The efficiency in the production of seedlings is decisive for the final result of their applicability. Therefore, strategies to ensure a rapid and uniform emergence are necessary, especially when it is associated with sustainable methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different water temperatures as overcoming seed dormancy in Mimosa ophthalmocentra Mart. ex Benth., simply and economically, in the Brazilian Semiarid Region. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications, each one consisting of 50 seeds, which were subjected to six treatments: intact seeds (T1/control) and seeds immersed in water at 55, 65, 75, 85, and 95 °C (T2, T3, T4, T5, and T6, respectively). Sowing was performed in trays under environmental conditions and evaluations were performed daily for 28 days. The emergence percentage, emergence speed index (ESI), and length and dry mass of seedlings were evaluated. Data were subjected to analysis of variance, and the means were compared by Tukey test (p < 0.05). M. ophthalmocentra has tegumentary dormancy, and its emergence was influenced by water temperature. Immersion of seeds in water at 75 ºC for 1 min provided the best result with 60% of emergence, ESI of 2.68, and seedlings with longer lengths and higher dry mass.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different doses of silicon on the production of lettuce seedlings. The treatments were arranged in a 4x2 factorial scheme, totaling 8 treatments. The first factor corresponded to 4 Si doses (Ca silicate) added to the substrate for seedling production (0; 13.3; 32.3 and 53.2 g.kg-1 of Si on the substrate). The second factor corresponded to two varieties of lettuce, being Mônica SF31 (Crespa) and Rafaela (Americana). The experimental design was the completely randomized, with 4 replicates. The number of leaves (NF), fresh aerial mass (MFPA), dry shoot mass (MSPA), fresh radicular mass (MFRA) and root dry mass (MSRA) were evaluated. Data were submitted to analysis of variance by the F test, and the means of the treatments compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability. The seedlings of the Mônica SF31 and Rafaela lettuce varieties do not present differences regarding the Si requirement for the production of MFPA, MSPA, MFRA and MSRA. The application of Si to the substrate can be a viable alternative for the production of lettuce seedlings with higher NF, MFPA, MSPA, MFRA and MSRA. Doses of 32.0 to 43.7 g.kg-1 of Si in the substrate are suitable for higher production of MFPA, MSPA, MFRA and MSRA of lettuce Mônica SF31. Doses of 31.5 to 39.8 g.kg-1 of Si in the substrate are suitable for higher production of MFPA, MSPA, MFRA and MSRA of Rafaela lettuce seedlings.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to understand the influence of sowing depth and the amount of sugarcane straw on the emergence of weed species Luffa aegyptiaca Miller (Cucurbitaceae); Mucuna aterrima Piper & Tracy (Fabaceae - Leguminosae) and Ricinus communis (Euphorbiaceae). A completely randomized design with a 5 x 4 x 3 factorial layout with four replications was used, at five sowing depths (0, 2, 4, 8 and 10 cm), four different amounts of sugarcane straw (0, 5, 10 and 15 t ha-1) and three different evaluation periods (7, 14 and 21 days after sowing). After sowing, different amounts of sugarcane straw (0, 5, 10 and 15 t ha-1) were deposited on soil. Seedling emergence was analyzed at 7, 14 and 21 days after sowing, counting the number of seedlings that had emerged. At the end of the trial, weed height (cm), leaf area (cm2) and shoot dry mass (g) were measured. In relation to emergence ability, studied species presented different responses according to sowing depth and to the amount of sugarcane straw deposited on the soil. For the L.aegyptiacaand M.aterrima, no significant difference was observed in the interaction between depth and sugarcane straw, showing the adaptation of these species to no-burn sugarcane system. For R.communis, seeds placed at 0 cm of sugar cane straw depth were observed to favor the emergence of seedlings.

THE SOYBEAN SOWING DEPTH IN PLANTABILITY   ABSTRACT: The aim of this work was evaluate the sowing of soybean seed with error in soil deposition and different month of sowing. The field experiment was carried out during two years (2015 and 2016) at Fazenda Lageado, Faculty of Agronomic Sciences - UNESP / Botucatu - SP, Brazil. The plots were randomized blocks in 6 × 2 factorial, six treatments referring to the depth of the seeds in soil: 0.02 (T1); 0.05 (T2 - control) and 0.08 (T3); 0.02 and 0.05 (T4); 0.02 and 0.08 (T5); 0.05 and 0.08 m (T6) and two sowing times: October and November. For statistical analysis the data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) using Tukey test at 5% probability. The number of plants in early stage decreased by over 10% in the deep seeding (0.08 m), added to the less rainfall (October / 2016) which contributed significantly to this result. Therefore, plantability is damaged by the error of sowing depth, represented here by the emergence and survival of plants.   Keywords: Glycine max L., Plantability, Early stage.

IRRIGATION AND POTASSIUM LEVELS IN THE QUALITY OF EUCALYPTUS   ABSTRACT:  Forest productivity depends on the genetic potential of the matrices, the environment proposed by the substrates, frequency of irrigation, availability of light, nutrition and phytosanitary conditions. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the effects of potassium and irrigation on the quality of Eucalyptus urophylla seedlings. For this purpose, the experimental design was adopted in subdivided plots, defining the 2 layers of irrigation (10 mm and 15 mm) as plots and the 5 levels of potassium (0; 1.2; 2.4; 4.8; and 9.6 g L-1) as subplots, in 5 repetitions composed of 8 plants. The comparison between the methods was made using the Tukey test with a 5% probability. At 120 days, the following were evaluated: height of the aerial part, diameter of the neck, dry mass of the aerial part and the root. The control treatment showed the best averages in all parameters, being considered the most efficient. The 15 mm irrigation blade was considered the most efficient. Therefore, it is concluded that whatever the potassium increase in the production of seedlings, it must be harmoniously related to the pre-existing quantity in the base substrate and to the requirements of the culture, so that there is balance between all parts. The research was carried out on the Property “El Cartan” that is located in Km 4 way at Puebloviejo-Ventanas, county of Los Ríos. A test was conducted on the hybrid corn DK-1040. This test measures the response of the larvae of insects Spodoptera frugiperda and Elasmopalpus lignosellus to the application of dose of biological and organic insecticides. Also, the most appropriate dose in products was determined with an economic analysis. The experimental design used was random complete blocks with seven treatments and three replicates. The variables evaluated are: percentage of larvae control, number of larvae per plant, corn damage, and yield for hectare. The evaluated variables were subjected to the analysis of variance, and Tukey test was applied to 95 % probability. The analyzed results were determined to apply Neem (Azadirachtina indica) in dose of 1,0 L ha -1 . It diminishes the populations of S. frugiperda and E. lignosellus in relationship to the other active matters applied in the test. Higher doses lead to migration of pests to nearby hosts. The highest yield per hectare was found in the Neem 1.0 L ha-1 treatment with 8,940 kg ha-1.

Synchronizing the timing of fertilizer applications with plant nutrient demand increases the nutritional efficiency and decrease the cost of production. The objective of this study was to determine the growth and the nutrient uptake and export by heliconia ‘Red Opal’. The experiment was carried out in a shade house and Heliconia psittacorum ‘Red Opal’ rhizomes were planted in soil classified as Arenic Kandinstults. The experimental design was completely randomized with nine plant sampling (zero; 30; 90; 150; 210; 270; 330; 390 and 450 days after planting) and five replicates. Leaves, sheathing leaf bases, flower stem, rhizomes and roots were collected every sampling and dry mass and nutrients accumulation were determined. Heliconia plants showed slow initial development but from the 210 days of planting, which corresponds with the beginning of the flower stem harvest there is a marked increase in dry mass accumulation. Nutrient accumulation followed the decreasing order: K > N = Ca > P = Mg > S > Fe = Mn > Zn > Cu = B. Potassium and calcium were the most exported macronutrients by heliconia flower stem and among the micronutrients, manganese was the most exported.

The crambe crop is an interesting option for the production of biodiesel, mainly due to the high oil content (35%) and the corn one of the most implanted crops in Brazil. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the allelopathic effect of crambe in the initial development of maize. The experiment was carried out in the laboratory of seed and plant evaluation (LASP) and laboratory of soil physics (LAFIS) of UNIOESTE-Cascavel. The seeds of corn with germination of 93.5% were submitted to four concentrations plus the control in the different parts of the crambe plant, where the growth and mass of corn were valued. The experimental design was completely randomized with 4 replicates per treatment. The statistical analysis consisted of analysis of variance and the means of the treatments were compared by the Tukey test at 5% of significance. The extract of the whole crambe plant stimulated aerial length, root length, fresh and dry mass of corn shoot. Root, stem and leaf extracts inhibited the initial development of maize in relation to growth and fresh and dry shoot mass.

Campomanesia adamantium (Cambess.) Berg O. is a native of Savanna, popularly known as gabiroba, guavira, or gabiroba-do-campo, and has many uses, with its fruit being consumed fresh or processed. This study aimed to evaluate different doses of phosphorus and nitrogen in the initial development of gabiroba (Campomanesia adamantium) cultivated in pots. Five doses of phosphorus (0, 100, 200, 300, and 400kg ha-1 of P2O5) and three doses of nitrogen (0, 100, and 200 kg ha-1of N) were tested. The experimental design used was completely randomized in a 5x3 factorial scheme with six replications. The evaluations were carried out 120 days after plant emergence, and the variables analyzed were stem diameter, plant height, and number of leaves. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and F-test. The means were compared by the Tukey test at p0.05. Regression analyzes were adjusted for phosphorus doses. The gabiroba responds significantly to the addition of phosphorus, with the dose of 400 kg ha-1 of P2O5 providing the highest height and the dose of 300 kg ha-1 of P2O5 providing the greatest stem diameter and the number of leaves. Up to 120 days old, gabiroba seedlings do not respond significantly to nitrogen fertilization.
