OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE 21ST CENTURYAbstractReturn to the epistemology is a necessary practice for the performance of Higher Education, still more so in the case of the university in the mutant society with question that play by land the beliefs considered in the design of the educative systems. Management in the context of higher education has been characterized by the predominance of male participation, mainly in senior management positions. As a result, women’s low participation is mainly concentrated in lower management positions, and their chances of escalating hierarchical positions are mediated by various factors ranging from subjective to socially naturalized. The objective of this research is to analyze the barriers women face to enter and escalate positions in university management in Colombia. Under a qualitative design, 26 semi-structured interviews were applied to university managers from different institutions of higher education in Colombia. The transcripts were analyzed using discourse analysis through three categories: individual, internal, and external barriers of the university. It was found that women face entry and promotion barriers marked by experiences, and conditions of inequality and discrimination in a male-dominated context. These barriers are conditioned by personal elements, organizational culture, and the social role of women. In addition, women’s trajectories involve mediation between professional development and family life. The study reveals experiences that contribute to understanding the research phenomenon from the webbing of senses and meanings. It is posited that the “glass ceiling” is mediated by variables in the internal order, and by the relationship between universities and their context.

The results of the research are presented: "The role of experimental activity in teaching electromagnetics in higher education." Their goal was to design a proposal for teaching electromagnetism, based on the experimental activity that contributes to the teaching and learning process at the university level. To do this, we worked with a group of engineering students from two institutions of higher education: University Pascual Bravo Institute and the University of Antioquia. Students who were part of the proposal, a questionnaire of four questions on electromagnetism. The questions were selected based on previous research on the same topic were conducted in students who had just completed the theoretical course. The results of the latter group showed difficulty explaining phenomena related to electromagnetism, while the group of students who performed the experimental work, showed a better understanding of the phenomenon, managing to structure and organize their explanations.

ABSTRACTThis article is a reflection on the role of universities in society and their changing configuration into a business. The American university model, revailing in the sixties and seventies, based on the technical and scientific knowledge, is being replaced by a neoliberal concept that has made higher education a business unit from the logic of the market. In this debate, the university has been considered from two perspectives: on its role as a business or as an institution that promotes knowledge. The latter role has posed questions on higher educational issues and local and national approaches. AND NEW DINAMICS OF THE YOUTH CONDITION IN THE ÑÖÑHO OF SAN ILDEFONSO TULTEPEC: links of indigenous youth to intercultural higher education in Mexico  ABSTRACTInserting a sociocultural perspective on contemporary indigenous youth in the field of youth relations, school and socialization, allows to establish new veins of analysis to understand the link that is woven between the still active expansion of systems in higher education in historically relegated regions of this school infrastructure in Mexico, and the social and cultural production of new and differentiated ways of being indigenous young. Based on the recognition that to this day the so-called new ruralities are experiencing a process of gradual disengagement from the social structures of the agrarian and traditional world, and are emerging as a generation culturally closer to the social practices of urban youth, this work analyzes the interactions maintained by the otomí o ñöñho youth of San Ildefonso Tultepec in Querétaro, compared to one of the institutions with the greatest historical durability in the construction of youth identities: the school.Specifically it is explored from ethnographic data, how the entry of intercultural higher education to this indigenous area in Querétaro, contributes to extend and energize the youth attributes of this sector of the ñöñho population based on their student status, by granting them new quotas of organization of individual time -that defer their work and family commitments- , opportunities to build new youthful affective bonds within and outside the community space, to expand their social tastes and cultural capitals, and to establish themselves as an emerging professional with differential perspectives on their community environment.KeyWords: Youth condition. DEVELOPMENT OF COMPETENCIES FOR RESEARCH IN HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS: AN EXPERIENCE IN MEXICO ABSTRACT The formation of human resources in research is an arduous task for Public Universities, especially in developing countries, must become a fundamental axis in reaching higher levels of social welfare in the matter of economic growth, production of science and technology and improvement of quality of education. At the moment a great disparity exists where developed countries, are “the unique” producers of knowledge and the developing countries are only consumers. In this work, we present the results of the effort of the last 12 years in the University of Guadalajara at Lagos de Moreno, which its fundamental axis is the scientific research. Like inherent part of the formation of university students, they will increase, enrich and to became in to the generational relief of the researchers in Jalisco state and perhaps of the Mexican Republic. ABSTRACTThe following analysis aims to investigate the present and the future of the Ecuadorian university, its relationship to work, citizenship and identity, higher education and learning, knowledge ecologies to link research and teaching in higher education and the pre service education: policies, programs and practices. The information society and knowledge required of citizens better prepared and more committed to the environment in which they live and develop. Aware of this reality, the university must rethink the principles that led to its creation. Moving from theorizing (conceptualization - observation) to the practical (research - reflection – criticality - involvement) valuing and respecting diversity and multiculturalism in tandem to raise awareness on the social responsibility of their knowledge. This rethinking of contemporary university must analyse as proposed by some researchers (Montero, Patricio. 2010) the megas educational trends and challenges for higher education that have implications on key educational decisions related to the relevance and validity of higher education. In particular, for curriculum development, methodologies for both teaching and assessing also the management of teaching. 1.- Globalization marked by the knowledge society. 2.- Training for a highly dynamic interdependent labour structure. 3.- The survival of organizations depends on the knowledge possessed by its staff. 4.- Changes in the design of intelligent behaviour and productivity of people. Contacto principal: [email protected]

The world is facing multiple changes and challenges; the environment shows inequalities, poverty, and corruption. Ecuador is not the exception. The man is declared the primary focus of the Ecuadorian Constitution to meet such changes. The objective of decreasing poverty, improving wealth distribution, and contributing to sustainable human development is unavoidable. In that context, the university has the pivotal role in generating interaction with society and its reality, to train professionals social and humanly responsible towards such facts, to promote the social management of knowledge from different action fields. The goal of this chapter is to specify the role of higher education institutions (HEIs) in a society where they take part, to draw up social responsibility of universities in Guayaquil and the challenges they face, as well as actions that contribute to the eradication of corruption and greater wellbeing of the society.
