Purpose of the study: This study aims to describe the symbolic meaning of the food names contained in the offerings at the Mantenan Tebu traditional ceremony. Methodology: This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The qualitative was used because it relates to the discussion of the data obtained in the form of words or explanations and not figures. The data in this study were in the form of the names of offering foods traditional ceremonies. Mantenan Tebu in Tasikmadu, Karanganyar. The data were collected by observation, interviews with informants and document analysis. Main Findings: Food in each offering has a meaning conveyed through symbols. This offering manifests the gratitude and request to God Almighty, as well as hope for the safety in the lives of Javanese people Implication/Applications of this study: The results of this study can be used for the university, teachers, students, and community. Even though traditional ceremonies always use offerings, not everyone knows the meaning. Therefore, this culture must be preserved, so students, teachers, universities and the community can learn about it and find out the meaning of foods in offerings that are delivered through symbols. Novelty/Originality of this study: Thus, it is necessary to study the symbolic meaning of each food used as an offering in the Mantenan Tebu tradition. Thus, the study discusses the names of foods in offerings and the symbolic meanings contained in the offerings at the Mantenan Tebu traditional ceremony.

MAKNA SIMBOLIK RITUAL AMONG TEBAL DALAM NOVEL GENDUK KARYA SUNDARI MARDJUKI AbstractThis study aims to describe the symbolic meanings of among tebal ritual and the description of attitude of life of the tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro in novel Genduk by Sundari Mardjuki. This research uses descriptive qualitative method which put forward on content analysis with in-depth reading on the novel. The problem in this research is the symbolic meaning of among tebal ritual and the description of the attitude of life of the tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro which is reflected from among tebal ritual in the novel Genduk. The data of this research are all symbolic expressions in among tebal ritual and all words and sentences that describe the attitude of life of the tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro in the novel Genduk. Result this research can describe the symbolic meaning of among tebal ritual which consists of symbolic meaning of ritual offerings that are white, yellow, red, and black tumpeng which symbolize the four elements in human beings that cannot be separated and jajan pasar that symbolize human character in this world is different. Prayer in rituals has a high expectation for tobacco plants to be planted to grow fertile with good harvest. The symbolic meaning of the procession of among tebal ritual is the togetherness that is in the society of tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif yang lebih mengedepankan pada analisis konten (isi) dengan pembacaan mendalam pada novel. Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah makna simbolik dari ritual among tebal serta deskripsi sikap hidup petani tembakau di lereng sindoro yang tercermin dari ritual among tebal dalam novel Genduk. Data penelitian ini berupa semua ungkapan simbolis pada ritual among tebal serta semua kata dan kalimat yang mendeskripsikan sikap hidup petani tembakau di lereng Sindoro dalam novel Genduk. Hasil penelitian ini mendeskripsikan makna simbolik ritual among tebal yang terdiri atas makna simbolik sesaji ritual yaitu tumpeng putih, kuning, merah, dan hitam yang melambangkan keempat unsur dalam diri manusia tidak dapat dipisahkan serta jajanan pasar yang melambangkan karakter manusia di dunia ini tidak ada yang sama. Doa dalam ritual memiliki makna pengharapan tinggi untuk tanaman tembakau yang akan ditanam dapat tumbuh subur dan panennya bagus. Makna simbolik prosesi ritual among tebal yaitu kebersamaan yang terjalin di masyarakat petani tembakau lereng Sindoro. Penelitian ini juga mendeksripsikan sikap hidup petani tembakau lereng Sindoro yang tercermin dari ritual among tebal.Kata kunci: makna simbolik, among tebal, sikap hidup, petani tembakau

<p>Penelitian yang berjudul “Makna Simbolik <em>Tor-torsombah </em>Dalam Upacara Adat Kematian <em>Sayur Matua </em>Pada Masyarakat Suku Batak Simalungun” merupakan bentuk pertunjukan tari yang terkait dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua</em>. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali makna simbolik <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua, </em>bagaimana hubungan antara <em>Tor-tor Sombah Sombah </em>dengan upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua </em>pada masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun, serta bentuk pertunjukan <em>Tor-tor Sombah Sombah </em>dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua. </em>Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini diungkapkan dengan mendeskripsikan bentuk dari <em>Tor-tor Sombah Tor-tor Sombah </em>yang dilihat dari elemen-elemen koreografi dengan dibantu oleh notasi laban dan dianalisis dengan memakai teori dari Laban yaitu <em>effort </em>dan <em>shape</em>. Selain itu juga dalam penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna simbolis <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>yang dilihat dari dua bagian yaitu aspek dalam dan aspek luar dengan konsep dari Allegra Fuller Synder. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnokoreologi. Teknik pengumpulan data lapangan menggunakan model dari Kurath dengan metode etnografi tari. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa <em>Tor-tor Sombah Tor-tor Sombah </em>dalam upacara adat kematian <em>sayur matua </em>bagi masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun dilaksanakan sebagai penyampaian rasa hormat anak kepada orang tua yang sudah meninggal. <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>dalam kehidupan masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun saling berkaitan dan merupakan bagian dari adat yang digerakkan secara simbolis pada upacara adat<em>. Tor-tor Sombah </em>memiliki makna dan simbol dalam unsur sajian yang ditampilkan yaitu: dalam gerak tangan, iringan musik, busana, tata rias, properti, dan <em>umpasa</em>. Gerakan pada tangan yang terdapat dalam <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>mempunyai tiga</p><p>bentuk, yaitu :<em>sombah</em>, <em>mangalo-alo</em>, <em>mamasu-masu. </em>Selain menunjukkan bahwa <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>memiliki makna simbolik, berkaitan juga sebagai media komunikasi, dan melalui gerak yang disajikan terjadi interaksi antar peserta upacara. <em>Tor-tor Sombah </em>menjadi bagian dari kebudayaan yang berfungsi untuk menjaga serta mempertahankan kelangsungan sistem sosialnya pada masyarakat suku Batak Simalungun.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Kata kunci: </strong><em>or-tor Sombah, </em>Upacara Adat Kematian <em>Sayur Matua </em>Batak Simalungun, Koreografi, Makna Simbolik.</p><p> </p><p><strong><em>ABSTRACT</em></strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><em>The study entitled “Makna Simbolik Tor-tor Sombah Dalam Upacara Adat Kematian Sayur Matua Pada Masyarakat Suku Batak Simalungun” is a form of dance performance concerning the traditional ceremony of Sayur Matua death. This study aims to explore the symbolic meaning of Tor-tor Sombah in Sayur Matua death ceremony, how the relationship between Tor-tor Sombah and the traditional ceremony of Sayur Matua death in Batak Simalungun tribe, as well as the form of Tor-tor Sombah performance at the ceremony of Sayur Matua death. The problems in this study are expressed by describing the form of Tor-tor Sombah Tor-tor Sombah which is seen from the choreographic elements through Laban notation and is analyzed by using Laban theories, namely </em>effort <em>and </em>shape<em>. In addition, this study also aims to analyze the symbolic meaning of Tor-tor Sombah based on the inner and outer aspects with the concept of Allegra Fuller Synder. The data is collected by using qualitative method with an ethnochoreological approach. The Field data collection uses models from</em></p><p><em>Kurath through dance ethnographic methods. The results of the study show that Tor-tor Sombah in Sayur Matua death ceremony in Batak Simalungun tribe represents the delivery of children’s respect towards their deceased parents. The Tor- tor Sombah is interrelated with the life of Batak Simalungun tribe and is part of the custom that is symbolically presented in traditional ceremonies. Tor-tor Sombah has meanings and symbols in the elements of presentation, namely: hand gestures, musical accompaniment, costume, make-up, property, and </em>umpasa<em>. There are three forms of hand gestures in the Tor-tor Sombah, namely: sombah, mangalo alo, mamasu-masu. Besides the symbolic meaning contained in Tor-tor Sombah, it also represents a medium of communication. The presented movement causes an interaction among the participants of the ceremony. This study aims to analyse the interpersonal communication within multi-religious society in Gendingan village, Surakarta. Using a descriptive qualitative method and symbolic interactionalism approach, the findings indicate that a harmony produced by interpersonal communication amongst people in Gendingan is a reflection of one's obedience to the religion and the result of the understanding to his/her religious. In addition, based on symbolic interaction perspective, it is found that, first, the communicator's response to communicants within multi-faith society affected by the environment. Second, the tolerance is allowed but it has remained limited, regardless reducing the meaning of tolerance. Third, there are changes of religious symbolic meaning that affect interpersonal communication actions within multi-religious communities.

This study is aimed at analyzing the symbolic meanings of Kembar Mayang conducted at Desa Medan Sinembah Kecamatan Tanjung Morawa Kabupaten Deli Serdang predominantly by Javanese ethnic. Kembar Mayang in this study is concerned with the Javanese wedding ceremony. Descriptive qualitative method is applied in the study describing social phenomena occurring naturally aiming to help us to understand the world in which we live and why things are in the way they are. The main theory to support the study is the theory of Semiotic. The results show there are five forms of symbolic meanings in Kembar Mayang: Manuk-Manukan as symbol of Loyalty; Uler-Uleran of Struggle; Walang-Walangan of Persistence; Pecut-Pecutan of Optimism and Keris-Kerisan of Wisdom. The five forms of rites are compulsory in the wedding ceremony with the main objective to achieve a happy, harmonious and peaceful life for the bride and the bridegroom and this is in line with the general concept of marriage.

This study aims to describe 3D printing as a medium of mathematics learning for students in the context of prospective teacher learning in accordance with the increasingly rapid technological development. Consideration in this study is that many teachers find it difficult in learning media both in making and developing learning media. 3D printing is one solution that can be offered by technology in order to solve the problems experienced by teachers. This research was conducted with a descriptive qualitative method with PGSD students participating in mathematics concentration at the University of Muhammadiyah Sukabumi totalling 20 people. Based on the results of this study, students can operate and print mathematics learning media through 3D printing. In addition to making media for learning, 3D printing also sharpens digital literacy for students to prepare teachers for the future.

This study aimed to determine the stages in the Tabot ceremony, found out the meaning of the messages at each of these stages, and also looked for the symbols meaning in the ceremony. This research was expected to provide contributions to the development of Communication Sciences, particularly those related to the symbolic meaning of the message as well as verbal and nonverbal communication. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the Tabot ceremony in Bengkulu was a hereditary tradition which carried out annually and was taken as an asset to the area. The ceremony was conducted by nine ritual, where each ritual laden with messages and meanings that carries meaning and tells a history or story.  Keywords: the meaning of the message, culture symbols, tabot ceremony

The assumption is there are many academic libraries of Indonesia especially under Minister of Religion Affairs (MORA) which hardly meet a demand of their users’ needs because their collection management or collection development policies do not prepare well. Actually to create a better collection, an academic library has to plan its collection well. This research has done with a purpose of inspecting a collection development policy of an academic library in Indonesia and its implementation. The collection development policy of main library of State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah at Jakarta in 2008 is the object of this research. This research has done by a descriptive qualitative approach that inspects deeply by means of any deep interview, observation, and document analysis. Having examined the formulation of its collection development policy we know the context of policy’s formulation, some actors who formulate, the roles of the head of the library, the attitude of the university and some values that influence. Having examined its implementation we know that the aims of the policy have achieved or not.

This article is aimed at describing the differences of tutoring process and the responses of tutees related to the tutors classified as peer and cross age The research underlying this article applies descriptive-qualitative method. The data were obtained from observation, document analysis and interview. The findings show that there are advantages and disadvantages of both models. Peer tutors were more familiar to the tutee. It built better communication and high motivation in the classes. Meanwhile, cross-age tutors tended to be respected by tutee that made them easier in organizing the classes. On the other hand, peer tutors looked less serious and were often ignored by tutees. Similarly, cross-age tutors faced difficulties in preserving their attittudes since they were taken as the models by their tutees.

 This research focuses on student perception about how to prepare to understand the use of types of references (anaphoric, cataphoric, and exophoric reference) in the Descriptive text. The objectives of this research are to find out what the types of references that many used in Descriptive text and how many types of references for all paragraph in Descriptive text. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The researcher got the data from document analysis namely in the Descriptive text about Artikel. The result from this research are the result from the tenth paragraph of the Descriptive text that has already done to analysis, there are 6 anaphoric reference, 6 cataphoric and in this article contains an understanding of a text and a concept so students can understand about the material.

<br /><div>The fabric known as Palembang songket weaving (hand-woven brocade, intricate patterned with gold thread) features high cultural evidence, because the songket is associated with various things such as high sales value, high quality fabrics made of silk and gold, and duration the time it takes to make it. Songket contains a certain meaning that shows how the use and level of people who wear it. Songket tent first appeared in Ki Gede Ing Suro area and later developed to experience various changes in the type of yarns used to make Aesan Gede cloth used in traditional Palembang wedding ceremonies, while the inside of songket remains unchanged. There are a number of elements that characterize Palembang songket. The problems discussed in this research are the background of Palembang songket in the traditional wedding procession of Palembang, the form and accessories of Aesan Gede in the procession of wedding custom, and the philosophical and symbolic meaning contained in Aesan Gede clothes used in the traditional wedding procession of Palembang. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of songket cloth in the customary wedding procession of Palembang. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that: first, the background of the creation of Palembang songket cloth in the ceremony of marriage is influenced by the aristocracy in the era of Sriwijaya kingdom. At that time songket should only be used by the King and Queen. Secondly, Palembang songket used in the ceremony procession of Palembang's traditional wedding ceremony is Aesan Gede and Aesan Paksangkong. Each dress has different characteristics. Third, Aesan Gede dress worn during traditional wedding ceremonies of Palembang, contains important philosophical and symbolic meaning. <p><br /><strong> </strong><br /><strong>Abstrak</strong></p><p>Kain yang dikenal sebagai tenun songket Palembang (brokat tenunan tangan, bercorak rumit dengan benang emas) menampilkan bukti budaya yang tinggi, karena kain songket ini terkait dengan berbagai hal seperti nilai penjualannya yang tinggi, kualitas kainnya yang tinggi terbuat dari sutera dan emas, dan lamanya waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk membuatnya. Songket berisi makna tertentu yang menunjukkan bagaimana penggunaannya dan tingkat orang yang memakainya. Tenda songket pertama kali muncul di kawasan Ki Gede Ing Suro dan kemudian berkembang untuk mengalami berbagai perubahan dalam jenis benang yang digunakan untuk membuat kain Aesan Gede yang digunakan dalam upacara pernikahan tradisional Palembang, sementara bagian dalam kain songket tetap tidak berubah. Ada sejumlah elemen yang menjadi ciri khas songket Palembang. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah latar belakang adanya songket Palembang dalam prosesi adat pernikahan tradisional Palembang, bentuk dan aksesoris Aesan Gede dalam prosesi adat pernikahan, dan makna filosofis dan simbolis yang terkandung dalam busana Aesan Gede yang digunakan dalam prosesi pernikahan tradisional Palembang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji peranan kain songket pada prosesi pernikahan adat Palembang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: pertama, latar belakang terciptanya pemakaian kain songket Palembang dalam upacara adat pernikahan dipengaruhi oleh aristokrasi pada jaman kerajaan Sriwijaya. Saat itu songket hanya boleh dipakai oleh Raja dan Ratu. Kedua, songket Palembang yang dipakai pada acara prosesi adat pernikahan Palembang itu merupakan busana Aesan Gede dan Aesan Paksangkong. Masing-masing busana memiliki ciri khas yang berbeda. Ketiga, busana Aesan Gede yang dipakai dalam upacara pernikahan adat tradisional Palembang, mengandung makna filosofis dan simbolis yang penting.</p></div>
