the WH Question can improve students’ math in English. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The writer described and analyzed the students’ mistakes in speaking skill using local materials. The research was carried out at the first year students of math department in 2016/2017 academic year. It was strated from September 2016 to January 2017. The population was the first semester students of math department in academic year of 2016/2017. The number of population were 21 students. The results of this research were (1) the tudents gave good responses toward the WH Questions learning, and (2) the WH questions improved the Math students’ ability in learning English. Keywords: Speaking, Local-wisdom, WH-questions

The research aims to find out the English Materials need of the students of Genetic Computer School Singapore in Learning English. The quantitative and qualitative method were conducted in this research to provide the description of the students’ needs. In collecting the data, the researcher applied interview for lecturers and questionnaire for the students as the instrument of the research. There were two lecturers and thirty of second-semester students in the 2017-2018 academic year as participants in this research by conducting purposive sampling.The result of this research revealed that students of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) mostly needed two skills in learning English. First, speaking skill that is to communicate in English and to present their final project exam. Second, writing skill is used to do their assignment and final report in English. Language element which most important and needed by the students is vocabulary, then followed by grammar. The interview result showed that in teaching English the lecturers do not have permanent syllabuses for four semesters and the existing materials are design based on lecturers perception, it is not based on students needs. The information of this research as the recommendation for the institution that might be used as guidance to design the English syllabuses.

This  research  used  the  descrivtif  qualitative  method.  The  writer  described  and analyzed the students’ errors in speaking skill  and  the  difficulties  used  the  local materials. The research was carried out at the first year students of english department in 2015/2016 academic year. it was strated from Februari to May 2016. The population was  the  first  semester  students  of  english  department  in  academic  year  of  2015/2016. The number of population was 27 students. The results of this research were: (1) lots of students were able to speak well and few of them were still lack (2) Some of students felt difficult to use some words of local tpoics in speaking

The aims of this research are (1) to describe the procedure of enhancing students’ speaking skill by “gallery walk” technique at the first grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah (plus) Salatiga in academic year 2014/2015. (2) to find out whether the “gallery walk” technique can enhance students’ speaking skill or not and (3) to find out the extent of the use of “gallery walk” technique enhancing students’ speaking skill. The research method that is used in this research is classroom action reserach. The subjects of the research were 34 students in grade X at SMA Muhammadiyah (plus) Salatiga. The researcher uses two cycles; each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and reflection. The result of this research shows that there is an enhancement of the students’ speaking skill using “gallery walk” technique. It can be seen from T-Test calculating in cycle I is 5.09 and cycle II 6.70; T-Table with N = 34 is 2.035. And also the increasing students’ mean score in percentage from cycle I to cycle II with the standardized score (the minimum of passing criteria) is 75,  At the cycle I is 55.88% students and 82.35% in the cycle II. The increasing of score in percentage from cycle I to cycle II is 26.47 %. This indicates that by applying “gallery walk” technique, the students’ speaking skill can be enhanced.

This study is purpose to find out the use of numbered heads together (NHT) method to improve student’s writing recount text at first grade student of MA Darul Aminin NW Aikmal in academic year 2014/2015. There were 35 students of MA Darul Aminin NW Aikmual as the subject of the study. The type of this study was classroom action research. This action study was done in two cycles. Each cycle consist of four steps; Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. The data gathering used observation table check list and field note to obtain information about teacher, the student’s activities and performance during the implementation of NHT method and quantitative data was gained from student’s result writing test. The data analyzed use qualitative and quantitative approach. Based on the data analyzed was gotten that first, the students’ ability in writing recount texts could be improved by using NHT method. Before the study was done, the mean score of students from 50.14 to 75.31 with percentage (25.71%) to (78.12%) is higher than criteria minimum (KKM). The students got score up than 70 there were 25 students with percentage 78.12%. Second, the students’ activeness increased from cycle 1 to cycle 2. Finally, it can be taken conclusion that there was the significant effect of Number heads Together (NHT) method to increase the students’ writing ability in recount text at first grade student of MA Darul Aminin NW in academic year 2014/2015.

Abstract: The objective of this study is to improve the students’ speaking participation and performance with the use of social and affective strategies. The research design used in the study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The stage of CAR was adapted from Kemmis and McTaggart (1988) which consists of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of the research were 30 seventh graders of class VII-H at SMPN 9 Malang in the second semester of academic year 2019/2020. This study was conducted directly at SMPN 9 Malang in one cycle of CAR in three meetings. To collect the data, an interview guide, an observation checklist, a field note and a speaking rubric were used as instruments. The findings of study showed that the students’ speaking participation and performance successfully improved after implementing social and affective strategies. The criterion of success set by the researcher was 70. The mean speaking score for the preliminary test and the final test increased from 60.4 to 77.2. The use of social and affective strategies improved students’ interaction with other students as well as managed their attitude, emotion, and motivation in speaking. Keywords: speaking skill, social strategy, affective strategy Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan partisipasi dan performa berbicara siswa dalam Bahasa Inggris dengan penggunaan Strategi Sosial dan Afektif. Desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Tahapan PTK yang digunakan diadaptasi dari Kemmis dan McTaggart (1988) yang terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Terdapat sejumlah 30 siswa yang berasal dari kelas VII-H SMPN 9 Malang semester genap tahun ajaran 2019/2020 yang terlibat sebagai subjek penelitian. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan langsung di SMPN 9 Malang dalam satu siklus PTK yang terdiri dari tiga pertemuan. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan pedoman wawancara, checklist observasi, catatan lapangan dan rubrik berbicara sebagai instrumen. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa partisipasi dan performa berbicara siswa berhasil ditingkatkan setelah menerapkan Strategi Sosial dan Afektif. Kriteria keberhasilan yang ditetapkan peneliti adalah 70. Nilai rata-rata berbicara siswa sebelum kedua strategi diterapkan dan setelah diterapkan terbukti meningkat dari 60,4 menjadi 77,2. Penggunaan Strategi Sosial dan Afektif meningkatkan interaksi siswa dengan siswa lain serta mengatur sikap, emosi, dan motivasi mereka dalam berbicara. Kata kunci: keterampilan berbicara, strategi social, strategi afektif

This research aimed to find out students’ perception of utilizing podcasts in learning speaking skills. The researchers used a qualitative approach and basic interpretative design to explore students’ perceptions. Three students were involved in this study. They are first-grade students of the vocational high school in the academic year 2019/2020. The data was gathered from the reflective journal and semi-structured interview. To obtain the data, the researchers analyzed it by thematic analysis. Results of this research, researchers classified three aspects that are the instruction in the podcast, the benefits of the podcast, and the use of podcast. The findings illustrated that students had a positive perception of the utilization of podcasts in learning speaking. Students perceive that podcast is interesting media because it has many contents or topics that they can listen and practice their speaking skill whenever they want. They also agree that podcast is beneficial for speaking achievement, for example, students can increase their vocabularies and word pronunciation.

This research was conducted to find out whether the test items are good or weak and need to be revised and the possible cause of why the test items are weak, and to propose the alternative of the revision for the weak items of summative test of second semester of first grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Maiwa for academic year 2018/2019.This research employed quantitative and qualitative method that. The population in this research will be the first grade student of SMP Negeri 1 Maiwa it consist of two classes and the total population are 50 students where automotive Department consists 20 students and Machine-technique department 20 students. The instrument used in this research was the researcher utilizes semi-structured interviews and recorded in qualitative method. The result of this research showed that, for the multiple choice which was consist of 10 items; the index of difficult has the result analysis on average 81.43% of seven items in very easy level, on average 68.75% of two item in medium level and on average 22.50% of one item in difficult level. The discriminating power has the result analysis on average 28.18%. The effectiveness of distracter has the result analysis on average with four choices of answers (A, B, C & D) sequential item number 1 up to 10 namely: A (sangat buruk, baik, buruk, sangat buruk, kunci jawaban, baik, buruk, kunci jawaban, kunci jawaban, kunci jawaban), B (buruk, kunci jawaban, kunci jawaban, kunci jawaban, buruk, baik, kunci jawaban, buruk, sangat buruk, sangat buruk),C (kunci jawaban, buruk, buruk, buruk, kurang baik, kunci jawaban, baik, buruk, buruk, buruk), D (buruk baik, buruk, buruk, baik, kurang baik, buruk, buruk, buruk, buruk). For the essay test which was consist of 15 items; the index of difficult has the result analysis on average 85.91% of five items in very easy level, on average 78.64% of five items in easy level and on average 54.00% of five items in medium level. The discriminating power has the result analysis on average 29.37%.

The aim of this study was to see the effectiveness of Task-Based Language Teaching in Teaching Writing. Writing is very important for students because they can express themselves in writing form and being brave to state their own opinions. Many English teacher got some problem in teaching writing, the teacher must choose a strategy which is suitable on the students conditions. Not only speaking ability that must be taught and applied in the class but also writing ability. The data of this research was students scores in writing procedure text. The population of this study were the first grade and the sample was 31 students of smp berea tondano in academic year 2017/2018. The research used one group pre-test and post-test experiment. The result showed that there was an increase between the pre-test (62,40) and tghe post-test (67,60). In this research, the research used quantitative experimental research as design of this research. Then, the research identified and analyzed based on statistic calculation for getting good result accuratelty, completely and systematically. A teacher should be creative to use various strategy in english teaching moreover teaching writing. In choosing the strategy, the teacher should pay attention to the material will be given.
