Social networking sites have had an impact on the twenty-first century generations of internet user, making it a very active means of communications, particularly among university students. Questions arise about the impact of social networking sites on academic performance and the possibility of using them as an effective educational tool to improve academic performance. The study assesses students’ opinion regarding usage of social networking sites and its impact on their academic performance. Non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to select a sample of ninety-six undergraduate students from seven private universities and they were asked to complete a structured questionnaire set with 18 questions. Descriptive-comparative research design was adopted. The data was subjected to descriptive analysis, particularly percentages and frequency table counts.

Social networking sites are more common to the young generation worldwide. Pakistan’s major population is comprised of young generation. Thus, usage of social networking sites has become the trend among the youth of Pakistan which has strong effect on the student’s performance and habits. Thus, this study aims to examine the impact of social network usage on the university student’s academic performance of Lahore, Pakistan. Cross sectional survey technique has used in the current study. The self-administered questionnaire distributed to the 260 students of four universities of Lahore through convenient random sampling. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data while Chi-square (X2) analysis has performed to test the research hypotheses. The findings of the current study show that the university students of Lahore, Pakistan are using different social networking sites which has negative effect on the student’s academic performance and habits. Int. Social Networking Sites (SNS) including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Flickr and My Space are significantly grown in popularity among youngster and has become powerful media for advertisers as well as advertising industry all around the world. Advertising via social networking platform allows segmentation of advertising activities based on customers’ demographic. Hence, it is different from social medial advertising which is public-focused based. Thus, this study aims to explore does the important success factors for social media advertising still matter toward youngsters’ perception on social networking advertising. As such, the study assess the relationships between five main social media advertising success factors (informativeness, entertainment, credibility, irritation and customization) with  youngsters’ perception toward social networking advertising. The study is quantitative based. Data was collected from 274 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Management (FM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) via convenience sampling technique. Data analysis was done via descriptive analysis and Person correlation test. The findings from the study suggested that all the five social media advertising factors are significantly correlated with youngsters’ attitude towards social network advertising. In addition, finding from this study also revealed that credibility or the trustworthiness of social network advertising is viewed by youngsters as the least important factor. Perhaps this is because of youngsters generally view information in social network is lack of reliability and credibility as compare with traditional face to face networking platform.

This study aimed to show the extent of teenagers who represent students Tèbessa University contents of violence and crime that is seen or published or traded them through the media and communication affected, especially through social networking sites and networks, such as Facebook and stringing YouTube and Skype, etc., which may contribute to the formation and strengthening of behaviors negative in these through the following problem: Do you contribute to social networking sites through the implications of violence and crime in a negative impact on the behaviors of the students within the university community ?, also deliberately researcher to sample the estimated inventory of 50 students schooled at the Faculty of Economics and Commercial Sciences and Management Sciences of each section by an estimated 10% of the study population as a whole's (2000) the adoption of simple random sampling technique, the results have also been addressing the adoption system (SPSS) , Which resulted in the results: the presence of a statistically significant correlation between the students' use of social networking sites and the spread of deviant behavior within the university community?, And no statistically significant differences in the adverse effects of the use of social networking sites on the behavior of students depending on the sex variable, the largest of any female average for the benefit of, No statistically significant differences in the adverse effects of the use of social networking sites on the behavior of students depending on the variable physical level ?,No statistically significant differences in the adverse effects of the use of social networking sites on the behavior of the students due to the level of scientific student ?,The study also called attention to the recent media study the impact of the implications of violence and crime across social networking on the behavior of young people and adolescents sites, spreading awareness programs to help solve the problems of this phenomenon.

This study investigates the perception and use of social networking sites among undergraduate students in Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The main purpose of the study is ascertained the popularly used SNS, the purpose of using the SNSs, the perception of students towards SNSs and identity the impact of the use of SNSs by the undergraduate students. The study adopted descriptive research. The population of the study is 300 registered undergraduate students of Niger Delta University Library. Questionnaire was used to collected data. The result shows that Facebook, Google and WhatsApp are the popularly used social networking sites. Social relation, academic learning activities, sharing of information, etc. are the purpose of using social networking sites. The findings also revealed positive perception towards the use of social networking sites and, positive impact of using social networking sites. Arising from the findings some recommendations were made.

The purpose of this research is to study the impact of Social Networking Sites on student academic performance. An online survey was conducted and 628 students of University of Bahrain replied. This research studies and explores the relationships between the use of SNS and students' academic performance. The survey questions (21) were grouped into 8 variables that identify the interest that the students draw from SNS. Furthermore, these variables aim to show the effects of SNS on students' academic performance and the futuristic online and offline paradigms that can enhance teaching methodology. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse the collected data and find correlations between SNS and the students' academic performance. From this research it was found that the SNS have positive and negative impacts on student academic performance. At the end, the authors came up with fruitful recommendations on how to get benefit from the SNS to improve the learning process.


The study has been used to explore the impact of social networking sites amongst the undergraduate women students. In the framework of existing digital media, social networking sites have been known as individuals, by means of the Internet and web application to converse in previously unfeasible ways. It can be predominantly effect of a culture-wide impression shift in the uses and potential of the internet itself. The objectives of the study are to ascertain the different type of social networking sites used by women undergraduate students to scrutinize the level of usage, reason of using social networking sites, to settle on the advantages of using social networking sites and to make out the dangers associated with social networking and to submit strategies to restructure such dangers. The descriptive design has been in use to get responses from a sample size of 115 women undergraduate students who were selected via random sampling techniques. The 115 respondents completed and returned the questionnaire precisely indicating 100% response rate. The outcome of the study discloses that all the women undergraduate students uses social networking sites to expand information, interaction with friends, connecting to their classmates for online study, discussing serious national issues and watching movies etc. There are many advantages of using social networking sites and their menaces combined with social networking and such dangers can be restructured using the strategies available in the work. From the findings, it was recommended that women undergraduate students should attend various awareness program to update on the negative aspects of social networking sites etc. Based on the findings suitable suggestions were also made

The present study aims to observe the impact of extracurricular activities on the academic performance of students at the secondary level in Multan city. All the students at the secondary level in the public sector of Multan city are the population of this study. Three hundred student’s 9th and 10th classes from (two) secondary schools from Multan city were selected. For this study, the researcher uses a simple random sampling technique. A total of 30 survey questions were developed based on Likert-scale type statement options (SA, A, N, DA, SDA), keeping in mind the objective of the study. The data were tabulated and analyzed by using descriptive statistical techniques. The MS-Excel is used for the descriptive analysis of the data. The study concluded that there is a severe need for the introduction of extracurricular activities, orientation programs for the students of secondary level. Extracurricular activities have a positive influence on students' life by improving their behavior, academic performance, better exam scores, more regular class attendance, a better self-image, due to these aspects which makes the students life more successful. Finally, the study suggests that Government should support the introduction of extracurricular activities in all secondary schools, allocate special funds, appoint special trainers/teachers, and fix their pay equal to other subject teachers.

Social networking sites have created a new social dimension where individuals can increase their social awareness by keeping in touch with old friends, making new friends, getting new data or products and gathering information in other aspects of everyday life. This helps individuals become more knowledgeable, which is very beneficial for students. Based on this, the paper proposed a model of perceived influence of academic performance using social networking. The proposed model was interpreted based on the academic performance of FSKSM (Faculty of computer Science and Information systems) students using SNSs in UTM. The study confirmed that majority of students agreed the social networking media have positive influence on their academic performance. Hence there is need for FSKSM policy makers to evolve strategies to guide and ensure that social networking sites are adopted mostly for academic purposes especially among the undergraduate students of the faculty.

Background: A social networking site is an online platform that allows users to create a public profile and interact with other users on the website. The emergence of Social Networking Sites has broadened the base of contact, interaction and communication among people living round the globe via internet. Millions of students are logging in to these social networking sites, everyday. That’s why many students have been blaming various social networking sites for their steady decrease in grade point averages and has affected their study time, poor grammar and wrong spellings when socializing on social media as well as diverting their attention from their studies. The objective of this research is to find the impact and perception of social networking sites on academic performance of medical students. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study design conducted among 230 Medical students of MBBS, BPH, Pharmacy and BN Nursing’s students. A well-structured questionnaire was prepared and which were distributed among students using probability sampling technique (random number table). Results: The response of 230 students was collected by using well structure questionnaire. The mean±SD of students age was 21.87±2.16 years. Majority of the students were in the age group 20-25 years. Majority of them were female by gender and Hindu by religion. They most commonly used social networking site was face book/messenger (48.7%) followed by YouTube (41.3%). The main aim of using these sites is to update with their family, friends and for entertainment. Nearly 60% students told that there are negative effects of using social networking sites. And only 15.6% students used these sites only for academic purpose. Conclusions: This study revealed that majority of the students used mobile phone as a device and Wi-Fi in their place of residence. The overall perception of students towards social networking sites is positive. Excessive use of these sites decreases their academic performance which conclude that there is Negative relationship between the use of social networking sites and academic performance which in turn negatively affect their academic results.
