This study aimed to determine the stages in the Tabot ceremony, found out the meaning of the messages at each of these stages, and also looked for the symbols meaning in the ceremony. This research was expected to provide contributions to the development of Communication Sciences, particularly those related to the symbolic meaning of the message as well as verbal and nonverbal communication. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the Tabot ceremony in Bengkulu was a hereditary tradition which carried out annually and was taken as an asset to the area. The ceremony was conducted by nine ritual, where each ritual laden with messages and meanings that carries meaning and tells a history or story.  Keywords: the meaning of the message, culture symbols, tabot ceremony

This study aims to analyse the interpersonal communication within multi-religious society in Gendingan village, Surakarta. Using a descriptive qualitative method and symbolic interactionalism approach, the findings indicate that a harmony produced by interpersonal communication amongst people in Gendingan is a reflection of one's obedience to the religion and the result of the understanding to his/her religious. In addition, based on symbolic interaction perspective, it is found that, first, the communicator's response to communicants within multi-faith society affected by the environment. Second, the tolerance is allowed but it has remained limited, regardless reducing the meaning of tolerance. Third, there are changes of religious symbolic meaning that affect interpersonal communication actions within multi-religious communities.

MAKNA SIMBOLIK RITUAL AMONG TEBAL DALAM NOVEL GENDUK KARYA SUNDARI MARDJUKI AbstractThis study aims to describe the symbolic meanings of among tebal ritual and the description of attitude of life of the tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro in novel Genduk by Sundari Mardjuki. This research uses descriptive qualitative method which put forward on content analysis with in-depth reading on the novel. The problem in this research is the symbolic meaning of among tebal ritual and the description of the attitude of life of the tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro which is reflected from among tebal ritual in the novel Genduk. The data of this research are all symbolic expressions in among tebal ritual and all words and sentences that describe the attitude of life of the tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro in the novel Genduk. Result this research can describe the symbolic meaning of among tebal ritual which consists of symbolic meaning of ritual offerings that are white, yellow, red, and black tumpeng which symbolize the four elements in human beings that cannot be separated and jajan pasar that symbolize human character in this world is different. Prayer in rituals has a high expectation for tobacco plants to be planted to grow fertile with good harvest. The symbolic meaning of the procession of among tebal ritual is the togetherness that is in the society of tobacco farmers on the slopes of Sindoro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif yang lebih mengedepankan pada analisis konten (isi) dengan pembacaan mendalam pada novel. Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah makna simbolik dari ritual among tebal serta deskripsi sikap hidup petani tembakau di lereng sindoro yang tercermin dari ritual among tebal dalam novel Genduk. Data penelitian ini berupa semua ungkapan simbolis pada ritual among tebal serta semua kata dan kalimat yang mendeskripsikan sikap hidup petani tembakau di lereng Sindoro dalam novel Genduk. Hasil penelitian ini mendeskripsikan makna simbolik ritual among tebal yang terdiri atas makna simbolik sesaji ritual yaitu tumpeng putih, kuning, merah, dan hitam yang melambangkan keempat unsur dalam diri manusia tidak dapat dipisahkan serta jajanan pasar yang melambangkan karakter manusia di dunia ini tidak ada yang sama. Doa dalam ritual memiliki makna pengharapan tinggi untuk tanaman tembakau yang akan ditanam dapat tumbuh subur dan panennya bagus. Makna simbolik prosesi ritual among tebal yaitu kebersamaan yang terjalin di masyarakat petani tembakau lereng Sindoro. Penelitian ini juga mendeksripsikan sikap hidup petani tembakau lereng Sindoro yang tercermin dari ritual among tebal.Kata kunci: makna simbolik, among tebal, sikap hidup, petani tembakau

<br /><div>The fabric known as Palembang songket weaving (hand-woven brocade, intricate patterned with gold thread) features high cultural evidence, because the songket is associated with various things such as high sales value, high quality fabrics made of silk and gold, and duration the time it takes to make it. Songket contains a certain meaning that shows how the use and level of people who wear it. Songket tent first appeared in Ki Gede Ing Suro area and later developed to experience various changes in the type of yarns used to make Aesan Gede cloth used in traditional Palembang wedding ceremonies, while the inside of songket remains unchanged. There are a number of elements that characterize Palembang songket. The problems discussed in this research are the background of Palembang songket in the traditional wedding procession of Palembang, the form and accessories of Aesan Gede in the procession of wedding custom, and the philosophical and symbolic meaning contained in Aesan Gede clothes used in the traditional wedding procession of Palembang. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of songket cloth in the customary wedding procession of Palembang. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that: first, the background of the creation of Palembang songket cloth in the ceremony of marriage is influenced by the aristocracy in the era of Sriwijaya kingdom. At that time songket should only be used by the King and Queen. Secondly, Palembang songket used in the ceremony procession of Palembang's traditional wedding ceremony is Aesan Gede and Aesan Paksangkong. Each dress has different characteristics. Third, Aesan Gede dress worn during traditional wedding ceremonies of Palembang, contains important philosophical and symbolic meaning. <p><br /><strong> </strong><br /><strong>Abstrak</strong></p><p>Kain yang dikenal sebagai tenun songket Palembang (brokat tenunan tangan, bercorak rumit dengan benang emas) menampilkan bukti budaya yang tinggi, karena kain songket ini terkait dengan berbagai hal seperti nilai penjualannya yang tinggi, kualitas kainnya yang tinggi terbuat dari sutera dan emas, dan lamanya waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk membuatnya. Songket berisi makna tertentu yang menunjukkan bagaimana penggunaannya dan tingkat orang yang memakainya. Tenda songket pertama kali muncul di kawasan Ki Gede Ing Suro dan kemudian berkembang untuk mengalami berbagai perubahan dalam jenis benang yang digunakan untuk membuat kain Aesan Gede yang digunakan dalam upacara pernikahan tradisional Palembang, sementara bagian dalam kain songket tetap tidak berubah. Ada sejumlah elemen yang menjadi ciri khas songket Palembang. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah latar belakang adanya songket Palembang dalam prosesi adat pernikahan tradisional Palembang, bentuk dan aksesoris Aesan Gede dalam prosesi adat pernikahan, dan makna filosofis dan simbolis yang terkandung dalam busana Aesan Gede yang digunakan dalam prosesi pernikahan tradisional Palembang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji peranan kain songket pada prosesi pernikahan adat Palembang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: pertama, latar belakang terciptanya pemakaian kain songket Palembang dalam upacara adat pernikahan dipengaruhi oleh aristokrasi pada jaman kerajaan Sriwijaya. Saat itu songket hanya boleh dipakai oleh Raja dan Ratu. Kedua, songket Palembang yang dipakai pada acara prosesi adat pernikahan Palembang itu merupakan busana Aesan Gede dan Aesan Paksangkong. Masing-masing busana memiliki ciri khas yang berbeda. Ketiga, busana Aesan Gede yang dipakai dalam upacara pernikahan adat tradisional Palembang, mengandung makna filosofis dan simbolis yang penting.</p></div>

The purpose of this study is to analyze the symbolic meaning and cultural identity of batik. The symbolic meaning of a form of batik motifs gives signs to represent the cultural character of Sarolangun District. Cultural identity acts as a mediation of interaction by the Sarolangun district community to be known in the outside the world. This research method uses descriptive qualitative method. The approach taken is semiotics by Charles Piers.The results of the Semiotics Peirce concept can distinguish the meaning of batik based on the shape of the batik motif and the sign found in the decoration. The symbolic meaning of a number of batik motifs are found in the theme of Mato Punai, Cik Minah edge motif, quaint bird. Mato Punai is a bird's eye motif as a symbol of prosperity. Cik Minah edge motif symbolizes the agility of a woman in life. There are 18 batik motifs that have been recognized and has been patents, hereby that Sarolangun batik arts has its own identity for Saroalngun district culture.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: menjelaskan asal-usul pakaian Adat Muna, menggambarkan proses pembuatan pakaian Adat Muna, menjelaskan fungsi pakaian Adat Muna, menjelaskan makna simbolik pakaian Adat Muna. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan sejarah. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumen. Sumber yang digunakan merupakan data lapangan melalui participant observation sebagai data primer, dan sumber kepustakaan sebagai data sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Asal-usul pakaian Adat Muna sudah lama dikenal oleh masyarakat Muna dan kerajinan ini merupakan salah satu kreativitas mereka yang digunakan dalam acara-acara tertentu, (2) Proses pembuatan pakaian Adat Muna terdiri dari proses menghani/kasoro dan Proses menenun, (3) Pakaian Adat Muna memiliki fungsi etik, estetik, religius, sosial, dan (4) Makna simbolik pakaian Adat Muna yaitu: (a) Mahkota yang berwarna putih dan merah mengandung arti sebagai simbol kesucian dan keberanian (b) Warna sarung yang berwarna biru mengandung arti kepatuhan.The objectives of this study are: to describe the origin of Muna traditional clothes, to describe the process of making Muna traditional clothes, to explain the functions of Muna traditional clothes, to explain the symbolic meaning of Muna traditional clothes in people's lives. The method used in this researchis descriptive qualitative method with a historical approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through field observation and interviews as primary source and document study as secondary source. The results of the study show that: (1) The origins of Muna traditional clothes have long been known by the Muna community and that this craft is one of their creative manifestations used in certain events, (2) The process of making Muna traditional clothes consists of the process of  menghani/kasoro and the process of weaving, (3) The functions of Muna traditional clothes have ethical, aesthetic, religious, social dimension, and (4) Symbolic meaning of Muna Traditional namely: (a) White and red crowns  mean as a symbol of chastity and wealth, (b) Blue sarong means obedience.

Purpose of the study: This study aims to describe the symbolic meaning of the food names contained in the offerings at the Mantenan Tebu traditional ceremony. Methodology: This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The qualitative was used because it relates to the discussion of the data obtained in the form of words or explanations and not figures. The data in this study were in the form of the names of offering foods traditional ceremonies. Mantenan Tebu in Tasikmadu, Karanganyar. The data were collected by observation, interviews with informants and document analysis. Main Findings: Food in each offering has a meaning conveyed through symbols. This offering manifests the gratitude and request to God Almighty, as well as hope for the safety in the lives of Javanese people Implication/Applications of this study: The results of this study can be used for the university, teachers, students, and community. Even though traditional ceremonies always use offerings, not everyone knows the meaning. Therefore, this culture must be preserved, so students, teachers, universities and the community can learn about it and find out the meaning of foods in offerings that are delivered through symbols. Novelty/Originality of this study: Thus, it is necessary to study the symbolic meaning of each food used as an offering in the Mantenan Tebu tradition. Thus, the study discusses the names of foods in offerings and the symbolic meanings contained in the offerings at the Mantenan Tebu traditional ceremony.

This research is making use of descriptive qualitative method. The data are collected with the method of Sudaryanto (1993) that is listening and interviewing method, make use the technique of free listening and interviewing with a list of questionaire. This research makes use the theory of Burning (1970) and Koentjaraningrat (1980) to answer the first problem, and of Spradley (1979) and Casson (1981) to the second one. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Research data obtained through observation techniques, literature studies, interviews, and documentation. The informants came from the 2015 Communication Merdeka Madiun University alumni students. Sociolinguistics is the study of language variation and use in society. Interference is the event of the use of language elements of one into the other language elements that occur in the speakers themselves. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because to describe the actual realityin order to obtainan accurateand objective. Qualitative descriptive methods were used to analyzethe elements ofa word orphrase that incorporated elements of other languages with the analysis and description of the formulation of the problem is the answer. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, the determination ofthe object of research, the selection of short stories.Based on the analysis of the data in this study can be found that there are six forms of interference morphology, namely (1) the prefix nasal N-sound, (2) the addition of the suffix, (3) the exchange prefix, (4) exchange suffixes, (5) exchange konfiks, (6) removal affixes. While the syntactic interference only on the words and phrases in a sentence. The results of the study it can be concluded that the interference morphology more common than syntactic interference.
