The song "Under the Same Sun" firstly released in 1993 is a song written by famous rock group music namely Scorpions. This group is coming from Hannover, Germany. Though renowned phenomenally as a music group with loud genre but this song is a ballad one because it really tells the story of real-life people in the war zone while citizens of the world just show a little caring concern. The song portraits a common view on the hopelessness of victimized people in war zone who need for sympathy and empathy. Otherwise, they get no positive response from other people who live in comfort. This paper is a library research with a descriptive qualitative approach to investigate the discourse analysis of a song lyric. The approach is then used to analyze the data from the song lyrics. The discourse aims at finding the discourse on its grammatical aspect, lexical aspects, situational aspect, and contextual aspect. The study’s discourse analysis on the song lyrics reveals several features. From the grammatical aspect of this song revealed the references in the form of pronoun and demonstrative, ellipsis and conjunction. While in the lexical aspects, it found only two components, namely reps and collocation. The contextual analysis showed the cultural context and the context of the situation. Meanwhile, the situational context itself is divided into physical context, epistemic context and social context.Keywords: Grammatical Aspect, Lexical Aspect, Contextual Aspect

This library research aimed at finding the three aspect of discourse analysis: contextual, grammatical and lexical aspect of Michael Heart’s song lyrics entitled “We will not go down (Song for Gaza). After analysis it can be found that the life experience and background of the song writer and singer is closely related to the idea proposes within the song lyrics. Whereas, the result of the grammatical and lexical analysis gives a depiction of cohesion and coherence of the song discourse of “We will not Go Down (Song for Gaza)”. There are eight (8) forms of first plural personal pronoun of “We”, four (4) second plural personal pronoun of ‘You” and seven (7) third personal pronouns in various forms. On the other side, it is difficult to find lexical aspects of this song discourse. There is only one form of anaphoric repetition. The repetition of the sentence “We Will Not Go Down” seven times is to influence the hearers whether they are supporters or opponents of the idea brought by the singer/the author that whatever happens Palestinian people will not surrender to every force, nation or people that want to colonialize them.

Oral and written discourse have a textual function that contains of ideas which expressed by participants. Through discourse, community members also have the opportunity to establish communication and relationships and can interact socially and cooperate. This discourse for communication also has a close relationship with one's ability to master the four language skills. Because by mastering the four language skills and knowing the function of language, a person will easily use both oral and written discourse to communicate and interact socially. Song lyrics are one example of written discourse that generally uses beautiful and figurative language. The lyrics of the song 'Perfect' sung by Ed Sheeran and 'Marry You' sung by Bruno Mars are lyrics which also use beautiful, melancholy, sentimental, and romantic language to attract young music lovers. The lyrics of the song are one example of how written discourse can be used to communicate using seductive language with musical accompaniment and can be used as a tool to form social interactions on social media such as: facebook, twitter, radio, and television. The lyrics of the song are analyzed the content of the discourse and examined from the perspective of the songwriter's intentions, goals, and thoughts; The context and inference aspects contained in both song lyrics; Grammatical and lexical aspects to see the song's cohesion and coherence. The results of discourse analysis on grammatical and lexical aspects provide a coherent and beautiful picture of the song 'Perfect' and 'Marry You'. From the grammatical aspect, it can be seen that the reference types of the first person singular (I, speaker) and second persona reference (You, speech partner) in the two lyrics are very dominant. The lexical aspect is not very often found in the song's poetic discourse but there are full repetitions in several lines (in chorus) that show the characteristics of the two lyrics of the songs. That part is the main emphasis on the meaning and intent that the songwriters wish to convey so that the listeners of the songs are able to understand their hearts.Key Words: Oral and Written Discourse, Song Lyrics, Context and Inference Aspects, Grammatical and Lexical Aspect

Pada Japan Pop atau J-Pop nama Utada Hikaru merupakan penyanyi pop dan pencipta lagu yang tidak asing lagi. Disamping itu termasuk bintang besar di Jepang. Sangat menarik apabila teks lagu dari penyanyi ini dianalisis melalui analisis wacana kritis (Anawa). Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan analisis teks lagu first love dan Prisoner of love oleh Utada Hikaru dan bagaimana unsur kognisi sosial dan konteks yang terdapat dalam kedua lagu tersebut. Metode yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kepustakaan (library research). Simpulan dari Analisis wacana kritis pada riset mini ini yaitu Tema pada kedua lagu kenangan dan kekaguman kepada orang yang dicintai. Sedang kognisi sosial lebih menekankan bahwa menikah muda bukan suatu halangan untuk berkarir, sedang konteks sosial kekaguman kepada penyanyi yang bilingual yaitu bisa berbahasa Jepang dan Bahasa Inggris.Keyword : Analisis wacana kritis, lirik lagu, kognisi sosial, konteks  AbstractThe song is something to entertain the listener, especially love songs. A famous Japan Pop, Utada Hikaru is a big star in Japan. It will be very interesting to analyze the song lyrics using critical discourse analysis. This study is aimed at explaining the analysis of song texts of Utada Hikaru’s songs, first love and prisoner and how the elements of social cognition and context existed in those songs. By using descriptive qualitative research, there were some conclusions taken. The conclusion of critical discourse analysis in this mini research is the theme on both songs of memories and admiration to loved ones. Medium social cognition more suppressed young married is not an obstacle to a career, is the social context of admiration for bilingual singers that can be watched Japan and English.Keywords: critical discourse analysis, song lyrics, social cognition, context

This paper aims to describe any cohesion to achieve coherence and the intrinsic elements of a short story titled "Untuk Ibu" (For Mother) by Kusuma Wijayanti on Annida magazine. Discourse analysis is done through the micro structural and the practice of discourse approach. The results of the discourse analysis of the short story titled "Untuk Ibu" meet all the other good grammatical aspects of cohesion as well as lexical aspect. The presences of grammatical and lexical cohesion build up the short story into a cohesive and coherent. From grammatical aspect, the short story has person references, comparative and demonstrative reference, substitution of clausal, ellipsis, causal conjunction, and conjunctions of time addition/additives.  While from the lexical aspect, it has reps anaphora and reps tautotes, synonyms of words and phrases with free morpheme synonym bound, antonyms type compound and opposition relations, collocation, hyponymy, and equivalency. The results of the analysis of the practice of discourse show that short story "Untuk Ibu" has the main theme of patience and compassion of a mother on her daughter. The main character is the mother and Ayu, some others characters are Mas Danu, Yu Yu, Supi, Mar, Parto Sopa and Lik Darmi. Plot is a mix that began with the exposure of problems in the form of regret the “I” (aku) figure against the behavior of naughty in opposition to the mother and then continued with the depiction of a cause of regret, and then ends with a meeting among the figures I (Ayu) and mother (advanced/progressive grooves). The background of the story majority happened at home (Madiun). In addition, this story has the first-person perspective I or Ayu and occurs in Javanese.

This paper presents the architecture of a wearable sensor network and a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) processingframework for stochastic identification of body postures andphysical contexts. The key idea is to collect multi-modal sensor data from strategically placed wireless sensors over a human subject’s body segments, and to process that using HMM in order to identify the subject’s instantaneous physical context. The key contribution of the proposed multi-modal approach is a significant extension of traditional uni-modal accelerometry in which only the individual body segment movements, without their relative proximities and orientation modalities, is used for physical context identification. Through real-life experiments with body mounted sensors it is demonstrated that while the unimodal accelerometry can be used for differentiating activityintensive postures such as walking and running, they are not effective for identification and differentiation between lowactivity postures such as sitting, standing, lying down, etc. In the proposed system, three sensor modalities namely acceleration, relative proximity and orientation are used for context identification through Hidden Markov Model (HMM) based stochastic processing. Controlled experiments using human subjects are carried out for evaluating the accuracy of the HMMidentified postures compared to a naïve threshold based mechanism over different human subjects.

<p>The Javanese culture has a specific perspective on the ideal figure of women. This perspective is generally manifested in the classical texts, for example, in Serat Wulang Putri Adisara. Written by Nyi Adisara. Serat Wulang Putri contains the teachings for royal daughters in living their life as Javanese women based on Javanese teachings. In this manuscript, the readers can see the women figure portrayed from the perspective of a woman writer. This paper discusses the ideal women’s discourse in Serat Wulang Putri using the approach of critical discourse analysis from van Dijk. The analysis is conducted by considering the text’s microstructure, macrostructure, and cultural context. Through the analysis, we can see the ideal discourse of Javanese women based on Serat Wulang Putri. Furthermore, the text discusses women as figures who must pay attention to their attitudes and behavior, and can control their hearts, minds, and feelings. In this case, the author uses the male point of view to describe the characteristics of ideal Javanese women. Javanese women are also described as a weak figure and must obey what men command or expect from them.</p>

This paper is a corpus critical discourse analysis of the journalistic representations of Saudi women as they appear in the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) (Davies, 2008). It follows a sociocognitive approach (van Dijk, 2008) to explore the thematic foci discussing issues related to Saudi women and to discuss the discursive strategies implemented to propagate such issues. The study has reached four findings. First, the thematic foci related to Saudi women are textually and referentially coherent as they were meant to provide a grand narrative underlying a specific context model. Second, Saudi women are negatively represented as no social roles are ascribed to them throughout the corpus. Third, different social actors are also represented alongside Saudi women to put them in a wider socio-cultural context to aggravate their problems. Finally, the most effective discursive strategies which mediated the running context model included victimization, categorization, stereotyping, normalization, and exaggeration.

Language is an essential feature of communication for all poeple. It is utilized through various tools and media, and singing songs is one of the traditional forms of communication. Songs are usually written for particular reasons, messages, and purposes, and sometimes targeted for specific audience or listeners. Song lyrics usually contain various themes such as social and current issues and problems which the songwriter strives to share through expressions of his or her ideology, thoughts and feelings. This paper is aimed to find out the text analysis, social cognition and social context in the humanity song entitled We Shall Overcome through Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis model. This model shows that the choice of words or the diction is cohesive and coherent and is able to communicate the general meaning of this humanity song. Furthermore, the social cognition in this humanity song is related with the current social context which involves the recent situation in Palestinine, where there is still in conflict with Israel.

The aim of this paper is to show how politics, culture and ethnicity interweave in the context of the Rushdie Affair in both the real‑life dimension of the historical events taking place in the late 1980s, as well as the literary dimension of the novel by Hanif Kureishi entitled The Black Album. The paper briefly outlines the Rushdie Affair as it unfolded in the British public sphere with particular emphasis placed on the process of consolidation of the Muslim identity among the representatives of different ethnic groups in Great Britain in the political and cultural context of the event which is deemed to be defining from the point of view of British Muslims. The author of the paper presents the profile of Hanif Kureishi, to indicate why he is ideally positioned to look critically at both sides of the conflict. The paper analyses the novel itself insofar as it examines the implications of the Rushdie Affair depicted in The Black Album, the reactions of the second‑generation immigrants of Pakistani descent in the face of the controversy, the influence this event exerted on the process of their searching for identity as well as their integration into British society. Two opposing identity options taken up by the protagonists of The Black Album are analysed by the author of the paper.
