The rapid development of the new technology has changed classroom teaching methods and tools in a positive way. This study investigated the classroom learning with augmented reality and the impact of student opinions. 97 volunteer undergraduate students took part in this study. Results included data in the form of frequencies, percentages and descriptive statistics. The results show that, with gamification methods, augmented reality content affected students’ opinions in a positive way. When QR codes are used in the classroom, students feel independent from classroom materials and can access various resources. Moreover, students think that, when augmented reality in the classroom is used, education is more enjoyable. Keywords: Augmented reality; gamification; opinions; students

Abstract Background Due to differing assessment systems across UK medical schools, making meaningful cross-school comparisons on undergraduate students’ performance in knowledge tests is difficult. Ahead of the introduction of a national licensing assessment in the UK, we evaluate schools’ performances on a shared pool of “common content” knowledge test items to compare candidates at different schools and evaluate whether they would pass under different standard setting regimes. Such information can then help develop a cross-school consensus on standard setting shared content. Methods We undertook a cross-sectional study in the academic sessions 2016-17 and 2017-18. Sixty “best of five” multiple choice ‘common content’ items were delivered each year, with five used in both years. In 2016-17 30 (of 31 eligible) medical schools undertook a mean of 52.6 items with 7,177 participants. In 2017-18 the same 30 medical schools undertook a mean of 52.8 items with 7,165 participants, creating a full sample of 14,342 medical students sitting common content prior to graduation. Using mean scores, we compared performance across items and carried out a “like-for-like” comparison of schools who used the same set of items then modelled the impact of different passing standards on these schools. Results Schools varied substantially on candidate total score. Schools differed in their performance with large (Cohen’s d around 1) effects. A passing standard that would see 5 % of candidates at high scoring schools fail left low-scoring schools with fail rates of up to 40 %, whereas a passing standard that would see 5 % of candidates at low scoring schools fail would see virtually no candidates from high scoring schools fail. Conclusions Candidates at different schools exhibited significant differences in scores in two separate sittings. Performance varied by enough that standards that produce realistic fail rates in one medical school may produce substantially different pass rates in other medical schools – despite identical content and the candidates being governed by the same regulator. Regardless of which hypothetical standards are “correct” as judged by experts, large institutional differences in pass rates must be explored and understood by medical educators before shared standards are applied. The study results can assist cross-school groups in developing a consensus on standard setting future licensing assessment.

Civil Engineering Material is one of the main special courses offered to undergraduate students whose major is Civil Engineering. It aims to let students know major civil engineering materials, their physical properties, mechanical properties, how they are used in construction, how they are tested in the lab, and their strength characteristics-information, so that they can solve problems arising from civil construction. Rapid development in civil engineering material requires construction of this course, which could keep the teaching content up-to-date with current situations. This paper analyzed the current conditions of this course and aims for construction and then describes a construction plan, including revision of the teaching content, improvement of teaching methods and class mode, compiling of test database and exercise database.

The article under analysis studies the modern youth subculture in the time of rapid development of Internet technologies and granted opportunities for communication and pastime among young people. The objective of the article is to study characteristics of the modern youth subculture undergone the transformation influenced by internetization processes. To achieve the purpose, the following points were determined: 1) characterize the modern youth subculture existing on the basis of the Internet application “Instagram”; 2) analyze the results of the survey aimed at bringing to light a great popularity of the Instagram community among students and aimed at specifying the impact of the given application on participants; 3) find out the peculiarities of the modern subculture at the modern-day stage of the society development. The main methods of the study are the interpretation analysis of Russian and foreign scientific works and internet materials on the problems of modern youth subculture and its influence on the youth; the questionnaire method and the method of quantitative analysis. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the characteristics of the modern youth subculture in the time of the society internetization are specified and its possible impact on a personality development and youth behaviour is demonstrated. The practical implication of the study results is in their possibilities to be used as topical information about the modern youth subculture in the time of the digital society by psychologists, any teaching staff and social care teachers in their scientific research and teaching-educational work with representatives of the young.

Objective : to determine the character and forms of the new generation educational materials in the conditions of a new reality - the dominance of clip consciousness, because it is focused on the perception of changing visual images and it limits the formation of systemic knowledge about the subject of study. 2) to make an overview of augmented reality (AR) programs and applications that can be used in the preparation of educational materials. Applied method : analysis of documents, including publications of domestic and foreign authors, describing the experience of introducing virtual (VR), augmented (AR) and mixed (MR) realities technologies into the educational process and educational materials; online sources for the latest augmented reality learning software. Results : textbooks with AR enable to observe objects in 3D in real time and in a real physical environment using smartphones, special glasses; it will allow them to gain practical knowledge and experience. Educational materials with AR and VR will become more in demand in technical / engineering and architectural and construction education, they will allow to visualize projects, to view the architectural models in detail. Conclusions : the use of augmented reality elements has a positive effect on the quality of education, but its effectiveness for students of different specialties is different. The greatest effectiveness of AR in the process of teaching undergraduate students of engineering and architectural specialties was revealed. In general, the impact of virtual and augmented reality on consumers is ambiguous. The problem requires further study, in particular, in the aspect of technostress.

Rapid development of the technology has influenced its inevitable entrance in the learning processes. Teachers are often challenged to use the appropriate educational technology in the process of teaching in order to ease the learning process of students. Introducing new technology in the teaching process should utilize the new technology in any possible way in order to assist the teacher in transferring the knowledge and assist the students in grasping that knowledge. This paper should emphasize the benefits of using augmented reality in higher education, by measuring outcomes of the students which used augmented reality as a teaching tool in the courses. Results from the survey imply that students show significantly improved results in increasing the interest, understanding and interiorizing the learning material. University teachers found that using augmented reality is significantly improving the learning process of students and their teaching process in a pedagogical and technical sense.

The high prevalence of dental anomalies and deformities requires a careful approach to orthodontic treatment, especially to improve quality of life. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of orthodontic care by index assessment of the results of correction of dental anomalies and determination of the psychosocial profile in adolescents of the Transcarpathian region. Material and methods. The object of the study were 68 adolescents from the Transcarpathian region. Determination of the correction of dental and maxillary apparatus anomalies was performed by calculating the relevant part of the ICON index, calculating the evaluation of the results. The quality of life of adolescents was assessed using the OHIP-14 quality of life questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed after consolidation of results using the application package Statistica 10.0 (StatSoft, Inc., USA) and Microsoft Office Excel 2010. Results and discussion. Many studies in the field of psychology have determined that self-esteem is a core characteristic of the individual and together with the level of claims is a regulator of human activity and significantly affects its development. The result of self-esteem depends on how a person evaluates his/her success in joint activities where he/she is a member. This is especially true for teenagers and adolescence. The most important aspect of impaired quality of life in patients of this subgroup were problems of psychological and social nature, issues of external attractiveness, which prevailed even over the physical aspects of the impact, which is quite typical of adolescence. In patients with moderate orthodontic treatment there was a statistically significant improvement on the scales of psychological discomfort (from 6.4±0.6 points to 3.96±0.6 points; p <0.05), psychological disability (from 6.5±0.5 points to 2.18±0.5 points; p <0.05) and social disability (from 5.4±0.5 points to 3.36±0.5 points; p <0.05). Patients in this group after solving problems related to the aesthetics of the smile, as well as discomfort during communication, felt greater psychological comfort, relief in interaction with others and peers. There was a noteworthy shift of accentuation in such patients from problems with appearance to study and active social life. Among patients with severe orthodontic treatment, the most pronounced dynamics was observed on all scales of dental quality of life: on the scale of masticatory dysfunction (from 5.7±1.0 points to 3.12±1.0 points; p <0.05), physical pain (from 7.5±0.7 points to 2.01±0.7 * points; p <0.05), psychological discomfort (from 7.9±0.6 points to 3.48±0.6 points; p <0.05) physical disability (from 7.7±0.5 points to 3.20±0.5 points; p <0.05), psychological disability (from 7.5±0.4 points to 3.41±0.5 points; p <0.05). Conclusion. According to the study results, the success of orthodontic treatment (indicators of severity and effectiveness of orthodontic treatment according to the ISO index) directly correlated with the level of quality of life (r = 0.62; p <0.05)

One of the goals of any oil terminal is to make a business while avoiding hazardous events and harmful effects for both humans and the environment. This can be achieved by creating a safe working place as well as by performing safe and acceptable activities regarding the impact on surrounding objects, including residential and industrial areas. The aim of the hazard analysis of the oil terminal is to assess the risks related to hazardous events or phenomena and to evaluate whether the assessed risks are acceptable. The hazard analysis and assessment of risk are also used for risk reduction while examining and limiting hazardous scenarios that, for instance, involve the loss-of-containment of flammable or combustible material. In this paper, the authors aim to contribute to risk research by providing a comprehensive methodology of risk assessment for oil terminals with case study results and discussion on features of the methodology, risk aggregation, its applicability for risk reduction, and industrial interests. The performed study considered the “Klaipedos Nafta AB” (an operator of the Klaipeda Oil Terminal, Lithuania) case study regarding hazardous materials that might be released from various tanks, devices, and associated pipelines. The performed quantitative risk assessment has enabled the determination of the probability regarding whether releases would ignite and, for instance, cause explosion. In the case study, the estimate of probability, i.e., the frequency, and the possible consequences of the hazardous events were evaluated, and both mitigation and risk reduction measures were also considered.

. With the rapid development of information technology and the popularization of the Internet, the modern educational technology represented by multimedia teaching has become the development and reformation direction of modern teaching methods thus making the development and application of multimedia courseware in classroom teaching the inevitable choice for modern education. People generally consider multimedia courseware as the teaching courseware of organic combination of multiple media such as picture, style, sound, animation and video frequency, etc. However, they have neglected the most active factor throughout the multimedia, namely, interactivity. As classroom teaching-based multimedia courseware is characterized by interactive design, realizing the interaction function of student and computer, teacher and student is in request of discussing the interactive design thinking and production method of multimedia courseware and illustrating interactive design technology of courseware with certain system and structure. The interactivity of multimedia courseware in teaching should be comprehensively analyzed from the description of learning resources and teaching system so as to attain better teaching effect and serve for optimizing classroom multimedia teaching methods.

The present study investigated the impact teaching academic vocabulary through an augmented reality (AR) approach had on acquisition and retention as compared to using a more traditional flash card based approach. 29 high school students ranging from 9th to 11th grade followed the pattern of a 10 word vocabulary pre-test, being taught those words through respective alternating AR and traditional vocabulary methods, and post-tested one week from the date of teaching. At the end of the testing and teaching process, the unit scores were compared to find if any differences occurred. Analysis revealed that there is a significant difference between the two teaching methods. Participants scored better in the AR unit as compared to the traditional unit. Furthermore, participants also reported greater satisfaction with the AR method because it held their attention, gave them something to focus on, and was overall more engaging. Comparatively, participants found the traditional method not engaging, however, they were comfortable with the traditional method because it is what they are comfortable with in the classroom. Given the curiosity of using AR in the classroom, more research could be conducted to find patterns in participant performance across all academic content areas as well as other uses for AR in the classroom.&nbsp;

In the present context of globalization, the demand for assembly skill has increased and play an essential role in today’s industry. The traditional assembly instruction, face-to-face and manual instruction, may contain unimportant information that can result in misinterpretation, which in turn may increase the number of error and takes longer time to complete the task. A new technology (AR) claims to increase the efficiency of assembly task by directly visualizing computer generated 3D information in the real environment. Therefore, this study aims to determine the impact of AR on the time of task completion and the number of error made during the assembly task. The comparative user study was quantitative involving 18 users divided into either AR group or traditional group performing a pc assembly task. Statistical analysis revealed that the time of completion and error rate for two different group is statistically significant. The findings showed that the use of AR application has resulted in decreasing the number of error made and shorten the time to complete the task than the traditional instructional manual in assemble a pc. Considering these result, it can conclude that augmented reality application is an effective and beneficial tool to be applied in assembly and education.
