This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data are document (the authentic manuscript) and video of “Mona Lisa Smile” film.  The goals of this research are (1) to identify the contexts of declarative utterances uttered by the main character (Katherine Wattson) in the film entitled “Mona Lisa Smile”, (2) to explain the pragmatic forces of declarative utterances. To find the pragmatic forces of declarative utterances in the film entitled “Mona Lisa Smile” the researcher identifies the context of each datum in declarative utterance based on Austin’s classification of act performance in language. There are 69 utterances in the film, then the researcher randomly takes 35 utterances of declarative utterances to be analyzed. The results of this research are, that (1) In every utterance, context has important role in determine the meaning of the utterance, (2) The hearer’s response to Katherine Watson’s declarative utterances varies. The hearer’s response can be in forms of a statement, question, act and sometimes silence to Katherine utterances, (3) From the 35 of declarative utterances that have been uttered by Katherine Watson there are 13 kinds of force: consisting of insisting, claiming, complaining, apologizing, requesting, appointing, ordering, warning, suggesting, blaming, sentencing, asking, and advising. The implications of this research on teaching and learning activity are, (1) the pragmatic force of declarative utterances can be used as teacher’s classroom instruction, and (2) the pragmatic force of declarative utterances can be used as a teaching material.  Keywords: pragmatic, speech act, illocution, declarative

The purpose of this research is to know the description of interest, understanding of history subject, and creativity, effectiveness of teaching and learning activity in class in history subject at SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin. The research used qualitative method and the research type used was classroom action research. Descriptive research aims to give factual and accurate description regarding the facts of situation at SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin, especially on the role play  method in increasing the history learning interest. Data taken consist of primary and secondary data.The result of research indicates that role playing method in increasing the interest of  history at SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin has run well and succeeded. The assessment seen from the cognition , psychomotor, and affective aspect  of students has depicted on overall students’ learning results and objectivity. The problems faced in applying role playing method were (1) limitation of time , (2) limitation of materials which are required in the subject, (3) lack of knowledge of teacher in role playing method, and (4) less comprehension of students about role playing. Keywords: Interest and method of role playing Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui gambaran minat, pemahaman pelajaran sejarah, dan kreativitas, efektifitas kegiatan belajar mengajar siswa pada mata pelajaran sejarah di SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian deskriptif bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran secara faktual dan akurat mengenai fakta-fakta tentang keadaan Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri  2 Banjarmasin, khususnya dalam hal metode Bermain Peran (Role Playing) untuk meningkatkan minat  belajar sejarah. Data yang diambil terdiri dari data primer dan data sekunder.Hasil penelitian menunjukkanmetode Bermain Peran (Role Playing) untuk meningkatkan minat  belajar sejarah pada Mata Pelajaran Sejarah kelas XII IPS-4 SMA Negeri 2 Banjarmasin sudah dapat dikatakan berjalan dengan semestinya dan berhasil.Penilaian dengan melihat aspek kognitif, psikomotor, dan afektif siswa sudah menggambarkan keseluruhan hasil belajar siswa dan objektivitas.Masalah-masalah yang dihadapi dalam penerapan metode Bermain Peran (Role Playing) disini adalah (1) sedikitnya waktu, (2) materi yang dibutuhkan dalam pelajaran ini sangat terbatas, (3) guru kurangnya pengetahuan tentang metode bermain peran, dan (4) siswa kurang memahami tentang Bermain Peran.Kata Kunci:Minat dan metode  bermain peran (Role Playing)

This study focused on indirect speech act used by the main characters in Toba Dream movie. The objectives of the study were to: (1) find out the types of indirect speech acts used in Toba Dream movie, and (2) describe how types of indirect speech acts used in Toba Dream movie. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were all utterances uttered by the main character in Toba Dream movie and collected by watching the movie.  The result of the study showed that there were four types of indirect speech acts found in Toba Dream movie, they were: representative, directive, commisive, expressive containing indirect speech acts in Toba dream Movie. Representative (25,71%) were realized by interrogative sentences and imperative sentences. Directive (21,43%) were realized by declarative sentences and interrogative sentences. Commisive (14,28%) were realized by declarative sentences. The main characters in Toba dream movie dominated the use of indirect speech act to express statement, command and warning. It showed that they could produce the language more politely and keep the hearer’s face while getting instruction or information indirectly.Keywords: indirect speech act, movie pragmatic, Toba Dream

The problem in this research is not all teachers make the development of silabus and plan of learning implementation independently. This study aims to improve the willingness and ability of teachers in making the development of silabus and learning implementation plan (RPP) so that the process of teaching and learning directed learning achievement increases. The data source comes from the instrument delivered to all class V teachers in the Gedangan District, especially in the developed areas II. Analisis data is done by using descriptive and qualitative analysis, then consulted with the success criteria to determine whether collaborative coaching can improve the ability and willingness of teachers in making silabus and RPP. Based on the result of observation of silabus in the first cycle in obtaining the data of the percentage increase of conformity that is on the component of the teaching material from 50% to 75%, the learning activity increased from 25% to 75%, the indicator from 25% to 75%, the assessment type from 50% to 75%. While in the second cycle of RPP preparation there is an increase in terms of determining the existing learning model has increased: from 25% to 75% increase and assessment aspect from 25% to 75% increase, Indicator increased from 25% to 75% learning increased from 50% to 75%, teaching materials from 25% to 75%. Based on the results of data analysis above drawn the conclusion that: Collaborative coaching can improve the ability of teachers in making the development of silabus and learning implementation plan.

Teachers is not only teaching or delivering materials in a class but also being a professional in all aspects of teaching. Teachers cannot ignore their students’ understanding or characteristics in every teaching and learning activity. Moreover, a teacher is considered as a professional job in Indonesia. Thus, they also get additional payment for being a professional as long as they have got a certificate of professionalism. As sophomore students of English Literature in Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia are having some pedagogical subjects which give them a choice to be an English teacher in the future, they take Teaching Material Design (TMD) in their fourth semester. The subject covers how to design a teaching set, prepare a material and media, and learning evaluation. Unfortunately, 86% students thought in preparing teaching media needed more time to prepare and a specific knowledge, especially which is interesting and takes less time in making. So, the researchers give an alternatives medium that has a template theme and interesting, slidesgo. It has many advantages, so they can use it in teaching and suit the theme with the material they are going to teach. In the end, most of the students were glad and thought that it made them easy to prepare teaching media and took less time.

Teaching material is taken from the biology book of SMA that the content is theoretically, so the explanation on the material is unsuitable and not applicative that makes the student less in ability and skill for application in daily life. From the problem above, this research purpose on developing the contextual basic handout of the biological course in biotechnology material in SMK N 02 Batu.This research is developing research based on research and development by Sugiyono’s model that use a few developing steps, those are: (1) Potential and problem, (2) Collecting data, (3) Product design, (4) Validation design, (5) Design revision, (6) Try out the product, (7) Product revision. The data collecting methods is using validation from the expert of handout, material expert and try out to the study club. The technique of analyze data using quantitative and qualitative data. The result of quantitative data is the percentage of handout product value that classify in the handout quality and the result of qualitative data come from comment and advise of validator and try out in SMK.The result quality of the handout found that the developing contextual basic handout reach out the good quality after following the procedure of validation with percentage 80.90% and try out to the student that use the handout with percentage very good, 97.75% and get the positive respond from student with percentage 90.82%. From the whole of the contextual basic handout have a good quality and appropriate in use for teaching material of Biology in teaching learning process in SMK N 02 Batu.   Keywords: Contextual Basic Handout, Development and Quality of Handout.

This article reviews on the administration of teaching Balaghah at higher institutions in Malaysia was done to: (1) identify past research on the teaching and learning of Balaghah in Malaysia, (2) locate gap within related research on teaching and testing Balaghah in Malaysia, and (3) analyse new issues regarding teaching and testing of Balaghah which can provide references in the future. This review used a qualitative method, involving data retrieval and content analysis. Among the analyzed documents include journal articles, dissertation, books, working papers and proceeding seminars. The result shows that a balaghah testing and assessment is not given adequate emphasis, and the balaghah test is still lack of application aspects. Based on this finding, the recommendation of this review is to develop an instrument as an model for Balaghah Test in Higher Education Level (UPBal). During covid-19 pandemic, teachers need to change the activity from a face-to-face into distance learning activity. There may many methods and media used by the teacher, one of them is video. One of the aims is to assist teachers in explaining the material and attracting students' interest. Hence, this study aims to find out the benefits of the use video in teaching and learning activity in pandemic situation. In this study, the researchers investigated what the benefit of the use of video for English learning as perceived by students in Covid-19 pandemic situation. the researchers used qualitative method in this research. The instruments used in this study are questionnaire and interview. The researchers took the data from two classes, which were XI KI I and XI KI III of SMK SMTI Bandarlampung.The research findings shows that students had positive experience when using  video as medium in teaching and learning English as a foreign language. Moreover, most of the students agreed that video gives the advantages to the students, such as the increasing of motivation in learning, acquiring new vocabularies, and improving the pronunciation of Englsih words. The study is entitled the students’ perception on Quizizz as Game Based Learning as a in learning grammar in Written discourse. The aimed of this research was  to investigate  students’ opinion on Quizizz as Game Based Learning as a in learning grammar in Written discourse and their obstacles in the implementation. The data for this study were gained through qualitative method that used questionnaire and interview, and the respondents were four semester students who used quizziz as their learning activity. And created 10 questions relevant to the topics which are students already learned before by using Quizizz as games based learning for 20 minutes before finishing grammar in written discourse class once the students feel very tired, sleeping and bored for their grammar in written discourse class.  The study revealed that the students had positive perception on the use of quizziz, and all students were very active to answer the questions which provided by researches, and more concentrated on the topic. The result of the study expected to give contribution in improving EFL teaching and learning activity, especially in learning grammar in Written discourse.

This research analyzed speech act which were expressed by Thor as the main character in Thor movie. That movie showed a candidate of king who was banished by his father because of his arrogant characteristic, so, there were many speech act which represented real life. Considering there are problems in English language learning focusing on speech act, so this study was conducted used pragmatics analysis. The purposes of this study were to classify speech act based on Searle’s theory and analyze speech act which has relation between the form and the function of the sentence.This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data which were used in this research were the utterances that were performed by the main character in the movie. The data analysis used pragmatics approach with theory by Searle. From the theory, there are 5 classifications of speech act, representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. There are 2 types of speech act which is discussed by Searle, direct and indirect.Based on the analysis, the researcher found that from the 5 classifications only 4 of them which were expressed by the main character, representative, directive, commissive, and expressive. Representative and directive were expressed 56 times each of them. Commissive appeared 20 times and expressive appeared 29 times. All types of speech act were expressed by the main character in the movie. Direct speech act were expressed 140 times, and indirect speech act were expressed 11 times.

Teaching material is the important component in teaching and learning process, therefore, choosing the correct one will make easy the achievement of the learning objective.  The Education National Standard Foundation (Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan) arranges the basic competence standard which will be achieved in learning process as well as the topics which must be covered in the given teaching material. Every education stage has different material, and it is also different for the learner in different study program who will have different teaching material which is in accordance with the field of study and the expected goal. To achieve the good learning objective, the teacher has right to choose the textbook which is going to be used in the learning activities. However, there are also some schools decide to cooperate with other course institutions in running the Mandarin Language teaching and learning activities. The limitation of the availabality of Mandarin textbook which uses Indonesian language gives certain difficulty to the learners not only for the learning activity but also for the process of transferring the knowledge. The writer tries to describe the teaching material used by Senior High School and to see whether that textbook has fulfilled basic competence standard criteria which is going to be achieved by using discussion method with Senior High Schools teachers. It also tries to enlighten the material inside the textbook which is used by the teacher. The writer hopes there will be Mandarin Language Textbook which meets the basic competence standard which is able to support the learners in order to achieve the objective of  the Mandarin Language learning process in Senior High School.
