The article presents data on combined anodic dissolution of aluminum alloy of Al–Li–Cu system with not high sensibility to intergranular corrosion, consisting in sequential dissolution in two different solutions, with different modes – the ratio of the specific amount of electricity. The obtained corrosion deteriorations were evaluated by optical and confocal microscopy, the dependences of mass loss, the depth of pitting and intergranular corrosion, as well as changes in the tensile strength of the specific amount of electricity for different modes were determined. As a result of the analysis of the obtained data, models for predicting the loss of tensile strength from the value of the specific amount of electricity (or mass loss) in atmospheric corrosion are proposed.

The feasibility of recycling machining grindings of aluminum alloys by semisolid process has been investigated. Machining grindings of A2011 aluminum alloy produced experimentally by lathe machining were used. The material is put into a metal mold and compressed up to 90 % of the true density at room temperature. The metal mold with the compressed machining grindings is heated up to a specified temperature. Afterwards, the metal mold is set into the extrusion container, and extrusion in hot and semisolid range was carried out. In this experimental study, extrusion load, internal structure of the product and mechanical properties (tensile strength, elongation, hardness) of the product are assessed. It was proven that semisolid extrusion is about 40% less extrusion load compared with that of hot extrusion, the shape of the machining grindings remained in the hot extrusion and the semisolid extrusion products extrusion ratios higher than 10 have excellent elongation property, which is comparable to the commercialized product.

Aluminum alloys have been attracted by several engineering sectors due to their excellent strengthweight ratio and corrosion resistant properties. These are categorized into 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7and 8xxx on the basis of alloying elements. Among these 6xxx series contains aluminum–magnesium–silicon as alloying elements and are widely used in extruded products and automotive body panels. The major advantages of these alloys are good corrosion resistance, medium strength, low cost, age hardening response no yield point phenomenon and Ludering. 6xxx series alloys generally have lower formability than other aluminum alloys which restrict their utilization for wide applications. Keeping in view of the shortcomings in the set of mechanical properties of 6xxx series the efforts were made to improve the tensile strength and toughness properties through age hardening. In present study heat treatment cycles were studied for 6061 aluminum alloy. Three different age hardening temperatures 160, 200 and 240oC were selected. The obtained results showed that 17.26, 7.69, and 10.51% improvement in tensile strength, toughness and hardness respectively was achieved with solution treatment at 380oC followed by an aging 240oC. Microstructural study revealed that substantial improvements in the mechanical properties of 6061 aluminum alloy under heat treatment were achieved due to precipitation of Mg2Si secondary phase.

The aluminum alloys of the 7xxx series consist of Al with Zn mainly, Mg and Cu. 7xxx aluminum alloys has high mechanical properties making it distinct from other aluminum alloys. In this paper, we examine the effect of adding Nickel and heat treatments on the microstructure and hardness of the 7075 aluminum alloy. Were we added different percentages of nickel [0.1, 0.5, 1] wt% to 7075 Aluminum alloy, and applied various heat treatments (artificial aging T6 and Retrogression and re-aging RRA) on the 7075 alloys that Containing nickel. By applying RRA treatment, we obtained better results than the results obtained by applying T6 treatment, and we obtained the high values of hardness and a smoother microstructure for the studied alloys by the addition of (0.5 wt%) nickel to alloy 7075.

5083 aluminum alloy, due to moderate strength, good thermal conductivity and formability, is an ideal structural material for car production. Influence of cold rolling process on microstructures and mechanical properties of 5083 aluminum alloys is significant and research hotspots. In this paper, cold deformation and annealing processes on grains, tensile properties and anisotropies of 5083 alloy sheets were studied. Results showed that incomplete recrystallization occured on 5083 alloy sheets when annealing temperature was at 300°C. The degree of recrystallization increased slightly with the cold deformation raised from 30% to 50% and varied slightly with prolonged annealing time from 2h to 4h. Furthermore, fully recrystallization occurred on 5083 alloy sheets at the annealing temperature above 320°C. Tensile strength of 5083 alloy sheets reduced significantly when the annealing temperature was raised from 300°C to 320°C, while it varied slightly when the annealing temperature continued to rise to 380°C.

The effects of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP), further heat treatment and rolling on the structure and room temperature mechanical properties of the commercial aluminum alloys 6061 (Al-0.9Mg-0.7Si) and 1560 (Al-6.5Mg-0.6Mn) were investigated. It has been shown that the strength of the alloys after ECAP is higher than that achieved after conventional processing. Prior ECAP solution treatment and post-ECAP ageing can additionally increase the strength of the 6061 alloy. Under optimal ageing conditions a yield strength (YS) of 434 MPa and am ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 470 MPa were obtained for the alloy. Additional cold rolling leads to a YS and UTS of 475 and 500 MPa with 8% elongation. It was found that the post-ECAP isothermal rolling of the 1560 alloy resulted in the formation of a nano-fibred structure and a tensile strength (YS = 540 MPa and UTS = 635 MPa) that has never previously been observed in commercial non-heat treatable alloys.

6005A aluminum alloys were welded at different relative humidity conditions. The effects of relative humidity on the salt fog corrosion of the welding joints were researched. The results showed that the weight loss of the joints after 14 days corrosion was higher than that corroded after 7days, but the corrosion rate was lower. The corrosion rate first increased then declined with the increase of environmental humidity for the joints corroded for 7days. However, when the environmental humidity was 80%, corrosion rate achieved the maximum, when environment humidity was 70%, corrosion rate was the lowest. After corroded for 14 days, corrosion rate was the maximum when the environmental humidity was 50%, and it was the lowest when the environmental humidity was 90%. The tensile strength declined obviously after corrosion.

The goal of this research is to improve the mechanical properties such as strength, hardness and wear resistance for automotive application such as brake shoe and bearings due to high cycle, load and impact during their usage. Therefore, another alloying element or reinforcement addition is necessary. In this work, the composites are made by ADC 12 (Al-Si aluminum alloy) as the matrix and reinforced with micro SiC through stir casting process and TiB is added various from (0.04, 0.06, 0.15, 0.3 and 0.5) wt.% that act as grain refiners and 5 wt.% of Mg is added to improve the wettability of the composites. The addition of TiB improves the mechanical properties because the grain becomes finer and uniform, and the addition of Mg makes the matrix and reinforce have better adhesion. The results obtained that the optimum composition was found by adding 0.15 wt.% of TiB with tensile strength improve from 98 MPa to 136.3 MPa, hardness from 35 to 53 HRB and wear rate reduced from 0.006 2 mm3 s−1 to 0.002 3 mm3 s−1 respectively.

Scroll compressors are popularly applied in air-conditioning systems. The conventional fabrication process causes gas and shrinkage porosity in the scroll. In this paper, the electromagnetic stirring (EMS)-based semisolid multicavity squeeze casting (SMSC) process is proposed for effectively manufacturing wrought aluminum alloy scrolls. Insulation temperature, squeeze pressure, and the treatment of the micromorphology and mechanical properties of the scroll were investigated experimentally. It was found that reducing the insulation temperature can decrease the grain size, increase the shape factor, and improve mechanical properties. The minimum grain size was found as 111 ± 3 μm at the insulation temperature of 595 °C. The maximum tensile strength, yield strength, and hardness were observed as 386 ± 8 MPa, 228 ± 5 MPa, and 117 ± 5 HV, respectively, at the squeeze pressure of 100 MPa. The tensile strength and hardness of the scroll could be improved, and the elongation was reduced by the T6 heat treatment. The optimal process parameters are recommended at an insulation temperature in the range of 595–600 °C and a squeeze pressure of 100 MPa. Under the optimal process parameters, scroll casting was completely filled, and there was no obvious shrinkage defect observed inside. Its microstructure is composed of fine and spherical grains.
