Due to the focus on solving the issues concerning agriculture, rural areas and peasantry, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed a rural revitalization strategy. In this era, new-type professional farmers came into being. They helped the development of agriculture and accelerated the process of rural revitalization. However, there are still some obvious problems which urgently need to take corresponding improvement measures in the cultivation and development of new-type professional farmers. To solve these problems, it is required to set a premium on basic education in rural areas and promote advanced technology; cultivate correct professional values and improve the social status of farmers; adhere to the training model that combines theory with practice and enrich teaching methods; pay attention to the targeted training of talents at different levels and form reasonable teaching structures; coordinate agricultural development planning and develop regional characteristic agriculture.

Rural revitalization calls for a new type of urban–rural relations in urbanizing China. Although the importance of urban–rural dichotomy has received increasing attention by scholars interested in studying urban development and governance in contemporary China, their interpretations about the connection between urban and rural areas remain fragmented and ambiguous. This article seeks to trace the origin of the Chinese city and its relations with the countryside in the imperial era. It generates a more complete understanding of the rural–urban relationship in the traditional Chinese society and to appeal for a more rounded research agenda for the Chinese urbanization based on a sound historical perspective. The findings of this study explain why and how the traditional urban–rural continuum has disappeared in contemporary China, and identifies the key lessons and wisdoms that we can borrow from the imperial era when we come to tackle the present urban–rural development.

This anthology challenges the notion that Latinas/os are newcomers to the Midwest by emphasizing that Latinas/os have resided in the region for over a century, and have contributed to the social, cultural, and economic dimensions of rural and urban Midwestern communities. Its eighteen interdisciplinary chapters and introduction essays explore issues of history, education, literature, art, and politics defining today’s Latina/o Midwest. Some contributors delve into the Latina/o revitalization of rural areas, where communities have launched bold experiments in dual-language immersion education while seeing integrated neighborhoods, churches, and sports teams become the norm. Others reveal metro areas as laboratories for emerging Latino subjectivities, places where for some, the term Latina/o itself corresponds to a new type of lived identity as different Latina/o groups interact in shared neighborhoods, schools, and workplace.

AbstractThe significance of mediatization in countryside settings is an under-researched topic in media studies. In this paper, based on qualitative fieldwork carried out in two rural areas in Sweden, we study how mediatization integrates the prospects of cosmopolitan social change. The current phase of the mediatization process, which imposes a more dynamic register of networked communication, nourishes a new type of cosmopolitan identity in the countryside. As shown in the study, this development is constituted by complex configurations of different forms of mobility and connectivity. We argue that these spatial processes are socially structured, meaning that certain social groups are better equipped, through the appropriation of network capital, for turning cosmopolitan dispositions into a transformative resource, a ‘cosmopolitan politics of place’. Such alterations of the social structure may successively destabilize the relationship between ‘the urban’ and ‘the rural’.

Culture is the core element of local civilization, and its “embedded” characteristics and value are an important resources for the construction of local civilization. In the new era, the social environment in rural areas has undergone structural changes, and it is difficult to solve the public, organization and participation of the construction of rural customs and civilization to resolve themselves, and the root cause lies in the lack or absence of culture. Under the background of rural revitalization, through the integration of multiple cultural embedding into the rural social structure system, it plays an irreplaceable role in standardizing the rural order and building a rural community, and can inject new elements and new momentum into the construction of rural civilization. Based on this, taking “embeddings” as the theoretical framework and analysis tool, analyzed the internal logic of cultural embedding, and combined with the practice of rural civilization construction, discussed the feasibility of cultural embedding as rural civilization construction in Zhejiang Huzhou.
