This research aimed to know the efficacy of active compound of  Permot (P. foetida) leaves crude extract ointment as a bioacaricide in rabbit through observation of after treatment histopathological changes on skin of body part naturally infested with Sarcoptes scabiei. Permot  leaves were isolated and extracted in n-hexane solvent. Sixteen rabbits were randomly  divided into four groups, control (P0), P1, P2 and P3, the group of rabbits with scabies treated respectively with 5, 10 and 15 % of permot leaves crude extract ointment. Therapy was conducted topically on day 0; 1; 2; 3; 4; 5. Efficacy was examined from Haematoxylin Eosin (HE) stained skin histopathological features under microscope with  magnification of 100x, 400x and 1000x. The obtained skin histopatological feature data were assessed qualitatively. The application of 5 % ointment (P1) showed erosion and severe inflammatory cells infiltration in the epidermis; follicle proliferation and sebaceous were not present. In the dermis, severe sebaceous adenitis and folliculitis were evident. Massive inflammatory cells infiltration was found in hypodermis. The therapy using 5% ointment resulted 45 % success rate. The application of 10 % permot leaves crude extract ointment (P2) showed severe hypergranulation in the epidermis, severe proliferation of follicle and sebaceous gland, mild sebaceous adenitis and mild folliculitis in the dermis, as well as  moderate inflammatory cells infiltration in the hypodermis. The therapy using 10,% ointment resulted 60 % success rate. The application of 15 % ointment (P3) showed mild hypergranulation in the epidermis, mild follicle proliferation and inflammatory cells (PMN) infiltrationin the dermis; and moderate inflammatory cells infiltration in the hypodermis. The therapy using 15 % ointment resulted 90 % success rate. Keywords: scabiosis, rabbits, Passiflora foetida, ointment, histopathology

Abstract. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of α-tocopherol supplementation at two doses (600 and 1200 mg × kg–1) on kidney antioxidant status and the histopathological changes in Wistar rats after 12 weeks of exposure at different diets. Forty rats has been divided into 4 groups of 10 rats each, the control group received basal diet with 5 % fresh sunflower oil (FSO), the second group: 5 % oxidized sunflower oil (OSO), the third group: 5 % OSO supplemented with 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol and the fourth group: 5 % OSO supplemented with 1200 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol. In OSO groups, the results showed highly significant increases of LPO (from 31.3 ± 0.9 to 53.8 ± 1.2 nmol of MDA formed/min/mg protein, p < 0.0001) with a significant decrease (p < = 0.001) of the antioxidant enzymatic activities (CAT, SOD, GPX, GR and G6PDH), body weight (339 ± 9 to 290 ± 3 g) and α-tocopherol levels (13.6 ± 0.6 to 6.5 ± 0.4 μg/mg protein). In OSO groups with 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol, an antioxidant effect was found, reflected by a return of the parameters to values similar to those of the control group. However, higher doses of α-tocopherol (1200 mg × kg–1) induced a depletion of antioxidant status, α-tocopherol levels (6.0 ± 0.3 μg/mg protein, p < 0.001) and a very highly significant rise (p < 0.0001) of LPO content (54.86 ± 0.01 nmol of MDA formed/min/mg protein). The kidney tissues also showed changes in glomerular, severe inflammatory cells infiltration, and formation of novel vessels. So, we can conclude that the oxidative stress is attenuated by a moderate administration of 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol, while a pro-oxidant effect occurs at 1200 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol.

Abstract Introduction: Securing the airway is a crucial stage of trauma care. Cricothyroidotomy (CRIC) is often addressed as a salvage procedure in complicated cases or following a failed endotracheal intubation (ETI). Nevertheless, it is a very important skill in prehospital settings, such as on the battlefield. Hypothesis/Problem: This study aimed to review the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) experience with CRIC over the past two decades. Methods: The IDF Trauma Registry (IDF-TR) holds data on all trauma casualties (civilian and military) cared for by military medical teams since 1997. Data of all casualties treated by IDF from 1998 through 2018 were extracted and analyzed to identify all patients who underwent CRIC procedures. Variables describing the incident scenario, patient’s characteristics, injury pattern, treatment, and outcome were extracted. The success rate of the procedure was described, and selected variables were further analyzed and compared using the Fisher’s-exact test to identify their effect on the success and failure rates. Odds Ratio (OR) was further calculated for the effect of different body part involvement on success and for the mortality after failed ETI. Results: One hundred fifty-three casualties on which a CRIC attempt was made were identified from the IDF-TR records. The overall success rate of CRIC was reported at 88%. In patients who underwent one or two attempts, the success rate was 86%. No difference was found across providers (physician versus paramedic). The CRIC success rates for casualties with and without head trauma were 80% and 92%, respectively (P = .06). Overall mortality was 33%. Conclusions: This study shows that CRIC is of merit in airway management as it has shown to have consistently high success rates throughout different levels of training, injuries, and previous attempts with ETI. Care providers should be encouraged to retain and develop this skill as part of their tool box.

Background: Prophylactic extraction of the asymptomatic impacted third molar is routinely practiced in Europe and the United States. The justification for prophylactic extraction includes the need to reduce the risk of pathologic changes such as cysts and tumors.   Objectives: This study aimed to study the histological and radiological changes in the tooth follicles of upper and lower complete impacted 3rd molars -which appeared radiologically normal. Material and method: A prospective study included fifty patients aged 20 years and above who were referred to the Oral Surgery Clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sana'a. Patients had follicular space between (2.5mm -3mm) as measured by the panoramic X-ray. These teeth were removed surgically and the follicle was sent for histopathological examination. Results: Most histopathological changes were in dental follicles with a size of <2.5 mm (86%), and only 14% with 2.5 mm - 3 mm. There was statistical significance between the smallest size of dental follicles with the incidence of pathological histological changes indicating a high probability of developing neoplasm (p =0.008).  Of the 50 follicular patients, 28% showed HC, nine (64%) had ameloblastoma, four (29%) had a dentigerous cyst, and only one case (7%) had a multicalcified focus with islands of odontogenic epithelium. While 72% of the samples had normal follicles and non-specific chronic inflammatory cells. There is an association between female sex and pathological histological changes (12 females: 2 males, p =0.008), age group 21-25 years (93% HC), with mandibles (65% HC). Regarding angle and histopathological changes, 36% were vertical, 29% mesioangular, 14.2% horizontal and destioangular, and 7.1% buccoangular. Conclusion:  High incidence of HC occurred in patients with DF, and it was associated with smaller dental follicle size, most HC was ameloblastoma, followed by dentigerous cyst, while 72% of samples had normal follicles and non-specific chronic inflammatory cells. There is a correlation between female gender, younger age group, and jaw position with HC. Prophylactic extraction of the asymptomatic impacted third molar should be routinely practiced in Yemen, to reduce the risk of pathological changes, especially in females and younger age groups.                            Peer Review History: Received 11 January 2021; Revised 8 February; Accepted 28 February, Available online 15 March 2021 UJPR follows the most transparent and toughest ‘Advanced OPEN peer review’ system. Cigarette smoke (CS) exposure results in lung damage and inflammation through mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitochondria quality control is sustained by Miro1 (Rhot1), a calcium-binding membrane-anchored GTPase by its interaction with PINK1/Parkin during mitophagy. However, the exact mechanism that operates this interaction of mitophagy machinery in Miro1 degradation and CS-induced mitochondrial dysfunction that results in lung inflammation remains unclear. We hypothesized that mitochondrial Miro1 plays an important role in regulating mitophagy machinery and resulting lung inflammation by CS in mouse lung. We showed a role of Miro1 in CS-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and quality control mechanisms. The Rhot1Fl/Fl (WT) and lung epithelial cell-specific Rhot1 KO were exposed to mainstream CS for 3 days (acute) and 4 months (chronic). The cellular infiltration, cytokines, and lung histopathology were studied for the inflammatory response in the lungs. Acute CS exposure showed a notable increase in the total inflammatory cells, macrophages, and neutrophils associated with inflammatory mediators and Miro1 associated mitochondrial quality control proteins Parkin and OPA1. Chronic exposure showed an increase infiltration of total inflammatory cells and neutrophils versus air controls. Histopathological changes, such as pulmonary macrophages and neutrophils were increased in CS exposed mice. The epithelial Miro1 ablation led to augmentation of inflammatory cell infiltration with alteration in the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and histopathological changes. Thus, CS induces disruption of mitochondrial quality control mechanisms, and Rhot1/Miro1 mediates the process of CS-induced mitochondrial dysfunction ensuing lung inflammatory responses.
